New Moon (To love again) What do you think?
I’ve read the book of new moon and saw the film last night (by the way, it was amazing!) And have any of you heard of Alesha Dixons new song: To love again? Well i used the tune of that to make up my own song about New moon. It’s called: I can’t let you go. Please can you read it and tell me what you think and if the lyrics relate to New moon?

these cookies were for a friend to give her brother in law for his birthday. They are designed after the truck that he restored. I was so happy to hear that they enjoyed them and that his wife even blogged about them!

Sajjad Hussain was a music director who was not very diplomatic when it came to dealing with people. And he was very demanding of his singers too. He would create songs that would require his singers to give their best, and even then he would not be fully satisfied.

He rubbed influential people the wrong way and that ensured that he got very few assignments despite being the “only original music director in Bollywood” ( as described by Anil Biswas ). Sajjad Hussain got to compose music in only about 100 odd songs, but each and everyone of these songs is a delight to listen to.

Here is a lovely song from “Sainyaa” (1951). What a fabulous song it is !

The song is sung by Lata and picturised on Madhubala and others as a dance song. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. It is a superb song, which is picturised nicely as well.

“Sazaa”(1951) has a few very nice songs that I was aware of and whicch I have already posted. I stumbled upon another song from this movie about which I was just not aware. The song as well as the picturisation just bowled me over as soon as I got an opportunity to watch this song.

The song is a joie de vivre genre of song. Lata sings this song with gusto and Shyama dances joyously all over the place. This song is one of the most joyful songs that I have come across yet.

Rajinder Krishan has come up with very nice lyrics. S D Burman’s music is just wonderful. Just imagine- I heard a song with was recorded nearly 58 years ago, and I found this song in freshly minted condition. This experience of finding a “new” great song is priceless.

What I knew about “Taraanaa” (1951) was that the movie had Dilip Kumar and Madhubala in lead roles. But was that all ? there was more to it than just these two.

Here is a song from this movie to show what I mean. The song begins with a pretty lady singing a nice song. Close scrutiny reveals that it is a vet young and pretty Madhubala singing in Lata’s voice. After two stanzas, the voice changes, as does the lady. Madubala is replaced by another pretty lady and Lata’s voice gives way to another voice. Close scrutiny reveals that it is a young and Pretty Shyama singing in the voice of Sandhya Mukherji. So a song that I expected to be a Lata song picturised on Madhubala proves to be a double bill, both in audio as well as picturisation. Two of my favourite pretty ladies in the same song picturisation- this is indeed a nice and pleasant surprise. and for that reason, I would regard this song as a special song.

This is a lovely song, written by Prem Dhawan, and its music is composed by Anil Biswas.this song is indeed a forgotten gem.

“Baadal” (1951) was a movie in which Premnath and Madhubala played the lead roles. Yes, Premnath used to be hero of Bollywood movies those days.

“Baadal” was a musical blockbuster and I have already posted as many as four songs from this movie. I am nowhere close to being finished with the songs of this movie though, seeing the songs that I keep unearthing from this movie.

I have posted a song from “Bahaar” (1951) in the past. That song was the well known song “Sainyaa dil mein aana re” which was sung by Shamshad Begam and picturised on Vyjyanti Mala.

When I was young, I disliked old songs, and I would only listen to new songs, which meant songs of 1970s. But now I cannot have enough of old songs, viz songs of 1950s and even earlier. In fact, I love the music of the songs in these songs.

Among all the music directors of those days, I love listening to the music of Husnlal Bhagatram. Their music has some special old fashioned charm.

Here is a song from “Afsaana” (1951). The voice looks different, but I find that this voice belongs to none other than Lata. So it shows that even Lata’s voice was influenced by the leading singers of those days in the early days of her career.

I listened to this song for the first time today, and I loved it listening to it. This song must be one of the more popular songs created by Husnlal Bahagatram, seeing that its video links are available. I found this song a nice song to listen to.

Husnlal Bhagatram were perhaps the first music directors who formed a team and composed music by their combined names. Later on, their lead was taken by Shankar Jaikishan, and then by Kalyanji Anandji, Laxmikant Pyarelal etc. Incidentally, Bhagatram’s brother, called Pt Amarnath, was a music director too.

“Sanam” (1951) was a movie that had Dev Anand, Suraiyya, Meena Kumari,K N Singh and Gope in main roles. It is interesting to note that this movie was the last movie of Dev Anand and Suraiyya together.

It may be difficult to imagine today, but villains like Premnath and Ajit started their filmy careers as heroes in late 1940s-early 1950s, and they in fact acted as heroes for almost a decade before becoming villains. As far as Premnath was concerned, he was a hero in A grade movies too.

Lou Ferrigno & The Incredible Hulk

 

Louis “Lou” Jude Ferrigno (born November 9, 1951) is an American bodybuilder and actor. Ferrigno has appeared in such television series and movies as The Incredible Hulk (playing David Banner’s bulky alter ego, the Hulk), the bodybuilding documentary Pumping Iron, European-produced fantasy-adventures including Sinbad of the Seven Seas and Hercules, and most recently in the 2009 comedy I Love You, Man. He is best known for playing the Hulk, but more recently had a recurring role, as himself, in the sitcom The King of Queens.

After graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1969, Ferrigno won his first major titles, IFBB Mr. America and IFBB Mr. Universe, four years later. In 1974, he came in second on his first attempt at the Mr. Olympia competition. He then came third the following year, and his attempt to beat Arnold Schwarzenegger was the subject of the 1975 documentary Pumping Iron. Following this, Ferrigno left the competition circuit for many years, a period that included a stint as a defensive lineman for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League.

25th Anniversary Edition

Ferrigno competed in the first World’s Strongest Man contest in 1977, where he finished fourth in a field of eight competitors. While competing, Ferrigno regularly went to see a physician who checked up on whether he was doing damage to his body.

First Season 1978

Ferrigno signed up with Universal Studios in 1977 for the title role opposite Bill Bixby as the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk. Richard Kiel was hired for the series first, and scenes were filmed. It was quickly determined he was not muscular enough, and Ferrigno was signed. One quick shot of Kiel remains in the pilot movie. Although he did not share a line with Bixby on the set (except for one episode, “King of the Beach”), the two were friends. Ferrigno continued playing the Hulk role until 1981, although the last two episodes were not broadcast until May 1982. Later, he and Bixby co-starred in three The Incredible Hulk TV movies. There were major talks of another movie, The Rebirth of The Incredible Hulk, but due to Bixby’s death, the project never went beyond the earliest stages of development. Ferrigno continued to keep in touch with Bixby until his death on November 21, 1993. Ferrigno attended Bixby’s funeral in California.

During competition, the 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) Ferrigno’s contest weight was 285 lb (130 kg) in 1975, and 316 lb (143 kg) in 1992; he was one of the tallest

professional bodybuilders at that time.

In the early 1990s, Ferrigno returned to bodybuilding, competing for the 1992 and 1993 Mr. Olympia titles. Finishing 12th and 10th, respectively, he then turned to the Masters Olympia, coming second in 1994 to Robby Robinson. After this, he retired from competition.

Carla Ferrigno told Reuters that her husband had been helping Michael Jackson train in advance of his 2009-2010 concerts at the time of his death. Jackson and Ferrigno have worked together in the past.

This song is sung with enthusiasm by Lata. And I am not familiar with the actors on whom this song is picturised.The credit of the movie states that Ulhas,Asha Mathur, BIna Rai, Kishore Sahu were the lead actors of this movie. So two out of these four (one male and one female actor) figure in this song.

Shailendra is the lyricist whereas Shankar Jaikishan composed the music. Some of the lines in the song soung gibberish to me, and I am not sure I got them correctly in the lyrics, despite listeneing to the song several times. I hope readers of this blog with keener ears will point out the mistakes in the errors ,so that I may be able to correct them.

This song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Madhubala, then just 18 years old, and she looks stunning in this picturisation.

Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist and Shankar Jaikishan composed the music. It is a nice song to listen to. I think this is the first time I heard this song today and I liked it .

“Aaraam” (1951) was a movie where Dev Anand was the hero. But in this movie one can also see a very young Premnath.

In this movie, one can also see a very young Talat Mehmood. And here, he not only acts, but also sings a song that is picturised on himself.

This song is a ghazal, and this must be one of the earliest ghazals created in Bollywood movies. And it is this song that brought Talat Mehmood to limelight as a singer.

The picturisation shows Talat Mehmood singing this song in a gathering. Talat Mehmood is not seated on a piano, as was the Bollywood tradition for party songs. Rather he has a harmonium with him and he plays the harmonium while singing this song. Considering that he himself sang the song, and the fact that it is actually possible to sing while playng harmonium- this song must be regarded as one of the few realistically picturised party songs of Bollywood movies.

Anil Biswas, who discoverd Talat Mehmood and gave him him his initial break is the music director.

We tend to praise the singer as well as music director and often forget the contribution of the lyricist ? There is no doubt in my mind that it is the lyrics penned by Rajinder Krishan that deserves lot of credit behind the potency of this song. People love this song because of the words which touch the heart strings of the listeners. Rajinder Krishan, in my opinion , was one of the most influential (even though unhyped) of the lyricists of the golden era of Bollywood movie music. And this song is a very good example of his genius.

I have posted a couple of songs from “Sazaa” (1951) already, but even I was not aware of this song.

This song is a duet sung by Lata and Talat Mehmood. I can see Dev Anand in the picturisation, but who is the lady lip syncing in Lata’s voice ? As it is, I am very poor when it comes to identifying old actresses. And she does not look like Kamini Kaushal who is the heroine of this movie as per the cast.
PS- Now, based on Lalitha’s hint, I believe that she is Nimmi.

Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist and S D Burman is the music director. Though I heard this song for the first time only just now, it is clear to me that this song is a gem, and is worth listeneing to time and again.
