A Twitter update by the well-respected Chris Pirillo sparked outrage in the Android community earlier this evening. Chris, who runs his own website and is broadcasting his office live twenty-four hours a day, said that the Android OS does not even compare with the iPhone’s OS. He was met by an assortment of replies on Twitter. One read “How? Android is win”. Chris responded by saying that Android’s only “win” over iPhone OS is that it is open-source.

Before I give out my opinion, let us lay put the facts on the table between iPhone OS 3.1 and Android 1.5, one by Apple and one by Google. I will give Android a little bit of lee-way here because the iPhone OS has been out much longer and Apple has had time to learn from their mistakes. Both iPhone OS 3.0 and Android 1.5 have MMS and Copy/Cut/Paste abilities; However, iPhone OS did not receive these features until 3.0, whereas Android has had them since beta.

The iPhone has received much praise, as well as criticism, for not allowing applications to run in the background. This angered many users who wanted “push” notifications so they could stay on top of their content. One of the major differences between Android and iPhone OS is that the Android allows applications to run in the background. Since this is an opinion based blog, I’m going to hand this to the iPhone. Having applications not run in the background but also giving push notifications is spectacular, no matter how long it took to get it right.

The one thing that really makes the iPhone come out on top is the seamless interface which makes it unbelievably fast to get information at a glance. This past Sunday night I was out having dinner with my family. Being that classic American family that we are, we were looking at our phones and having a chat at the same time. The topic was snow, and it soon came down to how much snow was at our ski cabin at the moment. I pulled out my iPhone, opened MobileSafari, typed in “snow report for (mountain).” The results appeared within five seconds thanks to AT&T’s unusually good coverage in my city, and I was able to tell everyone how much total snowfall there had been this season, how much there was last night, how much was at the top of the mountain, the middle, and the base. My dad was simply amazed that I was able to get that information so quickly, where he would have had to have used the clunky browser on his BlackBerry. He was also very impressed with the fact that I could scroll in and out and make the font bigger. I think what is even more interesting is that I didn’t even use a dedicated application for that, and I was still able to get the information under thirty seconds.

Until Google can develop an operating system that is capable of having a great interface that allows the user to navigate quickly and get information, it is definitely not in the same league as the iPhone. Let me restate, I was not using a dedicated application to do this. There are plenty of applications that I could have tapped on and received the information from as well and in a much faster time period. Google needs to revamp the interface and give developers the opportunity to create great applications with great interfaces; Google needs to give developers what they need to have great potential. I think Apple has done a fantastic job of doing that; It is what accounts for the third-party applications we use daily.

Mick McCarthy’s vastly-changed Wolves survived for half an hour before losing out to a lacklustre Manchester United.

With 10 new faces from the team that beat Tottenham, Wolves fell behind to a Wayne Rooney penalty after Ronald Zubar handled Darron Gibson’s corner.

Defender Nemanja Vidic soon made up for a wild volley by nodding in United’s second from another Gibson corner.

An uninventive Wolves rarely threatened and Antonio Valencia fired in the third after clever work by Dimitar Berbatov.

After their shock defeat by Aston Villa, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will be pleased with the three points which draw them level on points with leaders Chelsea, but the flat performance might give him a few concerns.

The talking point before kick-off could have been Ferguson’s previous 899 league games in charge, but instead it was the visitors’ surprising line-up that caught the attention.

This movie wasn’t terrible, it was just somewhat forgettable. The movie is filled with modern cliché’s (including the leads, a self-destructive wild girl and an awkward guy). They really should have made it more of a comedy like the trailer suggested and less of a teen romance (which oddly doesn’t revolve around teenagers). The only thing that it has going for it is at this point in my life I can relate to the fact that graduating college isn’t really all it’s cracked up to be. Teenagers are led to believe that after getting their degree in whatever they might find interesting, no matter how useless, that there are nothing but open doors ahead of them. This obviously is about as far from the truth as possible, even more so today than in the late 80s when this movie is set. So while I could easily relate to the idea of needing to find yourself after graduating from school, and even all the cliché girl issues, from a more unbiased standpoint this movie just didn’t have a lot to offer. If it had more dick and fart jokes like the trailer suggested, the fact that the plot wasn’t very engaging could more easily have been overlooked.

