Dhoni’s honesty with Tendulkar secured his position as captain

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is no stranger to having every move of his closely watched and analysed by the media, but in a rare moment of being away from prying eyes, Dhoni revealed that his road to becoming captain of his country was all due to securing the vote of veteran batsman Sachin Tendulkar, which he managed to accomplish through complete honesty.

Dhoni recalls how he and Tendulkar used to disagree on numerous occasions, but believes that it was through his forthrightness that Tendulkar backed him to excel as leader of the national team.

“On the field, I always give my honest inputs about team strategy,” Dhoni said. “Tendulkar and I used to discuss team strategy on the field. If I was convinced [about something], I would even disagree with him and it happened quite often.

“I think my honesty has paid dividends when he recommended me for captaincy. He might [have been] thinking that I had learnt in quick time [about] different aspects of the game and team strategy. Even if I was not made the captain, it was a huge thing that Tendulkar had recommended my name for captaincy.”

Dhoni replaced former India batsman Rahul Dravid as captain after the side’s tour of England in 2007 and immediately made a huge impact, leading the team to victory at the 2007 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20.

Dhoni also took over the Test captaincy from leg-spinner Anil Kumble during the fourth Test against Australia at Nagpur in 2008.

During the recent series against Australia, Dhoni surpassed Sourav Ganguly as India’s most successful captain with 23 wins from 46 Tests.

The Indian captain also took some time to reminisce about his first run-in with Tendulkar.

“I think that was in a Duleep Trophy match in Pune in 2000-01 or 2001-02 season,” Dhoni said. “I was in East Zone squad and was carrying drinks. Tendulkar made 199 in that match and he was batting when I went onto the field to serve drinks to my team-mates in the drinks break.

“Suddenly, he asked me, ‘Can I have a drink also?’ That was my first meeting with Tendulkar, my idol. I did not speak a word to him and ended up serving a drink to him.”

Spoiler Warning: Although we’ll try our hardest to not give away the ending in these short reviews, we can’t guarantee we won’t give anything away at all!

This week’s movie is the little, indie-thriller straight from Ireland ‘The Escapist‘.

Co-written and directed by Rupert Wyatt (who some may remember the director of Rise of the Planet of the Apes), the film has two, intersecting story-lines going at the same time. On one end, we have the story of a convict with a life-sentence named Frank Perry (played with a shocking amount of sensitivity by Brian Cox) who plans on escaping from the prison he’s currently shackled in, just so that he can meet his drug-addled daughter on the other side.

Whereas, on the other side of the movie, we have the story about the actual escape plan that Perry, as well as the fellow inmates (played by Joseph Fiennes, Seu Jorge, Dominic Cooper, and Liam Cunningham).

Having a movie where one part of it is fast, quick, and tense, whereas the other one is all about developing characters and being a “drama”, could kill any movie if it doesn’t have the right sense of direction and placement, but Wyatt knows what he’s doing. Rather than telling us all that we need to know about these guys’ escape plan, we only see what we should, thinking that everything might just go according to plan.

However, with any plan, usually things do go awry and that’s what happens here. Through the building of drama and suspense, we feel for all of these characters, regardless of what it was that they did to have them end up in the slammer. Especially Cox, who, much to my surprise, was very good at playing this small, short, and sweet guy that has come to terms with the crime that he has committed, as well as not being able to see the outside world. But yet, he still dreams of one day, just one day, meeting his daughter on the other side and having everything be all peaches and creams.

Whether or not the reuniting of the two actually occurs, will be totally left up for you, the viewer, to see. What I can tell you is that what does happen will grip you, but also touch in a dramatic-way, something I wasn’t expecting from this movie.

Wyatt has surely made a name for himself re-viving a franchise that most people thought was dead in the water (thanks Tim Burton!!!), but I’ll never forget him for this movie and in showing me that you can get a bit more of something out of the tired-genre of prison movies. Especially ones where there are inmates that are trying to escape.

