It’s  2059 and the world’s seas have risen by at least 1.5 meters compared to base level of 1990.

London is mostly under water like Amsterdam…

At the very least…. sea levels will rise by about five feet (1.5 meters) without anything more drastic than  the expected business as usual (and with the COP15 in effect) global warming of an additional 2 degree Celcius.

That is assuming no other major climate forcing events or catastrophes in the next forty years.

But if we are unlucky and we get a 3C warming – the sea rise will be double that again.  Much like compound interest for the bankers who understand the power of it – global warming and sea level rises are compounded.   

A review of climate change in Antarctica forecasts that by 2049  we will likely experience this sea level rise.

If we escape that, then by 2100 we will certainly experience the sea level rise of 1.4 meters at least. This is a certainty.

Absolute water level rise to levels previously considered by IPCC modelers as too extreme to be realistic and too frightful to be communicated widely. 

And all that water level rise without counting the tipping melt of the Arctic and/or the Greenland ice sheets. Not even counting the effect of all the land based glaciers which are melting and disappearing the fastest, either. 

All this because, just a small portion of the Antarctic – the one studied extensively – the West Antarctic ice shelf is breaking away and melting in the sea. This will cause your kids to go swimming in their bedrooms.

Just the West Antarctic – Never mind the vast East Antarctic ice melt that’s just as perilous if not more so in it’s sea level rise effect than the West Antarctic….

The East Antarctic is breaking apart too and some of it’s broken off bits are huge icebergs floating off. Some even made it all the way to New Zealand this week and not without melting… But the East antarctic will be the focus of the next data set review. For now we focus on the West Antarctic alone in our modeling that’ s giving us the present headache.

The specific data set review, compiled in a report called: ”Antarctic Climate Change and the Environment”, was compiled and peer reviewed by 100 scientists associated with the international Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research. Using 20 of the most up-to-date models that take into account the complex behaviour of the ozone hole over Antarctica, as well as the most recent observations of ice loss, the review predicts that the area of sea ice around Antarctica would certainly shrink by 33 per cent – 2.6 million square kilometres – by 2100, leading to a sea-level rise of 1.4 metres. But more assuredly this sea level will be reached by 2050.

”This is the first comprehensive review of Antarctic climate change that covers how the climate of the icy continent has changed from deep time,” says John Turner of the British Antarctic Survey, lead editor of the report. The report also makes predictions about how the Antarctic climate will change over the next century.

For the past 30 years, the hole in the atmosphere’s ozone layer above Antarctica has protected the bulk of the continent from the effects of climate change by generating fierce winds. In that time, sea ice around the continent has increased by 10 per cent.

The new report warns that when the ozone hole heals – and it will, possibly by the end of the century – Antarctica will feel the full force of global warming, with temperatures rising by as much as 3 °C by 2100.

The report backs the predictions of Stefan Rahmstorf at Potsdam University, Germany, whose own work suggests that given the speed at which West Antarctica’s ice sheets are shrinking, sea levels are likely to rise by 1.4 metres by 2100. In contrast, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Fourth Assessment, published in 2007, predicted 59 centimetres.

“I am not the one to judge my own paper, but there is indeed indication that these higher numbers – not only from my study, by the way – are now the new mainstream,” says Rahmstorf.

The IPCC’s sea-level rise projections are considered to be conservative, as they don’t take into account the fact that Antarctica’s loss of ice will accelerate as temperatures rise over the continent.

By 2100, the West Antarctic Ice Sheet alone could lose enough ice mass to raise sea levels globally by “tens of centimetres,” Turner says.

Despite the transformations climate change will create on Antarctica, the study concludes on an upbeat note: only a few of the continent’s species are likely to become extinct by 2100.

Many marine creatures can survive a change in temperature of 5 to 10 °C before dying, but “a rise of this magnitude in the Southern Ocean is extremely unlikely to be survived by many in 2100″, the study says

Of course we won’t be alive then – so who cares. 

Our remnants though; will float off the cemeteries mixing it up with those unlucky enough to be alive Post Katrina style.  As it was in New Orleans when the corpses in their boxes, floated off the flooded cemeteries mixing it up and swimming with the living.