Chelsea and Liverpool won their respective derbies comfortably on Sunday. While Chelsea beat Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates, Liverpool scrap a 2-0 win at Everton.

Sunday was always going to be ‘Judgment Day’ for the the sides from London and Liverpool. And both games witnessed equal amounts of action and drama.

Arsenal were always facing an uphill task against Chelsea as they lost out on van Persie, Clichy, Diaby and Gibbs through injury. Chelsea meanwhile welcomed Lampard back to their squad. Ancelotti’s men knew a victory would see them eleven points ahead of their city rivals.

After a mostly dogged first half where neither team created any meaningful chances Chelsea took the lead through Drogba on 41 minutes. Things got worse for Arsenal just before the break as a defensive mixup saw Vermaelen divert the ball into his own net.

The Gunners thought they had scored after 48 minutes but the goal was ruled out for a foul on Cech. However after that they failed to create any real chances. Drogba added further agony four minutes from time with a brilliant freekick.

After the game Arsene Wenger admitted that the loss was a ‘big blow’ to the team but refused to count them out of the title race. Arsenal now sit in fourth place on 25 points with Chelsea leading the table with 36.

Merseyside Derby

Earlier in the day the Merseyside derby saw Liverpool take on Everton at Goodison Park. Rafa Benitez’s men still showed signs of nervousness in a highly sketchy performance.

The Reds went ahead in the 12th minute after a Mascherano shot took a major deflection off Joseph Yobo. Everton however came back strongly after conceding early and created a host of chances.

Jo twice had the ball in the net but his efforts were ruled out for offside. Reina also saved Liverpool on a couple of occasions before Kuyt scored in 80th minute following a defensive mistake by Yobo.

The loss piled even more pressure on David Moyes and  his side as they lie only three points above the relegation zone. Liverpool on the other hand are now back in the top five two points behind fourth placed Arsenal.

United Dominate Portsmouth But City Continue Their Winless Streak

There was plenty of action in the seven games which were played on Saturday as well. Manchester United hammered Portsmouth 4-1 away thanks to a Wayne Rooney hat-trick. United’s fourth was scored by Ryan Giggs which was the Welshman’s 100th career goal for the Red Devils.

Rooney gave them the lead from the penalty spot in the 25th minute but just seven minutes later Portsmouth levelled through a penalty of their own. It was all square at half-time but that didn’t last long as three minutes after the restart Rooney scored his second.

Rooney stroked home another penalty and completed his hat-trick on 54 minutes. Giggs got his well deserved goal three minutes from time to complete a dominant performance by United.

United’s local rivals City had yet another torrid outing though as they drew their seventh game in a row. Shaun Wright Phillips gave them the lead in the 45th minute but Chris Bullard equalised from the penalty spot with eight minutes left.

This draw against Hull meant that the Sky Blues have not won in the league since late September. A draw next week will see them set a Premier League record and add further fuel to talks of Mark Hughes departure.

Round-Up

In other games from across the league last week’s heroes Tottenham were denied a victory by a rigid Aston Villa defence. The Lily Whites fell behind after just ten minutes to a Gabriel Agbonlahor strike. But Mark Dawson rescued a point for his team on 77 minutes. Tottenham desperately tried to get the winner but were expertly kept at bay by Villa.

Tottenham’s victims from last week, Wigan, restored some pride with a 1-0 win over Sunderland at home. West Ham had yet another entertaining encounter as they won 5-3 against Burnley. The Hammers went five goals ahead only to be pegged back later.

Fulham ended their game against Bolton with a goal apiece and Blackburn and Stoke played out a goalless draw. Birmingham City continued to impress as they made it five games unbeaten with a 1-0 win over Wolves.