So, if you want to see further confirmation on why Wyatt was a perfect choice for the Apes franchise, definitely give the Escapist a look. It’s fun, tense, dramatic, a tad emotional, well-acted, and even has a nice supporting performance from Damian Lewis, pre-Homeland days.

First and foremost, we were told that the Uummannaq sunglasses were made to resemble a special person’s eyes and the profits of the sales would benefit the Children’s Home in Uummannaq.

We were very happy to have Ap Verheggen answer a couple of our questions. Here the transcript of Mr. Verheggen’s letter, where he personally explains more details about the development and story behind the Uummannaq model:

Finland/Czech Republic, 2008

The war between Finland and Russia is over, leaving the nations to decide what is to be the border between the eastern empire and Scandinavia. The king of Sweden and Czar of Russia each send delegates to work together as a team, travelling northwards from the battlefield to the sea in order to decide the exact boundary. Along the way, two of the Finnish members of the party engage in a nasty altercation with an innkeeper and his daughter which results in them being followed by a spooky presence on the remainder of their journey. When they reach a mysterious village in the middle of a swampland that was never before charted on any known map, they start to notice that things are no longer in the realm of “normal”. The world they enter, a place where the ancient pagan beliefs of the land still rule and affect fate, seems to be strangely concentrated around a sauna that may be the reason why the village’s Orthodox priests disappeared long ago. Despite gorgeous photography and a wonderful sense of atmosphere, the story and its motives are far too obscure to make this a satisfying film after its first two thirds. It feels like the director ran out of ideas and decided to run on visual steam, leaving the audience confused and unsatisfied and, thanks to some very bland and thinly written characters, completely uninterested in searching out any explanations.

Crianças? Longe de mim.

 Não sei é todo mundo, mas eu simplesmente não sou fã de crianças. Acho algumas (poucas), muito bonitinhas. Mas ainda assim, de longe. Do tipo casal feliz passando na rua e eu falo “que coisa fofa” e quando eu termino minha frase, eles já estão dobrando a esquina e sumindo.

Mas sei lá, criança não me enche os olhos. Ainda mais quando são má educadas. Nada me irrita mais do que ouvir uma criança fazendo pirraça, ou chorando pra conseguir o que quer. Nessas horas a minha vontade é de pegar a criança e socar ela na parede até parar de respirar. Ou eu posso usar o estilo Nardoni, que é bem mais prático, jogar pela janela. Voa Isabela .

As vezes eu fico pensando em ter filhos, mas ai eu olho a minha mãe com o meu irmão, e algumas outras crianças por ai. E cheguei a uma conclusão: no dia que eu vender minha sanidade e ter uma criança, vou educar usando o pulso. Não quero criança mal criada que chora pelo que quer, que fica catando as coisas dos outros, ou ainda por cima, sujas. Por que crianças em 99% são melequentas? Dá nojo de ver. Elas chegam bonitinhas, você pisca, e tem sujeira até onde Deus dúvida e isso provavelmente deve ser um reflexo de seus pais, mas não vamos falar deles por aqui

Uma última apelação: Que eu seja rica o suficiente pra caso venha a ter filhos, tenha dinheiro pra enviá-los para um colégio interno.

Uma frase já que eu não conseguir formular um bom post : Criança é igual cachorro e irmão. Bom é o dos outros. Porque ver todos os dias na sua casa é um verdadeiro inferno.

Точно Анна как характер из филме Басик Инстинкт, настоящий роковая женщина - порочный, безжалостный, социопата убийцу  - ну хуже чем либо Филме можеть показать. Анна Зюзина разрушила Барри Принг из скоростной машина и просто думала что это трансакция. Трансакция которы будет Барри просто удалит из это мире и давать Анна Зюзина болшье чем 1.5 миллион долларов.

