Professional two-sport athlete, Codie Shuffield, will once again defend his PrizeFight MMA middlewei

Professional two-sport athlete, Codie Shuffield, will once again defend his PrizeFight MMA middleweight title this Saturday (12/15) at the Cook Convention Center in downtown Memphis, TN. Shuffield is currently undefeated in both MMA (4-0) and boxing (3-0). He trains in a gym in the back of his house in which he and his father built (Iron Man Combat) and where he teaches private lessons. He cross-trains at PrizeFight MMA, Team Pincer, Oxford Jiu-Jitsu Club, and the MPD Boxing Gym.

Shuffield hails from Water Valley, MS and got started in combat sports at a young age. His father was the PKA World Cruiserweight Kickboxing Champion in the late 80’s, early 90’s and started Cody in taekwondo mainly for self-defense. At the age of 14 he wanted to try kickboxing and was a natural. He won numerous titles and was ranked as high as #2 in the world. When he was 17, MMA just became legalized in TN and Jeff Mullens asked him if he would like to do an MMA fight on his show and the rest is history. Shuffield liked the smaller gloves and the wrestling aspect of MMA. From there he developed a ground game and is now one of the top up and coming fighters in the world today. He is currently a senior at Ole Miss where he is majoring in psychology. He plans on applying to graduate school and hopes to one day open up his own gym. But make no mistake about it, he is a fighter first and wants to take both sports as far as he can and earn a living competing.

On December 15, Shuffield is in for the biggest fight of his young career when he defends his title against the ever dangerous, Kyle Lechner. Lechner is heavy handed and well versed on the ground and is coming down in weight to face Shuffield. When asked about this fight, here is what Shuffield had to say: “Lechner is a lefty and likes to stand and bang. I feel I have the advantage standing up and in the clinch. I think this fight will end via knockout or by a unanimous decision.” Don’t blink, because when Shuffield enters the cage, the fight can end at any moment and the next time you see him fight may be on television.

On June 16 at MInglewood Hall, the much anticipated wait will finally come to an end! That’s right, Landon Roades makes his V3Fights’ debut. Roades fights in the bantamweight division and has a current record of 34-5. He is known for his toughness and brutal ground and pound. According to V3Fights’ president, Nick Harmeier, “Landon is someone we’ve had our eye on for quiet some time. He’s one of the most talented fighters in this region and comes from a top notch gym (MaxBishopMMA) and I’m glad he is finally fighting for V3.”

Standing in Roades’ way is the “Baby Dragon,” Sammy Lua. Lua comes into this fight with a 16-2 record and is a former V3 bantamweight and lightweight champion as well as the 2011 “Breakthrough Fighter of the Year.”

Roades and Lua will be battling it out for the vacant bantamweight title (current champion Ryan Collins has declared that he is turning pro). Harmeier states, “I can’t wait for this fight. Styles make fights and I see this fight going to the ground. Roades has awesome ground and pound and we have all seen Lua’s jiu-jitsu. These two fighters are easily the top two fighters in the bantamweight division. I’ve been waiting to see this fight for a long time. This can easily be a main event on any other card.”

When asked about this fight, here is what these two fighters had to say:

Landon Roades….”I’m going to hit him in the face until it breaks or he is knocked out. I hear he has good submission skills and all, but I’m not too worried about it. This is what I believe to be my comeback fight. So be ready to see an intense war.”

Sammy Lua…”I’m really looking forward to fighting for V3 again. I have been fighting in Louisiana and Texas and I’m ready to make my return to Memphis and try to put on a great show for all the V3 fans. I wish the best of luck to my opponent. I know we will both train very hard for this fight. I am sure it will be a war that V3 will never forget.”

JESSE JAMES OR DYNAMITE DAVIS? On June 16, V3Fights’ Featherweight Champion, Jesse James Wallace (11

JESSE JAMES
OR DYNAMITE DAVIS?

On June 16, V3Fights’ Featherweight Champion, Jesse James Wallace (11-1) will defend his title for the second time against top contender, Nick “Dynamite” Davis (17-9). Both of these fighters come into this fight with a great deal of momentum. Wallace comes into this fight fresh off of a TKO victory in round #1 against Sean O’Grady. Davis’ last fight for V3 was against Dalton Pierce, which he won via rear naked choke.

