Jag brukar säga att man inte har sett en film ordentligt förrän man sett den två gånger. Det är även ett utmärkt sätt att sortera ut bra från dålig. Håller den för en andra tittning, då är den bra. En film jag sett flertalet gånger är Halloween och trots mina talesätt ovan har jag ändå inte blivit hänförd. Kanske har det att göra med att jag inte är direkt förtjust i skräck, för i mina ögon var Halloween både trist och förutsägbar.

Det var fram till förra helgen. Då stod jag nämligen och stirrade in i dvd-hyllan, som så många gånger förr, och letade efter något att förgylla kvällen med. Jag såg Escape from New York för ett tag sen och kanske var det därför det blev Halloween. Jag var nämligen sugen på bra filmmusik och Carpenters musik är något utöver det vanliga.

Så det blev alltså Halloween och lita på att jag blev förvånad. Det är ju ett mästerverk! Hela första timmen, uppbyggnaden, är helt fantastiskt filmad. Ett utmärkt exempel på hur mycket filmmusik faktiskt betyder. Det tillsammans med ett kameraarbete som likaväl kunde varit tagit från Psycho eller någon annan av Hitchcocks bättre alster. Att referera till Hitchcock när man pratar skräckfilm är lite klyschigt, men i detta fallet är liknelsen helt berättigad.

Jamie Lee Curtis är jag väl egentligen inget större fan av, men det är mest för att många av hennes senare alster har varit rätt trista. Halloween var hennes debut i spelfilmssammanhang och hon är varken bra eller dålig. Hon fyller sin funktion, helt enkelt. Skådespelarinsatser är ju i ärlighetens namn inte speciellt viktigt i den här genren. Slutkampen är inte helt i samma klass som uppbyggnaden, men knyter ihop påsen mer än väl.

Så den ratade Halloween visade sig vara ett litet mästerverk. Jag tycker fortfarande att The Thing är Carpenters bästa, men Halloween är så nära full pott man kan komma.

The Reader börjar i 50-talets Tyskland och följer den femtonåriga Michael Berg, som av en slump hamnar i den betydligt äldre Hanna Schmitz lägenhet. Kärlek uppstår mellan de två och de börjar träffas regelbundet för intima sysselsättningar. Utan förvarning ger sig Hanna av och Michael tvingas gå vidare och leva sitt liv utan Hanna. Några år senare utbildar han sig till advokat och under utbildningens gång besöker studentgruppen en rättgång mot krigsförbrytare från andra världskriget. En av de anklagade är Hanna.

När man läser folks omdömen här och där är det två saker som verkar störa människor. Nummer ett är att det är en film som handlar om tyskar, men där alla talar engelska. Det hade kanske gått för sig, om inte de hade haft tysk brytning på sin engelska. Jag är i vanliga fall inte nådig med sådant, men i just detta fallet är jag faktiskt rätt förlåtande. Brytningen är rätt mild och när man väl kommer in i berättelsen var det faktiskt inget jag la någon större vikt vid. Det är väl priset man får betala om man vill ha Kate Winslet i rollen som Hanna.

Problem nummer två verkar för väldigt många vara Kates nakenhet. Man kan dela upp filmen i två delar; den intima och den allvarliga. I den intima gör vårt par egentligen inget mer än bara ligger i sängen och allt som hör därtill. I den andra är det hela rättegången och allt det för med sig. Folks klagomål ligger alltså i att den första delen är alldeles för lång och omotiverad.

Jag håller inte med. Visst hade första delen kunnat vara kortare, men jag tycker det är viktigt att visa vilket avtryck Hanna gör hos Michael. Hade man kortat ner så är jag övertygad om att även avtrycket hade minskat. Och vem har dött av lite naket? Jag klagar då inte.

Det tas upp många viktiga frågor och jag kan tänka mig att den nog berör tyskar, eller andra som tvingades in i kriget, betydligt mer än den berör mig, men jag blev väldigt tagen av just karaktären Hannas personlighet och öde.

Överliggande frågor som om människor som bara lydde order verkligen gjorde fel, trots att orderna förorsakade många människors död tas upp och hanteras på ett mycket varsamt och smakfullt sätt. Hur hanterar människan en extrem situation? Hur ska man förhålla sig till hennes agerande efteråt?

