<p>For Turkey Day 2009 I figured what better way to celebrate here at The Trash Cinema Collective than with the 1972 Anti-Drug, Pro-Christian, Mutant Killer Turkey film&#8230;Blood Freak!</p>
<p>That&#8217;s right, hold onto Plymouth Rock and prepare yourself for horrendous audio, unintelligible mumbling, bio-hazardous turkey meat, real life turkey decapitation, bible thumpers in red hot pants, sibling rivalry, turkey poking, mutant sex, cock blockage, a God live ever present narrator, the complimentary use of the term &#8220;husky&#8221;, real life amputees, lots of screaming, copious blood squirting, and poultry rage!</p>
<p>This episode wouldn&#8217;t have been possible without the indispensable help of Team Trash Cinema: Erica Andrus, Justin Falco and Terrius Greene whose performances bring this Thanksgiving Holiday Special to life. Thanks again, gang!</p>

<p>Good movie suggestions?<br />
					My best friends are out of town, I&#8217;m bored, and I&#8217;ve got Netflix. Movies that I&#8217;ve recently seen that I loved were Bertolucci&#8217;s The Dreamers, (I know about Last Tango but my friend, who had also seen Dreamers, said it wasn&#8217;t as good) and one I watched a few days ago Havoc 2: Normal Adolescent Behavior. (Watched trailer for the first Havoc, again, didn&#8217;t seem that great). I was on Amazon.com looking up related movies and saw The Virgin Suicides, Gia, and Thirteen, but&#8230;they&#8217;re not exactly what I&#8217;m looking for. <br />
Like I said, The Dreamers ( which takes place in Paris) and Normal Adolescent Behavior (which is just a fascinating story) are ideals.<br />
Also, related foreign movies would be great too.<br />
So any suggestions?<br />

Gas was almost 5 dollars per gallon and it was costing me 200 dollars per week just to get to work! How crazy is that? We&#8217;re talking a mortgage payment  just to commute to work.  I didn&#8217;t want to get rid of my pick up truck since it was paid for and I do use it for hauling stuff that just won&#8217;t fit in a car. I like my truck. The thought of selling it just didn&#8217;t sit right with me. So I started looking for a commuter car. Something used. Something economical. Something nice. Unfortunately, I couldn&#8217;t find what I was looking for.</p>

<p>My wife (yes my wife is awesome!) suggested that I look at a motorcycle. They get great millage (50mpg), there inexpensive, and their fun to ride. I ended buying a Yamaha VStar. I love this bike! Its easy to ride, comfortable and gets great gas millage. I put about 10,000 mile per year on it, almost all of those miles dedicated to my commute to work.I had forgotten how much fun a motorcycle could be.</p>
<p>Riding my new bike reminded me of my brother Al. He died in a motorcycle wreck  on May 13 1986. His death is what has kept me off of a bike for over 2 decades.I was glad to get back on a bike. I had forgotten how fun a motorcycle could be.</p>
<p>Al had left behind a bike that he bought back in the seventies.A <a href="http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1972-kawasaki-h2-750-mach-4.htm"><strong>1972 Kawasaki 750 H2</strong></a>. A Tripple. The Widowmaker.</p>
<p>A very fast loud and obnoxious bike.I could hear him riding that bike from miles away, literally. It was a screamer. He was always tinkering with it to make it go faster. I asked my dad if the bike was still around. He said it was. One of my other brothers was going to restore it about15 years ago but didn&#8217;t get very far. He took it apart, and that&#8217;s about as far as he got. The engine was kept in the garage, but the rest of the bike was left outside for about 15 years!</p>

<p>My dad brought the bike to me in June of 2009. He warned me that it was in pretty bad shape. he was not kidding. It was worse than I thought. The bike was in really bad shape. I mean really bad. My first thought was that I would never be able to restore this bike. It was too far gone. The motor was probably shot from sitting. The carbs had to be ruined. I would be better off buying another Tripple and  make it look like Al&#8217;s bike and call it good. The only thing I could do with the bike was put it in the garage and forget about it. That&#8217;s exactly what I did until now. Its time to get to work on this thing.</p>