I denne uge fik jeg chancen for at tage turen til metropolet London for at overvære opgøret mod Blackburn Rovers på Fulhams egen Craven Cottage…. Og det skulle jeg ikke fortryde!

Jeg ankom allerede mandag til London, hvor vi skulle besøge en kammerat fra uni på Middlesex University, og efter et par dage på campus så jeg for alvor frem til gensynet med Craven Cottage, som jeg sidst betrådte tilbage i 2004!

Ankomsten til Liverpool Street Station og London

Efter at have kæmpet mig igennem metroen fra Oakwood Station i nord, ankom jeg endelig til Putney Bridge omkring klokken 19.30 lokal tid, så jeg havde en halv time til at følge den enorme menneskemængde mod det intime stadion.

Synet af Craven Cottage fik næsten en tåre frem i øjenkrogen, mens jeg prøvede at tilegne mig alle de sanseindtryk, der prægede atmosfæren uden for stadion.

Da min følgesvend fra universitetet og jeg indfandt os på stadion var der sølle ti minutter til kick-off, så det kunne næsten ikke passe bedre, og jeg fik lige fanget de sidste par sekunder af spillernes warm-up.

Den bidende kulde på den råkolde novemberaften blev hurtigt gemt væk i baghovedets harddisk, da Fulhams spillere igen dukkede op fra hytten i hjørnet af stadion.

Et brøl lød fra The Hammersmith End, hvor de mest vokale Fulham-fans som sædvanligt havde indfundet sig, og jeg så nu frem til 90 minutters champagnefodbold fra Roy Hodgsons udvalgte.

Sådan skulle det dog ikke gå, da Fulham spillede horribelt dårligt i de første 42 minutter, og skulle være glade for, at Blackburn havde store problemer med at komme forbi The Wall That Is Brede Hangeland i midterforsvaret.

I det første minut var hverken Brede Hangeland eller partneren i det centrale forsvar, Aaron Hughes, dog til at se, da Franco Di Santo pludseligt blev spillet blank inde foran kassen, men Mark Schwarzer fik gudskelov reddet hjemmeholdet fra en indledende kæberasler med en glimrende blokering på argentinerens hæderlige forsøg.

Så var linjen ligesom lagt, og det virkede til Fulham ikke rigtigt kunne komme sig over den indledende forskrækkelse, da de for det meste manglede præcisionen i det elendige pasningsspil, de lagde for dagen.

Det var tydeligt på fansene omkring mig, at Fulhams spil var højst uacceptabelt, og jeg skammede mig også ligefrem over for min makker, at han skulle se Fulham spille så pivringe.

Mens Fulhams angribere ikke kom til en eneste chance i de første 42 minutter, kunne Blackburn, bortset fra Di Santos forsøg, heller ikke notere sig andet et par sporadiske chancer til argentineren og angrebsmakker Jason Roberts.

Blackburns spil fungerede dog langt bedre end Fulhams, og mens hjemmeholdet missede selv de mest simple afleveringer, var det kun slutproduktet fra Blackburn, der manglede.

I det 43. minut viste Fulham dog noget af det spil, som Roy Hodgson prøver at praktisere, da bolden, efter fremragende opspil fra Bobby Zamora, Damien Duff og Erik Nevland, røg i netmaskerne bag Paul Robinson på foranledning af sidstnævnte Fulham-spiller.

Absolut ufortjent baseret på de første 42 minutter, men ikke desto mindre gav det varmen op til pausen, og viste for alvor hvilken killer Erik Nevland er, når han får chancen foran mål.

Pausen bød på en brændende og ganske forfærdentlig kop kakao, men det blev ignoreret, da det vigtigste var, at få noget varmt væske skyllet ned i kroppen, før den gik i hypotermi.

Efter en opsang i pausen forbedrede tingene sig for et velspillende Fulham-mandskab i anden halvleg, hvor spillet flød langt bedre, mens Blackburn mest af alt lignede de statister, som Fulham var degraderet til i første halvleg.