Both fighters have similar styles in that they both win most of their fights with their jiu-jitsu. Wallace trains out of Bang gym and has recently started cross training at Ole Miss BJJ while he is away at school. According to Wallace, “Nick is one of the top guys around so it’s going to be one of the best fights of the night.” Davis fights out of Team Relentless 2.0 and makes a weekly trip to Memphis to cross train at UFK. Wallace probably has the advantage on the ground and Davis will more than likely have the advantage on their feet. When asked about Wallace, here is what Davis had to say about the fight, “Jesse James is one of my favorite fighters to watch. He has an exciting fighting style and tremendous heart… But I can beat him. Not only have I been cross-training with UFK, but I’ve stepped up my training altogether. He’s good everywhere, but I believe his jiu-jitsu is his bread and butter. I train with people better than him that are constantly pushing me to work and do better. I’m very comfortable playing the underdog role and I look forward to shocking people June 16 at Minglewood Hall.”

Jesse James is currently 3-1 in the V3 cage (his only loss is to bantamweight champion, Ryan Collins), and Nick Davis is currently undefeated with the promotion with a 3-0 record and has been fighting with V3 since the promotion originated. This fight is expected to be an all out war!

Caruthersville, MO – PrizeFight MMA is proud to bring it’s latest installment of the PrizeFight MMA Championship series to the Lady Luck Casino in Caruthersville, MO. PrizeFight MMA V will feature a minimum of 7 power packed mixed martial arts fights and will also showcase some of the best fighters the area has to offer. Don’t miss as the gladiators leave it all on the line in the caged octagon for the right to be called a PrizeFight MMA Champion!. PrizeFight MMA V will come to you live from the Lady Luck Casino Expo Center in Caruthersville, MO on Saturday February 18, 2012.

The Main Event of the night will be a grudge match for the PrizeFight Lightweight Championship as Jake Underwood of Union City, TN puts his undefeated record on the line against Josh Shaffer of Russellville, KY. There is no love loss between Shaffer and Underwood as Shaffer is the only man to stop Underwood’s brother Zach in a bout two years ago. “Zach has been trying to get the rematch with Josh for two years now and the fight never gets put together. He agreed to fight me so I guess I will avenge my brother’s honor. Josh better realize he has two years of pinned up Underwood aggression coming for him on February 18th”, commented a ready Jake Underwood. Shaffer is training for this fight much in the same manner he trained for his fight with Zach Underwood two years ago. “I plan on putting Jake Underwood to sleep just like I did his brother. Don’t blink February 18th. I plan to finish him off”, said a very confident Shaffer. The Main Event is scheduled for five rounds.

A feature attraction on the card will be a battle of the heavyweights as Chris Miller of Union City, TN will rattle the cage with “Big” Don Bell of Naylor, MO. This heavyweight clash is scheduled for 3 rounds. “Everybody loves a heavyweight bout and we feel we have matched 2 of the areas best heavyweights on February 18th. As a fan I don’t want to miss Miller vs. Bell”, said promoter Russ Young of PrizeFight.

Another intriguing match on the card will be Memphis, TN’s Joe Pass meeting Danny Andrews of Poplar Bluff, MO in a 3 round welterweight fight. Pass and Andrews both had very successful and high profile amateur careers and now are embarking on a fast path to professional stardom. Their paths will cross on that journey February 18th as one will continue to go higher in the rankings and the other will undoubtedly experience his first career set back.

An electrifying title fight begins a stellar undercard as Cody Chessor from “Team Relentless” and Union City, TN will battle Jesse Parker of “Premier MMA” and Memphis, TN for the PrizeFight Bantamweight Championship. The power punching Chessor and the high flying Parker will make for a very intriguing match up of styles. This title bout is scheduled for five rounds.

The undercard is rounded out with great match ups as two of the top amateur fighters in the country today meet in a three round welterweight match-up. Tyler Hill who represents Team Bushido and fights out of Mayfield, KY will meet the toughest test of his young career as he squares off with Ben Brewer who represents Tennessee BJJ and fights out of Alcoa, TN. Justin McCollough of “Team Relentless” and Union City, TN will do battle with Chad Snider of “Team Ready” in a 3 round welterweight affair. Gary Johnson enters the cage against Anthony Livingston in a three round welterweight bout. T.C. Coleman will match wits with Jerome Thames in a three round featherweight match up plus at least 2 or 3 more action packed fights.