<p>The Engine actually turns over so nothing has seized on it. The carbs were kept in a sealed  box. Its missing the magneto and the engine cover surrounding it. The tank is rusted inside and out. I don&#8217;t know if I&#8217;ll be able to save it. There is a used bike parts store across the street from my work. The guy there said that they may have some of the parts I needed for the bike and one of the mechanics there had about seven of these bikes at his house (he must be a collector).</p>
<p>So This is where my project begins. In honor and memory of my brother Al, I am going to restore the 2009 version of his bike to it&#8217;s 1980 condition. I have no idea how long it will take to do this. But I&#8217;m always up for a challenge. I&#8217;ll keep posting to this blog every step of the way.  Any helpful comments or words of encouragement will always be welcome&#8230;&#8230;</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>When we went for our weekly trip down the dark halls of CraigsList and saw the words Road Runner and NASCAR pop up in a listing, we cringed and clicked the mouse button. We were shocked to find a bitchin&#8217; car that we&#8217;d proudly drive the wheels off of.</p>
<p>We were convinced that this thing would be a mess. Some hacked up, mullet-worthy creation that had been sitting behind someone&#8217;s house for a decade or so. Instead, this is a nicely done car, signed by Richard Petty, that has a nice drivetrain and all the right stuff to turn heads at any cruise night or car show.</p>
<p>Sure, it&#8217;s not for the owner who wants to blend in with the crowd, but hey, what hot rodder on Earth wants to meld into the crowd? Not us, that&#8217;s for sure! The price tag is steep, but not totally unreasonable as everything on the car is brand new and this baby is a turn key find.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Cries and Whispers]]></title>

<p>For Ingmar Bergman, most of his visions came in black and white and, therefore, most of his films were reflected in black and white. An exception is 1972’s heart-wrenching <em>Cries and Whispers</em>. The use of saturated crimson speaks volumes in this generally quiet motion picture. It is, according to Bergman, the colour of the interior of the soul.</p>
<p>Without question, <em>Cries and Whispers</em> is no easy experience. The markings of Bergman are present, but this picture is almost exceedingly bleak. There is a sense that the movie is coated in despair and in suffering, as though Bergman is pressing these themes harder than ever before. Hope appears but seems fleeting, as though it has long since been abandoned by both the characters and the man behind the camera.</p>
<p><em>Cries and Whispers</em> revolves around four women. There is Agnes (Harriet Andersson) and she is dying a painful death. Her pain is excruciating to watch, as she struggles for air and writhes in continual anguish as she essentially waits to die. Tending to her are her two sisters, Maria (Liv Ullmann) and Karin (Ingrid Thulin), and her maid, Anna (Kari Sylwan).</p>
<p>Bergman uses flashbacks to return to the lives of the characters as they deal with the inevitable passing of Agnes. We learn about the rift between Karin and Maria, of the anguish of their individual lives as borne out through bizarre and violent action and stifled emotional distress. Neither sister is particularly close to the dying Agnes nor can neither offer much comfort. It is only Anna who, in her selflessness, can bring peace to Agnes.</p>
<p>In essence, <em>Cries and Whispers</em> is a film about suffering. Each woman encounters it in her own way and each deal with the emotional and physical impact in her own way. The male characters are on the sidelines, for the most part, serving to only torment or ignore the female characters. The women, despite Bergman’s basic honour towards them, represent varying degrees of monstrosity. Purity is hard to find in Bergman’s vision here, save for the elegance of Anna who manages to remain innocent due to her faithfulness and compassion.</p>
<p>When one considers Karin, for instance, and the vile act of mutilation she performs on herself as revenge against her husband, the painful selfishness is exemplified in the most grotesque of fashions. And Maria, too, drives her husband to suicide due to her own sexual issues. It is suggested that Agnes has cancer related to her own sexual anatomy, which is another sign of Bergman’s designs towards impurity in his characters.</p>
<p>What the characters do share is agony and anguish, of course, and Bergman’s picture is very clear as to how poisonous this concept is. His use of colour paints the soul a vicious, sudden red. His use of carefully designated camera angles further sets up his exploration, illustrating closeness to Agnes’ tortured existence or distance between Karin and Maria.</p>
<p>Religion, too, remains one of Bergman’s points of exploration. <em>Cries and Whispers</em> holds Anna’s faith in the highest regard, but there appears to be a sense of resentment towards her faithfulness in the darkest and bleakest of hours. As a director, Bergman often dealt with the theme of religion’s inability to offer legitimate comfort in true hours of need. <em>Cries and Whispers</em> makes this point clearly and then some.</p>
<p><em>Cries and Whispers</em> is a difficult motion picture. It is excruciating to watch at times and is exceptionally shot and performed. Nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture, marking an unusual moment for a foreign language picture, this is a film that takes attention, time and emotion to fully appreciate. It is bleak and painful, just like the lives and deaths of Bergman’s core characters. Finding a glimmer of hope, while difficult, is not impossible here.</p>
<p>It should be noted that <em>Cries and Whispers</em> isn&#8217;t a depressing piece of work, but rather that it requires a deep emotional well from which to draw. Films such as this are never depressing in that they represent such terrific filmmaking and performing, so it&#8217;s hard to walk away from this piece feeling anything but flabbergasted as though having spent time in the presence of something truly great.</p>

