Swan Valley winemakers have vowed to boycott the coming Spring in the Valley festival, saying the two-day event has become too unruly and overcrowded.

Little River Winery and John Kosovich Wines said they would have nothing to do with the popular festival when it was staged on October 10 and 11 because it was a “debauch”. Other wineries said they would hold their own separate events to coincide with its running.

It comes as the Swan Valley Tourism Council, which organises the event, confirmed it would introduce a $5 entry fee for the first time in the festival’s history. The fee will apply to all people attending the event, with 40 per cent of proceeds to go to Ticketmaster and the rest to the council. With as many as 70,000 people expected to attend, the fee could net the council $200,000. Swan Valley Tourism Council executive officer Geraldine Riggir said patrons would need to show their tickets at all participating venues.

The cost of the ticket will not entitle patrons to entry into all venues, with many set to charge their own admission prices. Ms Riggir said the council’s $5 fee would help cover the cost of staging the event, while it would also allow organisers to better manage crowds. She defended the festival in the face of criticism from some Swan Valley businesses, arguing it was the best way of showcasing local products to a broad market.

“It’s not a terrible festival, it’s a fantastic festival,” she said. “It’s just a small element of it that is a problem. All the valley is trying to do is showcase the region and what it has to offer.”

Upper Reach Winery owner Laura Pearse said she would sell a limited number of tickets privately to ensure crowd numbers were kept under control. She backed the festival as a going concern, saying it was predominantly a “lovely day out”. But Little River Winery owner Jan de Tastes said she would close her winery in protest because she no longer felt the festival represented the best interests of producers in the valley.

“If it was a quality festival you could be proud of it but at the moment you’ve got the drunkenness taking over to such as degree that the whole thing is a debauch,” she said.

Mrs de Tastes threatened to sue the council and event sponsors if anything happened to her winery during the event.

70,000 jobs lost in one week in the UK and the US. (Wonder how much of that was each country?)  Why do I feel like I’m fighting a losing battle and might be better off by paying for the transformer that will make my US sewing machine usable over here in a clothing repair and alteration business?

I have made some progress, though. I’ve got a second interview (which will actually happen before the “first”, but almost certainly won’t result in a job any sooner. This one’s for a job as a teacher’s aid or some such because my Ph.D. is not good enough for teaching high school. In addition, to have a job that involves any contact at all with children, I have to pass an “Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau check” which will cost me about £40. All this at a time when there are stories in the papers about how they are begging for science and math teachers and I have been tutoring kids from the best schools in town. All are agreed that it doesn’t make sense, and all but me are resigned to it remaining that way.

There’s one thing I don’t like much about the English.  They are quite vocal about some of the things about their country that don’t make sense, but they don’t demand any changes. A good number of them seem to have given up any idea of making the government do their will. They have no personal opinions on which way is the best, conservative or liberal. However, you could say that they vote a straight ticket, against whichever party is in at the moment.

I just got off the phone with someone who would like to learn one of my antequated skills, hand embroidery. It reminded me of how I had found that hand embroidery was a rare skill in the area of textile design. There were houses that were willing to take me on as a freelancer when I first got to England, just as they had in New York when I first got out of school. Perhaps I should try again to market those skills.

I’m rambling, I know. And nobody really wants to read these jobhunting blogs, but the news today set me off. One last thing. I finally found a business I want to target in a speculative application. It’s a product design business, which fits nicely with my science/publishing/design background, don’t you think?

Di masa lalu, jalur antara Tjibatu ke Garut hingga Tjikadjang merupakan salah satu jalur yang cukup banyak memiliki penumpang. Jalur ini juga merupakan jalur tertinggi di yang ada di Indonesia. Di beberapa daerah tertentu, sebuah rangkaian kereta api kadang harus dihela oleh dua buah lokomotif yang hidup secara bersamaan. Biasanya kondisi ini terjadi di jalur-jalur kereta api dengan jalan yang menanjak, sehingga diperlukan bantuan sebuah lokomotif untuk dapat membawa rangkaian.

Sorry for lite blogging i det siste, men har vært alt for fint vær til å sitte på pc’en å blogge, så har heller tilbringt dagene på stranden, med opptil 28 grader i vannet. Herlig.

Dagen idag har jeg brukt til å se på Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s site kamp med Manchester United mot det spanske serielaget Espanyol. Planen var å dra til Manchester og Old Trafford å se kampen idag, men gikk litt skeis da jeg dro til Slovenia så det ble det ikke noe av, hadde bestilt turen og greier, men neida. Var spesiellt å se kampen idag, iogmed at jeg har levd med Manchester United og Solskjær i 17 år. Det var skikkelig rørende å se 20Legend komme inn med Noah og Karna før kampen begynte, jeg hadde frysninger nedover hele ryggen og armene, og tankene som kom opp var “tenk DER kunne jeg ha sittet nå!” , og tro meg, jeg angrer.