Well, it looks like we have to agree with all previous answers since the most important factor is the definition of Singularity. And then again, we have to look deeper into the issue since singularity is not the only term used for such future technological advances.

Overall, sure we are not on the verge of Singularity or any other seriously advanced changes. However, later on, years ahead, we might be changing the view of it and be kinda on such a verge.

Yes, the technology development in humanity has two opposite theory: 1. It sure looks like the technology is developing very fast right now and it’s not linear. So, we can see huge acceleration making changes fast. 2. On the other hand, I have to agree with Brian’s answer and information that we are not even close to a tiny bit of discovering our Universe potential in any way of humanity or technology or the Universe itself.

So, with this duality of very well developed technology now and not really developed at all taking into account the global issues and discoveries in the future, we can’t really say where we are right now. The whole humanity rising in the Universe looks like a tiny peak on the time line of the Universe’s life span. Unfortunately (or fortunately), humanity on Earth does not matter to the whole Universe as a major influence factor. We sure have some potential of changing the world as we know it by just giving out some positive results to the whole Universe and being just another “cell” out there making the bigger thing compiling all the matter… just like a single neural cell in our brain network. So, we might be a cell in the Universe brain.

Anyhow, coming back to the being on the verge of singularity or other very well developed technologies that might change our own human being, it might be viewed as the situation at any particular point and its thinking of the future. Meaning that right now we don’t think we are on the verge of singularity and kinda nearing it, but later on, say in 50 years, we would again saying that we are not on the verge of singularity since its meaning and the definition will already be changed and we’ll be looking for even more advancement. I guess, right now, any human looks like a “singular” person to people living in stone age. Imagine those stone age people meeting our current human with all the cell phones, laptops with 3G communications, bluetooth, speaking with others on the other side of the planet without any visible links or actual contact. They would think of us at least like cyborgs or any other term closely related to singularity. And we can prolong such an interpretation to our own future.

Taking everything into account, it could be possible to make an assumption that the major factor of being on the verge of singularity depends on the overall timeline of humanity or the whole Universe, and what it stands for at any given moment.

Well, let’s see. I bet that we reach the singularity phase, as we understand this term and possibilities right now, in about 100 years. Voici le générique du début de l’émission québécoise ‘’Dans Une Galaxie Près De Chez Vous’’. C’est peut-être une comédie à la “Star Trek”, mais il reste que ce qui est dit là peut se passer très bientôt, même que ça déjà commencé.

Tout le monde aujourd’hui sait que la situation de notre planète devient critique ; l’écologie est lourdement touchée. Pourquoi ? La vie humaine engendre beaucoup trop de pollution, de déchets, etc. Résultat : toute forme de vie sur Terre est menacée.

Depuis l’époque de l’ère industrielle, avec l’avènement des voitures et les énergies non-renouvelables, le taux de carbone [CO2] dans l’air a largement augmenté.

De plus, le fait que la population planétaire ne cesse d’augmenter n’aide pas à notre situation. Vous savez, plus on est nombreux, plus on produit des déchets, d’électricité. En plus, nous vivons dans une société de grande consommation.

Il y a aussi ce qu’on appelle le gaz à effet de serre, qui est causé par 74 % du dioxyde de carbone [CO2], principal gaz produit par l’activité humaine. Par exemple, il y a l’utilisation massive des combustibles fossiles, un des facteurs du réchauffement climatique. Malheureusement, la liste est longue concernant les causes de ce réchauffement.

Pour ce qui est des conséquences, ce n’est pas trop compliqué. Ces dernières années, nous avons pu observer une [trop] grande augmentation des catastrophes naturelles, comme les tsunamis, les tornades, les ouragans, les cyclones… Si ça continue comme ça, le scénario de The Day After Tomorrow, avec Jake Gyllenhaal, deviendra réalité !

Personnellement, je trouve que le monde est trop égoïste. Les gens acceptent de faire des bonnes actions pour sauver la planète seulement si ça engendre de bons profits. Sinon, ce n’est pas rentable ! Mais quel esprit d’initiative… !

