Clearly a place you don't want to be....

I feel as though things close to me are under attack.

I spent yesterday morning in the hospital with my girlfriend, because she had to have her gall bladder removed.  She has been in pain for some time, so I should be happy that they are finally dealing with the problem and trying to provide her with some relief.  I really didn’t feel that way.  You look around in the waiting room and all you see is desperation and the feeling of being out of control.

It feels like going back in time when you were dependent on someone else for things. (For some of you, you still are…get a job and get out of your mothers attic or garage…)  That is the feeling of helplessness.  I know the doctors are talented, but I like to drive and this is one situation where you have to sit back and let someone else take the keys and it is not a good feeling.

Right now, people in my community are being felled by illness.  Just yesterday, the debate coach at Northwestern had a cardiac arrest issue and is in the ICU with a grim prognosis.  This is on top of the coach for Wake Forest passing, and I had just spent time with him on the forth of July and he seemed in good health and spirits, like I am used to seeing him.

If anything, take this time to value the people around you since time is not promised.  Let me take the time to shout out my parents and say that I am a horrible son, but love you guys lots.  Also, to friends that may read this, I appreciate you tremendously, even if we don’t talk a lot.  I care about you and hope that the holiday spirit is good.  In 2009, we have lost too much, from friends to entertainers like MJ, Brittney Murphy, and Patrick Swayze.  Let’s hope for a better 2010

It’s sad to hear the immediate speculations of drug abuse and other “Hollywood” related causes of death once Brittany Murphy was pronounced dead after suffering cardiac arrest on Sunday December 20th. The reality is that a great talent was taken away before her time (at the mere age of 32) and will be greatly missed. Brittany Murphy moved to Hollywood with her mother with dreams of starring on the silver screen and she made it! Her breakout role in 1995’s Clueless, gained her credibility within the industry and led her to land additional roles. She later starred in Girl, Interrupted, 8 Mile, Just Married and Uptown Girls in addition to other movie and TV projects.

What stood out most about this talented actress was her bubbly personality and energy. More than one person (including her ex-boyfriend Ashton Kutcher) described her as a “piece of sunshine” with the ability to light up any room.

Ashton Tweeted, “2 day the world has lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany’s family, her husband and her amazing mother Sharon.”

Regardless of her cause of death, Brittany Murphy should be recognized and remembered for her talent and contagious smile. It’s incredibly sad to see such a talent lost so prematurely. My thoughts go out to her family, husband and loved ones. Rest in peace Brittany.

Wow…I know this is kind of old news by now, but we’re both still really, really sad about the sudden death of Brittany Murphy on Sunday at the age of 32. Like most people we fell in love with her in “Clueless”, but “Girl, Interrupted” was the movie that really showed us what that little powerhouse could do.

I mean, whoa…if you ask me, they gave the Oscar to the wrong crazy girl at the institution that year. Angelina Jolie was great and showy/crazy enough to take home the gold, but Murphy was the real time bomb in that movie. She was like, scary good…and those chickens under her bed? Yikes!

And though I loved her in the deeply-flawed “8 Mile” and some of her fluffier fare over the years — my Mom was just recently raving about a movie of hers called “The Ramen Girl” which I am now dying to see — I gotta say, my favorite Brittany Murphy “role” was her voice work as Luanne Platter on FOX’s long-running animated series, “King of the Hill”.

All of the voice actors were amazing on “Hill”, but Murphy’s Luanne was always my favorite. In lesser hands, Luanne coulda been a stereotypical dumb blonde, but Murphy imbued her with such heart and genuine emotion that you really rooted for her, no matter how far off track she went.

I know Luanne was a cartoon character, but, in Murphy’s gifted hands, she seemed so real and annoying that sometimes you just wanted to slap her silly…or kiss her, or, you know, both. I know that sounds crazy, but, Luanne was a very complicated character…so, back off.

Anyway, I’m sure the tabloids will have a field day with the finer details of Murphy’s tragically short life and untimely death, but all I know is that I’m bummed she won’t be around to make any more movies.

Hell, Christine and I liked Brittany Murphy so damn much that we even Tivo-ed (and watched!) the “Nora Roberts Collection 2009″ TV movie she did on Lifetime this past summer, “Tribute”.

