HP—Apparently, the latest thing in “Debasing The Institutions You Pretend To Hold Dear In Order To Suggest That President Barack Obama Should Be Murdered Without Actually Coming Right Out And Saying So” goes by a shorter name: Psalm 109:8.

And Psalm 109:8 is just straight up memetastic, appearing on bumper stickers and T-shirts, all of which carry the benign sounding message, “Pray For Obama.” But, as Gawker’s John Cook points out, this is just one more in a “long line of cheekily coded Obama death threats.” The verse in question reads: “May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership.” That leads fairly naturally into the Psalm 109:9, “May his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.” You know, in case you miss the point.

Rachel Maddow took up this issue last night, inviting Patience With God author and Huffington Post blogger Frank Schaeffer to explain whether or not the citation of this Biblical text “means something less threatening to people hearing this in a Biblical context.”

Yesterday, Cafe Press announced that it was again reversing itself and removing all the merchandise in response to strong public pressure:

The public debate started with questioning if the design was simply intended to be criticism of the President or something much worse. The discourse was surprisingly civil online, given the heated nature of the topic. Given that, and the positions of groups like the ACLU and the Anti-Defamation League, we decided to let the dialogue play out publicly before making a final decision.

Last night we posted a poll on our blog, read through the emails we’ve received and weighed the nature of the calls we’ve received on the topic. In the process we also learned that many of the original designers of the Psalm 109:8 designs had already decided to remove them on their own.

General consensus has proven that the design does point to a broader interpretation of the Psalm and thus has been deemed inappropriate for sale at CafePress.

The results of the Cafe Press poll were 76 percent calling the slogan “overly inflammatory and inappropriate” and 22 percent saying it was fair.

Há algum tempo escrevi um texto “O que seria o seu dia-a-dia sem a metrologia?”. Ao levantar e tomar o seu banho, escovar os dentes, a água consumida é medida pelo hidrômetro, que registra quantos m³ de água foram consumidos. Se ele tiver desregulado, seu dinheiro vai por água abaixo. Ao parar o táxi para ir ao trabalho, um medidor de comprimento e tempo, o taxímetro, vai medir a distância percorrida e calcular o valor da corrida. Se tiver descalibrado, …

No fundo, quase tudo o que se compra é medido. E como saber se as medições estão sendo realizadas corretamente? Quem garante que o pacote de arroz de 5 kg tem cinco quilogramas? Quem controla a qualidade das medições realizadas pelas balanças, taxímetros, bombas medidoras de combustível e tantos outros instrumentos usados para medir os produtos que são consumidos? As medições que envolvem transações comerciais, bem como aquelas que envolvem a saúde e a segurança dos cidadãos, são reguladas pela metrologia legal. Nesse sentido, ela é um conjunto de normas e regulamentos técnicos que devem ser obedecidos compulsoriamente (adoção obrigatória) por todos aqueles que comercializam produtos ou serviços mediante algum tipo de medição, ou que fabricam instrumentos de medição voltados para esse fim, sob pena de sofrerem algum tipo de sanção administrativa.

Importante é saber que medir é uma atividade mais corriqueira do que parece. Ao olhar no relógio, vê-se no mostrador o resultado de uma medição de tempo. Ao se medir a pressão arterial no médico ou na farmácia, comprar um quilograma de carne no açougue ou abastecer o carro no posto de gasolina, presenciam-se medições. Mas o que é uma medição?

Existe uma imensa variedade de coisas diferentes que podem ser medidas sob vários aspectos. Imagine uma lata de óleo. Pode-se medir a sua altura, pode medir quanto ela pesa e pode medir quanto liquido ela pode comportar. Cada um desses aspectos (comprimento, massa, volume) implica numa grandeza física diferente. Medir é comparar uma grandeza com uma outra, de mesma natureza, tomada como padrão. Medição é, portanto, o conjunto de operações que tem por objetivo determinar o valor de uma grandeza.

Consequentemente, o conceito de grandeza é fundamental para se efetuar qualquer medição. Grandeza pode ser definida como sendo o atributo físico de um corpo que pode ser qualitativamente distinguido e quantitativamente determinado. Por exemplo, a altura de uma lata de óleo é um dos atributos desse corpo, definido pela grandeza comprimento, que é qualitativamente distinto de outros atributos (diferente de massa) e quantitativamente determinável (pode ser expresso por um número). Enfim, desde que se levanta até a hora de dormir, as pessoas convivem com a metrologia, ou não?

