Post Tags and Categories

One of the things people love most about WordPress.com is how easy it is to categorize and tag your posts. (IF you don’t know the diference between a category and a tag, don’t worry about it, they’re pretty much the same.)

On our post screen, we have a little sidebar where you have checkboxes to categorize a post, or you can create new categories/tags on the fly by typing them in the box above. (Like Flickr.)

When editing a post, removing a category is as easy as unchecking the box.

If you like, later you can arrange your categories into a hierarchy, with top-level categories and sub-categories.

This shows adding a category with a “parent.” (A sub-category.)

Adding a sub-category

You can display your categories on your sidebar to make it easy for your visitors to find posts on certain topics.

Finally, if your blog is public we put your categories into our global tag system, which connects you to other bloggers talking about the same things you are and helps drive traffic to your blog.
