WHICH 0-2 TEAM IS FOR REAL?

Going in to week #3 of the NFL Season, there are 9 teams that are on pace to once again embarrass themselves, their hometowns and their fans. The pressing question as we prepare for kickoff: Which teams have the die-hard basement staying power and which surprising, slow-starting contenders are headed for the disappointment of an above .500 season?

Most have toasted their league records with a swig from the keg of mediocrity. Some have held their solemn frosty mugs of failure high in a toast heralding not so much as one victory. In any case, lets investigate which team has the inability to succumb to disappointment, win and move up the Wild Card food chain and which team has the wherewithal to embarrass and frustrate their fans for the remainder of the season?

- Tennessee Titans: Who are we kidding? Even IF Kerry Collins were leaving happy hour at TGIFriday’s to drunkenly drive one of Vince Young’s many personalities over to the stadium to assume control the Titan’s offense for the rest of this season – this team has too much talent – despite whatever QB train wreck comes their way. By default, this team has to win. It’s just not in their DNA to go 0-16. Worst Case: 2 wins just by the fact that they play the Jags twice.

- Miami Dolphins: It’s hard to follow up a perfect 1972 season with anything less than perfection. Yet, since Ace Ventura, Dolphin’s fans have managed to see the team through disappointment-colored glasses. The same could be said for anyone following Jim Carrey’s career. Unfortunately for the Dolphins they clinched the division last year and have two guys who will not let a long-term losing streak prevent them from claiming their .500 season: Ronnie Brown and Bill Parcells. Hurray for average!

- Jacksonville Jaguars: Ewww…and fresh off their attempts to freeze the Fred Durst wart off the Ol’ Jacksonville genitals. Who am I kidding? Florida is the wart on the taint of America…point here is that while M.J.D. HAD it, the remainder of that team is devoid of any true, useful talent. That’s a good start. So there IS hope for a long-term stay in the “OH-FER” history, but because of M.J.D., their hopes at a “OH-FER” season will be shut down faster than an erection within 13 feet of Kathy Griffin.

- Kansas City Chiefs: WOW…the one team that year in/year out, make Lions fans happy they are in the league. Yet, last year, managed to score 2 wins and celebrate like Milli Vanilli winning a Grammy: excited, but praying hard that nobody noticed their mammoth lack of talent. A future “OH-FER” Hall Of Fame organization! However, despite the acquisition of a solid back-up QB, look for a repeat nod of their Grammy Award Winning performance.

- Carolina Panthers: I don’t know about you, but I feel like I have been watching this team’s demise in slow motion since it was first stillborn into existence. It’s hard to comprehend how the Cardiac Cats manage to make it through a season without an implosion that would make Tori Spelling’s chest look like the sweet baby Jesus did the implants himself. They have brought us a few names that have scored HUGE points in Fantasyland, but little real talent to help them win games. They have the desire and drive to lose for 45 minutes that somehow forget about it in the 4th. No amount of cheerleaders having sex in a bathroom with each other will keep this team under 3 wins, no matter how hard they try.

- Tampa Bay Bucs: WTF? How did Tampa go from one of the most dominant defenses with Warren Sapp to an offense that looks like it was pieced together by Michael Jackson’s plastic surgeon? Thin, weak and somewhat black. It always seemed to be that Tampa was able to throw together some yards, a few touchdowns and a couple of wins along the way. Tampa’s return to “OH-FER” Greatness – and the standard by which all others are judged – are truly screwed if Ward can get it together. The bad news there is that they’ll be able crap out a win. In spite of the Byron “Wave The White Flag” Leftwich pick-up.

- Detroit Lions: Tight race here for the worst of the worst. Tough to argue with the “hey, we’ve been there” mentality of the record breaking 0-16 Lions. Tough to find flaws in the “how many years have we done this?” logic of putting all of your eggs into a rookie QB’s basket. The Lion’s undoing will come in the form of hope, luck and the Rams. There will be a sad, sad “OH-FER” battle brewing in Week 8 (see: “St. Louis Rams”)

- St. Louis Rams: One year from now, every last one of you will be saying “..Stephen who?” Add those to the list of every NFL team that his people will be contacting to take on his hefty, worthless contract and all of a sudden, Shawn Alexander is starting to look good. This team is for real. They will make a run at – the very least – an 0-7 start. Look for the battle of “Well…Someone HAS to Win” to take place November 1 in Michigan.

