If there are problems with information in your mailboxes, it may be necessary to reindex your messages. During this process, certain Mail folders on your computer are moved to another location, such as your desktop. When Mail is reopened, it rereads and reindexes all messages in all local mailboxes. The reindexing process can take several minutes depending on how many messages are in your local mailboxes.

When Mail detects a problem with your mailboxes, it may alert you that it needs to repair them by reindexing your messages. At other times, you can reindex messages yourself. To do so, quit Mail and, in the Mail folder in your home Library folder, move the Envelope Index file and any folders that begin with “Mac-”, “Exchange-”, or “IMAP-” to a different location, such as your desktop. When you reopen Mail, it reindexes all messages.

In some cases, you might need to rebuild a mailbox to update the list of messages in the mailbox–for example, if messages appear to be missing or garbled, or if you can’t find all relevant messages by searching. Rebuilding a mailbox can take awhile; it’s recommended for fast Internet connections only.

To rebuild a selected mailbox:

Choose Mailbox > Rebuild.

For IMAP accounts, locally cached messages and attachments are discarded and the messages and attachments are downloaded again from the server to your computer. Your mailbox appears empty until the download is complete.

J’ai constaté le succès de l’article précédent sur la crise au 104, c’est pourquoi je me permets de vous en redonner encore un peu. Vous vous souvenez? Les directeurs Robert Cantarella et Frédéric Fisbach comptaient demandé davantage de moyens. Une augmentation de 2 millions d’euros qui servirait notamment  à  alimenter les résidences d’artistes.

Cependant dût au contexte actuel Christophe Girard, adjoint PS à la Culture et président du conseil d’administration du “104″, a indiqué que ce n’était pas possible.

Pas possible donc? Les directeurs avaient conditionné leur deuxième mandat à cette augmentation. Lors du conseil d’administration, ils ont prévisiblement annoncé leur décision de ne pas renouveler leur mandat, qui arrive à échéance en mars 2010.

Avec 8 millions d’euros par an, la Ville de Paris estime contribuer suffisamment à cet établissement aux imposantes dimensions (39.000 m2), qui n’a pas encore trouvé sa vitesse de croisière. D’autant que les deux ans de travaux nécessaires à la restauration des anciennes pompes funèbres municipales à l’architecture Baltard avaient déjà coûté quelque 100 millions d’euros. Selon la mairie, le 104 dispose d’environ 3 millions d’euros de ressources propres: mécénat et commercialisation d’espaces.

L’établissement a besoin, selon Christophe Girard, d’un « gestionnaire », plutôt qu’un artiste cette fois. Mais il prévient: « il faudra chercher des partenariats mais nous ne nous faisons pas trop d’illusions, en ce moment, il n’y a pas d’argent providentiel. Il n’y a qu’une bonne gestion rigoureuse et inventive à avoir ».

Voilà un certain temps déjà que le théâtre « subventionné » s’est emparé du jeune public, allant jusqu’à créer des Centre Dramatiques Nationaux à Strasbourg, Lille ou Lyon, dont la vocation était entièrement vouée aux enfants. Je connais bien ces structures pour avoir participé à des créations d’une grande qualité. C’est qu’il est question, lorsque le théâtre subventionné décide de monter un spectacle pour les plus jeunes, de déployer la même énergie que pour leurs aînés. « Faisons pour nos chères têtes blondes ce que nous ferions pour leurs parents : Texte solide, comédiens impliqués, mise en scène précise et surtout moyens financiers ».

Je me souviens de cette « Chasse au Snark », d’après Lewis Carroll, que nous avions montée avec le Théâtre des Jeunes Années de Lyon. Sept acteurs chanteurs, univers scénographique remarquable, co-production avec les opéras de Saint-Étienne et de Tours. Une véritable invitation à aimer le théâtre pour les 8-12 ans.

Ces derniers temps, les très grosses machines à théâtre du secteur public se sont mises au diapason. La Comédie-Française, qui avait fait une première incursion dans le jeune public avec Bouli Miro de Fabrice Melquiot, y revient ce mois-ci avec « Le loup » de Marcel Aymé, mis en scène par Véronique Vella au Studio-Théâtre.

Le théâtre de la Ville a, quant à lui, présenté en octobre la suite des aventures de Bouli Miro, avec « Wanted Petula ». Seule mise en scène cette saison de son directeur Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota. Le spectacle est remarquable de finesse, de folie, d’invention, de prise en charge du monde de l’enfance que l’on quitte pour entrer dans l’adolescence et des questionnements qui en découlent.

Bouli décide de quitter ses parents divorcés et remariés pour partir dans l’espace à la recherche de sa cousine Petula, dont il veut un baiser. Quête existentielle où l’on croise un « faux » Petit Prince, Neil Amstrong, des aïeux disparus et finalement Petula.