Allerede tre minutter efter pausen fik Fulham deres blot anden chance i kampen, da Clint Dempsey kom først på et Jonathan Greening frispark, men bolden fløj snert forbi Robinsons ene opstander, og amerikaneren måtte vente med at indtage hovedrollen til senere.

Paul Robinson i Blackburn-målet måtte få momenter senere begive sig ud i sin første redning i kampen, da Chris Baird, efter opfordring fra tilskuerne, hamrede et glimrende langskud afsted fra 30 meters afstand, som Robinson fik skubbet ud til siden.

Robinson kunne dog ikke stille noget op i det 67. minut, da Damien Duff skabte stor forvirring i Blackburns venstre forsvarsside og sendte et glimrende indlæg ind i til Clint Dempsey, der let kunne prikke bolden i mål foran de ellevilde Fulham-fans.

Nevland kunne have fordoblet sit mål-antal ti minutter senere, da nordmanden brød alene igennem, men selvom undertegnede og halvdelen af stadion troede, bolden gik i kassen, røg afslutningen snert forbi Robinsons mål. I mellemtiden kunne vi så se halv-dumme ud efter at have været ellevilde over et mål, som rent faktisk ikke var et mål…..

3-0 målet kom dog i det 88. minut, da den indskiftede comeback-kid, Simon Davies, sendte et indlæg fra højre ind til Dempsey, der, med en fiks vending forbi en svag Keith Andrews, fik sat en afslutning ind bag en prisgivet Robinson.

Måske ikke verdens mest fortjente resultat bedømt ud fra hele kampen, men ikke desto mindre viste vi en kynisme, jeg ikke har set fra Fulham i lang tid på trods af vores gode form i denne sæson.

Lækkert at overvære sæsonens hidtil største sejr på trods af frustrerende første 42 minutter! Bolton venter næste gang på hjemmebane i morgen!

Here is a link to the Cisco blueprint for the CCIE Security 3.0 webpage.  I don’t want to get my butt sued off from Cisco or anyone else for that matter so I am not going to put any copyrighted material on this blog.   When I began my studies years ago I tried out the different vendors that offered CCIE security training.  I have workbooks from a number of them and from my own personal opinion I believe that Internetwork Experts to be among the best.  I will not say who the other vendors are that I’ve tried but I will say they were very lacking on the security content when I tried them out and it seemed to be more of an afterthought then a priority to them.   A lot of the best instructors have moved over to IE, further adding to the quality of the instruction and materials that are being produced.  I don’t get any sort of kickback by recommending them so if you’re starting your journey, they might be work looking into.

1. What is USB 3.0 (aka. SuperSpeed USB)?

USB 3.0 is the next major revision of the ubiquitous Universal Serial Bus, created in 1996 by a consortium of companies led by Intel to dramatically simplify the connection between host computer and peripheral devices. Fast forwarding to 2009, USB 2.0 has been firmly entrenched as the de-facto interface standard in the PC world for years (with about 6 billion devices sold), and yet still the need for more speed by ever faster computing hardware and ever greater bandwidth demands again drive us to where a couple of hundred megabits per second is just not fast enough.

In 2007, Intel demonstrated SuperSpeed USB at the Intel Developer Forum. Version 1.0 of the USB 3.0 (confusing, isn’t it?) specification was completed on November 17, 2008. As such, the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) has taken over managing the specifications and publishes the relevant technical documents necessary to allow the world of developers and hardware manufacturers to begin to develop products around the USB 3.0 protocol.

In a nutshell, USB 3.0 promises the following:

• Higher transfer rates (up to 4.8 Gbps)
• Increased maximum bus power and increased device current draw to better accommodate power-hungry devices
• New power management features
• Full-duplex data transfers and support for new transfer types
• New connectors and cables for higher speed data transfer…although they are backwards compatible with USB 2.0 devices and computers (more on this later)

2. Isn’t USB 2.0 fast enough?
Well, yes and no. USB 2.0 for many applications provides sufficient bandwidth for a variety of devices and hubs to be connected to one host computer. However, with today’s ever increasing demands placed on data transfers with high-definition video content, terrabyte storage devices, high megapixel count digital cameras, and multi-gigabyte mobile phones and portable media players, 480Mbps is not really fast anymore. Furthermore, no USB 2.0 connection could ever come close to the 480Mbps theoretical maximum throughput, making data transfer at around 320 Mbps – the actual real-world maximum. Similarly, USB 3.0 connections will never achieve 4.8 Gbps, but even 50% of that in practice is almost a 10x improvement over USB 2.0.