A definição formal de metrologia, palavra de origem grega (metron: medida; logos: ciência), e de outros termos gerais pode ser encontrada no Vocabulário Internacional de Termos Fundamentais e Gerais de Metrologia (VIM). O resultado de uma medição é, em geral, uma estimativa do valor do objeto da medição. Desta forma a apresentação do resultado é completa somente quando acompanhado por uma quantidade que declara sua incerteza, ou seja, a dúvida ainda existente no processo de medição. Do ponto de vista técnico, quando realizamos uma medição esperamos que ela tenha exatidão (mais próxima do valor verdadeiro) e que apresente as características de repetitividade (concordância entre os resultados de medições sucessivas efetuadas sob as mesmas condições) e reprodutibilidade (concordância entre os resultados das medições efetuadas sob condições variadas).

So my last post was a little confusing for some, and I had hoped to update people on what I’m working towards and my plan to change the world but that will have to wait. These past couple weeks have been crazy and I would like to let people know what has happened in our lives. So…over the past week we’ve:

-Received so much food from our church that we don’t know where to put it all

-Printed out over 50 newsletters and got them in the mail

-Booked 2 churches

-Had leftovers from our church’s Thanksgiving lunch on Sunday and have been invited to two houses for dinner this week, leaving us to not have to cook at   all for the week

Maybe to a regular couple or individual this doesn’t seem that crazy but to us, this has been an absolute miracle. We had just found out last week that our monthly support wasn’t as high as we had thought and well…we were scratching our heads saying “we know we are going to be taken care of, so how is it going to happen this month?” Well…this is the confirmation that it is happening. We know that it isn’t going to be easy, and there still are challenges to the next couple months, but we know we are taken care of and we know that in the end, we are loved and cared for.

With God working around us, with us being able and open to see, we are quite excited about what is to come. We don’t know what is coming but we arnow dreaming and seeing how these dreams are in the process of being reality. That’s exciting. More to come on that later….I have been going around (well not really going around to the world) telling a few people that I’m really excited for the Nikon Festival and the chance to win $100,000. What excites me the most is the thought that I don’t need that money. I don’t need to keep any of it because I know that I am loved and cared for. Steph and I are in the process of talking about what we would do with that much money, but here is a short business plan that I firmly believe will change the world…

I’m planning on officially launching Feed The Need as an advertising/production house. Our mission, to change the world through advertising. I firmly believe that the world market is changing and revolving back to the good ol’ days when you bought from those you trusted, from people you knew, and from companies who are not just making their riches but contributing to the world. As the market changes I believe companies will need to start advertising what they are doing to connect with their communities, as well as how they have changed. Feed The Need will connect those companies with actual needs around the world and locally. Our projects will include these to start:

-Feeding the host city of the SuperBowl. How amazing would it be if Super Bowl Sunday was the day that people knew was going to transform a city, not just on a day, but forever by making sure that people do not go hungry there anymore.

-Porn Addicts Anonymous: This project is focused on taking the mask off of the elephant in the closet in our society. The porn industry brings in roughly 90 Billion dollars every year, destroys lives, marriages, and imagine the dent in the economy. The goal is to show real people, well respected main line addictive medicine, and the economics behind it to make a moral point or statement.

-The Oil Crisis in the Niger River Delta: The Niger River Delta is being destroyed by companies such as Shell and 76, and yet the only way people seem to put pressure on them is by aggressively going after them. If the market is really changing, the working theory is that positive advertising of the good that they are now doing may actually be practical, less costly for them as companies, and both parties will be satisfied. I’d love to be apart of the solution and see these companies not just settle but start fixing the problem because they see that it is beneficial and a good business practice.

So, I commute to work every weekday using Rte 1 South through the exchange onto 76 East merging onto 676 and then taking the 15^th St/Vine St exit.  In an effort to heal myself of the dreaded “road rage” disease, I felt it important enough to my treatment to share a few observations with the world.

1. It’s ok to drive the speed limit.  Don’t you read the paper? Listen to the news? Pedestrians are getting knocked off one by one by those of you who ignore the speed limit – especially on the Boulevard.  Slow it down.

2. I think there are signs posted??? There is no parking in the right lane on Roosevelt Boulevard during those early morning commuting hours. So, it’s not ok to park there during rush hour.

3. It’s ok to yield to a merging lane. I think even in Drivers Ed., and somewhere in that book you study from to get your license – it states that we are to yield to the merging lane.   And, if not, it is still ok to change lanes to allow for the merging traffic to enter the lane.

