The Copenhagen Climate Revolution  is on.

CCR for those of you in the know…

Is a global rebellion to fight for change. 

Change in the environment, change in the atmosphere, change in our economies and change in how we deal with climate and energy today.

We ought to change the minds too of the  global leaders attitudes and  resolutions towards sorting out the environmental mess we’ve inherited and  fostered right from the industrial revolution onwards.

So from now on, these days in Copenhagen onwards, are to be called the Climate Revolution.

And perhaps history will call them thus as we move away from the Industrial age…

Like all revolutions, so with this one; we can see where it started. 

Obama said the US was prepared to cut its emissions of greenhouse gases by 17 per cent by 2020 and by 83 per cent by 2050 “in the context of an overall deal in Copenhagen that includes robust mitigation contributions from China and the other emerging economies”.

At first, that sounds similar to promises made by the other wealthy nations. The EU, is aiming to cut emissions by 20 per cent by 2020 and 80 per cent by 2050. But the US president is measuring his cuts against 2005 emissions while most other nations use 1990 as a baseline.

The difference is subtle but significant: US emissions grew by almost 15 per cent between those dates. Using 1990 as a baseline, Obama’s pledge translates into a cut of around 4 per cent.

That is well short of the 25 to 40 per cent cuts that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says are required from developed nations to avoid the most dangerous consequences of climate change.

But it’s a Beginning. Just a beginning. All revolutions have a firm beginning.

And with these humble beginnings, the US will achieve even bigger cuts than the ones Obama’s statement makes. His pledge relates to limiting emissions from specific industries, such as the energy sector and encourages others to go forward. In a way it seeds the economy and allows for all other sectors to come onboard to a climate revolution by limiting their emissions.

President Obama has given us a major boost to the UN climate change agreement in Copenhagen by offering those admittedly low but firm targets for cuts in the US greenhouse gas emissions, centred on the Energy sector and the electrification of  automobiles and transport.
Coupled with other EPA and clean air domestic policies, and improvements in present transportation and vehicle fuel efficiency, will bring further reductions in line with Europe and further ahead in technological breakthroughs.

Although the White House does not say how the cuts will be achieved – we know most of it.

The US House of Representatives has also passed a bill containing similar and further reductions, and the US Senate is considering it’s own version of the Cap and Trade legislation with a more ambitious target of reductions. The presence of those bills will at least allow Obama to point to domestic action when negotiating in earnest in Copenhagen. He also has the option of bypassing Congress and imposing cuts through the existing legislation, such as the Clean Air Act, now that the courts have determined CO2 as a toxic gas. 

Obama’s pledge also contains interim targets for the US: a 30 per cent cut below 2005 levels by 2025 and a 42 per cent cut by 2030. This addresses one major complaint from developing nations, which have been calling for a more detailed reductions timetable for the next few decades.  

At least that’s a beginning and it obviously offered enough incentives to bring China and India onboard. And make them come to Copenhagen early on with their own premieres.

These two major growing polluters that had so far resisted to regulate their emissions and to come onboard the global deal in Copenhagen – Now both have changed their stance radically… and suddenly.

Both China and India are Now coming to Copenhagen, and are fully engaged with their own firm cuts and their Premieres participating in the global work on climate change over the next two weeks.

Obama has for all his tenure and at least the last 10 months managed within the Major Economies Forum, the G20, bilateral discussions and multilateral consultations and most importantly, based on progress made in his recent, talks with the Chinese and Indian leaders, and has pushed the envelop of climate agreement further and now forward.

Now Obama makes it possible to reach a meaningful agreement in Copenhagen. His decision to go, is a sign of his commitment and his early on leadership to find an equitable and just solution for the developing world. He is aligned with all the young people all over the world, and the proponents of our healthful commons in atmosphere and in our clean energy future.

Of course with the UN climate negotiations less than a fortnight away, we may have to fight a bit longer and intensely so; just to get the agreement ratified in a legal framework in Copenhagen.  

Fight the Left-Right wing party of Denmark that wants the talks to fail…

Fight the low level bureaucrats and statists, that see their job remit threatened as is overtaken by eager national leaders to shine… when they arrive in Copenhagen.

We need to fight … Fight the BASIC countries  last-minute land mine (made in China) of a proposal by the erstwhile allies. Allies of the porcupine sensibility… Brazil, South Africa, India and China environment low level ministers; who decided like Johnnies come lately, to throw the grenade at the Copenhagen for their own inactivist and bureaucratic reasons. Of course they cloak their actions in the cover of  poor people’s interest.  But they are financed by China’s oil companies and the International oil company cartel along with OPEC and their erstwhile members.  