Heureusement qu’il existe ce qu’on appelle le protocole de Kyōto. Certes, les plus grands pays comme le Canada et les U.S.A. n’y participent pas trop trop [voire pas du tout], mais c’est quand même un petit pas de plus vers un monde meilleur.

Leur objectif ? S’engager à une réduction globale de 5,2 % des émissions de dioxyde de carbone d’ici 2012 par rapport aux émissions de 1990. En tout, les objectifs vont jusqu’en 2050, voire 2100.

La situation au Canada n’est pas très belle dans le dossier. Notre pays fait parti du protocole, mais Harper ne met ni effort et ni argent là-dedans. Au lieu de se remplir les poches d’argent, l’écologie devrait devenir l’un des investissements prioritaires après la santé et l’éducation.

Peut-être que nous sommes victimes que du début des conséquences, mais pensez aux générations suivantes ! Avant qu’il ne soit trop tard…

En plus, si on commence à investir maintenant, ça coutera ben moins cher que si c’est rendu trop loin, car les ravages seront déjà fait, pis ça risque de mener à un suicide mondial ! Agissons maintenant !

Sauf que Harper ne veut rien savoir.

Les pays les plus riches sont les principaux responsables de la pollution, en l’occurrence du Canada et des États-Unis. Ce qui est triste là-dedans, c’est que ces deux pays-là ne font aucun effort. Pourtant, ils devraient être les plus actifs !

Exploitation Des Sables Bitumineux En Alberta

Il faut dire que l’Alberta n’aide pas trop à notre situation. Elle est présentement la plus riche du pays à cause de l’or noir. Le Canada est le premier fournisseur du pétrole des États-Unis. Pétrole = argent, alors vous devinez bien que Harper est dans une situation plutôt embarrassante puisqu’à cause de cela, il ne peut pas trop mettre en place des politiques environnementales pour réduire les gaz à effet de serre, même si le pays est montré du doigt à cause des sables bitumineux.

Pour le Québec, c’est moins pire. Il y a beaucoup de personnes qui s’impliquent dans la cause environnementale. La province veut même être reconnue à part entière dans le protocole de Kyōto, même si le Canada ne fait rien. La California, quant à elle, a signé un accord avec le Parlement de California, mettant l’état en conformité avec le protocole de Kyōto.

En passant, ce n’est pas en votant pour le Parti Vert que tout va changer…

En somme, la couche d’ozone devient de plus en plus fragile, la température mondiale ne cesse de se réchauffer, ce qui amène à la fonte des glaciers et à des catastrophes naturelles. C’est malheureux, mais c’est de notre faute. À nous, les humains.

Comme le dicton le dit si bien : on récolte ce que l’on sème…

Savez-vous que…

Si nous arrêtons dès maintenant la production de CO2, les conséquences dû au réchauffement climatique perdureront pendant encore…des millénaires ! Pourquoi ? Simplement parce que la durée de vie du carbone déjà émis dans l’atmosphère, en plus de l’inertie des océans, vont relâcher très lentement l’excès de chaleur.

Si aujourd’hui nous n’émettons plus de carbone, la température baisserait seulement d’un demi-degré d’ici l’an 3000 !

C’est décourageant, certes, mais sachez que si nous ne faisons rien, ça pourrait être vraiment pire ! La vie est si précieuse… ce serait dommage de la gâcher.

Trouver une nouvelle planète, comme le fait l’équipage du Romano-Fafard, ne sera pas la solution idéale, car le même scénario concernant les guerres et l’écologie va se répéter.

A little while i didn’t find any Documents about it but then i found a simple description that shows me the Serial Port on that box.

After that i found some notices that D-Link has an backup-image that is loaded after a failed firmware update.

The trick is that you don’t reach that backup image Webconsole via 192.168.0.1 – which is standard for this system- but 10.0.0.1, then you can just give it a new Firmware and everything is fine again

I bought my mustang as a running convertible. That doesn’t mean it ran WELL, it just ran. I have the receipts from the engine/carburetor rebuild, and mechanically speaking the car idles fine. Once I got the car home I found that the carburetor was not operating properly. It would start without hesitation, but the choke didn’t want to move.

The previous owner had compensated by setting the choke more than 90 degrees too rich. The problem is that at 30 mph, the car wants to stall out. Certainly not what I would consider a safe driver.

