Near the start of the course we were introduced to digital photography and the Cannon 350D.

Learning all about appature and shutter speed we set off to experiment taking photos.

A lot of these photos were experiments and I was just testing the settings, learning how to do things.

Setting a long shutter speed and then manually zooming the lense creates an effect like below.

Creating a ’similar’ effect as the picture above, the picture below was created an entirely different way.

The shutter was set opon for an exposed amount of time allowing the lens to capture movement.

With the flash it alows a split fraction to be captured.

A simple manual focused zoomed in shot, which is slightly under exposed.

The below image is similar to one shown above. Leaving the shutter speed open alows more light in showing the movement of the car, while the flash imposes an image much faster.

The under exposure of the scene makes the light stand especially in the back of the scene where it appears to bleed.

To be honest I’m not sure how I took this one below but it is cool how it focuses on specific text.

Again a zoomed in shot, similar to what could be achieved with a telefocus lense.

Both the above and below shots are a good example of ‘”The rule of thirds”

Specifically the one above as it uses the rule drawing the viewer away from the center of the scene.

I took this last night when I was out looking for pictures to publish in this week’s paper. Unfortunately this one didn’t get run.

Schaar College of Education

It’s one of the buildings on our campus. I used an ISO speed of 100 and a shutter speed of ten seconds on a tripod.

Crosswalk Sign

This is what we ended up running as our Editorial Picture. For some reason unknown to everyone, our crosswalk signs on campus now have popsicles.  This one also used a tripod and a 100 ISO speed, but the shutter speed was a full 30 seconds.

For both of these I used my 350D’s “Mirror Lockup” function, which moves the mirror before the shot is taken to help reduce blur. In all honestly, I can’t tell a difference between pictures taken with it and without it.

I got another roll of 35mm developed from the old Minolta today. I had a much higher ISO setting than the last set as most of them were taken indoors.

These two both have a strange bluish tint to them. The first one of my fiance is a bit foggy looking almost. I think both of these problems are from the fluorescent light.

This picture was in a different building. The lights were a bit darker, but it still has the strange blue tint.

Sizing Up

The first picture is of my friends cat, Drew. It was shot last night with an ISO of 3200 and a shutter speed of 1/60, if I remember correctly. A lot of the color definition on his back was lost as a result of the higher noise levels and lack of white balance.

The second picture are two of my friends. It was shot at the same setting. There isn’t as much color definition lost, however there is still a very high noise level.

This final picture is most likely the only one that was presentable from the set. Obviously, being taken outdoors, I was able to use a much lower ISO setting and a faster shutter speed, greatly reducing noise. The natural light also helped with the white balance.

I really enjoy using this 35mm. Once I got used to having to wind the film after every shot and not being able to review, I started having a lot of fun with it. I enjoy pushing the boundaries with it and then looking at the results, thinking about how much better the images would have been if I’d used my 350D.

Minolta vs. Canon

1. Functionality – Obviously I have way more options when setting up the 350D. I can control metering, filtering, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, white balance, mirror, exposure, and several other little things. With the Minolta all I can set is the aperture, ISO, and shutter speed.
2. Results – Since there are so many different options to counterbalance almost any obstacle with the DSLR, the results are typically a lot more defined.
3. Noise – The Minolta has a much higher ISO setting than the 350D (6400 vs. 1600), however the 350D handles noise much better at the 1600 setting than the Minolta.
4. Color – Since I have a customizable white balance on the 350D, the colors quite often come out much better than they do on the Minolta.

All in all, I’ll probably keep shooting with the Minolta in my spare time. All of my equipment came from it, so I have flashes and different lenses that I can use. It’ll be fun to see what else I can get from it!

I got back from class today before heading over to the office to find that a bunch of pictures had fallen off my shelf and spilled all over my desk. I thought it was kind of cool so I made things wrose by throwing more pictures on it, then digging out everything so the pictures were on the bottom, like a desktop.

Life of a Photographer

There’s no real point to it, I just thought it was kind of fun and a bright spot to an otherwise crappy day. I used the aperture setting on my camera with an ISO setting of 100 and an automatically set shutter speed of 2 seconds. I had my 350D set on top of a tripod.

Tovább forgatják a tőrt szegény Canon PowerShot G11-ben, pedig olyan szépen indult a karrierje – mondjuk azért nem is áll rosszul, sőt!

Összecsapott a G11 a Canon Rebel XT-vel (EOS 350D) és a Sony új Exmor R szenzoros Cyber-shot DSC-WX1 modelljével képzaj tekintetében és itt mindenki meg is tekintheti a végeredményeket.

Les gens veulent des objectifs AF, mais pour des besoins astronomique l’autofocus ne sert a rien.

On peut quasiment tous monter sur un boitier Canon, en effet le foyer se trouve en « avant » par rapport aux autres boitiers. 

On peut donc insérer une bague d’adaptation tout en gardant la mise au point à l’ infini. Liste des possibilités : http://photoaddict.fr/bagues-adaptateurs-c-109.html

Pour cela, il faut trouver un revendeur de bague d’adaptation (Voir Ebay)

 Dans mon cas, j’ai pu monter des objectifs Zeiss (monture Contax) sur un 350D Canon. Restriction : Seul le mode manuel fonctionne.

A l’utilisation, il suffit de diaphragmer d’un cran s’ils ont souhaite une très bonne image ou on peut rester en pleine ouverture avec un filtre H-Alpha (Pas de Chromatisme)

Photo issue de mes essais d’autoguidage. J’ai encore des soucis d’autoguidage, mais à faible focale ça passe.

Le plus gros problème de cette photo c’est que j’ai laissé le 350D en mode JPG moyenne résolution au lieu de faire l’acquisition en RAW. Boulette qui coûte cher, car on ne peut pas traiter sérieusement l’image. Ça sera pour la prochaine fois.

Le 300 mm offre un cadrage idéale pour cette objet (pas eu besoin de faire un « crop »)

Petit essai avec ma « nouvelle » lunette guide. Résultat mitigé (bougé), soit a cause du vent (assez fort) ou a cause d’une flexion mécanique. A creuser.

I have been preparing an application portfolio for the Digipen-Ubisoft study program these two weeks. One portion of the portfolio requires me to describe how some visual representations inspire level design. So last night, I decided to go out after work to take some pictures of buildings, objects and landscapes of Singapore. I borrowed my colleague’s Canon 350D and spent the whole night walking around Connaught Drive park, Esplanade, One Fullerton, The Parliament House and Fort Canning Park to snap any interesting objects that I can find.

Sadly, my night trip for inspiring level design objects turned out to be a photography trip for me I spent more time trying to take nice photos rather than finding interesting objects! I know it is not something to be proud of but I guess I will take this chance to showcase some photos I took *that I thought look decent*!

Now, I hope I can let these photos inspire me with interesting level design ideas. Time to stare at these photos!