4.  Therefore, it’s not ok to run the merging driver off the road.

5.  Since the construction is finally finished on the exchange, it’s ok to now drive like it.  The road is freshly paved, the traffic does flow the way I’m sure the civil engineer designed it, so do us all a favor and move it.

6.   Even though a fancy new digital announcement sign has been erected to inform us how long it may take to get from the Rte 1 exchange to 676 – it’s not ok to slow to a near stop to read it, especially in the passing lane.

7.   For you newcomers, the exit toward City Line Ave backs up – so if you are not going that way move into the middle lane before the rush of oncoming cars approaches you. So, it’s not ok to cut drivers off because you weren’t paying attention.

8.   It’s ok to use your blinker to ask permission to change lanes.  And even more ok to wave “thanks” to the driver behind you who let you in. Who raised you? Use your manners.

9.   It’s not ok to speed up when you see a blinker go on – so not to allow the driver in your lane.  What exactly says – “I win” after you’ve mowed down a Mini Cooper because you wanted to be ahead of him?

10.   More words for the newcomer: There is a sun glare at the bend in the road on 76E,  right about at Girard St.  So, it’s not ok to lay on your horn for the drivers ahead of you to speed up. Dude – we can’t see.

11.  It’s ok to slow down at the turn off onto 676.  The turn can be hazardous in inclement weather… That means you – trucker.

12.  It’s ok to stay in that backed up lane at the Vine street exit. The far right lane seems to back up all the way to the entering exit before it.  It makes things easier for a driver like me who knows that there are 2 turning lanes. Yeah! 2 seconds shaved off my commute!

13.   FYI: the police that are posted at 15^th and Cherry, 15^th and Arch and 15^th and JFK aren’t there to be pretty. You are going to get a ticket if you block the box.  So, it’s ok to slow down approaching the yellow light.  Special Commuters Note: Only in these instances.

14.  And, speaking of “blocking” – it’s not ok to block the entrance to a parking garage – people need to go into said garage and park.

i didn’t even use my card at all until yesterday, but i did check my account when i got home. i also just got done shopping with my mom and am glancing over those purchases now. my dad sprung it on me this week that i’ll also be paying for my gas now. i can’t really complain though, it is about time! i’m so spoiled. i’m hoping that my tips will be able to cover all my gas expenses.  (2/2 times for 2/131 weeks)

just paid off another $100. rawr rawr rawr. why did i get a credit card in the first place?

my hair is really oily still. i was under the impression that the baking soda would dry it out some. still washing my hair with no-poo every other day. this is what i did with regular shampoo oh well, i am still enjoying it and i actually really like the gritty feeling. is that weird? (2/4 weeks)

goal #82, shop at thift stores before going retail:
well, i needed new work shoes, and i didn’t want to spend a lot of time trying to find them. i don’t even know if a second hand store would carry the kind opf work shoes i need. i’d have to be soooo lucky. so i went to target and i spent$30 on work shoes. that were comfortable in the store and once i got home, i put them on, walked to the front door, took them off and went straight back to my room to put my old ones one. goodbye shoes, hello return!

In 1 John 4:19 the Bible says, “We love Him because He first loved us.” This verse comes in the midst of a passage about God’s love. It is a statement that summarizes what our attitude toward God ought to be. It shows that His love is the incentive, the motive, and moral cause of our love. The word for love in this text is AGAPE, which means, among other things, caring enough about someone to sacrifice for him. God so loved us to this degree that He sent Jesus to die for our sins. Jesus loved us so much that He willingly came and died. Because of this great love, we must love so good a God, who was first in the act and work of love; who loved us when we were both unloving and unlovely; who loved us at so great a cost – the expense of His only begotten Son’s blood. Because of this great love, we are naturally moved (at least we should be moved) to love Him, our fellow brethren, and the whole lost world in return. So how do we show our love for God and Jesus? The New Testament tells us a number of ways…

First, we show our love for God and Jesus by obeying them!

John 14:15 records Jesus teaching His disciples, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” Later in the discourse, He said to them, “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him” (vs.21). Did you notice the blessings He promised to those who love Him and keep His commandments? He said, if we love Him the Father will love us, and He (Jesus) will love us and manifest Himself to us. Later in his life, John tied together love for God and obedience. He wrote, “Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked” (1 John 2:3-6). A little later in this same epistle, the Holy Spirit said, “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3). From time to time we have heard someone say, “I just can’t keep this old Bible. I just can’t live up to its teachings.” But John says obeying God’s commands are not burdensome. This does not mean that everything we do will be easy or even pleasant, but if we truly love God, we will gladly do whatever He tells us to do, simply because He tells us too. Our personal feelings about His commands are irrelevant. In these verses, we can clearly see that we show our love for God by obeying Him. This also means that if we do NOT keep His commandments, we do NOT really love Him. Disobedience shows a lack of love.