Последствих – это не просто убийство британского парень который не сделал ничего плохой, это было тяжкое преступление против страные Анна Зюзина – Украина. Я говорил с Украинскые человеком, которые увидели Барри Принга на его последные моментки – счастливые и улыбающиеся один момент, просто пульпа следующий. После 5 лет, они еще в травма. И еще есть Татяна (выше), ее бывшая лучшая подруга которая участвовала хитроумный дела в 20-х лет когда это все была забавные. Татяна не знала что Анна всегда приходила ниже и ниже – ближе к убийство все време. Сейчас Татяна воспитатся сын и нужно все им сказать что его мама была близок к убийца. Это также бывшие парень которы только хотел легко отношения и после полицаи ему общался, узнал что она делала. Он еще чувствуют себе грязный поэтому такой отношения был с девушка которая убила ее муж только паре месяцев прежде. Был надо 50 звонков и многое назначение был аннулировать до встречаться, поэтому он еще боится что его новые девушка будет узнать что он делал. Но он ничего плохой делал – он был просто соблазнен и использовала от Зюзина. Из его она просто хотела секс.

От Барри Принг Анна Зюзина выяснила что единственный способ схватит что Барри работил все его жизнь зарабатывать был взять его жизнь. Барри из хорошые семье а от молодые лет он показал что на его есть интеллект и амбице – в Лондон но развивал карьера до уровен которы позволить он жить удобные жизнь и собственность. Барри жил в квартире которые ценить около 1.5 миллион долларов но деньги не очень важное для Барри. Он был постояные парень, надежный, всегда готов помогает его дружи и семье. В его 40-х лет он решил что это был време начать его семье чтоб доля его жизнь с жена и дети. Он выбрал украине потому что он слышал что в Украинне можеть познакомится девушка которая быть с старше парень –  нормалные ситуаци, и которая хочет быть хорошо жена и мама. Но после момень он выбрал Анна Зюзина Барри был без шансов. Анна Зюзина так расчета и манипулятивных она всю жизнь контролировать парни чтоб делать точно что она хочет.

Я очень уважаю как Барри Принг уехал на Киеве где многое иностранци парни иду дикой и он остался как хорошо джентльмен и муж. Последные официант которая служил Барри сказала что он как действительно Английский джентльмен.

Когда Барри познакомился Анна это был ничего о Анна на интернет – просто социальные сети. Ну даже с все история что она убила Барри Принг и мое книга, блог и видеох она удалось ставить Иван Листер в ее паутину обмана. И как ее намереные за Иван? У Анна уже есть квартиру, машина и конечно тепер она беременные, если она реально хочет ребенок – можно подумать!. Ну она хочет еще жить в Англий, наслаждать ее роскошной жизни и манипулировать медия поэтому у она есть маленького ребенка. Шон Принг, Брат Барри, выступал больше чем 5 лет за правосудие для Барри. Тепер это тоже жизнь Иван Листер, его сыновья, жизнь как Анна Зюзина разрушенный. Это жизнь нерожденного ребенка. Анна Зюзина убийца, не мать.

Иван Листер хочет быть слепой на что Анна cделала. Фактически она сказала ему это был ее брат которы убил Барри. Нето брат у Анна. Барри Принг приехал на Украине чтоб встречаться его жена для праздник. Он возврашался на Англий неделя поже в 3 часть. Это был за экс-проститут Анна Зюзина начать ее карьеру в убийство для деньги.

Анна Зюзина -или Джулианна Мюр как ты сам называешь- экс-проститутка, тепер опасно, хладнокровный убийца.

By now, you should have read Stephen Wright’s excellent Daily Mail article with new photos of Anna Ziuzina. Finding the murderer Anna Ziuzina has been a long process, starting thousands of miles away in Ukraine several months ago for my book, Ukraine – Men, women, sex, murder. It’s ironic that she’s calling herself Julianna Moore now, as in the actress.

