This month Macau celebrated the 10th year of the transfer of the territory’s sovereignty from Portuguese to Chinese hands.

I have many fond memories of Macau because I’ve been there twice: first in 2007 for about three hours, and then this year for three weeks.

I was not there during the festivities, but I’d like to take part in the celebration by enumerating the top 10 attractions that visitors ought to see when they’re in Macau.

Bush Radio’s Media Kidocracy Konference (MKK 2009) met for the 10^th time today at the St Agnes Primary School in Woodstock.

The station’s unique programme is a platform created to bring young people under one umbrella to discuss issues that affect them and uses media to address these.

Delivering his opening address at the conference, the station’s programme integrator Adrian Louw briefed the delegates and participants about the programme’s history.

“MKK initially started as Radio Kidocracy Konference about ten years ago enabling the youth to gather and discuss issues that affect them within the media landscape,” said Louw.

He highlighted that even though financial constraints were persistent in the work of the programme, emphasised that MKK will take its full course.

He challenged participants to engage in debate around issues that affect them, and to empower themselves with the resources and opportunities at their disposal.

Jennifer Hartnick a former teacher and currently Western Cape Provincial Parliament MP reiterated to the youth that they should make use of the available opportunities.

“You should count yourselves lucky that today you have great opportunities such as these, we only dreamt of,” Hartnick said.

Giving a soulful address Hartnick, who also chairs the education, sport and cultural affairs committee, said with her experience as teacher, she likes working with children and it’s a point to tackle issues that affect young people in her work.

“During June we do have youth debates in parliament and we would like to have the MKK part of our youth programmes,” added Hartnick.

Veteran participant , Mfundo Dafeti, who has been with the programme for five consecutive years, said his experience has been great and wonderful throughout the years.

“Because of my enjoyment and wonderful work I did in this programme I will definitely be part of it again next year although 2009 is officially my final year,” said Dafeti.

Dave McNamara chief director at the Social Development department said MKK’s theme of “Away from Violence” was relevant, given the high rates of alcohol and substance abuse which is a major contributor to violence in the province.

Not only serious talk got the delegates moving; Cape Town song writer and composer, Chad Saaiman, kept the audience thrilled throughout his performance.

Some of the topics to be tackled at this year’s meeting include violence and drug abuse amongst others.

I had the best day yesterday! First, because of the snow, everyone was home all day (except Amelia, Stephen and Levi, of course). Since quality time is my primary love language, just having everyone home to interact with and talk to all day was heavenly. Oh, my! What bliss!

Second, I got to complete a chore that I have difficulty chipping away at 15 minutes at a time: entirely switching out the seasonal clothes for everyone. I love our Family Closet and the way we have all of the clothing (current- and out-of-season, fitting- and waiting-to-be-grown-into) in one, easily accessible, clearly visible location. Theoretically, I should be able to grab the box of winter, size 6, girl’s tops and just plug it into Charlotte’s tops slot. Inevitably, though, there are tops in there that fit the last wearer (Lydia, in this case), but just don’t work for the current wearer. (This example is perfect because Lydia is very, very slim and Charlotte is of average build.) So, I really need to quickly go through each box as I trade it out and make sure that the clothing in it will work for the current wearer while filling the Goodwill bag with the rejects.

Because all of the kids were home, I could start at the top, passing down out-grown clothing that had strayed from its appropriate box, double-checking for fit, etc. If I were to try to do this 15-minutes at a time, it would take me, let’s see, twenty-two sessions. In between sessions, those clothes that were being passed down would be sitting somewhere in the Family Closet room. When I finally got back to them in the next session, I would forget where they were supposed to go, or they would have been strewn about by some innocent by-stander. I’m not saying that someone else with better memory couldn’t do this task 15-minutes at a time, I’m just saying that I can’t do it efficiently in spurts. SO, Joey and I had already planned to do this on a day when he was home and could supervise and tend to the small folk while I focused on this job for several hours. That day was yesterday. Everyone’s clothing is now tidily returned to its appropriate spot and the Goodwill bag is ready to be delivered.

The third thing I got to do yesterday was listen to Flylady’s 10th anniversary show on blog talk radio. Usually, I would have been at Jazzercise during the show, but, due to the snow, I was, obviously, home. That was the first time I’d logged in to the show. For some reason, I thought our slow internet connection would make it no fun to listen to, but it was as clear and consistent as any regular radio reception. (I’m probably showing my ignorance of technology right now!) It was fun to hear people’s comments and to participate in the chat. I’m going to try to participate more often, now.

The fourth treat of the day was more Family Fun. After supper (and after I had practiced my piano part for the church Christmas program — that’s a 15-minutes-at-a-time project, for sure), Joey got out the Bingo game. Oh, my. You should hear Anne holler out random letters and numbers and squeal. It’s hilarious. So, the day ended with everyone (except Amelia, Stephen and Levi, of course) gathered around the table playing Bingo and laughing.