- Cleveland Browns: In my humble opinion, this is the only real team with the chemistry, leadership and talent to solidify the longest “OH-FER” streak the 2009 NFL season will see. They turned the heads of perennial cellar-dwellers by losing by 3 TD’s to Denver last week. Their chemistry is so bad, that they make the creators of the Antonio Banderas cologne look like Nobel Prize Winners. :Week 11 they have Detroit. The final week of the season they have Jacksonville. With an 0-10 start, the Cleveland Dawg Pound will be thankful that a man like Mangini will skillfully and handedly lead their team over that annoying “possible victory hurdle” in Week 11 to keep the dream alive.

A lot can – CAN happen in the next 24hours. And as we have seen (Cincinnati V. Green Bay) parity is all aflutter in the NFL. One thing we know for sure, one thing that remains true and reminds us that the more things change, the more they stay the same: Lions fan’s will always have hope. Despite their last win on December 23, 2007.

Sin embargo el Real Madrid no es capaz de gobernar los partidos como debiera. Hoy, con tres centrocampistas, se han visto muchas más triangulaciones, y los jugadores se asociaban de forma mucho más simple. Kaká, Granero y Guti tocaban entre sí para posteriormente buscar la espalda de los defensores, donde Higuaín y sobre todo el incontenible Ronaldo se lanzaban al balón como flechas. Es un fútbol que nada tiene que ver con el que practica el Barça, de mucho mayor control. Por poner un ejemplo, y pese a que el Villarreal se ha quedado con diez jugadores por expulsión de Gonzalo, el equipo de Pellegrini ha llegado al descanso con un 48% de posesión de balón, muy lejos del 70% que ayer lograra amasar el Barça. El Villarreal se va arriba

La segunda parte se iniciaba de un modo bien diferente. El submarino amarillo no fue capaz de crear peligro en toda la primera mitad. Buen partido del Madrid. Sin excelencias y mostrando todas sus virtudes y defectos, los blancos han ganado con autoridad y solvencia en el Madrigal. Con Gago de mediocentro, con Lass de lateral y con Benzema en el banquillo, el Madrid ha sido capaz de sobreponerse y ganar con eficacia para mantener el ritmo del Barcelona. 12/12 puntos posibles y a pensar en el siguiente partido.

‘Twas an unusually balmy September evening, J was working late and there was Top Chef at 10. We planned to meet at City Burgers for an inexpensive burger outing.

Neither of us had been there before and were both unfamiliar with this part of Midtown. As we walked south on Broadway pass 40th Street, we started to look for a City Burgers sign. We walked to the end of the block. I checked the King of Phones for the exact address to see if we’d gotten the wrong block. Nope, we were on Broadway, between 39th and 40th streets. There’s no burger place in sight.

J & I foolishly walk up and down the block a few times, looking like idiots. We then search by building number: 1410. It’s some fast food joint, but it’s not called City Burger! Next to it is the front door to an office building. Against J’s better judgement, I go in and ask the lobby security guard.

I guess good things DON’T come to those who wait… or does that not really apply here? Either way, it was fairly disappointing. J has to go back to work so we had to find some place to eat!

We ended up going to Kati Roll, which, was delicious, as always. I know we’re not talking about non-burgers on this blog. But allow me some leeway to deal with the displeasure of a non-existent burger joint.

City Burger, you get a big whopping 0!!!

Gli azzurri di Marcello Lippi scendono in campo allo stadio Boris Paichadze di Tbilisi per affrontare i padroni di casa della Georgia. Ad attenderli, oltre agli uomini di Cuper, 60.000 spettatori vogliosi di festeggiare una clamorosa vittoria contro i campioni del mondo.

In campo - Lippi decide di affidarsi al cosiddetto blocco Juve, 5 i bianconeri in campo, e al classico 4-4-2 con Marchionni e Camoranesi laterali di centrocampo. In avanti Beppe Rossi affianca Iaquinta. Cuper risponde con un metodo speculare. Kaladze, schierato al centro della difesa, è il capitano.