<p>9/11 was neither the first nor the last time that Muslims have killed Americans on U.S. soil in terror attacks. In fact, since that day, Muslims have killed at least 52 people in 31 separate acts of terrorism in the United States (by the standards that Muslim-American groups set for hate crimes). Perhaps more importantly, there have been quite a few planned mass murders of Americans by Islamic terrorists that were thwarted by the FBI, law enforcement and overseas intelligence operations both before and after 9/11.</p>
<p>By contrast, Muslim-Americans do not appear to be in any special danger from murderous (non-Muslim) religious fanatics, even in a nation awash in firearms. Identity groups, such as CAIR, whine incessantly about relatively trivial incidents while turning a blind eye to the horrible violence that is meted out daily in the name of their religion. This distasteful petulance offers insight not only into the character of Islam, but also the impressive religious tolerance that Americans manage to maintain.</p>
<p>For anyone wondering about the history of deadly Islamic terror on American soil in the last 35 years, here’s what we could find:</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>On an otherwise dull day at work, this sweet little item came across the wire: Bob Seger is coming out with a new CD chock full of some of his earliest songs.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s great news for those of us who have long preferred the young, spirited, in-your-face Seger of the late &#8217;60s and early &#8217;70s to the more familiar, more mainstream latter-day Seger.</p>
<p>Brian McCollum, writing in the Detroit Free Press, says it&#8217;s <a href="http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091115/ENT04/911150335/1039/ENT04/Seger-opens-the-vault-for-disc-of-70s-rarities-&#38;template=fullarticle" target="_blank">&#8220;a lineup of hard-to-find album cuts.&#8221;</a> For most folks, probably. But not for those of us who are crate diggers, nor for those of us who grew up in the upper Midwest and heard Seger on the radio in those early days. He was well known regionally but hadn&#8217;t made it big nationally.</p>
<p>I have two of the three <a href="http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091115/ENT04/911150335/1039/ENT04/Seger-opens-the-vault-for-disc-of-70s-rarities-&#38;template=fullarticle" target="_blank">&#8220;long unavailable&#8221;</a> LPs from which the new &#8220;Early Seger, Vol. 1&#8243; is drawn. I&#8217;ve seen both at Amazing Records, my local vinyl record shop, in the last month.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.bobseger.com/avoutput/index/#" target="_blank">The 10 cuts on the CD</a> are a mix of tunes from &#8220;Smokin&#8217; O.P.&#8217;s,&#8221; &#8220;Back In &#8216;72&#8243; and &#8220;Seven,&#8221; all fine Detroit rockers released from 1972 to 1974. &#8220;Smokin&#8217; O.P.&#8217;s&#8221; is mostly covers, the others mostly original material. There also are four unreleased tunes, one from 1977 and the others from 1985.</p>
<p>Seger also is apparently reviving a vintage Detroit label. &#8220;Early Seger, Vol. 1&#8243; is being released on Hideout Records, once the home of crunchy Detroit rock, some it put out by Seger.</p>