Anna Ziuzina is straight out of a film. But not any of Moore’s films – she’s Basic Instinct, a real-life femme fatale, worse than film could ever show. Anna Ziuzina is a sociopathic, ruthless, cold-blooded killer. She had her husband Barry Pring smashed into pieces by a speeding car and simply thought of everything as a transaction. A transaction which would remove Barry Pring from the equation and give her over a million pounds.

Anna Ziuzina murdered Barry Pring in Ukraine then came here to the UK, and has claimed over £100,000 in legal aid to fight for his estate and mount a campaign against Barry’s family, inflicting enormous pain particularly on Barry’s elderly parents Irene and Basil. It’s also her new boyfriend Ivan Lister (above), and his sons. Ivan is a decent bloke currently living in a state of willful ignorance to what his girlfriend has done. She’s blamed it on her brother. But Anna Ziuzina has no brother. And Ivan’s life is in danger. Several months ago, Anna Ziuzina attempted to poison him, causing huge worry for his ex-wife and sons. But so deep in is Ivan, he forgave Anna Ziuzina.

The consequences are not just the murder of a British man who had never done anything wrong, I spoke to people, Ukrainians, who had seen Barry Pring, happy and smiling one moment reduced to a pulp in the next moment. Five years on, they are still traumatised by that. There’s Tatiana (above), her former best friend who was along with her in their roaring 20s when Anna’s schemes all seemed like a bit of fun. She didn’t realise Anna was headed down to murder all the time. Now raising a son and having to tell him about how his mother’s best friend was a killer. The ex-boyfriend who simply wanted a bit of the other. Then, taken in and questioned by police, realising who she was and what she did. Now, five years on still with that tainted feeling of having shared the body of one who had killed her husband just a couple of months before. This guy took about 50 phone calls and umpteen cancelled meetings to get, living in fear as he does that his new girlfriend will find out what he once did. Yet, he did nothing wrong, he was lured in and used by Anna Ziuzina. From him, she simply wanted sex.

From Barry Pring, Anna Ziuzina figured the only way to get to what he had worked for all his life, was to take that life. Barry Pring came from a good family down in Devon. From an early age Barry had shown intellectual promise and in London he built up his career to a point which allowed him to live a comfortable life including several properties. Yet, though materially wealthy, living in the apartment complex above in an apartment worth around £1 million today, money was never what was most important to Barry. To his tenants he was a good landlord, to his friends a kind, reliable guy always ready with a joke or support as required. In his 40s and deciding it was time to start his own family, Barry had been drawn to the promises of traditional values and the lack of age barrier in Ukraine meaning he could be a father and share what he had made of his life with his children. But the reality is that after he clicked on Anna Ziuzina’s profile, with her promising to be a loving wife and wannabe mother, he never stood a chance. Anna Ziuzina is so calculating and manipulative she has always been able to control men, have them just where she wants them.

When Barry met Anna Ziuzina there was nothing about her on the internet, apart from social networking, yet even with stories, blogs and videos easily findable through a google search, Anna Ziuzina has been able to wrap her new man, Ivan Lister, in her own web of deceit and malintent. And what are Anna’s intentions for Ivan? Well, she’s got an apartment, a car, and now, of course, she’s pregnant. Whether Anna Ziuzina wants a child is debatable. What she wants is to stay in Britain, keep on enjoying a luxury life in North London here, and be able to extract sympathy from the media due to either pregnancy or having a young child. Barry’s brother Shaughan Pring has kept up a campaign for five years to bring Anna Ziuzina to justice. What is at stake is more than justice for Barry Pring. It’s the lives of the family of Ivan Lister, lives which Anna Ziuzina has torn apart. It’s the life of an unborn child to whom Anna Ziuzina, a murderer, is not a fit mother.

Barry Pring headed over to Ukraine to meet his wife for what he thought was an anniversary celebration. He returned to the UK one week later, in 3 parts. That was, for ex-prostitute Anna Ziuzina, the start of her new career in murder for money.

