Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, O2 and others face one and the same threat as mobile phones become more

Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, O2 and others face one and the same threat as mobile phones become more powerful, cheaper per unit produced, and wireless networks (EDGE, 2G, 3G, (4G/LTE)) improving towards universal world-wide coverage. And the earthquake for existing businesses comes again from Google.

Apple (iPhone) said no to Google Voice, because they had a fiduciary responsibility towards its carrier who subsidises the iPhone 3G and 3GS at a huge price. Which they make up with pricey subscriptions. I use already Skype on Android when I call abroad or for longer calls in general. The threat (um, tsunami) for carriers is, that the Googlephone (GPhone) will handle its calls though 3G/2G as network and associated Google Voice only. The coming revolution that everything will go though the ‘Pipe’ in and out, should cause them having bad dreams.

For existing mobile phone carriers and their traditional business, counting calls by minutes, Google is a disruptor. And Google is moving fast. They (Google’s Eric Schmidt) said for years (publicly in interviews and speaking events) that the phone is the first device for people in developing countries, experiencing the internet (& Google). When a CEO is speaking so candidly about a thing, shouldn’t you pay attention? No, because according to the business textbooks, you should pay attention to big existing companies who are already competing in the same market as you. Verizon vs. AT&T vs. T-Mobile. Small companies can move quick and fast, but have it hard to gain traction. Guess what, Google is big and everywhere, but still moves considerably fast, is agile, and gets traction fast because it is everywhere. Now Google will use its operational size, employees smarts and brand name to come in as disruptor to the mobile phone business. What they need is just ONE carrier who give them access to their network only. Deal done for the coming revolution. I see especially China and India and other developing countries, who are building their cellular network, the most interesting target for Google, they could buy a stake into one of the many small phone carriers (compared to Verizon or AT&T) and support with quick and cheap cash the undergoing construction of networks, thus that their grand plan for the GooglePhone/GPhone can be realized. Carriers here in Europe or America won’t cannibalize their own business for sure. Google, again, is solving a customer problem with high impact. Something they are always aiming for when using their resources to develop products.

Second thought on this, my projection. In two to three years, when counting by minutes is dead, when counting by megabytes is norm (like now with the ‘internet’), Comcast and other broadband providers are competing for the same customers as AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, O2 et cetera. When they realize they can’t compete against the trend. Broadband providers have the land-line infrastructure, what they just need are the radio towers to distribute the signal through the air. My word, they will compete for the same customer. When the US economy up-ticks (should) again, we will see some big provider doing M&A, they will throw in the word synergy to make it tasty for shareholders, and employees will lose their jobs as usual. Speaking on the phone, having a conversation on the phone – will move onto the ‘Pipe’, and there is nothing you can do about it. It’s Economics again, technology, cost and leverage.

For us the consumer, it becomes cheaper to communicate. Existing businesses and associated businesses will change eventually. Mobile phone manufacturers will be doing business like any other PC/Laptop manufacturer. Developing a compelling product consumers want to buy. Consumers then are free to choose which network they want to use. Over will be the days that we can have only an Apple phone when we are willing to join AT&T’s world as well. Over are the days of subsidies. Yes, we may have to pay $150-$300 for a brand new phone, but it will be your main communicator for the future on the road, a very powerful one. It is called convergence (see computing and technology).

There were people from Time Warner on motorized sooners with laptops on them for people to try out the new Road Runner Moblie 4G Network. It’s like from the cell phone company’s where you get internet from them and you just hook-up a USB and there you go with the internet, and now it’s from the cable company. There is going to be an event on December 9th at the House of Blues from 6-10 where you can test drive the system with your own laptop, concerts, and a chance to meet Danica Patrick.

With the Sprint-Nextel merger reportedly off the table, Deutsche Telekom (DT), T-Mobile U.S. parent

With the Sprint-Nextel merger reportedly off the table, Deutsche Telekom (DT), T-Mobile U.S. parent company is seeking partners to help finance its network expansion. T-Mobile is building out its 3G network with plans to upgrade its network to HSPA+ to handle the burgeoning growth in mobile data.

The German telecom giant is reporting looking at AT&T Mobility, Clearwire, and MetroPCS as possible partners – at first blush, the obvious choice is AT&T as both have the same GSM technology and seem to be migrating to 4G along the same path. On the flip side, both Clearwire and Metro PCS are potential partners due to significant spectrum holdings; technology issues may preclude the latter 2 as Clearwire is using WiMAX and MetroPCS CDMA which aren’t compatible with T-Mobile’s GSM/EDGE/HSPA+ network infrastructure. The view that DT may be using Clearwire and MetroPCS spectrum to build out it’s 4G network and it’s deep pockets may just make this a reality.