OPEC members aren’t obviously the participants but they finance the criminal Bashir (of Sudan) to be the head of G string nations otherwise called G77. They claim to be against the rich nations by coming up with their own counter draft of the road map text that will be presented at the conference. They agreed to let China, which initiated the exercise, to present the draft of the developing nations at Copenhagen. And then they will run… together.

Or so they say – except Lula will not be running anywhere with anyone of these yahoos.  Lula is here for a deal – as long as it takes.   Singh too, even if his erstwhile semi-faschist environment Minister Ramesh doesn’t know that.  As for Zuma – He is not going anywhere. That leaves the Chinese…  well the Hu Jintao isn’t coming so Wen Jiabao wants the glory of a deal – No?

Wen, wants his fried rice and celebration dumplings in Copenhagen too.

So the basic countries environment ministers for now grumble and play along even though; they see the benefit for their own societies out of a deal, even if they publicly repudiate it.  Corruption rules in their countries and they export it here. Hostage taking in India is big… They signify this trend now on the international stage. If they aren’t guns for hire of the Climate Deniers industrial strength lobby – they are doing the work of the China oil company.

These NIMBYS are nationalists that they fail to see the value of  strong national and rational firm reductions in CO2. And they represent the forces of recidivism here. But you also have the other side of the coin such as Sweden that after losing all of it’s foreign aid in the pockets of the strongmen of Zambia; they decided to link any further foreign aid with changes in the climate policy of Zambia. The same climate policy link will be applied with all Swedish foreign aid for any receiving country. These impoverished countries might find it difficult to behave belligerently and they might be required to participate in a positive spirit in the Copenhagen accords.

Sweden isn’t alone. it’s the same as all developed countries are prepared to do in a short order; if the ”basic” countries  climate deniers spin out of control. That should change Ramesh’s coiffure quickly…

We must fight the basic poor thinkers too – same as we must fight the Environment ideologues on the other end of the spectrum who have wet dreams about geo engineering and the Hitler youth of the science solutions – magic bullet camp.

At  least they are all out there – fully represented here too.

And with both China’s Premiere Wen Jiabao and India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh… coming to Copenhagen at the time of Obama…   their diplomats and environment ministers likely feel sidelined and irrelevant.  So they want to remind us that they are BASIC to the negotiations.  Maybe not so basic… but replaceable.  

YES to a deal is basically just a beginning.

And that’s only possible because Obama said He is going and he offered firm American commitments. That’s all. Let’s accept it and  built upon that.

Denmark will unveil its draft agreement to a group of select countries that includes the United States, several European nations, India and China on December 1. It will be later presented at the COP15 conference. Around the same time, the BASIC nations plan to circulate their own counter-draft in order to influence the course of negotiations in favour of the Chinese counter proposal. 

Seems the Indians have fallen again for the Maoist tendency to revisit history and given the pendulum of passions swaying the Indian psyche widely; now they are going through their own belated cultural revolution.

Advise to Mr Singh… The Chinese are OK for themselves but the local Indians they missed the point clearly – as it is not a time to go into cultural convulsions. A bit late for that – really and if you wanted to be frank, it’s  properly called Climate Revolution and further, its best to be homegrown instead of another cheap Chinese import…

It’s cheap plastic and it will break soon.

And of course the exceptionally gifted mentalist, Indian environment minister Ramesh had this gem of wisdom to say:  ”There is no evidence climate change has caused “abnormal” shrinking of the Himalayan glaciers”.  And this was after this other common sense pronouncement: “I think there is an abundance of evidence to show that climate change is not related in any way to population growth.”  Yeah for sure this smart man couldn’t be used by the Chinese. His mind is like a steel trap…

Ramesh goes on to say this about the Chinese proposed text: “This BASIC draft fully meets India’s goals and aspirations. We hope it is made the basis of discussions at the Copenhagen conference.”

Obviously the Indian environment minister Ramesh, having no policy of his own besides calling out No, no, no I will not go into rehab – like another Amy Winehouse;  crawls to the bar on all four for some oriental libations.  Come to think of it he can improve with his hairdo too…

The BASIC draft, which was originally prepared by China, was finalized after some changes during a 7-hour long meeting of BASIC countries’ representatives (junior diplomats) from Brazil, South Africa, India and China besides the invited Genocide Sudan which is the chair of G-77.  A good group of idiots that elected genocide indicted President Bashir as their head.

BTW, Bashir is the only one who can’t go to Copenhagen, no matter how much he might want to disrupt. Because He knows, that if he shows up in Copenhagen – He is going to be arrested and taken to Hague to be tried as a common criminal that he is; based on the international warrant issued for his arrest as a practitioner of genocide against his own people. What a group… of upstanding G77 and other moral leaders who huddle around this… beast.

