Air France (Paris) brought the new Airbus A380 to New York (JFK) yesterday (November 20, 2009). Operating as flight AF 380 it carried 380 winning bidders on the auction flight. The proceeds will go to humanitarian projects. Regular CDG-JFK service commences on November 23.

This morning (November 20), at 11:39 am, Air France’s A380 took off from Paris-Charles de Gaulle, operating flight AF 380, the first transatlantic flight between Europe and the United States by A380. Among the passengers were the 380 winning bidders for seats on the inaugural Paris-New York – Paris flights. This auction raised proceeds of 300,000 euros which will finance five different humanitarian projects by charities chosen by the Air France Foundation.

The aircraft, registration F-GHJA, landed at New York-Kennedy airport at 1:20 local time, 7:20 Paris time.

The proceeds of this auction of seats on the two inaugural Paris-New York-Paris flights finally reached 300,000 euros, more than expected. The amount will thus finance 5 humanitarian projects for children in need instead of the three initially planned.

The benefits of the auction for the inaugural Paris-New York-Paris flights will go to several projects in aid of humanitarian associations for children in need all over the world. The Air France Foundation supports these projects.

Starting on Monday November 23, the A380 will operate daily scheduled flights:

• AF 006 Paris-New York leaving at 1:30, arriving at 3:45 pm;
• and AF 007 New York-Paris leaving at 7:15 pm, arriving at 8:35 the following day.

From Paris, Air France will operate the A380 on its Johannesburg route as from February 3, 2010 and will therefore be the first airline to operate the A380 to Africa.

Air France (Paris) is planning to bring its first Airbus A380 to Paris (Orly) on November 11 at 1700 local time for airport familiarization (as an alternate airport). AF is due to take delivery of F-HPJA (msn 033) on October 30 and the new type will go into revenue service on November 23 between Paris (CDG) and New York (JFK).

Volume 033: Across the Border

Just came back from the US and it feels great to be back in Canadian soil. It was a short family trip to Niagara Falls, Buffalo, and western New York with a focus on shopping at outlet malls. We focused on any good deals we could find and did some comparing when we came back and went to the Canadian outlet. Some brands were cheaper in the US, and some surprising cheaper on our side.

Cheaper in the US
+ Bose speakers and headphones
Even with exchange rate, I feel we are getting the shaft when I saw how insanely cheaper bose headphones are in NY, I saw so many things at or below $100 USD. I go to Yorkdale mall Bose store and its $299 and $399 here and there. Too bad I can’t get a pair, headphones damages your hearing.

+ Best Buy USA
Oblivion GOTY for $19.99 USD, go to Best Buy or EB Games in Toronto, $29.99 CDN. With exchange rate (1 for 1.2) for American price to Canadian is $23.98 CDN. We are getting the shaft on games. So I bought Oblivion for $19 bucks. I should come down more often!

+ UnderArmor
Heatgear is cheaper from 15-20 bucks for most clothing in the US. Even after exchange rate and taxes the disparity is at least $10. Buy UA in the US. The only saving grace is that our coldgear is on par with the US price tags. Makes sense since we are the colder nation eh?

+ Banana Republic
I now realize how overpriced BR is in Toronto. Imagine BR clothing under $20.

Cheaper in Canada
+ Nike
After going through 3 outlets, at least we have cheaper Nike clothing. $9 shirts on our side, $14-$19 on their side. Nike Dry Fit is about on par on both sides.

+ Best Buy Canada for gift cards & iPods!
$50 iTunes gift card in USD and CDN. I go to iTunes and exact pricing regardless Canada or USA. May as well stay Canadian, its cheaper. PS3 prices are funny too. Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is $34.99 at EB games Canada, but $39.99 at Best Buy USA. Guess we are cheaper for PS3.

Here’s the kicker: 8GB iPod Touch is $229 in Buffalo, but $239 in Toronto. Exchange rate the USD price to Canadian is $275.98. We are cheaper by $36. It gets better for  32GB at $399.99 USD, converted to $479.99 CDN. But Guess how much it is in Best Buy Canada? $409.99 CDN. We are cheaper by almost $70, that’s PDG. Still, Apple is overpriced.

+ Sony Store
80GB PS3 for $399.99 in USA. And same price in Sony Store in Canada. We are cheaper!

Draw on both sides
+ Reebok
It’s stalement for Reebok (RBK), when we found stuff cheaper on the US side, come back to Canada, another half of the stuff cheaper. Depends what you get, so it’s a draw.

+ Calvin Klein
Similar thing, no knockout cheaper prices, a draw. Although there was a huge sale on underclothing, if you need some of that.

+ Tommy Hilfiger
Same story as Calvin Klein. The funny part is that every outlet we went too, the layout is all identical. Every store has same design.

As for women’s clothing, my mom was in charge of that, and she found bargains back in Canada, not in the US. Something to keep in mind for the ladies.

Gisteravond was het volop aan bij de “Fakkelteit” editie van NextUpHipHop3.3 in De Peppel in Zeist. De hiphopformatie Nedertoon die onlangs hun ep “Dikmakers” uitbracht verzorgde een meer dan knallend voorprogramma.
Het main programma Sticks was aanwezig met Opgezwolle collega en goede vriend Rico en niet te vergeten de dj ART. Met een dikke anderhalf uur show, en veel echt oude klassiekers van het album “Spuugdingen” uit 2001 was het publiek getuige van een wel héél unieke show!