Si gioca – La Georgia parte molto aggressiva, pressing asfissiante e ritmi veloci. Gli azzurri invece non sembrano a proprio agio col terreno di gioco e scivolano spesso, come Iaquinta che al settimo va giù sciupando una potenziale occasione da goal. Cuper mette i due esterni di centrocampo molto alti in modo da bloccare le avanzate dei terzini azzurri. Le occasioni da rete per l’Italia arrivano dunque dall’azione dei due esterni di centrocampo che però tendono ad accentrarsi troppo intasando ancor più gli spazi. Al 13′ centro di Marchionni e testa di Camoranesi a lato. Col passare del tempo l’azione della Georgia si affievolisce ma l’unico schema proposto dagli uomini di Lippi é palla a Iaquinta per un tentativo di sponda. Il problema è che i due centrali georgiani arrivano quasi sempre prima e giocando in questo modo Rossi è sempre fuori dal gioco. Un brutto primo tempo se ne va così dopo due minuti di recupero annoverando solamente un colpo di testa di Chiellini su angolo di Pirlo ed un presunto rigore richiesto da Criscito.

La ripresa inizia con formazioni invariate. L’Italia però alza i ritmi costringendo la Georgia a difendersi a ridosso della propria area di rigore. I risultati sono comunque modesti e per passare ci vuole una grossa mano dalla Fortuna. Della fortuna e dell’Italiano che non ti aspetti: Kakhaber Kaladze. Il centrale del Milan devia, di testa, in maniera sconsiderata verso la propria porta un tiro innoquo di Palombo e l’Italia passa in vantaggio. Lippi decide allora di cambiare marcia. Fuori i deludenti Marchionni e Rossi, dentro D’Agostino e Quagliarella. Il centrocampo si schiera adesso a rombo con D’Agostino vertice basso e Pirlo vertice alto. E sono proprio i due nuovi entrati a confezionare una bella palla-goal. D’Agostino mette Quagliarella in porta ma il diagonale del bomber napoletano va fuori di un niente. E dato che l’Italia non riesce a buttarla dentro ci ripensa il nostro “bomber” di serata. Cross dalla sinistra di Criscito ed altra sconclusionata deviazione, questa volta di piede, di Kaladze che infila la propria porta per la seconda volta. La partita finisce praticamente qui. Santon rileva Camoranesi prendendo il posto dello juventino a centrocampo. Ma ormai la partita non ha più storia. C’è solo il tempo di qualche tentativo dei due attaccanti azzurri, con un clamoroso doppio palo all’ultimo secondo e un miracolo di Buffon su un tentativo di autogoal di Criscito. L’Italia dunque non incanta ma esce vittoriosa da Tbilisi e considerato che la qualificazione è ormai ad un passo per il momento va bene così.

La chiave – Il primo autogoal di Kaladze sblocca gli azzurri che dopo giocano con molta più autorità. Fino a quel momento non si era visto un granché.

La chicca – Beh, come possiamo non scegliere le due (auto)reti del “bomber” Kaladze? La prima con una torsione di testa e la seconda con un tiro al volo su cross basso. Sembrava il Toni dei tempi migliori!

Top&Flop – Le note positive italiane vengono da Pirlo e Buffon (le due parate dimostrano che è tornato lui). Bene anche gli innesti di D’Agostino e Quagliarella. Nella Georgia a parte il disastroso Kaladze, da segnalare Kenia. Il ragazzo ha qualità.

På en ganske skuffende søndag eftermiddag på Craven Cottage, blev et træt Fulham-mandskab udspillet af en flok veloplagte Chelsea-spillere, som rejste hjem med en 2-0 sejr i bagagen uden at have givet sig 100 %.

Gennem hele kampen havde vi absolut intet at skulle have sagt, og Chelsea kunne med lidt skarphed have ført med flere mål allerede efter en halv time.

I det 38. minut fik Chelsea dog brudt Fulhams bagkæde, da Didier Drogba, i en mistænkelig offside position, blev spillet fri af Frank Lampard, og alene med Mark Schwarzer svigtede ivorianeren ikke.

Resten af halvlegen fortsatte Chelski deres dominans, og Fulham kunne takke deres held for, at de kun var bagud med en kasse ved pausen.