You know, it’s the company You keep  - that defines who you are.

But that shall pass too.

Bear it on my friends…

We’ll fight them head on. And so will their own people. In Delhi and Mumbai, in Canton and Beijing, in Darfur and Southern Sudan, in Rio and  Sao Paolo, in Tibet and in Kashmir, in Dharmsala and Soweto, in Cape Town and Durban, in Natal and in Johannesburg, as well as all over Copenhagen and in the rest of the world.

We’ll stand together – We’ll all be there:

Sinners and Saints – Politicians and  organizers – street folk and activists – Angels and Devils…  take the train and come on, on.

We’ll fight on the streets and in the boardrooms – on the internet and in cafes – in Christiania and in Slotsholmen – on Amaliasburg and on Kongeshave – in the Latin quarter and in Istengade – on the light district and on Central Station – along the harbour and in the quay – and in Osterbro and in Vesterbro – but most of all, in and around the Congress hall.

Az egész év tömve volt szürreális történésekkel, és már nehezen hittem, hogy az eddigieket bármi überelni tudja, na de a mai nap (oké, tegnapi) extrán felülírt mindent.

So because I have to make up FOUR posts now in the next three days (why can’t November have 31 days), that makes SEVEN posts I have to do, you’re going to get at least two today.

On Friday, Darren’s mom called and said they would pay for the Poptart’s next carseat. On Monday, I went to Baby’s World to try some out. She, of course, takes after her mother and likes one of the more expensive ones.

On Tuesday, the Poptart had her 6 month Doctor appointment where she got her regular vaccines and the first part of the baconic plague vaccine. She has to go back in three weeks for the next part. She weathered them like a champ. She was 28 inches long and 19 lbs. I’d been noticing that she’d gotten heavier and her bucket car seat was getting very difficult to carry. And she just didn’t look comfortable in her carseat any more.

Yesterday, I called Baby’s World and put a hold on the carseat.

Later today, the Poptart will take the last ride in her bucket carseat. We will  retire the two bases and find a place to store them. And we Darren will install the new carseat in the car.

At 11am I’m meeting Amber at Baby’s World. I’m apologizing in advance if I end up crying on her.

Ja, a legjobbat ki is felejtettem az előzőből, amikor mentünk át egyik helyszínről a másikra, a srác aki vezetett, egy TIBOR volt. (elnézést, inside joke).

Viszont ideiglenesen lepkék (bocsánat rokk!) költöztek a gyomromba a mai koncert miatt. Kikészülök. Nem is tudom, mikor vártam utoljára ennyire nagyon, gigantikusan, elmondhatatlanul valamit.

오늘 처음으로 써 봤다. 어떤 서비스인지 감을 못 잡는 분들을 위해 설명하자면, 상대방이 타이핑하는게 실시간으로 보이는 위키라고 생각하면 된다. 거기에 “댓글” 형식의 박스들을 달 수 있고, 위젯 (구글 맵 같은거) 이나 파일을 붙일 수 있다는게 위키와의 차이 전부다.

하지만 설계가 비슷하더라도 사용 시나리오는 사소한 디테일로 인해 바뀔 수 있는 법. “댓글” 박스를 타래 형태로 달 수 있기 때문에 웬만한 게시판 소프트웨어들보다 낫다. 또한 취향에 따라서는 채팅보다 나을 수도 있다. 많은 이들이 채팅하다 보면 종종 대화 내용이 분산되는데, 이 때 아까 했던 얘기를 이어서 하면 중간에 들어온 사람들은 무슨 얘긴지 알 수가 없다. 웨이브는 그냥 위쪽 박스에 댓글을 달아서 새 가지를 따면 된다. 중간에 들어온 사람들은 “Play” 기능을 사용해서 어떤 형태로 논의가 진행됐는지 금방 알 수 있다.

문제도 있다. 아직 프리뷰 버전이기 때문에 크롬 이외의 브라우저 (트레이스멍키 들어간 파이어폭스 포함) 에서는 타래가 길어지면 꽤 느려지는 수가 있다. 또한 기존의 게시판이나 채팅보다 “너무 잘 구조화되어 있기” 때문에, 친구들과 잡담하는 용도로는 좀 어색한 면이 있다.

내가 가장 큰 문제라고 느낀 점은, 서비스가 실시간성에 굉장히 집중하고 있음에도 불구하고 기존의 IM 처럼 사용자에게 새 이벤트를 알릴 방법이 없다는 거다. 이 문제를 해결하려면 자바스크립트에서 데스크탑 말풍선 (Notification 이라고 하는 듯) 을 띄우는 식의 메카니즘이 필요하다. HTML5 에 들어갈지도 모르는 기능이니 두고 볼 일이다. 모질라 쪽에서도 이거 좀 적극적으로 하면 안되나? 이 기능만 있으면 메일/트위터/IM 클라이언트가 다 필요없어지는데 말이지.

