Hello Viewers,

I know I’ve been quiet for some time. It’s been a year already since I moved to LA. I came with a MacBook 1st generation and a Compaq Presario Laptop. Now, a year later…my Macbook died and I sold that presario and an Asus EeePC 900HA that I purchased a few months after moving here.

Currently I’m working out of my MacBook Pro 13″ Aluminum that I purchased a couple of months ago and my iPhone 3G. I am officially a twitter addict and that’s the reason mainly why I have drifted away from wordpress.

I am in the process of acquiring a new Netbook because I miss the portability of one but not the compromises. I’m thinking of getting one with ION Graphics like the HP 311 or perhaps the Acer Aspire 1410 with Intel 4500HD. These are available with Windows 7, but I’ll wait until the holiday’s are gone and I have rounded up some money.

Also, I’m very intrigued about Android and Chrome OS. I think they are both great ideas but Google should have followed the path of the iPhone because if they do not focus on one specific device, it’ll become the next Windows Mobile…too many devices, not enough developers interested in developing apps for several screen sizes, hardware and users.

Another thing I’d like to say is that my Team, REAL MADRID are on the top of the spanish league.

Last night I caught an episode of the The Brand New TV Show on WPME channel 17 here in Portland . The magazine style show arrangement and humor made for viewing enjoyment as Co-host and Executive Producer Matthew McDonald shared with viewers the happenings of Portland, as well as local music talent Sidecar Radio, who noted their upcoming gigs which include opening for 311.

Matthew’s delivery of the content kept me glued to 30 minute show wondering what was to come next, along with the Conan O’Brien-like witty/silly comments and questions he posed to the guests and fellow Co-host Chrystie Corns.

I understand the co-hosts and set change each episode, keeping with the ever changing content, as Matthew and Director Scott Hamann of Harbor Light Films provide viewers with Portland events with a touch of the Portland music scene. During this particular episode, they not only mentioned what was going on in the area, there were shout outs to local businesses and individuals, and I noticed they cut to commercials of local businesses like The Beadin’ Path in Freeport.

Overall an impressive show, which already has a strong following thanks to Twitter (you can follow the show at twitter.com/brandnewtvshow and their handle @brandnewtvshow). Perhaps some day I will be a co-host or guest. A man can dream for another 15 minutes of fame…

I’ve spent the past few mights replaying Mass Effect on various difficulties. The one thing I’ve always loved about that game was that fact that even after 5 playthroughs, there was still more to be found. I’m itching for Mass Effect 2, started after I preordered it from Amazon.com. The bioware forums do a good job of keeping it at bay. There are enough tidbits there to keep me complacent.

Anyway, it’s gotten me thinking about Bioware in general. Here you have a company that pumps out amazing games, that actually listens to it’s customers and fans and even some of the “haters”. They genuinely seem to care about the games they make, and the people that buy them. It’s a refreshing change from the usual “we hear you, but we don’t give a flying fuck” nature of a lot of companies. Bioware: Thank you. You make me proud.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On the advice of a good friend of mine, I’m going to read Steven Pinker’s “The Blank Slate”. Amazon.com has been cooperative, so now all I have to do is wait for it to arrive. If there was ever a time I was rooting for UPS, this is it (although I admit the arrival of Mass Effect 2 next January will be the greatest UPS delivery I’ve ever gotten). Also re-watching Taxi Driver.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It’s still pretty warm out, for the moment. I’ve had my windows open for the past few days. I’ve also been eaten alive by mosquitoes. My damn neighbors have a massive pool which they have never drained for the winter, OR covered properly. So the stagnant water breeds the little bastards, and I suffer for it. Seriously considering going to a payphone and lodging an anonymous complaint with 311.

Chances are I’ll make a post later, but in case I don’t, have a good night, internet.

I recently used the newish SF 311 service that the city established to help residents resolve whatever issues are on their plates. The service cuts to the chase so you don’t have to spend time figuring out which department or agency will be able to help you.

I’ve contacted 311 twice in the past couple of weeks. First, I wanted to make a request for someone to pick up the stupid, full-size boxspring that someone left outside my house. I decided to contact 311 via Twitter. I sent a message to 311 on a Sunday, and got a response informing me that the city would respond to the request within three calendar days.

The boxspring was still sitting outside by 5PM on Wednesday. I sent a followup message via Twitter on Wednesday evening, and was informed that the Dept. of Public Works (DPW) had closed out the ticket and that the boxpring had been picked up. The Twitter rep offered to resubmit the request. But at this point, I didn’t feel like waiting another three days. So on Thursday morning, I called 311 and explained the situation. The boxspring was gone by the afternoon.

I also called 311 to find out the process for obtaining a parking permit for a moving truck. My client had closed escrow, and was going to need to block off parking spaces for the moving truck. 311 got me the contact information for the appropriate police precinct, and from there, I got the very complicated set of directions for the moving process.

Check out the various areas in which 311 can help. I’d recommend simply dialing 311 vs. submitting online requests. (When I tried to track my request for the boxspring pickup via my PC and iPhone, I got error messages. It’s probably best to just deal with a live customer service rep. In any event, keep 311 in mind for whatever random question or issue that might arise.

Well, not only did Steve, the winner, need a car because his was on hit last leg but he could be the single biggest 311 fan. He has their album art tattooed on his back. No joke!

Mayor Bloomberg is very proud of his putting#311, this public service, into practice. On Saturday evening Oct 17 at 9:30 pm I was out walking my neighbor’s dog. I saw a SUV park at the pump on my street (NY # DEK-4732 Buick Enclave). He was an orthodox man and I said he was parking at a pump and he told me where to go. I watched from my window if this was a short stay but he was there for 2 hours.

I tried to call #311 and heard all the announcements and pushed my button for English and for a complaint not a noise or heat and sat there listening that there might be increased activity and to please wait. Then after 9 minutes a machine told me to call back tomorrow. Well that does not work for a complaint number that is supposed to be 24 hours. I then called the several numbers I have for the 17th precinct and as always no one ever picks up a phone.

I was also alerted by #311 announcement that it might take 8 hours for the police to answer a noise complaint. Well if you are living through an agonizing loud party that is a very long time to suffer.

I then called #911 and explained it all, succinctly and she hung up on me after telling me to call #311. How frustrating these quality of life issues have become.Our city misses opportunities to earn money by punishing law offenders, our gov’t personal is not doing their jobs and our politicians are so busy that they never pay attention to their constituents. I would have like Christine Quinn to write me a note instead of walking in a gay march. On another issue I have written to my local govt and political rep’s and have not even received an acknowledgment letter. The only person I received an answer from about my issue was by Mrs Diaz in the Public Advocate’s office.

Since most of my local politicians are up fop reelection all have called for donations as I have given previously and I will not give to anyone that can not answer an issue by a contributor and constituent. I don’t know how we are going to keep these guys working at the jobs they are elected to do and honest?

One thing I was quite happy about this week that Senator Liz Krueger came out to get Monserrat out of the Senate. That took courage and she seems to be the only senator to go on the record.

San Francisco is the first major city to use social media to help solve the cities problems. Residents can access the cities 311 Customer Service Center using twitter. With a tweet or text, residents can report potholes, broken lamps, etc. and they will be logged and fixed.

This week the city announced that it would create an open 311 API so that developers can build applications on top of it. They hope that this will lead to new innovative applications of the 311 software that will expand its uses and help continue to improve the city.
