His name is an Italian twist of his real name: Tijs Michiel Verwest.

Just after releasing his second studio album Just Be in 2004, at the Summer Olympics he performed live at the opening ceremony in Athens, Greece becoming the first DJ to play live on stage at an Olympics Games.

Young Money’s Drake has come out swinging against Memphis MC Kia Shine who has made claims that he owns 25% of the Toronto MC’s hit single “Best I Ever Had.” In a post on Drake website, he wrote:

“There have been questions posed to me the last few days about the writing of Best I Ever Had and I figured I’d take the time to clear the air directly. I have never met Kia Shine or worked with him. I wrote the entire composition in Toronto and I borrowed one line from a Lil Wayne song that he produced the BEAT for. The claims of 25% ownership are false and for a artist to brag about splits on a song is distasteful to begin with.”

Kinfolk also responded to the confusion as he hit up the bank to deposit a fat publishing check. Speaking with Global Grind, he stated,

“Basically I did a record for Lil Wayne called “Do It For The Boy,” which was on The Leak mixtape back in October. My dude DJ Absolute & Enuff was spinning the joint in NY. I gave Wayne the joint back in March of ‘08 and I had yet to hear the completed version until Absolute hit me. Actually, he was in the office with my man Daralle Jones at Atlantic. He wanted buy the song from me to use for Jahiem. I tried to contact Young Money to get paid for the original track before I made a move, but couldn’t get anyone to hit me back.

Producer note, as a producer, it‘s tough with mixtapes these days. Artist will rap on a 2 track version of a beat & hook you put on a beat CD to shop and the next thing you know your beat is on the radio. It’s really impossible for Wayne to do a mixtape track, because if the song is a hit, it’s going to touch radio. That’s why whenever I produce or perform on a record I immediately send it to my guy, Maani, on the publishing side to handle all the paperwork, etc.

I get a call from Absolute and he’s like, “Yo, you sold the song to Drake.” I’m like who’s Drake??? Absolute sent me the joint in January and I’m like…wooooow! Drake sampled the melody, some of the words, cadence, etc. So because I had already registered the original record, my business was in order. I sent in the Drake record and let my legal team handle it from there. We were able to settle at 25% of the “Best I Ever Had” publishing. It’s a blessing, but the moral of the story is to “follow up to get your dollars up” and always be prepared and on top of your business. People should really read my discography and they would understand that this in no surprise. They will respect my mind and my grind soon enough.”

Oscar winning Hip-Hop artists, DJ Paul and Juicy J of Three 6 Mafia, have teamed up with reality showrunner and producer, Adam Briles (Survivor, The Contender, Out of the Wild: The Alaska Experiment), on a new television project titled, “Cookin’ Ain’t Easy!”

The project was developed around DJ Paul and Juicy J’s genuine passion for cooking and entertaining. “Basically, the show is about how cooking ain’t easy – and the pressure of our guests turns the heat up,” said Juicy J. “We’re not just cooking soul food like people might expect – we’re cooking Indian food, Italian, Asian, Middle-Eastern food – all different kinds of foods that people wouldn’t think we could cook. It’s a comedy, it’s funny and we love bringing people together for it.”

The multi-platinum selling artists will be hosting a hand picked group of personal friends, fans and celebrity guests in their Hollywood mansion each week. The dinner parties and cooking tutorials that ensue are a raucous comedy of fun, cocktails, gourmet cuisine and brutally honest critiques.

“It is a completely fresh approach to a cooking show,” said Briles. “You get much of the same take-away information that viewers expect from the genre, but it is served up in such a unique, relatable and funny way that it is just flat out entertaining.”

The project is currently being shopped to major cable networks by Mise En Scene Entertainment, Inc. and the William Morris Endeavor Agency. Adam Briles will executive produce.

Sick as fuck mash up of Santogold’s (now Santigold) debut album laced with fiyah from your usual Southern/crunk/g suspects, all put together by DJ Terry Urban. This works extremely well for me, since it features two of my favourite music styles, hipster non categorized shit and down south rap, and the result is even better than you would imagine…

This mash-up of Alice and Wonderland takes it to the next level. Adding the lyrical genius of the most known unknown rap group around serves up a cockpunch the old movie lacked. Lately I’ve been listening to a ton of hip-hop/gangster rap. Not sure why, but man, it’s been great. I’ll list a few tracks towards the end here that have been on my playlist. I’ll leave it to you to go find the songs. First, let me say that rap has a place in music. I grew up with it and have listened to it since I was about 10 or 12. My tastes lately have gone to the more hip hop side of the tracks but I think each side has a good side. One of my favorite groups is 3-6 Mafia. It’s a shame that lyrically they don’t say much besides, “i’m gonna have sex, snort some blow, smoke some weed, and pop some pills.” They’re incredibly talented musicians but just don’t carry much real and worthy content in their music. My newest favorite is Talib Kweli. This guy’s got it all, production, content, lyrics, he’s got it all. Another one to go with him is Jean Grae. If you don’t know Jean Grae you should. Her new album Jeanius is incredible. Production done by 9th Wonder with a few guests and it kills. With that, here’s a few tracks I’ve been digging recently.