또 한가지, 조금 사소하지만 HTML5 에서 해결했으면 하는 기능은 “그림” 의 붙여넣기다. 지금 스펙에 있는지는 모르겠지만 어쨌든 현재 웨이브에서는 안되는거 같다. 이건 원하는 사람들이 많을테니 (MS 빼고) 어떻게든 되겠지.

Na az úgy kezdődött, hogy először egy operettlemezt promótáló sajttájra mentem, P. Charles, az elmondottak szerint STÁR a műfajában. O. Marika és még egy ismert idősebb arc is ott lébecolt (Nózi, te biztos vágnád), de a figyelmem egy egyengalambszürkeöltönyös, kényelmes fotelekben elterülő társaság felé irányult: az a böngyör szürke haj, mellette az a feledhetetlen mosolyú úriember, maga Joseph Eagle, aki amint meglátta, hogy fképezőgéppel közelítek, pózba vágta magát és szélesen vigyorogni kezdett. Nagyon röhögtem, de nyilván ezt csupán kitörő örömként dekódolta.  A komplett mikrofsóp színpad gárdája tulajdonképpen totál véletlenül került oda, kávézni libbentek át, és ünnepelt celebként fotózta őket mindenki. Zseniális volt.
És hát bizony az ifjú operettbonviván előadott néhány dalt a lemezéről. A vendégművészekkel. Azt hiszem kevéssé kell ecsetelnem, amikor az Éjjel az omnibusz tetején és hasonló örökzöldeket láttam-hallottam felcsendülni, tánckísérettel. Nagyon-nagyon nehéz volt visszafojtani a vulkánként feltörő hörgő röhögést, főleg, mivel folyamatosan Nózika ábrázata ugrott be, és szinte hallottam amint fülembe susogva kommentálja a látottakat. Mindez a régi Divatcsarnok szépen felújított kávézó részében, kellően giccses háttérrel.
A végén természetesen (miután elmeséltem, hogy még az előző-előző helyemen kitaláltam, hogy mindenféle műfajon kívüli arcról csinálok hevesen metalvillázó képeket, vagy modellkedni vágyó kiscsajokról, ezzel totálisan hülyévé téve holland jazz-zenészeket is akár) muszáj volt metalvillázó képet csinálni az ifjú operett-titánról (remélem érzitek ennek az egésznek a szürrealitását), ráadásul a srác azonnal olyat pózolt vicsorogva, és még magyarázni sem kellett neki, hogy mit csináljon az ujjaival, hogy erőteljes gyanú fészkelődött az agyamba, hogy bizony hülyére veszi a népeket és otthon egészen biztosan az új Slayerre gyakorolja aHejj cica… koreográfiáját.

Mindezek után kollektíve átmentünk a Gödörbe az aktuális kollégákkal, másik sajttáj, régi magyar alternatív zenekarok lemezei kiadása alkalmából. Mpetersiamit felismertem, aki szintén überelhetetlen látvány. (Ha jók lesztek, beszúrok egy képet, amin épp szemben ül, a haja szélfútta, lángoló madárfészekként terül el a fején, az egyik szemével picit felfelé néz, a másikkal, izomból balra.)
Amúgy meg egészen nyilvánvaló, hogy időgépbe kerültem és 1983 körül léptem ki a szerkezetből, azok a szürke szvetterek,  indigókék farmerszerelések, ablaknyi szemüvegek, az egyik ilyen 50+ entitás miután körbebástyázta magát az ingyen pogácsával és borral, csillogó szem(üveggel) mesélt a körülötte lévőknek, hogy milyen ritka kincs felvételei vannak a hetvenes évekből, majd érdeklődött, mi a fenének kell fotózni egy ilyen helyen, a végefelé érdeklődve kérdezte, hogy fényképezőgép van nálam? Sajnos gyorsan korrigált, hogy ez digitális és akkor hol hívom ezt elő? Amúgy szerettem volna rezzenéstelen arccal rávágni, hogy nem, kombájn lóg a nyakamban. Rögtön ezután odaoldalaz hozzám egy velem egy alacsonyságú, irgalmatlanul kidülledő hordóhassal rendelkező, némelyest kopasz, kancsal, riasztóan vigyorgó szintén 50+, odahajol hozzám és a fülembe súgva kérdezi, hogy hallottam-e a szeptemberfesztről. Sikoly nélküli halk nem-et tudtam csak kinyögni, majd közli gyorsan, hogy ott volt Sziámi, és azt dvd-re felvette és tudom-e ki volt az operatőr, majd hátrahajol, szinte pajkosan rámkacsint az egyetlen értékelhetőnek mondható szemével, visszahajol és aranyosakat kacarászva elárulja: ‘hát itt áll melletted’, majd gyöngyöző kacagásba kezd. Ekkor már kezdtem úgy érezni magam, hogy egészen biztos egy titkos David Lynch forgatásra kellős közepére kerültem. Fordulok egyet, szinte dobálom ki a szememből a mentőöv segélykérést, erre egy 20+ srác, aki egy ideje boldog mosollyal keringett körülöttem, odajött, és a következő kérdést bírta feltenni: ‘ne haragudj, de még mindig az Európa Kiadóban zenélsz?’
(…) Hatásszünet. Mindezt kérdezi úgy, hogy láthatóan egy nem tíz centis kompakt kisgép lóg a nyakamban, amit láthatóan használtam is. Meg úgy egyáltalán. Sajnos annyira megdöbbentem, hogy botor módon nem azt vágtam rá, hogy ‘de igen’, és rezignáltan azt is hozzá kellett volna fűzni: és szívesen csinálok közös fotót velem.
Mindezek után nehezen gyűrtem vissza fel-feltörő kacagásomat hazafelé a tömegközlekedési járműveken, majd itthon leszállva a buszról, gondoltam, na most leoltok egy lámpát, és a szemben lévő utcai lámpa szép lassan kialudt.