I am sure many of you have heard about the finding of 3 kidnapped girls (now women) in Cleveland, OH a couple weeks ago. I personally just read through the news again as it rose as a discussion topic in my family tonight. My very first response after reading all the news was, “My goodness, how could he do that to other human beings? Didn’t he have a heart? (and so on…)” In the midst of my thought process, I was reminded of a verse I read this morning – “Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?” (Matthew 7:3 ESV).

As humans, we are often so quick to judge. We really enjoy gossips, drama, tragedies, scandals, and talks about others’ shortfall. Newspapers love it when there are “world-shattering” incidents and tragedies like the above. Everyone loves hot topics! Who doesn’t?

Well, one thing I realized today is that often times we fail to see things beyond the mistakes and tragedies. Have we ever considered the circumstances behind the problem? What kind of abuse or trauma did a kidnapper or rapist experience during his/her childhood? Have we considered all the struggle that they went through growing up? Did we ever think about how they possibly loathe themselves, or how hard they have to handle the anger and bitterness in their heart?

I am not saying that in this case, the kidnapper in OH is not guilty and that he has excuses to do what he did. I am not suggesting that the law should not punish criminals for what they did. Laws and policies are put in place to remind people of their responsibility to stay humane and considerate to others. I am just inviting us to take a step back before we judge.

Let us not be so easy to judge. We would never know what’s going on in the person life when they are committing the sin. We didn’t experience what’s going on in their mind. We didn’t endure the struggle they are facing. It is easy to point and talk when we are standing at the other side of the fence. But have we considered the ground that they are standing? If we were in their position, would we able to do better than them? Are we sure we would not do what they did, or even worse?

This whole thing made me realize another point, related to my previous post about God’s love. This is a glimpse of God’s own heart. Why God loves us, no matter who we are or what we did or didn’t do. He sees things beyond how we, humans, see things. He does not judge by the outer look of a sin or mistake. He knows and He understands, as He is the one that formed the hearts of all (Psalm 33:15 NIV). Instead, He has compassion for these people. His heart breaks, not because of what they did, but what they have gone through. All the wrongs in this world which led them into their “mistakes”. Ps. Prince once said, “Remember, these people were once young, innocent boys and girls.” Yes, the trouble of the world has made people gone astray and lost.

So realizing all of these, what do we do? For me, I have made two little promises to myself.

First, to not judge people so quickly. No matter how horrible one’s mistake is, whether it’s a crime or not. Indeed, everyone’s heart was once pure and innocent. God never created babies with potentials to murder, rape, kill, rob, shoot, cheat, lie, and so on. We also would not know how it feels to be in their shoes. So we better not judge and point fingers.

And second, to have compassion for these people. This is why Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Mark 2:17 NIV). We are called to have compassion for the lost and somehow show them how much God loves them. What they truly need is not judges and finger-pointers. They need those who have compassion and try to see them beyond what the world sees.

Now, let me ask you some questions… Have we ever felt burdened by this love? Does this so-called love free us from any worry or insecurity? Do we always treat the one we love the way we treat ourselves? Have we been putting those we love higher than ourselves? Can we always give freely to the people or things we love? Are we always forgiving? Do we care so much to the ones we love that we would do just about anything? “Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].” (1 Corinthians 13:7 AMP). Wow, that is a very high expectation of love.

Yes, a lot of us indeed have loved, but not the way He loves us. This year I have been reminded a lot that God is the ultimate lover. Sounds cheesy and “out there”? That’s what I felt, too. Until I learned the depiction of Him and His love to us in the book of Song of Songs, from a sermon by Ps. Joseph Prince (April 2013):

Chapter 1 – The shepherd and his flock
Chapter 2 – King and his table
Chapter 3 – The merchant man and his fragrance
Chapter 4 – The gardener and his garden
Chapter 5 – Bridegroom and his bride
Chapter 6 – The lover and his beloved
Chapter 7 – The Lord for the vineyard

I am not a Bible expert by any means. But I can interpret the love depicted above by putting myself in the figures’ shoes. The one thing that amazed me is that God indeed loves us THAT much. It is beyond the love of a leader, owner, caregiver, spouse, lover, creator. His love is unlimited, unconditional, abundant, freeing, relieving, undemanding, nurturing.