<p>Seger remains loyal to his roots. At first, &#8220;Early Seger, Vol. 1&#8243; will be sold only at <a href="http://www.meijer.com/custserv/store_locator.jsp" target="_blank">Meijer&#8217;s</a> stores starting Nov. 24. (Meijer&#8217;s is a big grocer and retailer in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.) Then it&#8217;ll be available at <a href="http://www.bobseger.com/" target="_blank">Seger&#8217;s Web site</a> on Nov. 30. There might be a wider release early next year. But know this, too: Seger sells nothing digitally.</p>
<p>So here&#8217;s a sampler of early Seger &#8230; but not from the new CD. Perhaps from future volumes of &#8220;Early Seger,&#8221; which certainly seem possible.</p>

Die befristete Betriebsbewilligung des zweitältesten Atommeilers der Schweiz läuft nämlich am 31. Dezember 2012 aus &#8211; und die BKW als Besitzerin verlangt allen <a href="http://www.beobachter.ch/dossiers/energie/artikel/akw-muehleberg_nun-auch-ein-riss-am-druckbehaelter/">Rissen am Kernmantel und am Reaktordruckbehälter</a> zum Trotz eine unbefristete Betriebsbewilligung. Dagegen gingen 1900 Einsprachen ein, wobei die BKW den Einsprecherinnen und Einsprechern mit dem Segen des Bundesamtes für Energie <a href="http://www.beobachter.ch/natur/umweltpolitik/artikel/akw-muehleberg_keine-risse-in-der-schweigemauer/">die Antwort schuldig bleiben durfte</a>, wie sicher das AKW Mühleberg, das am 6. November 1972 zum ersten Mal Strom lieferte, eigentlich ist.<br />

Dort hat sich eine <a href="http://www.muhleberg-illimite-non.ch/">Allianz aus Linken und Grünen</a> durchgesetzt und erreicht, dass über die Stellungnahme des Kantons zur Betriebsbewilligung in einer Volksabstimmung entschieden wird.<br />

<title><![CDATA[People and Events That Impacted My Life...]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><em>All of us experience some events and share lives that affect us more than others do.  I have had my share of family, community, Philippine and world events that made an impact &#8212; some were causes of celebration, some were tragedies.  Somehow, each of these events and people left a mark in my heart and in my psyche &#8212; marks (sometimes, scars) that helped shape what I am and how I think today.</em></p>

<p>My father was my type of hero.  Strong, silent, unheralded.  He was not a world figure.  He was not known nor admired by anyone but his family.  He was not rich and famous &#8212; just an ordinary man living an ordinary life.  The lessons he taught me were lessons learned through the examples he set &#8212; examples I strive to emulate, but have never been able to live up to.</p>
<p>Mariano &#8220;Menito&#8221; Yan was never blessed with wealth, comfort, or luxury.  We, his sons, did not inherit material wealth or goods.  But his whole life was spent trying to build up a nest egg he could leave behind for us.  He never succeeded, but he left a legacy for me whose value far transcends a peso (or dollar) sign.</p>
<p>I will never forget his zest for life, and the laughter that accompanied it. I will always treasure his commitment to family, a commitment that forced him to leave us behind and work overseas &#8212; Vietnam at the height of the Vietnam war, Malawi in Africa, and finally Oakland, California &#8212; for so many years, just to be able to provide for us.</p>
<p>He showed me how life should be lived, how adversity should be met, how failure should not defeat my spirit.</p>
<p>My heart will forever cry when I remember his words when Rica and I were finally together in the US in July of 1986.  &#8221;Now I can die in peace &#8212; you are here and the family is whole again.&#8221;</p>
<p>For Thanksgiving Day in 1986, he and my Mom drove down to West Covina from their Hayward home to spend my first US Thanksgiving Day with us.  He never made it back to Hayward.</p>
<p>The Sunday after Thanksgiving, he and my Mom were supposed to drive back to Hayward.  He woke up feeling lost and disoriented.  We called 911, and the paramedics took him to Queen of the Valley hospital, where they diagnosed him as having a stroke.  In fact, he had died, but they resuscitated him.</p>
<p>He spent the next six months in a coma that he never awoke from, and died on March 13, 1987.  My lifetime&#8217;s hero was gone, and I have never stopped crying.</p>
<p>Like him, I cry silently and alone.  Like him, I never show the tears of loss.  Like him, I never share the pain and emptiness I feel in my heart.  But they&#8217;re always there&#8230;the pain of loss, the sadness and emptiness, the tears mourning the time we never had together..</p>
<p>To me, in my mind and heart, in my pain and sorrow, my Dad lives&#8230;</p>
<p><em>Wait for me, Dad.  We&#8217;ll laugh together.  Take long walks together. Together we&#8217;ll make up for the time lost.  Share the dreams we never shared, the triumphs we never had, the glorious days of a son reveling in his father&#8217;s embrace, the warmth of your love, the resolve of your strength&#8230;  We&#8217;ll be together, Dad, with no more tears.</em></p>