Juas… Desconocía que hace cuatro años casi tocan los números de Perdidos en la lotería irlandesa:

También es casualidad que la última cifra sea el 42 del revés y también es curioso que 24 + 19 = 43, todo sea rondar al dichoso 42 con magufadas numerológicas. Lo podéis comprobar aquí si miráis los resultados del 19 de Noviembre de 2005.

Para quien no sepa qué son Los Números Chungos le recomiendo encarecidamente que se ponga a ver Perdidos (a.k.a. Lost). Si te importa un pimiento y quieres arruinar la serie y de paso tu vida pásate por aquí.

Por cierto que la sexta temporada tiene previsto su arranque para el 2 de Febrero de 2010 en Estados Unidos. Habrá que ver si al final se cumple lo del estreno mundial o si habrá que seguir viendo los capítulos subtitulados… Veremos.

On my message board, I wrote a note about how well the Poptart sleeps at night and how we just let her fuss a bit if needed, providing some advice that someone was asking for.

Sunday night, she stayed up til midnight. And got up at 4. And then at 8 for the day.

Monday night, she stayed up til TWO A-FUCKING-M. And was cranky.

And got up at 4.

And then up for the day at 7:30. #killmenow

She hasn’t napped at all today except when she was in the car. And a half an hour on the sofa on me.

I would really like to know what drug babies have in them that make them so wide awake and CHEERFUL on such little sleep. Because, really, zoloft has NOTHING on that. If I find out what it is, I will bottle it and sell it and Make My Millions.

And just to really round out this day, she got her 6 month vaccines and the first H1N1 shot. Tonight could be really fun. Send wine.

윈도즈 7 의 태스크 바 형태는 많은 이들에게 좋은 평가를 받고 있다. 하지만 이것이 넷북이나 기타 작은 화면의 디바이스에서 잘 동작할 거라고 보긴 어렵다. 터치스크린에서 사용하기도 쉽지 않다.

한편 데스크탑이라고 문제가 없는건 아니다. 요즘 데스크탑은 높은 해상도를 갖고 있지만 옆으로 긴 형태다. 반면 문서는 대부분 아래 위로 긴 형태다. 여러 문서 또는 프로그램을 양 옆으로 늘어놓고 보고 싶을 법 하지만 이걸 하려면 마우스로 창을 옮기고 조절해야 한다. 컴퓨터가 잘 할 수 있는 단순 노가다를 왜 사람이 해야 하나?

“탭 윈도우” 형태의 프로그램들이 등장하면서부터, 나는 이것이 고전적인 윈도우 매니저 모델의 실패라고 봤다. 탭 윈도우는 고전적 MDI 모델의 변형이다. MDI 모델이 실패한 이유는 “프로그램 안에 중첩된 윈도우 매니저”

 라는 콘셉트가 프로그래머들이 좋아하는 계층적 구조를 갖고 있었지만 일반인에게는 혼란만 일으키는 구조였기 때문이다. 탭 윈도우는 이것을 선형적인 구조로 변형시켰고, 간결한 구조로 인해 사용자들의 절대적인 지지를 받고 있다.