Il ne faut pas rater « Wanted Petula », en tournée à la Comédie de Reims du 10 au 14 novembre et de retour à Paris au 104 (104, rue d’Aubervilliers Paris 19^e) du 19 au 23 décembre.

Adjusting Column Widths

In many programs, what you see on the screen is presented in columns. Good examples of this are spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel and Apple’s Numbers) and mail readers (Microsoft Entourage and Apple’s Mail.app). Adjusting these columns isn’t necessarily obvious, so here is how  you do it:

Place your cursor carefully on the dividing line between the column headings (Mail.app’s headings are shown below, but the idea is the same regardless of the application).

The cursor will change into a vertical line with horizontal arrows coming from each side. An enlarged picture of the cursor is shown.

When the cursor changes, you can drag horizontally. Doing so makes the column to the left of your cursor wider or narrower.

What is interesting about this activity is watching the computer scramble to rewrite it’s information to fit the space you give it. For example, as you make the Date Received column narrower, “Monday, November 2, 2009, 1:43 PM” Shrinks first to “Mon, Nov 2, 2009, 1:43 PM” to “11/2/09, 1:43 PM and finally to the terse “11/2/09.”

Rearranging Columns in Mail.app and Entourage.

Once you’ve adjusted the width of each column, you might want to change which columns are shown or the order in which the columns are shown. This is slightly different in each application, but the general idea is the same.

Mail.app: To change the order of the columns, place the cursor over the column header and the cursor will change to  a hand. Click and hold; then drag horizontally to change the order. To add or remove columns, use the View menu and choose Columns and then check or uncheck the columns you want to add or remove. To change the sort order, click on the column header to reverse the sort. Click again to sort the opposite way.

Entourage: Entourage makes this confusing, because depending on where your preview pane is the functionality changes. If your preview pane is on the right, you will not have the option to change the columns, but only to change the the sort method. If your preview pane is below, then you can change the order of the columns by clicking and dragging horizontally (you’ll see the hand cursor); change the sort order by clicking on the column header, and choose which columns are shown in the View -> Columns menu.

Le 104, haut lieu de la création en plein coeur du 19e, devait être le phare de Bertrand Delanoe. Pourtant, un an après son ouverture, il semble ne pas remplir ses fonctions… Le 12 novembre, Les deux directeurs du lieu, les metteurs en scène Robert Cantarella et Frédéric Fisbach, devront justifier d’un déficit de 600000 euros!

Plusieurs pistes nous éclairent sur les difficultés que traversent le 104:

• Le pari était de donner le temps à des auteurs singuliers de faire émerger leur création. Ce qui pose le problème de leur notoriété et de la difficulté donc de faire bouger les gens pour des inconnus.
• Le 104 devait être une “ruche des arts “. L’allée centrale qui relie la rue Curial à la rue d’Aubervilliers était censée devenir un “passage public” : or, c’est souvent morne plaine. La crise économique a aussi retardé les travaux, comme le retaurant qui n’ouvrira ses portes qu’en Mai 2010
• Les directeurs réclament plus d’argent pour faire démarrer le lieu. Cantarella est catégorique : “On a besoin de 2 millions supplémentaires. Tout, ou presque, part dans le fonctionnement du bâtiment.” Chauffage, entretien, sécurité… et salaires. Le 104 a été calibré pour un volant de soixante salariés permanents. Un effectif qui s’est vite révélé insuffisant.

Plusieurs artistes confirment : faute d’argent, ils ne peuvent utiliser pleinement le formidable outil qu’est le 104. Organiser une projection dans la salle de deux cents places ? Impossible, le 104 ne peut pas payer un technicien de plus. Faire venir le philosophe Jean-Luc Nancy pour une conférence ? Bonne idée, mais qui va payer son billet de train ? Vendredi 30 octobre, le 104 était fermé au public. Loué à une entreprise pour un événement.

View Multiple Contacts Instead of single-clicking a contact in Address Book, double-click on the contact to open up that card in its own window. If the default Address Book cards don’t have enough fields for all the info you want to collect for your contacts, head to the Template screen in Address Book’s preferences, and click Add Field to add additional fields onto all of your cards. You can also click the little green plus signs to add even more variations of the same type of fields.

Address Book also lets you create your own custom fields. On the same Preferences > Template screen, you can click on most of the field labels and select Custom, where you can name your very own custom fields that will appear on each card.

We’ve already added the custom fields Hours, Referred By, and Rates. You can add even more by choosing Custom from almost any field label.

It’s easy enough to click on an Address Book group and see which contacts are part of that group. But what if you want to go the other way around and see which groups a particular contact belongs to? Simply hold down the Option key after you’ve selected the contact’s card, and Address Book will highlight all the groups that person is a part of.

Holding down Option shows us that this contact belongs to six groups.
