The event featured a battle of the buds where 14 florists competed with their centerpieces for a grand prize of a spread in Ceremony magazine, the centerpieces were amazing!

But back to the point of this blog though… wedding cake.

As we walked around checking everything out my attention was captured by this beautiful cake…. the display was by the French Gourmet, which I have said before is one of my very favorite caterers in San Diego, their food is always spectacular and 3 steps above! Anyway… the cake…..

Why I LOVE this cake is that it is decorated in photos! Think engagement session photos! How truly unique would this be if we did your engagement session with images in Black and White or Sepia and then they were featured on this cake!

I love it when we go to vendor events! It’s great to see what is new in our industry and also so much fun to mingle with other wedding vendor friends!

Wish Upon a Wedding is a great new organization coming to San Diego and we are excited to be donating some of our photography services to them in the near future.

Today team Shadowcatcher headed out to Rancho Santa Fe for the wedding of Sumi and Alex! We were very excited to be working with Sumi and Alex on their wedding day. We met Sumi a few years ago when we did a wedding at Oceanview Villas in San Diego. Sumi, who is Sumi of the amazing bakery Sumis Oven, was delivering a cake to the wedding. We ran into eachother at Bridal shows every now and then after that and were thrilled when Sumi and her then Fiance Aex chose us as the photographers for their wedding day.

Sumi and Alex chose the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club for their wedding venue. Everything looked absolutely  stunning! Sumi made the centerpieces herself which were made of chocolate!

Lori and I  started with pictures of Sumi and her family and Bridal party at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe while Skip was able to get in some shots of Alex and his family and groomsmen back at the wedding venue.

I couldn’t wait to see what Sumi would do for her own wedding cake! When you do hundreds of cakes for brides and grooms what do you do for yourself? This cake was beautiful! It matched the centerpieces and so very much reflected Sumi and Alexs’ style! The cake itself was mango and also red velvet…. yummmmmmmmm! ;o)

With one of the largest bridal parties in Shadowcatcher History,  high school sweethearts Brittany and Alderez tied the know this weekend at beautiful Los Willows

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect, and we were totally up for the big challenge of Brittany and Alderez’ large bridal party….. 12 Birdesmaids, and 14 groomsmen! From Brittanys entrance in a beautiful horse and carriage to that last dance, this day was filled with fun and beautiful memories.

Larissa and Alan chose this date for their destination wedding at Los Willows for one very special reason.. it was the Anniversary of their first date! Now you would think a mid week wedding with under 50 people would be a little low key…. not this one! Wow… this party was ON FIRE!  DJ Alex from Pro Sound Dj’s had this crowd on the dance floor all night, not to mention had them doing a conga all around the Los Willows property. We had a fabulous time with all of Larissa and Alan’s family and friends and captured some amazing shots for them!

Today Skip, Cindy and I had the great pleasure of working with Lindsay and Scott on their wedding day.

Their wedding was held at The Hilton Garden Inn in Carlsbad, the florals were done by Valley Center Florist. We got there early enough to get some great getting ready shots with Lindsay and her girls, and stayed till the last dance. It was a log day but filled with some beautiful memories.. and images!

Well here we are again about 2 years later with one of our favorite wedding couples ever. Jenni & Bobby Flood! This time with a new addition.. Jordan!

Our story with Jenni and Bobby began in March of 2009 on their engagement session…

Fast forward a bit to their wedding in May of 2009….

When someone in our industry ties the knot it is always super special! We were so delighted and honored that Sumi and Alex choose us as the photographers for their big day! After a quick little session in the studio this morning with baby Chloe, Skip and I packed up all our gear and headed down to San Diego to spend the day with Cara and James, and our Team Cara” stylists that consisted of  Megan Mc Daniel who did all of the makeup, and Maria, who did all of the hairstyles for Cara (619-237-4413).