3. How does USB 3.0 achieve the extra performance?
USB 3.0 achieves the much higher performance by way of a number of technical changes. Perhaps the most obvious change is an additional physical bus that is added in parallel with the existing USB 2.0 bus. This means that where USB 2.0 previously had 4 wires (power, ground, and a pair for differential data), USB 3.0 adds 4 more for two pairs of differential signals (receive and transmit) for a combined total of 8 connections in the connectors and cabling. These extra two pairs were necessary to support the SuperSpeed USB target bandwidth requirements, because the two wire differential signals of USB 2.0 were not enough.

Furthermore, the signaling method, while still host-directed, is now asynchronous instead of polling. USB 3.0 utilizes a bi-directional data interface rather than USB 2.0’s half-duplex arrangement, where data can only flow in one direction at a time. Without getting into any more technical mumbo jumbo, this all combines to give a ten-fold increase in theoretical bandwidth, and a welcome improvement noticeable by anyone when SuperSpeed USB products hit the market.

4. What other improvements does USB 3.0 provide?
The enhancements to SuperSpeed USB are not just for higher data rates, but for improving the interaction between device and host computer. While the core architectural elements are inherited from before, several changes were made to support the dual bus arrangement, and several more are notable for how users can experience the improvement that USB 3.0 makes over USB 2.0:

• More power when needed
  • 50% more power is provided for unconfigured or suspended devices (150 mA up from 100 mA), and 80% more power is available for configured devices (900 mA up from 500 mA). This means that more power-hungry devices could be bus powered, and battery powered devices that previously charged using bus power could potentially charge more quickly.
  • A new Powered-B receptable is defined with two extra contacts that enable a devices to provide up to 1000 mA to another device, such as a Wireless USB adapter. This eliminates the need for a power supply to accompany the wireless adapter…coming just a bit closer to the ideal system of a wireless link without wires (not even for power). In regular wired USB connections to a host or hub, these 2 extra contacts are not used.
• Less power when it’s not needed
  Power efficiency was a key objective in the move to USB 3.0. Some examples of more efficient use of power are:

   

  • Link level power management, which means either the host computer or the device can initiate a power savings state when idle
  • The ability for links to enter progressively lower power management states when the link partners are idle
  • Continuous device polling is eliminated
  • Broadcast packet transmission through hubs is eliminated
  • Device and individual function level suspend capabilities allow devices to remove power from all, or portions of their circuitry not in use
• Streaming for bulk transfers is supported for faster performance
• Isochronous transfers allows devices to enter low power link states between service intervals
• Devices can communicate new information such as their latency tolerance to the host, which allows better power performance

To paint an accurate picture, not everything in USB 3.0 is a clear improvement. Cable length, for one, is expected to have a significant limitation when used in applications demanding the highest possible throughput. Although maximum cable length is not specified in the USB 3.0 specification, the electrical properties of the cable and signal quality limitations may limit the practical length to around 3 metres when multi-gigabit transfer rates are desired. This length, of course, can be extended through the use of hubs.

Additionally, some SuperSpeed USB hardware, such as hubs, may always be more expensive than their USB 2.0 counterparts. This is because by definition, a SuperSpeed hub contains 2 hubs: one that enumerates as a SuperSpeed hub, and a second one that enumerates as a regular high-speed hub. Until the USB hub silicon becomes an integrated SuperSpeed USB + Hi-Speed USB part, there may always be a significant price difference.

Some unofficial discussion has surfaced on the web with respect to fiber-optic cabling for longer cable length with USB 3.0. The specification makes no mention of optical cabling, so we conclude that this will be defined in a future spec revision, or left to 3rd party companies to implement cable extension solutions for SuperSpeed USB.

