A couple of days ago, my laptop died. It was very unfortunate and I dreaded for what to do next. It was time to call customer service.

We all know it’s a pain, and both you and the company don’t like it when a product isn’t working as intended. I’m one of those people that need to do things A.S.A.P. or I will never get around to it. So I called them the following day. Issues arose as the laptop isn’t bought in my country, but abroad. It ends with they sending an email to me, where I fill in what specs the laptop has, and then send the email back. Fast and easy. Or that was what I thought. A week goes by and nothing happens. I’m expecting a note by snailmail which I stick to my laptop box so I don’t have to pay for the package to send it to their repairman.
A few more days go by and I call again, in which the customer service person says “Hold please, I’ll be right back”. I waited for 30 minutes before I hung up. I call them again, same procedure happens, I fill in an email, send it back, and wait 5 more days.

Nothing. Nada. Zero.

By this time I’m pretty upset and wish they’d all go to hell. I was fully prepared to yell at the first person picking up the phone when I called again.
“Hello, you’re speaking with Caroline, how can I help you?”
Okay, just for your information, dear reader, according to my principles it’s wrong to scream at girls. I know in today’s day and age, both genders should be considered equal and I should yell all I want to my heart’s content, but it just feels wrong to do that. I guess it’s condescending but hey, I can’t help it, it’s how I was raised – don’t be mean to girls.
So at this point I’m kinda at a loss and I stutter a meek “H-hello”, while in the meanwhile trying to convert all the yelling in my head to sensible, well-structured sentences. After describing my problem while at the same time mentioning I’ve called several times before and my patience is running out, she asks for my address and email. She promises it will show up with snailmail within 2 days and if any problems appear, she will contact me.

Only time will tell.

UPDATE: Women are evil liars. Men also for that matter. In fact, both men and women lie a lot. I called the customer service again and this time a very helpful woman answered (so I couldn’t yell – again), but I’ve gotten the sticker now. A month later. I will mention the company name because I find this unacceptable, especially when they’ve repeatedly said that something will arrive at a certain time but it never did.

So here goes, DON’T BUY STUFF FROM ACER.

ACER, ACER, ACER = BAD, BAD, BAD.

I’ve been looking for a replacement for my desktop for a couple of weeks now. What with moving house, I’m looking to reduce some of the clutter I normally have to drag around with me. So part one of that exercise is ditching the big black behemoth and getting a nice tidy little notebook which can sit neatly on my lap.

Although I don’t do a great deal of gaming via PC’s any more, it would be nice to have the option of diving into the odd game (Spore for example) so it’s gotta have a semi decent GFX card in there – although nothing too hefty as I don’t fancy paying top dollar for a gaming laptop that’ll be well out of date 3 months later.

At the top of my shopping list is the Acer Aspire 6920G. It’s got a Geforce 9500M in it, 2Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4Gb RAM and 250Gb HDD – if I paid a little more I could even have BlueRay in it! Problem is, I’m having a bit of aggro getting my hands on one via our work’s suppliers. They’re all insisting it’s not a current model. ARGH! Instead I’m being offered the same laptop, but with a ATI HD3450 in it and 3Gb or RAM. Hmmm.. the search continues!