Second, we show our obedience and love for God and Jesus by putting them first!

When asked on one occasion what the greatest commandment was, Jesus answered, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 22:37-40). The point Jesus was making is that with everything we are and have, we must love God. This demands that He be first in our life. And Jesus demands the same for Himself. He said on another occasion, “He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me” (Matthew 10:37-39). Speaking of Jesus, Paul wrote, “And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence (or first place)” (Colossians 1:18). Consider also 1 John 2:15 which says, “Love not the world, neither the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” This text shows that if we prefer the world (or anything in the world) above Him, that a true love for God is not there. Truly, love for God and Jesus means that they must be a priority in our lives. They must come first.

Third, we show our obedience and love for God and Jesus by loving our brethren!

On the same occasion that Jesus taught His disciples to keep His commandments He told them how important loving one another would be. He said, “A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this shall all men know that you are My disciples, if you have love one for another” (John 13:34-35). The Holy Spirit emphasized this again in 1 John 4:20-21. There the Bible says, “If someone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.” Did you notice the emphatic equation between our love for our brethren and our love for God? Truly, we show God how much we love Him by preferring to be with others of a like precious faith.

Fourth, we show our obedience and love for God and Jesus by telling others about Them!

If you love someone, you want others to know about him or her (AMEN?). One who loves his parents, will humbly tell others about them. He who truly loves his wife, will want others to know about her. He wears a ring and puts her upon a pedestal. Such is also true if we love God and Jesus. We will want to let others know that they are a part of our life. In Acts 8:4, we read of persecuted brethren who, “were scattered abroad (and) went everywhere preaching the word.” Their love for Christ compelled them to tell others about Him. The apostle Paul spoke of His love for Christ compelling him in 2 Corinthians 5:14. A study of the context of that passage shows that he and those with him were interested in persuading men to believe in Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:10-11). Loved ones, like the apostles Peter and John, we need to develop a bad case of the I-can’t-help-its when it comes to telling others about the Godhead. Even after being threatened and commanded not to speak any more in the name of Jesus, they told the Jewish leaders, “we cannot but speak the things we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:17-20). They surely remember the words of Jesus when He said, “Therefore, whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32-33). They also loved the Lord enough to say, “We ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29). Do you love God and Jesus enough to tell others about Them?

Finally, we show our obedience and love for God and Jesus by loving them!

The point here is that when we act because we AGAPAO God, in time it will lead to a relationship, or a sense and emotion that is much deeper than merely obeying. In other words Agape love will lead to Phileo love for God. You ask, what’s the difference? Well in short, due to time, Agapao is the love of the mind or the will, and Phileo is the love of closeness and affection. Agapao often coveys the idea of showing love by action, whereas Phileo is a love of the feelings, and has to do with warm and spontaneous affection. John 16:27 says, “For the Father himself loves (Phileo) you, because you have loved (Phileo) Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.” Paul commanded, “If any one does not love (Phileo) the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed. O Lord come” (1 Corinthians 16:22). These verses talk about the affection we ought to develop when Jesus and God become the influencing factors they should be in our lives.

Conclusion

There are other ways that we demonstrate our obedience and love for God and Jesus, but these five are sufficient to give us an idea of exactly what it involves. John gave this consolation concerning our love for Them: “And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him” (1 John 4:16). James said, “Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him” (James 1:12). In these verses we see the reward we have if we truly love God and Jesus as we ought to. What about you? Do you love God and Jesus as you ought to? Do you love them enough to keep their commandments?

I do not know how many times I see fellow Christians trying to preach the gospel to a militant Atheist. The Christian will often quote scripture at the atheist only to have what they said ripped to shreds with the point completely lost.
Sadly, this is mostly the Christians fault. Because many of us Christians want to help save people so much, and want to share are experiences and what we feel with other people. That we forget there are those who do not want our help. And they will even hold us in contempt when we do try to guide them to God.
Thus we end up having the opposite affect of what we intended. And we end up hardening their hearts. Thus we are that which acts as a wedge between the non-believer and God. So what do we do?
Well God tells us how we are to deal with such people within the bible, when it says;

“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces. (Matthew 7:6 NKJV)

This verse tells us that were not to preach to those who don’t want to hear it. The Believer’s Bible Commentary says it better then I can when it says the fallowing;

7:6 Verse 6 proves that Jesus did not intend to forbid every kind of judgment. He warned His disciples not to give holy things to dogs or to cast … pearls before swine. Under the Mosaic Law dogs and swine were unclean animals and here the terms are used to depict wicked people. When we meet vicious people who treat divine truths with utter contempt and respond to our preaching of the claims of Christ with abuse and violence, we are not obligated to continue to share the gospel with them. To press the matter only brings increased condemnation to the offenders.