I love snow days!

When it comes to sneaker websites, Niketalk has to be the most infamous one[named best sneaker website by Playboy Magazine]. It has  been around since 1999 and for their 10th Anniversary they will be releasing four limited edition tees. For the past couple of years, they have been releasing new tees, but I think this year is their best ones yet. The tees may not make sense if you aren’t a NT’er so just move along if you have no idea what I am talking about. I’ve been on Niketalk since 2003 and will be looking to cop the NT Knows tee. NT may not be as resourceful as it once was, but you gotta love the comedy in the General section.

And so we all know that Yusei, Judai and Yugi will be in this film… but what’s the plot?

The magical plot:

Apparently, some guy named Paradox stole Yusei’s Stardust Dragon. Yusei pursues Paradox, who can actually slip into time periods. Yusei ends up meeting Judai from another timeline and, somehow, through the power of Yubel, discovers that Paradox is aiming to use Stardust Dragon to destroy the world by converting it to the dark side and to kill Pegasus J. Crawford (or Maximillion Pegasus in the English dub), creator of the Duel Monsters card game in the past, thus cancelling its existence.

They both travel into time back and meets the King of Games, Yugi, who joins their mini expedition in time to defeat Paradox, not only saving the world (of card games) but also to retrieve Stardust Dragon.

Additional info:

The title of the film will be Gekijouban Yuu-Gi-Ou! ~Chou Yuugou! Jikuu o Koeta Kizuna~ or Yu-Gi-Oh! Movie ~Ultra Fusion! Bonds over Time and Space~ (劇場版　遊☆戯☆王　～超融合！時空を越えた絆～). It will be in full 3D. The theme for the movie is called makemagic by jealkb (which the villain Paradox, played by Tamura Atsushi, is a part of).

Seeing as the title is “Ultra Fusion”, I can already see Neos fusing with everything it sees. Most likely a combined version of the three’s ace monsters. Most likely through Judai’s Super Polymerization card.

Another promo video was released along with Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s episode 87. It replaced the closing song’s video which usually shows weird art of the 5D’s characters.

Media Kidocracy Konference 2009 Bush Radio in association with the Children’s Radio Education Workshop (CREW) project is in the final stages of planning its 10th annual Media Kidocracy Konference (MKK).

The conference will take place from the 14th – 18th of December 2009 at St. Agnes Primary School in Woodstock.

Youth between the ages of 12 and 18 will get together to explore issues that are pertinent to themselves and their peers as well as use different forms of media to develop a media campaign that will create social awareness.

Topics will include: citizenship, child labour, substance abuse, language and culture, gender-based violence and pollution.

These will be explored through various media such as dance and/or drama, online and/or print, radio, T.V. and photography.

Through these media, they can critically appraise where they are now in life and how their current behaviour will help or hinder them achieve the future they want.

Background on MKK

As part of a growing need for youth participation in the decision-making process and policy formulation around children’s broadcasting, Bush Radio initiated a conference which would tackle these issues and also feed into this debate.

The Kidocracy (Kid-democracy) name was created for the event to denote a form of society characterized by social equality and acceptance of young people with representation for and by young people.

The Media Kidocracy Konference aims to establish critical awareness and understandings amongst young people by exposing youth to information and experiences that will enable them to identify issues they feel are relevant as well as explore the role of the media in creating an understanding of the social issue.

MKK also assists participants in devising strategies for addressing the social issues by using the media as a tool to help resolve and address these issues.

This year marks the anniversary of H.G. Bishop David’s ordination as a bishop and 10 years of his blessed service here on the east coast.  His Grace Bishop David was honored at two functions, a banquet held in his honor at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Secaucus, NJ on Nov. 17, 2009 and an anniversary celebration held at St. Aedan’s Roman Catholic Church in Jersey City, NJ on Nov. 18, 2009.   Attending these events were some of our blessed hierarchs of our sister oriental orthodox churches,  distinguished political guests, clergy, and congregation.

Among those in attendance was H.E. Archbishop Khajag Barsamian of the Armenian Orthodox Church, H.E. Metropolitan Zacharias of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, and Very Rev. Chorepiscopus John Meno, on behalf of H.E. Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim of the Syrian Orthodox Church.  Both nights were filled with speeches, video presentations (see below), choirs, etc… that were an attempt, but could not express our love and gratitude to our beloved Anba David.

May the Lord keep for us the life of our holy righteous father, our patriarch Pope Shenouda III, and his partner in the apostolic ministry, our father the Bishop Anba David for many years and peaceful times.  Amen. Amen. Amen.