The Reader gav Winslet en Oscar, som hon absolut förtjänade. Hon är riktigt bra, men jag måste ändå säga att just den guldgubben skulle hon fått för sin roll i Revolutionary Road. Men det gör inte hennes insats i The Reader sämre. Bra, sevärd och gripande.

Playing Ace King

Ace King, also called Big Slick or Anna Kournikova, is one of the most overrated hands in the history of no limit holdem. It’s exactly as the pityful sidename Anna Kournikova refers too: She looks good but doesn’t win alot. Playing Ace King is very hard. How in hells name do you play this hand? How in gods name can you make sure you always win Ace King?

AK ?! When you get it in a cash game or tournament of whatever it is you are playing, you get a little bit of goosebumps. Serious research has pointed out that most people go broke or die at a tournament because ofoverplaying Ace King, especially Ace King suited.

Before we go further with the analysis of AK, please hold in mind that not only with Ace King, but with all suited cards, against unsuited cards the increased winning percentage that comes with suited cards is only a percent!

Ok, so if most people loose more than they win with Ace King, and loose at especially crucial times, then what is it that they are doing wrong playing AK? First of all we are going to take a look at the potential of AK, after that we will follow up with how Ace King, in conclusion, actually should be played and how it should not be played.

AK is the best drawing hand. AK can beat EVERY HAND, it is only a big underdog against AA and KK.

The rest of the hands is either just as strong or slighty stronger or a lot worse than AK. Hence you would say, AK is one of the best hands. This is, mathmatically said, true. But it is one of the most complicated and tricky hands too. AK is no

favourite against 22. 33 is. But then again, it is not much more of an underdog against QQ, one of the strongest hand in NL Holdem.

Well, George and I headed out from Houston about 9:00 this morning. And after a stop at Jack in the Box, piss breaks, ice cream and coffee pit stops I’m proud to say we’ve got this baby in our hands!!!

We got it in the back of the Prius!!!! George and I are on our way back now from picking up in Fort Worth from the awesome guys at Nationwide CD.

I gotta say y’all…. it looks pretty damn good. It sounds pretty damn good, too. We’re listening to it right now and are up to Track 9…. crave. Sounds awesome.

A GROUP set up in memory of Brandon Muir are to have their child protection petition heard before a committee of the Scottish Parliament.

Calling on the government to set up a Safe Guardian scheme, they hope that children who are suffering from suspected abuse can stay with a safe family member while social services investigate.

RealJustice4Brandon claim that Brandon’s life might have been saved if he had been able to stay with his grandparents instead of returning to his mother’s house.

The tragic tot from Dundee died from a ruptured intestine just hours after his mother’s boyfriend, Robert Cunningham, assaulted him.

Allan Petrie from the campaign group hopes that the petition – which will be heard by the Public Petitions Committee on December 1 – will bring in a law to help protect Scotland’s children.

“Wake up call”

And he hopes that the politicians will take the opportunity to improve child protection in Scotland.

He said: “Every time there is a child killed at the hands of their parent or someone with responsibility over them – who are usually under the influence of illegal drugs – we hear from politicians that it is a wake up call but then they seem to hit the snooze button till the next time.

“We have produced proposals that we think will not only help save lives and stop children from being abused but also break the cycle of drug addiction in this country by removing children from a drugs environment, which they are being introduced to as normal way of life, whilst keeping them within the family network.”

The Safe Guardian proposal the group have put forward involves placing the child with family members who live in another house and who has undergone police background checks.

Allan believes that it is the best way to ensure that the child is kept safe with the least disruption to their life as possible.

“Less traumatic”

He said: “We believe that keeping the child within the family network is important for the child.

“It would be less traumatic for the child to go and live with a family member and, where there is an investigation into alleged abuse, the child would be in a safe zone.

“If the allegations were false then there would be less of a stigma for the child in returning home as they have only been spending time with a relative – something which is normal in many families.”

With 380 signatures on the petition, Allan is hoping that it has enough clout to persuade the MSPs on the committee to look further into the issue and lead to it being debated in the parliament.