This is something us Christians must be willing to accept. There are people who not only do not want to hear what we have to say, but there are some who will become hostile when we do. We need to learn to not to preach to people who really do not want to be preached to. And just except their choice and pray for them. When they are ready they will come to us freely. Or God will guide them to us.
We can better use are time preaching and trying to save people who are willing to hear what we have to say. Then to preach to people who want nothing to do with us.

goal #13, no fast food:
this week, i have had a sick craving for a sausage breakfast sandwich. nevermind the fact that i don’t eat pork products and haven’t for some time, really. i even went into the mcdonald’s (MCDONALD’S!!!) drive thru on saturday morning before i had to open at work to get one. luckily, they don’t start serving breakfast until 4am, and since that was the time i had to be at work, no sausage biscuit for me! other than that, avoiding fast food has been pretty easy for me.

goal #33, compliment at least one stranger every day:
working at starbucks makes this goal a lot easier. i’ve complimented (mostly women) on their hair, eye color, clothes, etc all week and it is lovely to see their faces light up. 7/1001.

goal #52, read one book a month.
already done for november, thanks to kelsi. we are reading janet evanovich’s stephanie plum series, and i just finished the fourth book in the series, four to score. it was a quick, easy read and absolutely hilarious. rex the hamster is awesome. 1/33

goal #65, buy some sexy boots:
oh, yeah, baby.

goal #74, deposit $5 in savings for every goal completed:
that’s $5 this week for the boots! woohoo! 1/101.

goal#76, check account for spending twice a week:
it was frightening, but i did it. booooo. definitely spent less than week than i would have otherwise. ugh. 2/2 times for 1/131 weeks.

goal #81, wash hair using the no-poo system for a month:
got back into it this week and i LOVE it! my hair is so much softer and shinier now. i just need to find a really good deep conditioner for it. i’ve hear avocados, mayonnaise and egg yolks are all good for dry hair, but i do need to research it a bit more to find a good recipe.  1/4 weeks.

goal #82, shop at thift stores before going retail:
had an itch for some new sweaters so i cleaned out my closet, took a bunch of clothes to buffalo exchange and got some cute new sweaters! a banana republic sweater, two cardigans, a knit cream colored shirt, a flowy, printed floral shirt and a vintage cream colored heart necklace for less than $50! yay me!

goal #94, blog twice a week:
well…this is my first post this week…luckily for me, my week starts on monday and ends on sunday, so i can still post one more today! however, twice in one day is not what i had in mind. oh well. done and done. 1/131.

“I’m just glad it’s over in many ways.

Spending those last months at her side, watching her deteriorate and in so much pain was the worst.

And to be helpless to do anything about it for her.

She’s free now.  She was lucid to the end, which I’m very grateful for.  And now she’s free.

I was really lucky to actually have the close relationships with my grandparents that I did. They all lived in my home town as I grew up and after my parents split up, they gave me a sense of foundation and a place to come home to, no matter how far away I was at college, etc..

I’m really glad we got her moved down here when we did. 
And I’m really glad it was peaceful with Mom holding her hand.

All I can say is that in many ways, I feel very humbled and very grateful for the lessons a family can teach.
Many days there’s just a vacuum in my everyday existence.

But it’s far worse for Mom right now.”

That was a little over two years ago. Since then I’ve lost another grandparent. Now I’m down to one 90 year old grandmother of a matron I love so dear.

And I know it is my destiny, the destiny of all who live, to lose more loved ones in the future. Even that either my husband or I will lose the other first and endure that pain.

They say statistically our average age is now about 76 years.  Two of my grandparents died of cancer at the age of 76.  And now, I am 38 years old and nearing that looming age of 40.

It didn’t bother me to turn 30.  But this – statistically half-way – I am not where I thought I’d be.  Nor is the world.

Today I got 76 Runecrafting after buying 50,000 pure essence.

I runecraft at the ZMI Altar also known as the Ourania Altar. I have crafted 17,000 pure essences since the last 5 days. As you can tell, I am tired of runecrafting but 91 runecrafting is well worth it.

I will be updating my blog on my rough road to 91 Runecrafting.