Anden halvlegs start kunne være blevet lidt af et antiklimaks for Chelsea, da Danny Murphy sendte et indlæg over, som Ricardo Carvalho var ved at score selvmål på, men (u)heldigvis for portugiseren røg bolden over Petr Cechs mål.

Halv-store tilbud til Drogba og franske Florent Malouda fulgte, før Nicolas Anelka med et kvarter igen udbyggede føringen med angrebskollega Drogba som oplægger.

Resten af kampen bød på samme tendenser, og Fulham lignede et tredje-divisions hold, der var gået forkert…

The Cottagers forsøgte hele tiden de svære afleveringer gennem midten i stedet for at brede spillet ud til de to kantspillere (eller i hvert fald Duff).

For at evaluere på kampen, mener jeg, at Roy Hodgson begik et par gigantiske taktiske brølere.

Først og fremmest forstår jeg ikke, hvorfor vores mest kreative mand, Clint Dempsey, bliver lagt op i front, hvor han absolut ikke bidrog med noget som helst (Rørte han overhovedet bolden?)!

Det havde klart været at foretrække, hvis Erik “Kølig som en laks” Nevland eller Diomansy “Hurtigere end Usain Bolt” Kamara havde udgjort angrebsduoen med Bobby NoGoals, mens Dempsey så blev rykket ned på Zoltan “Useless as a Donkey” Geras plads. Ungareren har overhovedet ikke niveau til Premier League, hvilket han har vist, lige siden han ankom fra WBA.

En anden besynderlig beslutning var at erstatte midtbanespiller Murphy med den udprægede centrale forsvarer, Chris “Toppen af middelmådighed” Baird, i stedet for at sætte vores norske fighter og midtbanespiller, Bjørn Helge Riise, på banen!

Bairds bidrag til kampen var gaven “Ingenting”, mens Riise eventuelt kunne have sat Chelseas midtbane under en smule pres, som startelleveren ikke var i stand til….

Uha, det var simpelthen det ringeste, jeg har set Fulham spille i rigtig lang tid! Håber Andy Johnson vender tilbage hurtigst muligt!! Amkar Perm i midtugen!

Acestea sunt rezultatele din turul play-off-ului Europa League. Ceva de adăugat ar mai fi că meciul dintre Dinamo Bucureşti şi Slovan Liberec s-a terminat în minutul 88, datorită unor suporteri care au reuşit să intre pe teren. Probabil echipa Dinamo Bucureşti va fi sancţionată pentru acest incident.

Visul bănăţenilor s-a spulberat în prima repriză a confruntării cu Stuttgart: un penalty obţinut de Marica (extrem de activ marţi seară) şi un gol senzaţional reuşit de Hleb au condus echipa germană spre o victorie cu 2-0 care îi dă cam toate şansele la calificarea în Champions League.

Bănăţenii nu au mai reuşit să repete prestaţia euforică din dubla cu Şahtior Doneţk: intenţia de pressing a oprit construcţia germană doar în minutele de start, perioadă după care travaliul lui Khedira (bara transversală în minutul 15) sau creativitatea lui Hleb au făcut diferenţa.

Il primo tempo mostra la voglia degli Stati Uniti di giocarsi la partita e di non stare a guardare la Spagna. Gli americani sfoggiano, fin dai primi minuti, un buon gioco di squadra e sfruttando i diversi errori spagnoli trovano il vantaggio con Altidore. Nella ripresa si allungano le squadre e la Spagna domina gli Stati Uniti costruendo innumerevoli occasioni neutralizzate da Howard, tuttavia sarà la squadra di Bradley a trovare il raddoppio e la qualificazione alla finale. La forza vince sulla tecnica: Spagna-USA 0-2.

In campo – Del Bosque non cambia modulo e si affida al consueto 4-4-2 per la semifinale di questa Confederations Cup contro gli Stati Uniti. La finale, sulla carta, appare molto vicina, ma il commissario tecnico degli spagnoli non si fida. Ci sarà dal primo minuto Fabregas diversamente da quanto ci si aspettava alla vigilia. Con lo stesso modulo scenderanno in campo gli Stati Uniti con la speranza di creare problemi ai Campioni d’Europa in carica. A centrocampo non ci sarà Kljestan, confermato dunque Clark. La novità grossa fra gli Usa è la posizione del capitano, Bocanegra, che gioca sulla sinistra.