He said: “We hope that with the support that has been shown for our proposals the Petitions Committee will support the Safe Guardian Law’s inclusion for debate within the Scottish Parliament.

“These proposals would be inexpensive to implement and ease the extreme pressure on the social services and foster care system allowing them to pick up the children who have no extended family to act as safe guardian.”

“Rethink care system”

As well as the Safe Guardian Law, the petition proposes a number of steps that local authorities could take to help mothers who are addicted to drugs.

It suggests that mothers who are known to be users of drugs be monitored and helped to kick their addiction. If they are still using when they give birth, then the baby would be placed with a “safe guardian” until she has overcome her addiction.

Barnardo’s Scotland said that they had been campaigning for the government to “rethink” the way the care system works.

SallyAnn Kelly head of children’s operations said: “We need to have a straightforward and coherent system which supports children at risk

“This will require political dialogue at UK, Scottish and local level to agree a route forward. I strongly support the strengthening of the systems that are in place to protect children.

“This can only be achieved by the public, politicians and professionals supporting each other to highlight theses issues in this very complex and difficult area.”

Robert Cunningham was found guilty of culpable homicide and sentenced to ten years in prison in March.

Brandon’s mother, Heather Boyd, was cleared of all involvement in his death.

Do not install the new patch for Rockstar’s GTA IV for pc.  This patch caused nothing but problems with my computer.  When it installed the setup actually deleted a lot of fonts right out of the Window’s fonts folder, so a lot of programs suffered from missing texts.  Online play doesn’t work(well it doesn’t unless you update either).  Lets just say I payed $50 for this !@#! game, and then Rockstar !@#!s up the online play and doesn’t want to !@#!ing fix it.  Good job Rockstar.

The H1N1 Swine Flu virus knows no borders,has no boundaries, and has absolutely no respect for religious or cultural traditions.

This year at the annual Hajj to Mecca,  Four foreign pilgrims have died of swine flu, the Saudi Health Ministry announced on Saturday.

The Saudi Arabia Health Ministry  said none of the four foreign victims had been vaccinated against the H1N1 virus, as has been recommended by The Health Ministry.

An official statement released by the ministry said all had underlying health problems, including cancer and respiratory illness, AFP news agency reported.

Three of the victims died in Medina and one in Mecca.

The BBC is reporting that….up to three million Muslims from around the world take part in the holy pilgrimage every year, but health officials have expressed fears that it could provide a breeding ground for the virus.

Authorities had tried to prepare for any outbreaks by installing thermal cameras at airports and sea terminals, deploying 15,000 additional health workers and ensuring hundreds of extra beds were available.

The Hajj (Arabic: حج‎ Ḥaǧǧ) is a pilgrimage to Mecca. It is currently the largest annual pilgrimage in the world,^[1] and is the fifth pillar of Islam, a moral obligation that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by every able-bodied Muslim who can afford to do so. The Hajj is a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslim people, and their submission to Allah (God).^[2] The pilgrimage occurs from the 7th to 13th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar. The Health Minister has reported that there are 16 other people that have been diagnosed with swine flu and four remain in hospital in “critical condition”.

He added 12 others had recovered following treatment.

The Saudi government has recommended the elderly, pregnant women, people with chronic diseases and children skip the Hajj this year.

The Saudi government has said all pilgrims need a certificate of vaccination before they can apply for a visa.

This is real people, and this disease is spreading worldwide,at a rapid pace.

I encourage everyone to get a H1N1 swine flu shot as soon as you can.The reports of any side effects are exaggerated, and will cause millions of people to perish from the lack of the vaccine.

Any paranoia surrounding any alledged complications from the shot are totally unsubstantiated, and if those people out there insist on not receiving the vaccine, then we as a society should only expect more mounting mass casualties from the swine flu, as exhibited this weekend, unfortunately in Mecca.

If it can happen in Mecca, it can happen anywhere.

Please everyone, wash your hands, and go get the shot.

Nakuru, me agasaja la mente, vuelve a mi, en forma de recuerdo, con ese olor característico, a excremento, a flamenco enano, vestido de rosa.