<p>On September 21, 1972, President Ferdinand Marcos, citing a national security emergency, declared martial law through Presidential Proclamation 1081.</p>
<p>In the beginning &#8212; and for many years &#8212; I believed in what martial law could do, if implemented with fairness, dignity, and integrity.  I believed in the need for discipline, and after so many years of &#8220;democracy,&#8221; I then believed the Filipino has begun to lose all sense of responsibility.  I also believed the Filipino studentry at that time had exceeded its moral limits, and the communist-inspired bombings, rallies and protests actually served the ends the communist element rather than the Filipino people.</p>

<p>I still believe I was right &#8212; that the communist elements were the true benefactors of the lack of Filipino discipline.  What I was wrong to assume was that Marcos was the leader who would inspire and maintain dignity and integrity among the Filipino people.</p>
<p>After two or three years of laudable change immediately after he declared martial law, Marcos &#8212; through indifference, a lust for power, and greed &#8212; allowed, and even fostered, the growth and empowerment of an oligarchy with his cronies as the beneficiaries of his government&#8217;s policies.</p>
<p>Marcos would remain in power for 14 more years, until February 25, 1986.  The people finally took to the streets in a show of national defiance and, using what has now come to be known as People Power, forced Marcos and his family and close circle of supporters to leave Malacanang Palace for exile in the United States.  It was the same pride I felt when Marcos declared martial law that I felt when he was overthrown.  It was a pride that stirred my heart, when he left.</p>
<p>I recognized then the value of the many lives that had been lost among those who fought the degenerative policies of the Marcos administration.  It took the deaths of two men for me to finally understand that no good end will ever be served by the destruction of human rights.</p>

<p>August 21, 1983 marked the actual end of the Marcos regime. Although Marcos remained in power for three more years, the assassination of Benigno &#8220;Ninoy&#8221; Aquino, his most influential critic, sparked what was to become the People Power revolution.  Ninoy was gunned down by Armed Forces soldiers as he alighted from a China Air flight that brought him home from Boston, Massachusetts.  Although the Marcos regime insisted that he had been shot in the head by rogue soldier Rolando Galman, no Filipino believed that neither Marcos nor wife Imelda did not have a hand in his murder.</p>

<p>I will always remember sitting and staring at the TV as they played and replayed the last moments of Ninoy&#8217;s life.  From the moment soldiers boarded the China Air flight to the moment his dead body was ignominiously dragged and dumped into a waiting Armed Forces truck, the coverage was absolutely numbing.</p>
<p>To be sure, it was not truly unexpected, but the reality of what we, as a nation, had collectively feared was too much to absorb in one sitting.  So as one people, we all sat in our homes, watched, and prayed.  Prayed that somehow what we had witnessed was not real.</p>

<p>Ed Jopson was the president of the National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP) during his student days.  He was also my classmate, a dear friend with whom I had spent many childhood memories.</p>
<p>His parents owned Jopson&#8217;s Supermarket, and we would occasionally stay at his house while our parents went out together.  As president of the NUSP, he was more popularly known as &#8220;Edjop.&#8221;  He was also named one of the country&#8217;s &#8220;Ten Outstanding Young Men,&#8221; an award bestowed annually by the Philippine Jaycees &#8212; one of the most prestigious awards in the country at that time.</p>
<p>A career as a labor leader and union organizer led him into notoriety. He was a moderate, and even met with Marcos occasionally.  Then at one meeting Marcos said something that changed Edjop from a moderate oppositionist to an active member of the Communist Party, then headed by Jose Ma. Sison.  At a Malacanang meeting, Edjop continually urged Marcos not to run for another term.  Marcos cut the discussion short by saying &#8220;Who are you to tell me what to do?  You&#8217;re only a grocer&#8217;s son.&#8221;</p>
<p>Eventually captured and tortured, he escaped and headed for the hills of Bataan to continue his struggle among his &#8220;brothers&#8221; in the CPP and NPA.  On September 21, 1982 &#8212; the tenth anniversary of the declaration of martial law, Edjop headed home from visiting NUSP friends.  Late that night, he heard noises, peeked out the window, awoke six other people in the house, then fled.  He was gunned down and killed as he ran&#8230;</p>