나는 이것을 윈도우 매니저 전체에 확장시켜 적용해야 한다고 생각한다. 윈도우즈가 도입한 “태스크바” 도 이러한 선형 구조를 갖고 있다. 하지만 데스크탑 관리는 여전히 제록스 PARC 이 소개한 “흩어진 사각형 모델” 을 따르고 있다. 보기에는 그럴듯해 보이지만 책상을 정리하는걸 즐기는 사람이 소수이듯 흩어진 프로그램 윈도우를 정리하는 걸 즐기는 사람도 소수다.

10gui 가 주창하는 방식은 이런 면에서 주목할 필요가 있다. 이 회사는 윈도우 매니저 보다는 커다란 멀티터치패드를 포함한 UI 전체를 강조하고 있지만, 고전적인 키보드, 마우스, 그리고 커다란 와이드 모니터 환경에서도 충분히 받아들여질 만한 윈도우 매니저 방식을 선보이고 있다. 여기에 영향받은 내 아이디어는 아래와 같다.

적당한 종횡비를 가진 프로그램 윈도우가 와이드 화면에 서너개 보이다가, 한 프로그램을 최대화 하면 그 프로그램만 보이게 한다. 최대화를 풀면 다시 원래 종횡비로 돌아간다. 5:9 정도의, 세로로 긴 종횡비를 디폴트로 하면 한 화면에서 3개를 살짝 넘는 윈도우를 볼 수 있다. 양 옆에 남는 화면은 프로그램 리스트의 바깥쪽을 살짝 보여주면 시인성을 높일 수 있다.

화면 아래에는 고전적인 태스크바를 띄운다. 단 이 태스크바는 윈도즈 7 과 달리, 현재 동작하는 윈도우 리스트의 완벽한 축소 화면이라는게 다르다. 예를 들어 윈도즈 7 의 경우 탐색기 2 개와 워드 2 개가 돌아가고 있다면, 실행시킨 순서와는 관계없이 탐색기 2 개와 워드 2 개를 합쳐서 보여줄 것이다. 하지만 내 아이디어는 사용자가 실행시킨 순서를 유지한다는 점에서 10gui 의 것에 가깝다. 태스크바에서 드래그 & 드롭 하거나 콘텍스트 메뉴에서 “정렬” 등의 메뉴를 실행하면 윈도즈 7 형태처럼 모아서 합쳐진다. 하지만 이 경우, 실제 프로그램도 탭 윈도우 형태로 합쳐져야 한다. 그래야 “축소 화면” 의 의미를 유지할 수 있다. 두 개 이상의 프로그램 윈도우가 탭으로 합쳐지거나 분리되는 기능은 구글 크롬 브라우저가 현재도 잘 보여주고 있다.

화면에는 태스크바 외에 아무것도 남기지 않는다. 현재 사용자들이 치장하는 수고를 아끼지 않는 “월페이퍼” 도 의미를 잃게 된다. 대신 지금의 탐색기와 비슷한 프로그램 하나는 “죽지 않는” 프로그램으로 띄워둔다. 이 프로그램은 사용자 파일들은 물론이고, 현재 시스템에 설치된 프로그램 아이콘도 모두 보여준다 (폴더는 분리할 수도 있다.) 우분투와 같은 리눅스 배포판이라면, 저장소에 있는 프로그램을 하나의 가상 폴더에서 모두 보여주고, 이것을 사용자 디렉토리로 복사하면 자동으로 설치한다는 등의 트릭도 생각해 볼 수 있다. 이렇게 하면 “패키지 관리” 라는, 일반 사용자가 참으로 이해하기 힘든 작업 하나를 없앨 수 있다. 물론 이런 시스템에서 “타이핑하는 대로 검색하기” 기능은 필수다.

당장 내가 쓰고 싶어서라도 이런 윈도우 매니저를 만들고 싶은데, 정말이지 시간이 없다. 이 글의 아이디어 생각한지도 벌써 6개월이 넘었다고 적혀 있단 말이다. 게다가 GNOME 은 비슷해 보이지만 전혀 다른 방향을 채택한 GNOME Shell 을 만들고 있어서, 빠른 시일 내에 누가 이런걸 만들어 줄거 같지도 않고…

말난김에 한가지 더. 화면의 경우엔 3D 효과 등이 대세로 굳어지고 있는데, 소리는 왜 아직도 윈도우즈95 수준인지 모르겠다. 메신저라든가 메일 등이 왔을때 음악을 플레이하고 있었다면 묻혀서 들리지 않는 경우가 많다. (내 경우엔 볼륨부터 줄여야 할거 같긴 하지만 상관없어) 알림 시그날 용의 채널을 따로 정의해서, 전체 볼륨을 줄이고 시그날을 울려주면 안되나? 이 정도는 서울 지하철도 해주는 일이잖아? 아니 그 전에 시그날 볼륨부터 데시벨 단위로 좀 표준화해야 하지 않을까? 메시지 올때마다 귀청 떨어지는 경우를 막으려면.