There is also a significant amount of carbon of the choke valve and a ton of rust on the spring coil. Not only that, but the choke piston is completely missing! The vacumn works just fine, but without the choke piston, that doesn’t matter too much!

I decided to completely disassemble the carburetor, clean the engine paint overspray, replace the gaskets, and dip every nut and bolt. The goal is to restore the carburetor to “new” condition. I scoured a mustang junkyard for a replacement piston, but in the end I’ve decided to replace the choke with an electric, rather than manual, choke. This should provide greater reliability, and although not “original”, it will be unseen beneath the air intake, so I’d be very surprised if anyone noticed.

I’ll post photos once I get the carburetor finished, in the meantime I’m planning on stripping and repainting the air intake and valve covers back to a high quality gold finish.

After watching ABC’s Earth 2100 tonight I could not help but feel the sense of the New World Order’s hand on bringing this to television. Although it comes off as a hypothetical representation of the possible future of Earth in the next hundred years, the story behind the story is simply “depopulation”. With the environment as a front which is often the case with the New World Order’s Agenda the Illuminati’s premise of the Human Condition as the enemy and the need to decrease us in order to sustain this planet is clear and present see the Georgia Guidestones. You will notice the many references to the population explosion mentioned throughout the film. The potential reason for the FEMA camps and coffins might be explained with a surge in “environmental refugees fleeing to the United States. Seclusion, separation and even killing of the same refugees by armed Border Police in mass executions. Not to mention the number of deaths that would occur in the refugee camps from disease and hunger would also potentially be in the hundreds of thousands.

I saw some of this last night, it’s the most insane predictive programming I have ever seen, they tell some fictionalized story of a woman’s life in the future where the entire world is destroyed due to overpopulation, global warming and resource depletion.

The earth is a hellhole, the whole middle of the United States is an unlivable desert with no water, they tell a fictional story of a plague killing people en masse and how everyone has to be quarantined to fight it, the US is in total bedlam but NY and California are the only places you can live because they are “sustainable” cities.

The ‘fictional’ character who is telling the story speaks of how much ‘hope’ she gets from seeing all the solar technologies etc., as she is saying all this they have some musical interlude where they have Obama’s voice speaking about how all the changes we made in the past saved us (in the shows present) etc. It really sounded like Obama actually personally recorded this in a studio just for this propaganda piece.

At the end they say how this whole disaster scenario is not set in stone, and how we can avert catastrophe (even though they made this whole thing up) if we only change our way of life and re-engineer our entire society through living “sustainably.” What they don’t tell you something like air conditioning is not considered sustainable, eating meat is not considered sustainable, having appliances in your house is not sustainable, having suburban housing is not sustainable, driving a car or using any fossil fuels is not sustainable, these are all things globalist millionaires like Maurice Strong (who no doubt lives a life of poverty and chastity) feel must no longer be allowed to be used by those of us in the “affluent middle class.”

We are talking about the total destruction of our entire way of life, turning the US into a literal third world dictatorship where the new crimes will be things like taking too many showers, using too much air conditioning, using too much heating, failing to recycle, throwing away too much trash, etc. If these people get their way it will be hell on earth, this propaganda is so dangerous it must be exposed for what it is.

David Orrell se dedica a los modelos de predicción del clima, pero no tiene mucha fe en ellos. Ha escrito un libro bastante sugestivo sobre ellos, con un título muy ambicioso:  “The Future of Everything: The Science of Prediction“. Más adelante escribiré una reseña sobre este libro que se dedica a explorar la historia de la predicción, revisar la aplicación de los principales modelos, y ponerlos en duda, todo ello complementado con información muy interesante, y algunas teorías controvertidas.