All of this comes on the heels of Q3 results showing T-Mobile further losing ground to Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint, with their struggles more apparent with losing 77,000 subscribers in the quarter; DT isn’t known for sitting idly by while they lose market share, so expect something to transpire soon.

T-Mobile is banking on new, low-cost, unlimited plans plus new Android smartphones such as the Motorola Cliq to stem the losses; will it be enough to get them competitive with the other, much larger competitors?

When it comes to technology, we can and have come to expect new innovations almost every week. Imagi

When it comes to technology, we can and have come to expect new innovations almost every week. Imagine the mind clear and bright and come with modern miracle few had ever. Inventions will surprise and amaze. Often, however, many of us are so used that technology is available and we can not imagine that he could improve significantly, and in a short time. The mobile phone of the early eighties, as you recall in May, looks nothing like the elegant, large sip from time to time we had cell phones were phones style quite enormous. The Internet, too, was once a mystic, just laughed out loud what you choose and waiting to connect, regardless slow. The Internet dial-up, which is not really that old at all, takes place once common. It was the thing, and people with joy when they could finally be connected and a virtual who drove a mail in their inbox. Today there is scarcely a moment we are not connected. It’s a simple fact of life.
We’re always. That’s probably why it is so difficult really can change until it is firmly rooted in our lives and we do not mind even when things are not as that they are today.

This is the novelty of telephony and new wireless standards such as 4G. For those who are not familiar with this technology, 4G is easy, what’s next in communications. It is the fourth generation of telecommunications standards and rules, which is its fundamental objective is to become bigger, better and faster than what was before him. Currently, people complain about low speeds, especially if they transmit data, they jerk about dropped calls and spotty connections. She grimaced when the service is overloaded or if they have wandered into some strange dead zone is that the lack of connection, although in the middle of the city.

And yet we take these issues were given. We expect them. We know they are doing and come and for all of our trenches, we can not really expect perfection, at least not for long. But is Falling Into Place, this sentence exactly why wait if improvements are made to take people by surprise. While often provides telecommunications companies worldwide and more, and they can not the obligation, 4G, but the bar significantly. It is better that expected and more. In fact, this is what you waited for the people, without knowing it.

4G promises faster Internet
Connectivity, it is even larger, it opens the door to WiMAX, a new and improved net wireless mobile Internet services to be with WiMax clients in the situation will be certified to buy something and WiMax have instant Internet access, and they will all have access to the Internet – in the city, outside the city, on the street and beyond. 4G and WiMax are here to change the world. They will bring us together.

Oh wireless internet…3G and 4G alike…it all means the same to me. I have no idea of the differences between the father-son duo…all I know is that its;whatever “it” is, “better”, somehow. But there is the “how” , alike; sitting on the same shelf as “what”, and the omnipresent “why”. Why I ask throw me information in Latin(or it may as well be) about the 3g/4g phones/network? And I speak for the everyday community when I say what exactly does this mean again? Well, its quite simple, actually; 3G and 4G only refer to speeds…speeds at which the rate of information travels. Oh Great Verizon and AT&T, couldn’t you just say “faster” or “better” and leave the “geek speak” to the geeks who created the network…while CEO’s make all the money I might add. It’s like Herpes…it’s everywhere.Technology isn’t adapting to humans, humans are adapting to technology…BAD!!!!!! Throwing around words like “bandwith” ,”T-1″ and “megabits” to me would be like me tossing the phrase “free file sharing” to Lars Ulrich…he and I will be dumbfounded just the same (Metallica fans get it). Every time I turn on Sponge Bob(for myself, I might add) I’m bombarded with “Get the nation’s fastest 3G network!” and I’m completely turned off by it… I don’t enjoy having to Google on my iPhone for what 3G and 4G mean…it always says “Hey dumbass…you’re holding it!!!” Okay; I confess, I made that last part up…the whole iPhone and what-not…but it speaks all the same G(r)eek to me.

What’s in for 2009? Technology merging, and slimming. Laptops are getting smaller, Cellphones

What’s in for 2009?

Technology merging, and slimming. Laptops are getting smaller, Cellphones are getting bigger, cellphones all have media players, and soon digital cameras that can replace your thin normal digital camera that coudn’t even geotag pictures anyway. And you don’t want to carry your Digital SLR camera with you all the time do you? All in one technology packages is a winner. SE Satio is multimedia king and digital photo, Iphone and Hero is kings of the surf, soon one device will rule them all.