Con el azote del viento, mis ojos se llenaron de arena, entonces, mi deseo se nublo, descreí de un lugar maravilloso, tan solo deseaba ver el lago y me encontré con la arena que lo cubría todo. La fatalidad que siembra mi vida, me permitió observar el entorno.

 Paisajes de euphorbias, me trasladaron a la prehistoria, a la época de gigantescos dinosaurios, creí ver fósiles, donde solo había restos actuales.

Fauna de extrema riqueza, un conjunto de innumerables aves, empezó a brotar, muchas me eran desconocidas, siendo unas, otras, alimento insaciable de conocimiento, rompedoras de ideas prefijadas desde la niñez, mitos que caen al fotografiar a mis amadas cigüeñas, de pico rojo, teñido, absorbiendo vísceras sin vida, envenenadas, envenenándose, entonces, prescindí de la escena, aumente mi campo de visión, eran decenas los muertos y moribundos, un festín para todo un elenco de carroñeros.

 Tiempo para dar explicaciones, el guía y los guiados hablaban y hablaban, comenzó mi visión a través de los prismáticos, me convertí en el águila que alimentaba su prole, no me preguntes por la manera, me vi sumergido en un azul infinito, en una luz nunca vista, todo era mas nítido, me sentí ingrávido, volar, no me importaba el sexo que tuviese, la enfermedad o la técnica, no me importaba nada, era la inmediatez de vivir conforme a la ley y ni tan siquiera, pues me comportaba como si la vida fuese infinita, luego, volvería a mi soledad invernal, más un pensamiento propio, que el producido por el animal.

El transcurrir del día, se comportaba al socaire de una posible presa, de cuya abundancia me servia, nunca sentí desprecio por ella, más al contrario respeto y selección, matar el hambre, un propósito preciso.

De noche, alrededor de la hoguera de bienvenida, vi las estrellas sin polución, me enamore del universo, de lo imprescindible que resultaba mi ser y de todos cuantos nos rodeaban allende aquellos parajes.

Al fijar mis ojos en las llamas, en las pavesas deslizándose por entre las corrientes, volví a apreciar el aliento del vuelo que me meció la mañana, lentamente, me llevo al gran sueño, a la absoluta soledad, a la absoluta oscuridad, a la absoluta tranquilidad y vacío.

 Roce con mis manos el espíritu de madre tierra, con gran amor, desazón y rabia contenida por la traición de sus más amados hijos, me susurro:

Cuidadme, mi tiempo es demasiado extenso y el vuestro inexacto. ¿Acaso queréis ser domados por la programación natural? Dais más valor a lo imaginado que a vuestra propia realidad. Defiéndeme, defendedme.

Algo más se rompía en mi mente.

Vi al hombre mantener un duelo constante contra si mismo.

 Mientras la tala cercana al parque hace que la tierra se desprenda hacia sus aguas, las aves mueren, por esto, por el detritus que el hombre vierte, haciendo posible la proliferación de algas venenosas.

 Otros cuidan y protegen el entorno de cazadores hambrientos sin nada que dar a sus familias, sanan las aguas interviniendo en su depuración y atrayendo nuevas especies que antaño habitaban a centenares de kilómetros de allí.

El progreso creciente, inconsciente, monetario, nos aprisiona.

 El progreso, destruye el soporte vital de todas las especies que anidamos en el paraíso Tierra.

Sin el progreso, no somos nada, entonces, nuestro deber es un progreso digno del planeta y sus habitantes.

Todo cuanto te cuento estaba enmarcado en la soledad de mi tienda, en el silencio imposible de la noche, con la nana continua del hipopótamo, del león o de los monos que saltaban por doquier en animosa charla.

Bleedin’ good game with huge amounts of gore. L4D2 is packed with a great campaign that you can play with up to 4 of your friends online. Took me about three days to complete on normal with me and my friend, and two bots. After we completed it, we went back and had fun doing some steam achievements. This game can never get boring with the multiplayer Versus and the new Scavenge gamemode. Both gamemodes also include lots of steam achievements that are challenging and fun, and usually contain good tactics too.
Had great fun getting the extra achievements and playing the minigames in the Dark Carnival.