Cara and James have been married for about one year but came to us because they wanted a session that was all about them after the wedding, something more relaxed and with much more time than you would have on your wedding day.

We started with Cara in her wedding dress, then switched to two different outfits for a park in Mission Valley, then made our way to Spanich Village, and finished the day at.. one of my all time favorite spots, the Hardrock Hotel. Cara rocked 4 different looks during the day and her talented team of stylists gave us a fresh new hair and makeup look perfect for each look!

On Friday Skip and I hit the road for our first road-trip wedding of the year to Santa Barbara! We had always wanted to spend some time in Santa Barbara and were thrilled when Monique contacted us to do their wedding at the historic courthouse. Monique is a makeup artist and we first met her on New Years Eve when we shot Kasey and Malcolm’s wedding at Los Willows.

The courthouse in Santa Barbara is filled with history and some pretty amazing photo spots! We arrived early Friday and scouted things out and worked together to plan our shots for the wedding day.

After a long week of  Bridal Shows, Studio Events, Fashion Shows and Studio Sessions, it was GREAT to get out to beautiful Coronado to work with Curtis and Rose on their engagement images! The day was cool and overcast but honestly, I don’t think anyone noticed! We had a really fun working with this amazing couple from Yuma that are getting married here in Coronado this summer!

I LOVE LOVE how  comfortable and natural these two are together… truly a match made in heaven!

While it had all the feel of a wedding, it was actually a Vow Renewal like no other!

We were out at the beautiful Los Willows venue today for the surprise vow renewal of retired pitching Star Russ Ortiz, and his wife Stacy.

This entire day was planned as a surprise for Stacy, she had no idea about any of this!

Russ pulled all of this off with the help of their good friend Shari and the amazing Los Willows staff.. . Unbelievable! And can you say

R O M A N T I C!  …. WOW!

Here are some details of the day with pictures….

Stacy arrived after  a morning of massage, Mani’s and Pedi’s  with just a bit of an idea of what was to follow, all she knew at this point was that Russ had asked her again to be his wife, and that something special was in the works….

Once in the Brides room, Stacy had her choice of 3 different dresses to wear for the occasion, all with carefully chosen matching shoes. Which would you pick? I know I had my favorite already in mind ;o)

With no idea of what was next, Stacy was secretly escorted out of the Brides getting ready room and taken by Rolls Royce to the boat house where she then made her way across the lake to the ceremony where Russ was waiting for her.

They made their way down the aisle to be reunited again by… wait… yet another HUGE surprise….. the pastor who married them almost 15 years ago!

After the ceremony Stacy had a chance to turn around and be surprised once again by all of people who came to this amazing surprise event!

The details and decor here today were stunning! So much planning and hard work went into this day… we don’t know how they did it! But between the staff at Los Willows, the amazing vendors they choose and I am sure with endless hours from Russ and Shari, this was a 5 star event to remember.

This day had so many elements of surprise, I could spend all day blogging about this! We were only hired for 2 hours to cover the ceremony, so we didn’t see it all, but did hear rumor that the reception had MANY more surprises. One of them being a surprise performance by Stacy’s favorite band.. Switchfoot!

Stacy and Russ, your story and special day has so moved us both. Russ… is there an MVP trophy for hubby of the year? We all think  that should grace your mantel….. WOW!

We are very honored to have been  a part of this great surprise, and love that we had the opportunity to capture all of these wonderful memories for you!

Today Skip and I had the pleasure of working with the amazingly wonderful ladies of Eventity Eventity is an event planing service in San Diego that puts on some outstanding events.

Eventity needed some new shots for their website and we were very  happy to help fulfill that wish! Skip and I were over the top excited that they chose one of our suggestions, Belmont Park, for the location for the session. We have been dying to do this spot for an engagement session, but till now, didn’t have any takers on this concept. We had a great time working with these wonderful ladies, and a super fun shoot!