- Mude-se para o Pólo Norte. Caso ache que se mudar para o Pólo Norte só pra combater o calor é exagero, então pode ser para o Pólo Sul mesmo.

- Bole um plano mirabolante no qual você usará uma máquina que afastará o planeta Terra do Sol. Assim, vai ficar muito frio. Claro, tem o fato de que você irá acabar com quase toda forma de vida existente no planeta, mas isto não é problema, certo?

- Torne-se um cientista maluco, volte no tempo e mate toda humanidade. Teoricamente, reduzirá a emissão de gases estufas e assim o planeta ficará mais frio. O problema é que se você exterminar toda humanidade, provavelmente você não existirá no presente para voltar ao passado, criando uma baita confusão temporal. Ei, mas melhor isso que o calor, não é mesmo?

- Cubra o planeta com uma cúpula de vidro gigante, e compre um ar condicionado para resfriar tudo. Conseqüências ambientais? Pra que se preocupar com esses detalhes?

- Crie uma campanha na Internet para abrir todas as geladeiras do mundo em um determinado dia e horário. O frio vai escapar e a temperatura mundial irá cair alguns graus! Claro, existe a possibilidade de que esse ato acabe destruindo a camada de ozônio e causando o efeito inverso do desejado originalmente… Mas vamos lá, quem está na chuva vai se molhar de qualquer jeito!

The human species needs a dramatic change in its ways, the separation, the borders, the politics, the religions, all needs to be gone. Our very existence is amazingly unusual in the universe and we must not spend valuable time on issues that ultimately might lead to our destruction.

Looking back into history, there is only one reason for all wars, no matter how big or how small. It has always been the same from probably the moment the very first human fought the second to the First World War, down to the USA invading Iraq, all wars and quarrels were over a matter of simple control.

Control has had many different forms in our history, for example, the Roman Empire, which saw control in territory and the dominating of other peoples with its military, or Adolf Hitler, in search of his White Power, in a purist control, the Cold War, military control. Think of all the conflicts in the Middle East, shootings over borders, fighting over oil. ALL of those in search of control over some kind of thing.

Aside the dominance trait inherited by most male complex creatures, power has been that one thing for which most major conflicts since the industrial revolution, or maybe even further, were fought.

In the early days of mankind, any conflicts must have been for either farming or hunting grounds, in which civilization eventually formed, with technology at its beginning, more people meant more grounds in which to find or grow food. This pattern was more or less followed throughout history until more elaborate agriculture techniques came to be.

If the basic need for food is provided, mankind can survive, however, the search for ever growing amounts of control has taken us in a surch for its ultimate form: energy.

Society has extracted energy from nature since its dawn, either in the form of heat, electricity or explosions, energy is our most necessary commodity, our ultimate need. Humanity fights over energy, that would not happen if there was enough cheap power for all.

During the Second World War, Albert Einstein hypothesised that matter was made of energy. His Relativity Theory combined with others’ works made it possible for civilization to extract the energy not from objects, but from matter itself.

The power within atoms is incredible; however we can only use a very small portion of it to produce energy. The highly inefficient process that takes place in nuclear reactors around the world does not use the energy from the atom directly but a transformed form of the energy produced through nuclear decay.

Another way to use the power of nuclear reactions is the Sun. It gives the planet energy from fission for free in the form of heat and light, which allows for photosynthesis and is therefore responsible for life in this planet. All our power sources with the exception of geodesic heat come indirectly from the Sun. The power of the nucleus gives us life.

If the incredible amount of power in the nucleus can be harnessed through means more effective than those of a nuclear reactor, we would make war obsolete. With free power all but manual labor would have to be priced, factories would not pay the state for power, we would not waste areas in which food can be grown to dam rivers for power plants, fields can be digital now, our technology allows it. If there is energy for all, electronic goods would be cheaper, connectivity would be cheaper, we would not need to pay to learn, to share, to connect, to finally evolve.

With access to comprehensive information through our already established Internet, literacy rates go up and society is able to contribute and create as a whole. Continuing to waste money in war over non-renewable forms of energy will only make our short reserves burn out faster, but it will ultimately lead to extinction.

For now, we can maintain ourselves that way, but we will not be able to do that for much longer. If we could all live in peace, resources would be relocated to where they are needed, not only to look for this form of energy, but all kinds of research, all kinds of development, free power would redefine classes, it would redefine society.