Si gioca – La partita inizia subito in grande stile da semifinale; pericolissime le ripartenze nei primi minuti degli Stati Uniti con Davies che gioca sul filo del fuori gioco e si rende diverse volte pericoloso. Gli americani vogliono subito mettere paura agli uomini guidati da Del Bosque. Vivacissimi, dunque, gli Usa, mentre l’approccio alla partita della Spagna non è dei migliori e all’ottavo minuto Dempsey sfiora, per l’ennesima volta, la rete del vantaggio. La risposta spagnola è di Xabi Alonso che da fuori area tenta di sorprendere Howard. Le squadre sono molto corte; si gioca su spazi minimi e la Spagna cerca di affermarsi placando la manovra iniziale Statunitense. Ci sono pochissimi spazi in campo per gli spagnoli, si chiudono bene gli Usa, ma al diciassettesimo si apre uno spazio centrale molto pericoloso e Fabregas ne approfitta, ma Torres è in fuorigioco. Al ventesimo errore di Villa che tocca un pallone proveniente da Xabi Alonso innescando il contropiede avversario; pericolo per gli spagnoli. In questi venti minuti si nota la grande qualità degli spagnoli, ma anche la tantissima quantità messa in campo dal team di Bradley; situazione equilibrata, dunque, al Free State Stadium di Bloemfontein. Al ventiseiesimo, meritatamente, gli Stati Uniti passano in vantaggio con un gran gol di Altidore che si libera di forza di Xavi e spiazza Casillas; si sono invertiti i ruoli: troppi errori per gli spagnoli e tante idee e iniaziative per gli Usa che siglano il primo gol della Confederations alla Spagna. Il primo tempo si chiude con una grande occasione degli uomini di Del Bosque per tentare il pareggio, ma il vantaggio americano appare del tutto meritato grazie alla perfezione tattica ostentata e alla superiorità nelle occasioni.

Inizia bene la Spagna il secondo tempo con un paio di occasioni di Villa e Xabi Alonso dalla distanza; i Campioni d’Europa cercano disperatamente il pareggio. Al cinquantatreesimo contatto in area: Donovan su Xavi, era rigore netto, ma l’arbitro non lo concede alimentando molte proteste in panchina. Attacca la Spagna mettendo in difficoltà gli Statunitensi; finalmente viene fuori la squadra dei record: cambia il volto della semifinale. E’un assedio, una gara ad una porta sola: gioca solo la Spagna che dopo aver regalato un primo tempo agli Stati Uniti, sta dominando il secondo. Villa e Ramos hanno le occasioni più evidenti, ma di contro c’è un grande Howard che neutralizza tutto. Incredibile al settantatreesimo ennesimo errore spagnolo, di Sergio Ramos su deviazione di Pique e ne approfitta Dempsey che realizza il 2-0. La Spagna prova il forcing finale, ma si copre bene la formazione di Bradley. La partita si chiude con l’espulsione di Bradley per gioco scorretto. USA in finale, affronterà la vincente di Brasile-SudAfrica, mentre per la Spagna si aprono le porte della finale di consolazione.

La chicca – La parte più significativa del match la si ritrova nel prepartita con l’abbraccio delle due squadre nel dir di no al Razzismo, a quindici anni dalla fine dell’Apartheid in Sudafrica. Durante il match si mette in evidenza il pubblico allietandoci con delle magnifiche ole e cori simpatici.

La chiave – Gli Stati Uniti sbloccano il match grazie ai tanti errori degli spagnoli che permettono agli avversari, dunque, di innescare le loro azioni offensive e rendersi sempre pericolosi fin dal primo minuto. Errore fatale di Xavi che non tiene bene la marcatura su Altidore che da posizione ravvicinata spiazza Casillas. Sbaglia diversi passaggi anche Villa; ne approfittano sempre gli USA.

Top&Flop – Buon primo tempo degli Stati Uniti; promossi Davies, Altidore, Donovan e Dempsey. La Spagna è assente nel primo tempo, mentre disputa un ottimo secondo tempo. Non convince Fabregas, troppi errori nel primo tempo di Xavi e Capdevilla (vero flop del match, completamente assente). Nella ripresa bene Villa e Ramos.
