Ring In The New Year Peaceful Rally and Protest in Oakland January 4 Ring In The New Year Peaceful R

Ring In The New Year Peaceful Rally and Protest in Oakland January 4

Ring In The New Year Peaceful Rally and Protest in Oakland.

YOU can help cannabis freedom ring in 2010!

On January 4, 2010, cannabis patients, activists, supporters, providers, and concerned citizens will descend on Oakland’s Federal, State, and City buildings to demand accountability from these government agencies. Details are still being worked out regarding speakers and event structure, so if you want to speak, be involved, organize sign making, or help with communications please let me know ASAP.

We will begin at the Federal Building to demand that Federal Agencies respect patients rights to use cannabis medicines in conjunction with state law. We will demand that they respect the memo issued by the Department of Justice on October 19th and quit wasting precious resources on investigating, prosecuting, and jailing patient providers.

We will then march down the block to the California State building and demand that the state do a better job of protecting patients and providers. We will call for a “clear and unambiguous” definition of how patients, providers, and communities should provide medicine to patients. The federal government has stated that they would not pursue providers who were operating within the “clear and unambiguous” bounds of state law, so we must push the state to define those policies to keep providers out of harm’s way and put an end to the confusion and chaos of the current system. The state must protect its citizens from unnecessary harm caused by their failure to set clear boundaries for cannabis distribution, production, and use.

We shall then move forward to Oakland City Center to support the efforts of local governments, such as Oakland, who have attempted to support patients and providers and create more clear guidelines in their city. Cities like Oakland, San Francisco, and Berkeley have lead the charge in the absence of state regulation to help more clearly define the system of medical cannabis distribution and production. Oakland’s historic regulations enacted over 5 years ago have been a model in which the movement has found legitimacy and has grown substantially. While their groundbreaking regulations were initially the source of much controversy, they have shown cities all over the state that for over half of a decade this city has been able to regulate and control the cannabis market and find many benefits in working with the local collectives, rather than against them. We commend Oakland and the other local governments for their efforts to ensure patient and provider safety and legitimacy and will rally in their support.

We will be holding a press conference to create awareness for the cause and expose the state and federal policies as not doing enough to protect patients and providers, while promoting the sound and effective reasoning of local governments that have enacted more clear policies to protect their providers. We will RING IN THE NEW YEAR in high fashion, so bring bells and noise makers to wake up the officials whose support we seek.

Representatives from Americans for Safe Access and several other grassroots organizations will be helping in the communications, outreach, and support efforts of this historic event. We look forward to a major showing to begin 2010 off with a bang and let the world know that we will not go another year in harm’s way because local, state, and federal governments cannot rectify their policies to protect the citizens who choose to use safe and effective natural cannabis therapies. This charade has gone on long enough, and as I enter a correctional facility for my actions in providing medicine the following day, we will use this opportunity to create awareness for the movement and ask that our elected and governing officials stand up for the rights of patients and create a “clear and unambiguous” system in which we can all be more confident that we are in compliance and no longer fear the wrath of the DEA.

Date:	Monday, January 4, 2010

Time:	12:00pm – 1:00pm

Location: Oakland Federal Building

Street: 1301 Clay St.

City/Town: Oakland, CA

Why: To RING IN THE NEW YEAR and demand patients and providers be protected “clearly and unambiguously” from prosecution and to support those agencies that have been instrumental in providing safe access to patients.

To Bring: BELLS, signs, your activist voice, media, a friend, a smile, and some comfortable shoes.

Show your support for cannabis medicine patient and providers on this first business day of 2010. We demand that patients and providers be protected by the federal government, clearly and unambiguously guided by state law, and we support local governments that have lead the charge in providing access. Join Us! ASA and other progressive organizations will be supporting communications and media relations. Bring your bell to RING IN THIS NEW YEAR!

A woman buying medical marijuana got between some gunman and their target Wednesday morning.

Four masked men — at least two of whom were armed — followed some patients inside the Best Meds non-profit medical marijuana collective in the 6150 block of University Avenue in the Rolando neighborhood at about 10 on Wednesday, according to police. There was a scuffle during the robbery, and a woman was pistol-whipped in the back of the head, authorities said.

The four men fled in a Chevy Equinox, but soon some Best Meds employees gave chase in a pickup, investigators said. A short time later, the pickup caught up to the Chevy and cut it off, forcing the car to slam into the pickup’s bed.

Both front air bags deployed in the Chevy, effectively trapping the men in the front seats. The two other men fled on foot, but one of them was quickly captured by police. The other suspect is still at large, police, said.

See, this is the type of thing that has been brought about by marijuana prohibition. The black market involved people who are not afraid to do illegal things for profit do not worry about what will happen after theyre in the moment, so they dont plan things out right and end up getting chased down and airbagged in the face, and therefore arrested. They got what they deserved. Also goes to show that people in this industry are NOT to be fucked with, they have an instinct to take care of themselves without the help of the cops (if theyve dealt in the industry illegally) and so theyre prepared to take matters into their own hands. Luckily here in california the law protects them so they were, in fact able to call the cops and have them help. Undoubtedly one of the greatest benefits of marijuana legalization/medical is the protection that these citizens receive that they did not before, for fear of being persecuted for using their medicine. People may say that this violence and robbing is something that is brought about by medical marijuana stores but it is not, marijuana has been used for thousands of years and cultivated in peace. When the laws made it illegal, and threw it into the black market, it has its detrimental effects on everyone involved, like a possible robbery. This has carried over from the Al C style black market robberies but is in no way something that should be associated with marijuana. Hopefully one day these non-profit cooperatives will be able to function in peace, or at least as much peace as a pharmacy or liquor store would experience.

MODESTO, CA – It didn’t seem the home owned by the city of Modesto could have any more stories left in it. But little did authorities know Monday that there was at least one more.

“I don’t know what to think, to tell you the truth,” said Modesto Parks and Rec Director Julie Hannon.

A week after the house at Scenic Road and El Vista Avenue was raided as the location of a $1 million pot-growing operation, the home was set on fire Monday night, heavily damaging the house.

advocates are holding rallies and conducting actions in Los Angeles, San

Patients are also working with Congressional offices to move the issue

further forward on the federal level.

They will be thanking President Obama for the recent memo to California

Thanks to the stupidity of the Eureka City Council and City Manager this dispensary will provide NO TAX REVENUE to our cash strapped city because it is located OUTSIDE the city limits.

Way to go. Now maybe these idiots will come to their senses and allow reasonable medical marijuana in the city that is the capitol of the Emerald Triangle. One can only hope for intelligence in government. Of course I mean institutional stupidity. Councilmember Linda Atkins brought this forth courageously a few months ago and I hope she revisits it now that the dank is out of the bag.