First of all… wow… it has been a really long time since I blogged! We seemed to have gotten all caught up in our new pup Cooper coming to live with us…. and then… WHAM…. Skip and I got hit with the flu of the century! Now we NEVER get sick, I think it had been over 2 1/2 years but this one snuck up on us and hit hard! Knowing we had Hillary and Marks wedding coming up, we cancelled all of our appointments for the week and just couched it for 6 days eating as much chicken soup as we could and getting plenty of rest. It kind of worked… we loaded up on cough meds and off we went ;o) Our assistant Veronica got hit with this after we did so she was out for the day, but our newest assistant Cody was able to jump right in and helped all throughout the day. This was Cody’s first wedding with us and we were both very happy with how well he jumped right in and handled everyting we threw at him so easily.

There had been a little tension all week for everyone on what the weather was going to bring this day…. but mother nature was on our sides once again and blessed this day with beautiful sunny skies! It was a bit chilly… but a gorgeous day!

We started our day with our Groom Mark over at the Marriott, and then hopped over to the Sheraton for some getting ready with Hillary. From there we all headed off to  Persidio Park where Hillary and Mark saw each other for the first time, and we got in some great shots with them, their families and the bridal party. From there it was over to the Admiral Kidd club for a beautiful ceremony!

28 days of planning, construction, shopping and stress… and then finally, we were there! It sounds kind of like Christmas… right? Bridal Bazaar often feels just like that to me ;o) and then before you know it…poof… it’s over!

We had an amazing time, and met sooo many great couples! We hope to see all of you in the studio soon so we can talk more with you and see how we can make those wedding dreams of yours  a reality through our photography!

The January 30th Bridal Bazaar at the San Dieego Convention Center Halls G&H from 10am to 4pm.

Skip and I made our way downtown this morning for a fun engagement session with Bianca and George. George is a professional club DJ, so he got us hooked up for this session at Thin/Onyx in the Gaslamp. We spent a fun hour shooting in the club, which BTW… is SOOOO different after hours, then went to a cute little park by the convention center for some outdorsey pics.

In October our associate team took a bit of a setback when one of our star players, Theresia went off to London to finish her Masters in Photography. We think we may have found someone to fill her shoes.. but more about that next week ;o)  The other member of our Associate team Veronica has been with us for a year and a half and has been dazzling us ever since! Last year we got our first booking for our Associate team, and this Saturday we headed out to Petco Park with Veronica so she could meet with the teams first couple, Tuesday and Matt for their engagement session.

Tuesday and Matt are he sweetest couple ever and we all had a great time with them at Petco Park!

Skip and I did a little shooting but most of the credit for this session and blog go to Veronica.

From now on you may see some different credits on the blog, images shot by our associate team will be noted with their names.

Congratulations to Tuesday and Matt and here you go Veronica… your first leading role on the Shdowcatcher Blog!

I had been looking forward to Ashlea and James’ wedding from the minute they walked in our studio to interview us as their wedding photographers! From the start I loved the chemistry between these two and then when I found out Ashlea and I went to the same High School in a small town in Illinois, well that put me over the top! What a coincidence was that?

The day was just absolutely beautiful! Theresia and I started with the girls at the Navy Lodge, while Skip went over to meet the guys at the 19th hole. and then we all met up at Breakers Beach for a beautiful beachy ceremony. After the ceremony all of the guests were treated to a tour of San Diego on Trolleys provided by the newlyweds. The guests had a great time touring the city while the 3 of us took off in the Bridal Trolley with Ashlea, James and the Bridal party!

 One of our stops was a very important one.. the Nimitz. Ashlea and James met and fell in love  on the ship! And Ashlea was just overseas on the ship and only arrived home a couple of weeks before the wedding!

We had the best time working with Ashlea and James.. yet another great reminder of how much we love our jobs ;o) When I sorted through the images this morning picking my favorites for the blog I had almost 70.. an all time record for me! From those 70 I narrowed it down a bit.. and here are my top 34…..