There are days when I feel I am unworthy to receive love from another (person), whether it is because of my wrong doings, shortcomings, insecurity, fear, or disappointment. Those days made me realize that God’s love is indeed beyond human’s capability to love. His compassion to us is unconditional. Regardless of what we have or have not done, He loves us. Period. “Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.” (Joel 2:13b NLT).

He does not see or judge who we are, and whether we deserve a place in His heart or not. His love is grace. It is unmerited. “The Lord looks from heaven, He beholds all the sons of men; From His dwelling place He looks [intently] upon all the inhabitants of the earth— He Who fashions the hearts of them all, Who considers all their doings.” (Psalm 33:13-15 AMP).

Today, I want to challenge you to take a moment. Maybe lock yourself in your bedroom, step away into the woods or lakeside, worship through some songs, or even write your journal. Reflect on your encounter with Him in your life journey so far. Have we acknowledged and realized the depth of His love for us? Have we realized that God loves us THAT much? “For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.” (Psalm 108:4 NIV).

After the U.S. succumbs to a devastating economic collapse in 2012, federal penitentiaries are privatized and run by greedy corporations. The bosses now make money off their prisoners by having them participate in highly dangerous car races that fight to the death, a modern gladiatorial spectator sport that proves to be highly lucrative. After waking up next to his dead wife, Jason Statham is accused of stabbing her, sent to jail and recruited by the ice-hearted warden (Joan Allen) to take over for the ace driver and fan favourite who died in the last big match. Our hero is reluctant except for one giant carrot dangling in front of him; winning this race might mean being freed from prison, and possibly clearing his name. Formualaic, tired and messy, this remake of the 1975 cult favourite starring Sylvester Stallone and David Carradine is uninspired and idiotic; any action film that feels the need to start with a written introduction to its ever-so-deeply plotted narrative is bound to be worthy of the dungheap, a prediction that Death Race proves right once you get into the trashy dialogue and hackneyed stock characters that abound everywhere. Nossa Senhora do Rosário

Não sei porque mas, assim que me mudei pra Volta Redonda, eu queria estudar num colégio chamado Rosário. Devo ter visto alguma propaganda, ou qualquer merda assim, porque afinal ele é um coléginho para a elite, sem contar que é de freiras, em outras palavras: nada atraente.  Mas eu queria.

Sábado, eu finalmente o conheci, para a minha decepção. Eu sempre o imaginei como um lugar legal, grande, antigo, uma arquitetura tradicional e qualquer outra frescura. Mas cheguei lá, é um colégio verde sem graça, com janelas de vidro sem graças. Enfim, tudo nada a ver ao colégio que eu idealizei.

Ta que era a festa junina deles quando eu fui, e a faixa etária daquela merda era de 5 a 17 anos, jamais séria algo bom de se ver. Mas ainda assim, isso acabou com a minha imagem de escola legal.

Voltando a festa junina. Nunca gostei de festa juninas, ficar usando roupa cafona,  pulando cobra e se cobrindo da chuva nunca foi pra mim. Gostava da comida: paçoca, pé-de-moleque, cocada e outras porcarias. Fora a pescaria e tiro ao alvo. E na festa do Rosário tinha tudo isso de uma forma bem precária, o que foi estranho já que é uma escola tão prestigiada. Mas enfim, fora algumas meninas vestidas de caipira, a festa estava um inferno.