We can continue to waste resources on fighting, or we can share, we can talk, we can improve science, we can improve life, we can improve humanity.

This manifest is not about a new energy form, it is about the search for it. Humanity has found its goal, its ultimate need. We need energy to evolve, we need energy to grow. The revolution here would not benefit one society, or governments or any movements, it would benefit us, the human species.

What is proposed here is an alternative: even though we are different, black, white, Asian, Middle Eastern, Latino, or Pagans, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, we are here together, one planet into a space we do not even understand.

Even creationists believe we have been created one: Sons of the same. The alternative here involves a leap of faith, abandoning all war now, putting down arms and joining in search of one common goal, to have more time. More time also to perpetuate and refine religious beliefs.

Human race evolved, differentiated, we have developed thought, abstraction. Our next step in evolution might be not as a new individual, but as a society: from one, to camp, to village, to city, to country, to planet. One complex species sharing a home we are at peace with.Violence has always been useless.

Pois é, eu prefiro o frio.

Odeio ficar rolando durante metade da noite pra tentar encontrar uma posição na qual o suor (que fica pingando, pingando e pingando) não incomode tanto. E odeio ficar na paranóia de acabar sendo abduzido por algum pernilongo maniaco no meio do sono. Odeio transporte publico lotado, abafado e cheio de pessoas fedendo depois de um dia cansativo de trabalho.

“Pare de ser chato, vá para uma praia e aproveite!” – Alguém pode dizer. Mas não sou o maior fã de praias e similares. Então, este aspecto do calor é “Meh” para mim. Além disso, não dá pra viver na praia.

Falando em praias… Ah sim, metade da população mundial (A metade que tem um cromossomo Y) pode argumentar que o calor tem uma vantagem. As mulheres usam menos roupas. Mas vamos ser sincero, quem quer ver mulher com pouca roupa não precisa do calor para isso, existem muitos outros recursos. E mesmo nesse calor, existe um certo limite de quanto de roupa será reduzido. Por mais calor que esteja, não dá pra mim sair por ai pelado (Até dá, mas não pretendo ser preso, e muito menos causar pesadelos em ninguém). Quando está frio, basta colocar um pouco mais de roupa e beleza, tá tudo bem agora.

Eu gosto de ficar debaixo do cobertor, folgado. Dormir até tarde. Apreciar minhas refeições quentinhas… Passar um pouco de frio, tremer um pouco.

E o calor não me deixa fazer nada disso. Maldito!!!

It happened. I turned 42. Phew. I am now on the other side…really. 40 was a shock. 41 a dull thud. 42 is an awakening. An acceptance. This is who I am. This is where I am going (even if I’m not sure where that is, I know it involves getting older and accepting that, whether with ease, or uneasily).

I feel all sorts of contradictory feelings. Conflicting thoughts. But not the kind that war in the mind; just those that slosh around feeling the edges of consciousness looking for a place to settle, a zone to organize themselves in. Right now it seems they are searching for their cubbyholes, hideouts and enclaves. Trying to integrate themselves into all I have known before.

The newness of it all is a blessing. I chose to turn the corner and face myself head on. I make a concrete decision to wake up and stay awake; more than ever. To see and experience life more, in a more immediate way, a deeper way, and endeavor to make use of the present. Not to disown or deny the past, but to use the years as stepping stones that have all led me to the place I am right now. This unfolding trail has no markers. The breadcrumbs of my childhood are gone; there’s no way back, only forward. Hansel & Gretel have left the forest.

I’m going to see what’s out there. Beyond the house of my father and mother. Beyond the house of the witch. I am bound for elsewhere. I’m my own hero.

I missed 2 days on NaBloPoMo because my parents decided to come down for an impromptu visit. Grandchildren do this. I logged on for the first time in a couple of days to find something that sucked even more harshly:

2. That Anissa Mayhew had a massive stroke on Tuesday afternoon

Anissa’s blog is #FreeAnissa. She’s also the mastermind behind Aiming Low – a site that reminds us not to be perfectionists; that sometimes, good enough, is good enough.

I have not met Anissa, but she is one of those people who I tweet with, and I read her sites. And she has been through so much: a previous stroke, a daughter who has beaten cancer. She is the kind of person I’d like to have a bottle of wine with and just listen to her tales. Everywhere, there are posts saying how kind, charming and funny she is. How good of a mother she is to her 3 young children.

But mostly kind.

And the fact that she is a Battlestar Galactica fan helps to make her one of the bloggers I’d most like to meet.

I don’t do prayers in an organized religion sense, but she has been in my thoughts since I found out. And there is some evidence that prayer circles work.

So let’s all pray or at least think good thoughts for Anissa making a full recovery.