Mientras tanto, voy a reproducir una serie de predicciones para este siglo que medio en serio, medio en broma, recoge en su libro. Estas predicciones tienen su origen en los GCM, los Modelos Climáticos Globales (Global Climate Model), complementados con otros de sistemas económicos, biológicos y financieros. Conociendo las críticas que hace el autor a estos modelos, hay que tomarse esta selección de predicciones como un divertimento:

• La temperatura global subirá 5 grados
• Las sequías en lugares como España, Australia, Nueva Zelanda, Oriente Medio y áreas de Estados Unidos dificultarán los cultivos tradicionales
• Aumentará la producción de cereales en Canadá y Rusia
• El nivel del mar subirá un metro o más
• Tres millones de kilómetros cúbicos de Groenlandia empezarán a derretirse de forma lenta e imparable
• El hielo de la Antártida Occidental se derretirá
• El Ártico tendrá veranos sin hielo
• Buena parte de la tundra nórdica desaparecerá liberando grandes cantidades de CO²
• Enormes tormentas de polvo en el Gobi y el Sahara provocarán problemas respiratorios en todo el mundo
• El calentamiento local y la reducción en las lluvias acabará con partes de la selva amazónica, liberando grandes cantidades de carbono
• Grandes humedales como el Pantanal se secarán
• Las tormentas y huracanes serán mucho más intensos
• La erosión de las áreas costeras desplazarán a millones de personas, destruirán tierras de cultivo, inundarán naciones insulares, y generarán costes enormes para ciudades como Ámsterdam, Alejandría, Manila, Calcuta o Londres
• La circulación termoalina se interrumpirá, haciendo que los inviernos ingleses sean como los del Canadá
• Las pesquerías agotadas no se recuperarán
• El dengue, la malaria y otras enfermedades tropicales asociadas a mosquitos irán emigrando hacia el norte
• Las crecientes incursiones humanas en hábitats naturales liberarán nuevas enfermedades
• La biotecnología creará accidental o deliberadamente nuevos patógenos que se liberarán entre la población
• La creciente densidad de población, junto a las redes de transportes darán lugar a pandemias de rápida difusión
• Las diferencias entre pobres y ricos se ampliarán, llevando a inestabilidad económica y social
• El NASDAQ llegará a un índice de un millón
• El agua será origen de guerras, como el petróleo
• Un asteroide de al menos 50 kilómetros de diámetro colisionará con la Tierra en algún momento del siglo
• La liberación de nanomáquinas autorreplicantes reducirá la superficie del planeta a cenizas
• Habrá una guerra nuclear, seguida de un invierno nuclear

También hay predicciones más positivas, pero les da menos credibilidad:

• Pocos cambios en la temperatura global
• Las comunicaciones y el interés en el medio ambiente pararán o invertirán los daños en el entorno
• Cambio a vehículos más eficientes y menos contaminantes
• Movimiento hacia la energía nuclear, previsiblemente de fusión
• La mayoría de los cánceres se podrán curar en los países desarrollados
• Las células madre y otros tratamientos genéticos extenderán la esperanza de vida de la población
• Las nanomáquinas ayudarán a controlar el calentamiento global y a eliminar carbono de las atmósfera
• El crecimiento de la población se ralentizará y no el tamaño total no será muy distinto del actual
• El índice NASDAQ dejará de existir

Como se ve, las hay para todos los gustos, siempre y cuando sea un gusto tirando a lúgubre.

I stumbled over this new Dell laptop and I cannot believe how good it is(well, for me). It might look big but it is just a 10.1 inch laptop. It sports a lot of features including the Intel Atom Processor 1.66GHz N270 and 512MB ram for $399. For the Philippine Peso, it goes around PhP 18K. For me, that’s not bad for a Dell Laptop. I always consider Dell Laptops very expensive but this is somewhat cheaper than I thought. The PhP18K price is the base model. For that price, you have a Microsoft Windows XP SP3 installed, 16GB SSD, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950. Although I’m worried about the hard disk, I forgot that this laptop is designed for school use. It even has indicators for you teacher whether you’re doing something else nasty. You can have the option to upgrade the 16GB SSD all the way up to 250GB and more once the warranty goes off. Of course, additional upgrades may bring up the price but it will go on the same bracket (I hope) as the ones in the market already like Asus EEE Pc and Samsung’s.

For me, it’s a good one, especially it’s configured for school use. If I had the money, I’d buy one so I don’t have to bring this bulky 14 inch laptop of mine everyday at school. Of course, it’s a new laptop and so we shall see if it really plays as a good contender to the lappy’s of today.