<p>August 1990 marked the start of the demolition of the Berlin Wall, the ignominious symbol of the &#8220;Iron Curtain&#8221; that divided the East and West during the Cold War, which lated for decades.  The East German Republic (probably egged on by the Soviet Union), began the construction of the Berlin Wall in August of 1961.  It effectively cut off passage between East and West Berlin, and encircled West Berlin completely.</p>
<p>The Berlin Wall was made up of 96 mi (155 km) of barbed wire barricades and concrete walls with an average height of 11.8 ft (3.60 m). The Wall divided Berlin for 28 years.</p>

<p>In June of 1987, President Reagan stood before the Wall at the Brandenburg Gate and challenged the Soviet Union with those famous words, &#8220;Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.&#8221;  In an unexpected development, a press conference was held on November 9, 1981, where the SED government announced that travel restrictions for East Germans had been lifted.  That night people from East Berlin flooded into the western part of the city and hundreds of thousands celebrated throughout the city.</p>

<p>Soon thereafter, the infamous Wall that hundreds had died trying to cross came down.  The Cold War between the US and USSR thawed,and eventually ended.</p>
<p>On November 9, 2009, Berlin celebrated the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall with a &#8220;Festival of Freedom&#8221;, during which over 1,000 foam domino tiles over 8 feet tall were stacked along the former route of the wall in the city center and toppled.</p>

<p>On November 22, 1963, I was walking home from SLU.  As I turned right on Session Road from Assumption Road, I was surprised by the scattered newspapers fluttering in the wind on Session Road.  I picked one up and as I read the red headline, my heart sank.  &#8220;Kennedy Assassinated.&#8221;</p>
<p>The words rang through my mind and for a brief moment, I went numb.  The next 24 hours were spent watching TV coverage and reading newspaper accounts of the assassination, the swearing in of Vice President Lyndon Johnson, the capture and killing of Lee Harvey Oswald, and the Walter Cronkite announcement of JFK&#8217;s death.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">I did not feel that the world was right, and I silently mourned JFK&#8217;s death.</p>

<p>I did not feel the same deep sadness again until years later, when JFK&#8217;s brother Robert, who was on his way to becoming President of the US, suffered the same fate in a hotel in Los Angeles after winning the California Democratic primary.</p>
<p>The Kennedy legacy &#8212; many called the Kennedy years &#8220;Camelot&#8221; &#8212; ended when youngest brother Ted died in 2009 from cancer of the brain.</p>

<p>But to me, Camelot ended with the death of Jackie Kennedy Onassis, JFK&#8217;s widow, on May 19, 1994.  To my mind, Ted Kennedy took a leftist path that his brothers John and Robert would not have followed.  Today, the Kennedy era is dead&#8230;never to be forgotten, but never again to be relived in all its glory, splendor, hope, inspiration, and faith.</p>

<p>July 21, 1969.  On this day, man first stepped on the moon.  US NASA astronaut Neil Armstrong took that first step, and uttered those now-famous words, &#8220;One small step for man, one giant step for mankind.&#8221;</p>
<p>(Ironically, it was the same day that Ted Kennedy was charged in the drowning death of Mary Jo Kopechne.  <em>See article on lower left of the front page of the newspaper.</em>)</p>
<p>This was the culmination of John Kennedy&#8217;s commitment in his inaugural address:</p>
<p>&#8220;Many years ago the great British explorer George Mallory, who was to die on Mount Everest, was asked why did he want to climb it.  He said, &#8220;Because it is there.&#8221;  Well, space is there, and we&#8217;re going to climb it, and the moon and the planets are there, and new hopes for knowledge and peace are there.  And, therefore, as we set sail we ask God&#8217;s blessing on the most hazardous and dangerous and greatest adventure on which man has ever embarked.&#8221;  Within ten years, as JFK had promised, man was on the moon.</p>