Então nós: eu, Rayana, Mário, Bárbara e Iguinho, decidimos animar a festa, pelo menos pro nosso lado. Começamos a dar mole pra toda e qualquer pessoa que passasse por nós. De crianças de 3 anos de idade à casal de velhinhos.
Era tipo assim, passava um menino por onde estávamos sentados e a gente começava “hey, psiu”, “ô gostoso”, “pausudo, vem cá..”. E se a pobre e inocente vítima viesse, nós o convidaríamos para um sexo grupal a quatro.

O problema foi, depois de um tempo algumas pessoas começaram a acreditar na nossa brincadeira. Como o caso do playboy que tirou a camisa pra gente “aprovar a mercadoria”, e o Mário aproveitou e ficou passando a mão no p** dele, até o cara perceber (demorou uns 10min), e falar “não cara, você não.”. Esse infeliz ai, queria comer até o Mário!!!. Além de tentar nos levar pro carro dele. Então, depois desse susto, nós mudamos nossa brincadeira. Agora nós queríamos fazer um filme pornô.

E mais uma vez, trocentas pessoas caiam na brincadeira. Todo mundo topava comer o Igor e oMario, porque afinal eram 3 mulheres e dois homens, né? Mas ai a gente explicava: Rayana era adiretora, Bárbara a roteirista, e eu a câmera. Os atores eram só o Igor e o Mário. E mais uma vez todo mundo ia embora. Nós zoamos tanto, que ganhamos até plateia. Tinha uns dois grupos de amigos sentados em volta assistindo a gente.

Ai, pra melhorar a brincadeira, porque afinal estava ficando manjada. Nós conseguimos uma camisinha. Agora a idéia era procurar voluntários para nos ensinar a colocar com a boca. Só que, conseguimos pegar apenas uma pessoa. Um playboy babaca.

Ai depois de uns 5 minutos o garoto entendeu e saiu puto dali, e quando estava em uma distância segura, ele fez aquele gesto que todo menino babaca adora fazer, o famoso “pega aqui”. Mas, quando ele fez isso, ai que a gente se animou mesmo e começamos a gritar “isso, isso mesmo que a gente quer. Agora vem aqui pra gente pegar..” E o garoto por ser babaca. Chamou os amigos pra bater na gente, mas como os amigos perceberam que ele era babaca, nem deram bola.

Fora nossas brincadeiras geniais, nós também destruímos casais. Víamos um casal ficando em algum canto, então corríamos pra frente do casal e ficávamos conversando na frente deles. Numa dessas, pegamos uma menina que devia ter uns 17/18, pegando um garotinho (lindo), que devia ter uns 10 anos no máximo. O menino ficou tão assustado que saiu correndo.

E como pude esquecer o caso dos playsons querendo nos convidar para curtir um “hai fai” como eles mesmo disseram, e depois “Mackenzie”, pra finalmente entendermos que ele queria era fumar maconha. Mas, somos babacas mas não somos idiotas, então eles foram sozinhos fumar.

A única parte desagradável da festa, foi reencontrar a menina chata da festa de aniversário da Vicky.  Se algum dia você ler isso menina-chata-que-paga-pau-pra-São-Paulo-que-agora-esta-com-cabelo-verde-e-fala-cuspindo-e-foi-no-aniversário-da-Vicky-ano-passado: Vai tomar no cú! Além de ser ridícula, você ainda roubou nossa camisinha. Mal comida! Só porque ninguém tava dando a mínima pra você.

After listening to Farmers Market’s 2008 release on Ipecac, Surfin’ USSR, I went over to read their Ipecac bio. It started about as I expected.

The music of Farmers Market is a mixture of Bulgarian folk music, jazz standards, popular music and humor.

But then the next sentence kind of floored me.

Farmers Market has become one of Norway’s most popular live bands….

So yeah, as if you needed further proof that Norway is awesome, here we have a free jazz band from a nation of about five million people that also specializes in folk music of the Balkan region. And even beyond that, it’s awesome.

