Ibland stöter man på riktigt trevliga små berättelser fram mot småtimmarna. Det hände senast för någon vecka sen, då jag inte riktigt var på sovhumör, men ändå hamnade i sängen. Efter lite zappande på teven började en anonym dramafilm på någon kommersiell kanal och varför inte?

Two Weeks hette filmen den gången och var faktiskt en riktigt trevlig upplevelse. Fyra vuxna syskon samlas hemma hos sin döende mamma. De är förberedda på att ta ett snabbt farväl, men mamman kämpar och de blir kvar tillsammans längre än vad de räknat med.

Förutom att de tvingas hantera sorgen, tvingas de ändå hålla gott mod inför mamman, som å sin sida inte heller har det speciellt lätt. I en för genrens obligatorisk scen ber hon en av sina söner att övermedicinera, så att hon sakta ska somna in för alltid. Det framkommer även att syskonen inte har speciellt bra kontakt med varann längre, så de får tillfälle att bena ut det med.

På min beskrivning låter den gravallvarlig, men i själva verket är den väldigt lågmäld och med många skratt. Den som har gått igenom sorg vet att det inte bara är gråt och elände, även om det såklart inte är roligt någonstans.

Så nattupplevelsen Two Weeks var alltså en skön, vacker och samtidigt rätt tragisk berättelse om livet i sig. Rekommenderas för just sena timmar.

Can’t seem to shake this Jay-Z bug I have.  Everything I’ve tried has not shaken it. Has anyone else been having problems with trying to get away from the Blueprint 3? It’s cocky, it’s real, it’s Jay-Z at his best.  It’s late and random thoughts keep occuring. Check it out and hear it for yourselves. You will not be disapointed.

A raíz de especulaciones o rumores de un modelo Slim, Sony anunció oficialmente la PlayStation 3 Slim el 18 de agosto de 2009 en la conferencia de prensa de la Sony Gamescom. La PS3 Slim es un 33% más pequeña, un 36% más ligera (es decir que sus dimensiones se han reducido a 290 mm de alto y ancho, y 65 mm de grosor, y su peso se ha reducido a 3.2 kg.) y su consumo de energía es menor a comparación de los modelos anteriores. Además dispone de un disco duro de 120 GB (posteriormente saldría otro modelo con 250 GB) y presenta las mismas características y funciones de los modelos anteriores PS3, es decir: lector de Blu-Ray, dos puertos USB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth y HDMI. Su precio en el mercado europeo será de 299 euros y salió a la venta el 1 de septiembre de 2009, posteriormente en mexico fue el 1 de octubre a mes de su lanzamiento mundial.  Con el lanzamiento de la PlayStation 3 Slim tambien se anunció mediante un comunicado de prensa en la pagina SCEI el renombramiento del nombre PLAYSTATION 3 a PlayStation 3 y un nuevo logo “PS3″.

A pesar de la prensa negativa, varios sitios web han dado muy buenas valoraciones al sistema. CNET Reino Unido alabó la PlayStation 3 diciendo: “PS3 es un versátil e impresionante equipo de entretenimiento en casa que está de moda … la PS3 bien vale su alto precio”. CNET también le ha dado una puntuación de 8,8 sobre un máximo posible de 10 y votado como unos de los gadgets más buscados, alabado por su capacidad de gráfica robusta y su elegante diseño exterior, mientras tanto criticaron su selección limitada de juegos disponibles.

Todos los paquetes a la venta incluyen uno o dos controles Sixaxis o Dualshock 3 (a comienzos del 12 de junio de 2008) y un pequeño cable USB (para conectar los controladores al sistema y tener conectvida con el psp)

Amig@s de ElBaraMetal, siempre es un gusto postear materiales de bandas propositivas dentro del metal y el hard rock que se consideren visionarias, audaces y sobre todo, innovadoras, pero en el buen sentido de la palabra, no siguiendo ese cauce “trendy” de voltear hacia el Indie rock y eso, sino en otros caminos más oscuros, menos transitados pero que igualmente ofrecen alternativas sonoras de interés marcadísimo para los asiduos rockeros de cepa.

Uno de esos grupos es 3, una banda que ya cuenta con amplia experiencia y bastantes discos en su haber, estos son unos cuates que se han distinguido por navegar indistintamente en diversos géneros musicales con gran éxito, entre ellos el bossa, el reggae, el funk, el progresivo, el metal, el pop rock y demás por mencionar algunos.

Pues bien, este desarrollo musical diverso, casi siempre fundado en las bases del rock, es lo que ha llevado a 3 a tocar con grandes exponentes del metal progresivo como Dream Theater, Opeth y Bigelf entre muchos otros, y precisamente el lanzamiento hace unas semanas de su último material es lo que nos concierne revisar.

Después de varias minuciosas sesiones de escucha del álbum puedo llegar a la conclusión de que este es uno de los mejores trabajos de 3, aunque carece de estructuras extremo progresivas que han dado un sello único al grupo, me explico: Revisions es un disco que se compone de canciones y rarezas que nunca se terminaron de grabar o de concretar durante los últimos 10 años.

Debido a esto es que se escuchas estructuras más sencillas, más musicales, pero definitivamente estructuradas en forma y contenido de tal suerte que se han convertido en canciones con alto contenido melódico y de muy buena manufactura en el arreglo y la ejecución.