70 000 Manchester United-fans reiste seg og applauderte Ole Gunnar Solskjær da han kom inn som superreserve for siste gang på Old Trafford.
Det var spesiellt å se Ole Gunnar komme inn som innbytter i det 68′ende minuttet. Hadde håpet at han skulle spille mer enn 20 minutter, men skjønner han siden han har kneskade. Det var nervepirrende minutter da han kom inn, å litt tårer i øynene. Han var på nære nippet å score 2 ganger og at det var hans aller siste kamp på fotballbanen. Han hadde ønsket at United tok hjemmeseier siden det var hans siste kamp og at spillerne ga 100% fra begynnelse til slutt, og han fikk det han ville. Jeg vil anta at det her er den mest spesielle fotballkampen jeg har sett, og det kommer til å ta lang tid før jeg glemmer den.

Un sujeto vivió en una casa de Ogden, Utah durante ocho años y el casero pensó que era el mejor inquilino que había tenido pues nunca llamó, no se quejaba de nada y siempre pagaba la renta a tiempo.

Las fotos que se muestran aquí ni siquiera se acercan a lo que había originalmente, pues la compañía que se hizo cargo de administrar el inmueble ´había ya removido muchas de las latas.

Eran tantas las latas de cerveza que el individuo excavó túneles para ir a las diferentes habitaciones de la casa.

Sin embargo, el resto de la casa estaba en buenas condiciones, limpio y sin un solo plato sucio. El hombre, además del evidente problema con la bebida que tenía, era muy limpio y organizado, y seguramente le preocupaba su salud, pues sólo bebía cerveza light.

Heute musste ich mich richtig aufraffen, um an der Sitzung teilzunehmen. Nicht, dass die Motivation nachgelassen hätte…vor allem lag es am Wetter, Wetter, Wetter! Regen, Kälte und meine gemütlich warme Wohnung stellten sich mir in den Weg.

Zum Glück hatte Herr Kumru mich vormittags noch einmal angerufen, um zu fragen, ob ich seine Einladungsmail erhalten hätte und ob ich denn komme. Da ich leichtsinnig zugesagt hatte, konnte ich mich meinen Gelüsten nach Wärme und Bequemlichkeit nicht hingeben.

Die zweite Sitzung wurde aus Platzgründen im Duisburger Rathaus abgehalten. Dieses mal waren vier ReferentInnen anwesend, die von ihrer praktischen Arbeit berichteten und auch von den Gesetzesvorlagen erzählten, auf denen ihre Arbeit basiert.

Bevor es losging, mussten sich alle Anwesenden noch einmal vorstellen. Ich hoffe, dass dieser Teil beim nächsten Mal wegfällt, da die Runde immer größer wird und ich auch keine Lust mehr habe mich immer wieder zu erklären. Dieses Mal hat es sich aber noch gelohnt, da doch einige neu waren.

Unser Kreis hat sich also vergrößert, was nur sinnvoll ist, da es einen immensen Bedarf an Lotsen zu geben scheint. Über 1000 Menschen pro Jahr reisen in Duisburg ein und wollen hier einen neuen Anfang wagen. Häufig sind es auch Personen, die Eheleute hier haben.

Bei den ehrenamtlichen Lotsen gibt es noch weitere deutsch stämmige, nicht nur neu dazugekommene von heute Abend, sondern auch noch welche, die ich beim letzten Mal vergessen hatte!! Mein Gedächtnis scheint nicht mehr das verlässlichste zu sein.

Über die anderen Lotsen werde ich sicher im Verlauf des Blogs noch Gelegenheit haben zu schreiben. Vieleicht wird sich sogar die Gelegenheit ergeben, einmal mit jemandem hier zu berichten.

Für mich ist heute deutlicher geworden, was ich machen möchte! Ich würde gern Gesprächskreise begleiten, bei denen deutsch sprechen geübt werden soll. Also Treffen, bei denen über verschiedenste Themen in deutscher Sprache geredet wird. So erhalten die Personen, die Integrationskurse machen, mehr Praxis als nur beim Sprachkurs.

Dann würde ich gerne Ausflüge organisieren, die den neuen Duisburgern die Stadt näher bringen. Duisburg ist nicht die schönste aller Städte, kann aber zu einer freundlichen Heimat werden, wenn man weiß, wo sich was unternehmen und erleben lässt.

Vielleicht ergibt es sich ja, dass ich mal mit ein paar Leuten kochen kann. Das würde sich besonders eignen für meine kulinarischen Ansprüche, die ich an das Projekt stelle .

Kurz noch mal ne Zahl: In Duisburg werden z.Z. 150! Integrationskurse der unterschiedlichsten Art angeboten. Das ist ne ziemlich hohe Anzahl. Es gibt keine vergleichbar große Stadt, die so viele Kurse anbietet. Trotzdem ist der Bedarf noch nicht gedeckt. Die Duisburger Ausländerbehörde betreut 70.000 Einwohner und Personen, die es werden wollen!

Für mich hat es sich schon jetzt gelohnt dabei zu sein, denn so erfährt man ne Menge darüber, was in der Stadt so los ist.