Spootify: For the home computer it is your own radio broadcast with a fraction of the ads of radio, at premium you get all music and can play it on your android/iphone cellular phone. With Offline playlists and a search and popularity function it’s pretty much going to replace filesharing that demands more work and time for browsing and organizing. So whats negative? Well no red hot chili peppers and alot of artists keep removing their songs, lack of payment? Probably.

Google Wave: Realtime communication is here to stay if you are serious about chatting/working/planning/collaborating/teaching with one or many. Ever tried a group conversation on MSNM?

Android and Iphone: Cellphones with smart intuive, on the go operating systems streamlined and designed by yourself and not by a company, hot!

LED TVs and OLED cellphones: Beuty in a slimversion, touchscreen too? I’m in!

Peerialism: Online storage free, if you have a extra harddrive that is, fast access and no worries about ever loosing data to a dead harddrive.

4G: Så klart! Wireless communication designed for media and not the other way around.

Voddler: AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH… ME want now!!!!

So what’s out?

Home telephone: What’s that.

Broadcast television: Oh please. Webtv shall suffice for now and complement Voddler.

Downloading and uploading: Streaming is for the win really, I know having the biggest harddrive of your buds is fun and something to brag about but we are passed that point now.

Cellphones that don’t surf. IT age means information technology people. And information is where Google can swiftly be queried.

Copyrights: 90 years for a copy right? Please! Copy rights is starting to cause more troubles than it’s worth and it’s all in vain. Shutting down the sites, or the ISP to the sites or the ISPs to the ISP nope not going to work. ACTA? No way, Hadopi well that will not work soon anyway with the telecom package, if just the commitee can agree atlast.

Nov 13, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX)

Clearwire announced that it has executed a definitive agreement to raise $1.564 billion in new investment capital from Sprint Nextel, Comcast, Time Warner Cable Inc., Intel, Eagle River Holdings and Bright House Networks in exchange for newly issued shares priced at $7.33 per share.

“This additional level of strategic funding marks another important milestone in the progress of Clearwire, and will enable us to maintain our leadership and aggressive 4G WiMAX network build plans,” said Bill Morrow, CEO of Clearwire. “Today’s news is also further validation of the importance of our 4G network to our strategic investors. We all benefit from this robust, all-IP, high-bandwidth network that delivers an unmatched combination of Internet speed and mobility.”

Morrow said, “While we are very pleased to have every one of our investors, we are particularly pleased and honored that Sprint Nextel, Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Intel, Eagle River and Bright House Networks have decided to provide this additional round of strategic financing. Together, we share a common vision of providing consumers and businesses with a new category of Internet service capable of meeting the growing demand for mobile data.”

Participants in the new round of equity financing include Sprint Nextel for $1.176 billion, Comcast for $196 million, Time Warner Cable for $103 million, Intel for $50 million, Eagle River for $20 million and Bright House Networks for $19 million. Closing of the equity financing is subject to certain closing conditions, including, with respect to a portion of the financing, the lapsing of the time period required under applicable law for the effectiveness of the stockholder written consent approving the transactions, which has been executed. Clearwire will receive approximately $1.057 billion in cash from the equity financing within five business days, $440 million in cash will be funded at a closing which is targeted to be completed by year end 2009, and the remaining $66 million will be funded at a closing which is targeted to be completed during first quarter 2010.

The investors in the financing round will receive newly issued Class B Units/Class B Shares, which will maintain pass through tax treatment for their investments. Newly issued Class B Units/Class B Shares will have the same economic and voting rights as existing Class B Units/Class B Shares and equivalent voting rights as existing Class A Common Stock.

Clearwire also announced plans to launch an offering for a minimum of $1.45 billion in new Senior Secured Notes with net proceeds to be used to pay off the company’s existing $1.40 billion credit facility. The Senior Secured Notes will be offered to qualified institutional buyers pursuant to Rule 144A under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended (the “Securities Act”), and to non-U.S. persons in accordance with Regulation S under the Securities Act.

Sprint Nextel and Comcast, which are debt investors under Clearwire’s existing facility, have agreed to receive replacement debt on the same terms as the new offering, effectively allowing Clearwire to raise an additional $240 million in capital assuming the new notes offering is fully subscribed. Although specific terms are still to be finalized, the new debt offering is intended to better several of the Company’s existing credit terms by extending maturity and establishing a fixed interest rate. In addition, with an improved capital structure the Company expects to expand its future borrowing capacity.