Yo destacaría dos canciones: Lexicon of Extremism, una instrumental de tamaños considerables, y la abridora Anyone Human, pero en general el disco cumple su cometido, nos entrega canciones más accesibles sin perder la esencia de 3, que lo mismo se mueve en el rock suave que en el rock más pesado por momentos: todo se mezcla y se consigue un disco elaborado y accesible al mismo tiempo.

Este material, para aquellos que se quieran aventurar más en los límites del rock pesado y otras cosas, está de este lado.

I had always taken it for granted that if you sent and paid for a text message to be delivered that it would be, regardless of which mobile subscriber number it was sent to. At least that’s what I would expect at least 99.99% of the time, allowing for the occasional technical hiccup which would be fairly representative of a “best endeavours” clause.

So I was surprised to realise that sending a text message from an O2 to a Yoigo subscriber did not work at all; ever.

When I first started to look at the issue, I thought it might be a technical routing problem that perhaps had not yet been ironed-out, but it seems, from what various people have posted on the Internet, that this most likely is what can best be described as a deliberate act on the part of O2.

My surprise turned to irritation when I realised that O2 are happily charging for the cost of the SMS text message, irrespective that it doesn’t stand a bat’s chance in hell of ever getting to its recipient; moreso since sending a text message from a Yoigo number to an O2 number does indeed work as it should.

Hunting around the ‘net a little, reveals various posts suggesting that O2 does not guarantee delivery of SMS text messages to non-roaming partners. In the light of the additional experimental evidence that I have accrued, that would more properly seem to translate to “We only deliver to who we want, but we’ll take your money anyway if you are fool enough to give it to us”.

Victims of this policy, aside from the originators of such O2 text messages, include Yoigo and Hutchinson 3G (H3H), the latter who are Yoigo’s roaming partner in the UK and neither of which have a partnership with O2.

Some of my initial surprise subsided somewhat after I realised that O2 were nearly 70% owned by Telefonica (España), but this did little for my irritation. Telefonica (aka Movistar) may be forced to “play ball” with Yoigo in Spain itself (by having to participate in the appropriate virtual network sharing agreements), but there doesn’t seem to be an over-riding anxiety to do so from the UK – at least on the level of providing a decent two-way text messaging service.

Overall that’s a pretty shoddy state of affairs, especially considering that other networks do deliver SMS text messages between themselves even without roaming partnership agreements (for example Orange-Yoigo-Orange) – not to mention the fact that sending a text message from Yoigo to O2 also works without issues.

Unfortunately unless enough O2 customers complain directly to O2 (since they are the ones charging for, but not delivering a service), then I doubt that anything will get done about it anytime soon.

On the other hand all it may take is a single complaint to OFCOM.

Finally, whilst touching on the subjects of Yoigo and roaming, the current UK roaming partner for Yoigo appears to be “3” (H3H). A number of people have reported an inability to get any roaming service in the UK, with a Yoigo SIM handset. It is worth checking “3″s current coverage here. It looks like “3″ are in the process of upgrading their network and are stating that their coverage, in and around London, will be much improved by the summer of 2010. See here for details of this “regional” upgrade. Elsewhere, the coverage looks like it’s more than a tad spotty, with lots of “need to try outdoor” holes in it, so you might want to try that if you’re having trouble locking onto their network.

So all is not roses if you’re going to go roaming in the UK with a Yoigo SIM. On the bright side though, Yoigo tariffs are still pretty damn reasonable.

Additionally, it does seem that, prior to making the trip, you need to phone Yoigo on 622 each time you go to the UK to make sure that there is no restriction on roaming for your SIM. You can find the Yoigo FAQ on Roaming here (in Spanish) with links to countries, etc.

Truly Wonderful!  Someone has created a mash-up fan-trailer for the next Batman movie.  It features Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Johnny Depp as The Penguin and The Joker, respectively.  Both actors have been tethered to rumors that they are attached to the newest project despite the fact that Nolan himself hasn’t even publically announced his involvement.  Regardless, this trailer is SO good (I still believe there is an art to trailer-makin’) and it makes me PRAY that Nolan goes ahead with a Depp/Hoffman pairing.  It will take these two together to try and accomplish what Ledger and Eckhart pulled off.  So, without further ado, my Bat-dream movie!

When feeling confused, don’t think. And so I burned rice and organised a birthday Laser Quest. I have to ring the place and check how many people I can bring, I’d love to have a proper game with people actually getting involved, which basically means I should invite some RoI people. That would certainly help. Hopefully, the upper limit is quite high, so that I can invite people from outside my daily social group as well.  Procrastination is great. I love it.

I realised my Solipsism project, though I’ve just started. I hope for it to get way over the top, but it takes quite a while and effort, so I have to see if I can be bothered and actually have the time. The great thing is that I can work on it while multitasking, which makes it possible for me to watch Big Bang Theory and be almost useful, at the same time.

and then I watched an episode of Big Bang theory and did some homework, and my day’s been spent. Damn. I’m getting up earlier tomorrow, for a silly meeting with the cas coordinator. Not that I’ have any documentation or anything…  I should probably just not blog for the rest of the week, though as I am convinced that would have a deteriorating effect on my sanity I won’t say I will.