This isn’t free jazz in the artsy-fartsy deeper-than-the-ocean-blue sense where they’re kind of working with some intellectual but not necessarily aesthetically pleasing concept. On the contrary, these are songs in the traditional Western sense with a predominant influence–melodically, harmonically, instrumentally–from Eastern Europe folk music (think gypsies, horns, accordions) meshing perfectly with a standard rock and roll line up of drums, bass, and guitar. The performances are virtuosic, the sound is crystal clear, and the music is lively, endlessly interesting, and, as a result, a ton of fun.

The first half of the album is perfect. The band lays out a variety of musical styles, from metal (“To Hell And Baku”) to sweeping-strings-style, Italian-esque pop (“Lodtschitze Mini Maritza (Ferry Cross The Mersey)”, which probably shares best track honors with “From Prussia With Love”) to a predominantly vocal track that sounds Middle Eastern or at least modal in its harmonies (“Dissident Harmony Sisters Camel Call”).

The second half, though, doesn’t quite measure up to that five-clown trajectory. The band loses its focus as the clarity of message is lost among meandering solos, frantic near-noise sections, and too-long tracks without a clear thesis. There are still a bunch of great parts on the back half, it’s just that they’re not the kind of concentrate you get from the first-half mainline.

Anyway, way to go Norway for figuring out yet another niche the rest of the world didn’t know it needed and filling it. As for the rest of the world, you should be ashamed. Or at least be properly deferential to all from Norway.

8. From Prussia With Love – Funk guitar. Sweet rocking flute riffs.
9. Red Square Dance – Almost eight minutes. Daunting. It’s good, it’s just a lot. And ends up manic at the end.
10. The Dismantling Of The Soviet Onion Made Us Cry – Takes a while to get going with a big long, almost free sax solo up top. After that there’s a sweet section, but by the end of the track it’s got the too much/manic thing of the last track going on.
11. Kalshnikov Wedding – Three song weak stretch here and this might be the weakest. This album is too much as it is, and they really could have made it so much easier to swallow by cutting some of this stuff in here. This track in particular is just meh, boring. Completely unnecessary. Trumpet(?) and drum solos, so I wonder if they’re the ones that insisted it make the cut. Only explanation.
12. Steroid Train Trip – Very nice, but I don’t need that jam bad dueling banjos stuff.
13. Meanwhile Back At The Agricultural Workers Collective – What is that instrument? I want to get this CD just so I can read the liner notes. Love the start of this.
14. Ladyboy’s Night At The Cultural Relativism Saloon – Isn’t it impossible for a human to play the horn that fast? My god.

Crianza 2007

Notes: It’s funny how one wine from one year can be awful and another year extremely good from the same bodega. This is the case with the A Cappela Crianza, it is lush with great full bodied dark mix berry fruit.  Has great structure and balance between wood and tannins. Some chocolate and toasty notes can be found but not too overly powering. Very fresh for 2007 being 6 years old and I don´t think it will last too many more years as there is a very slight dryness coming through in the back-palate/after-taste. The aroma is wonderfully intoxicating with the deep fruits and wood. Enjoyed this very much considering I was thinking it may have been past its best as the case with the roble. Great surprise….I would consume with some nice not too strong cheeses or by itself.

Notas: Es curioso como un vino de un año puede ser horrible y otro año muy bueno de la misma bodega. Este es el caso del A Cappela Crianza, es exuberante, con gran cuerpo oscuro mezcla de frutas del bosque. Tiene una gran estructura y equilibrio entre la madera y los taninos. Algunas notas de chocolate se pueden encontrar, pero no demasiado abrumadoras. Muy fresco para ser de 2007, 6 años, y no creo que vaya a durar muchos años más ya que hay una ligera sequedad en el regusto. El aroma es maravillosamente embriagador con frutos profundos y madera. Lo disfruté mucho teniendo en cuenta que estaba pensando que podría haber pasado su mejor momento como en el caso del roble. Gran sorpresa …. lo tomaría con quesos fuertes o por sí mismo.