I am completely awestruck…  Lighting and shader upgrades, dramatic weather an’ environmental changes, new skills, weapons, armors, areas, swimming, boats, CUSTOM PLAYER HOUSING (always a big thing for me, lmao), shugos building the houses, Templar “GET OVER HERE!” Scorpion pull, H2H combat, mounts, combative tamable MOUNTS!?  I honestly didn’t think the game needed mounts but… holy crap, the giants!!  … PLAYER HOUSING!!!  Community villages too!?  I thought Runes of Magic had a good thing goin’ with their housing system, but implementing lots into a village is just crazy!!  I mean, FFXI an’ RoM you had an npc or zoning point that’d take you to your designated personal lil’ space, but…  CURSE YOU NCSOFT!!!

Dal suo anno di nascita, il lontano 1996, si è evoluta nel tempo, fino ad arrivare alla versione 3.0, il cui lancio in grande stile era previsto proprio per il 2009. Peccato che, se va bene, al momento tutti utilizzano ancora la 2.0.

Che è successo, dunque, alla nuova arrivata? È stata forse rapita dagli alieni? Non proprio…

Ancora una vittoria casalinga (la seconda consecutiva) per la Pallavolo Campi Gruppo Mazzuoli, avversario di turno la Pallavolo Vigor Ancona, 3-0 (25-18/25-22/27-25) per i ragazzi di Paolo Tofanari.
Primo set all’insegna dell’equilibrio fino al 15 pari, poi un errore arbitrale innervosisce il sestetto marchigiano che non riesce ad esprimersi al meglio, consentendo alla Pallavolo Campi, trascinata da un Razzi con alte percentuali in ricezione e un Bolognesi inarrestabile in attacco e a muro, di aggiudicarsi il set. Il secondo parziale è abbatanza equilibrato, la Vigor Ancona, nonotante qualche errore di precisione, riesce a rimanere sempre in corsa ed a impensierire i ragazzi di mister Paolo Tofanari. Nei momenti decisivi però la Pallavolo Campi riesce a gestire bene e ad aggiudicarsi anche il secondo set.
Il terzo parziale è quello piu’ combattuto come dimostra il punteggio (27-25), anche qui le emozioni arrivano nel finale e il film è sempre lo stesso, Pallavolo Campi sempre avanti e Vigor Ancona che insegue, senza però mollare di un millimetro, senza mai abbatersi quando il vantaggio aumenta. Nel momento decisivo però è il sestetto campigiano ad essere piu’ concreto e ad aggiudicarsi questi 3 importanti punti.
Con questa vitoria la Pallavolo Campi Gruppo Mazzuoli si mantiene al quarto posto in coabitazione con Vecci Jesi, preceduta solo da San Benedetto, Firenze Volley e Invicta Grosseto.

Venerdi 27 Novembre alle ore 21 presso l’Auditorium Rodari (Campi Bisenzio) ci sarà la presentazione ufficiale, davanti ad autorità e popolazione, delle squadre (dal minivoley alla serie B2) che parteciperanno ai campionati 2009 – 2010. Presenterà il Direttore di Metropoli Fabrizio Nucci. Molti gli ospiti presenti, sia nell’ambito campigiano che nell’ambito pallavolistico.

Every CRM has more or less custom applications. A custom application may be an ASP.NET, integration between different systems or plug-in / workflow assemblies.

For every application that we are implementing in CRM, it is a good practice to implement a logging system.

This logging system will be logging errors, warnings and informational messages.

I’ve built a web service for this logging purposes. The methods are eventually have no return values. I want to send the log message to the web service and then do not want to wait the result. This makes sense from a performance point of view.

For this purpose, i use a special attribute with my web methods. This attribute is “SoapDocumentMethod” attribute. With this attribute i am able to mark the method as a one-way method.

This approach makes my method a “one-way” method. In this case my logging web service automatically returns a 200-OK status code to the client. This really increases performance and a good approach.