The movie kinda sucked, but Murphy, as always, kinda rocked. And if that’s not a sign of someone with true star wattage, then I don’t what is. Rest in peace, sweet, beautiful, Brittany Murphy…we’ll miss you.

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles County coroner’s office says it has completed an autopsy of Brittany Murphy but will defer releasing a cause of death until after toxicology tests are complete.

It says there was no evidence of trauma to Murphy’s body.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter says the autopsy was completed Monday.

Murphy died Sunday after collapsing in the bathroom of her Hollywood Hills home. Winter says her family told coroner’s investigators she had been suffering from flu-like symptoms in the days before her death.

The 32-year-old appeared in films such as “Clueless,” “8 Mile” and “Girl, Interrupted.”

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Brittany Murphy was ill with flulike symptoms in the days before she died, and prescription medications have been taken from her home, coroner’s officials said Monday.

The details emerged as authorities tried to determine what killed the 32-year-old star of films such as “Clueless” and “8 Mile” who collapsed Sunday in the bathroom of her Hollywood Hills home.

Paramedics tried to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The hospital said she died of cardiac arrest.

“We went to the scene to see if there was anything that suggests foul play, and there wasn’t,” Los Angeles police Detective Wendi Berndt said.

Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said an autopsy was under way to determine what her caused of death, but it appeared to be natural causes.

The illness, reported to officials by her family, could have contributed to her death, but it will be weeks before a final determination is made, he said.

Investigators were getting more information about the illness and Murphy’s medical history from her doctor. Toxicology tests also will be performed, perhaps delaying the official determination of her cause of death by at least six weeks.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

“The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy,” Murphy’s husband Simon Monjack, a screenwriter, and her family wrote in a statement. “She was our daughter, our wife, our love, and a shining star.”

Murphy’s death put “Saturday Night Live” in an awkward spot.

Two weeks ago, the NBC show aired a sketch during “Weekend Update” in which cast member Abby Elliott did an impression of Murphy, who had recently been fired from a film project. The impression portrayed Murphy as spacey and living in the past.

After Murphy’s death, the sketch disappeared from Hulu.com, an online video repository co-owned by NBC Universal. A publicist for “Saturday Night Live” didn’t respond to requests for comment.

Murphy moved to Los Angeles with her mother, Sharon, in the early 1990s. Her career started with small roles in television series, commercials and movies. Her part in “Clueless” led to larger projects.

She is also known for her role in “Girl, Interrupted” and voiced the character Luanne Platter for more than 200 episodes of Fox’s animated series “King of the Hill.”

Her role in “8 Mile” led to wide recognition.

“That was the difference between people knowing my first and last name as opposed to not,” she told AP in 2003.

Like many of Brittany’s fans, I was shocked to her about her passing. I remember first seeing her in Clueless(“rolling with the homies”). I have been rooting for her throughout her whole career. It is sad to see young, talented people die so young.

Ok… so a totally different subject for me today. As we all know the young actress Brittany Murphy died Sunday on December 21,2009 at the age of 32,thats just too young. The actress started in the T.V show “Clueless” and her fame had rose with her  role in “8 mile” as Eminem’s girlfriend. Her family told Los Angeles officials that she had flu like symptoms days before her death. She also had been on prescription drugs, nobody knows for sure if she was addicted to them,if her doctors made a mistake,or if she was taking them just for her flu symptoms. The rumors are that there could have been cocaine drug use with a combination of an eating disorder. It was also reported that Murphy had diabetes, which could be the cause of her heart attack. They will be performing an autopsy either today or tomorrow regardless of her husband’s wishes. Whatever truth the autopsy reveals, we have lost another well known talented person in our world as well as many others.

“I feel very blessed for everything I have in my life and my family,” she told Tarts.

Actress Brittany Murphy was rushed by ambulance to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles in the early hours of December 20.

She was pronounced dead on arrival from cardiac arrest.

Pop Tarts spoke with Murphy just days earlier, in what now turns out to have been her final interview.

Murphy’s frail appearance at the December 3 opening party of contemporary label Tt Collection’s first pop-up retail location in Los Angeles raised a few eyebrows.

“I am a bit thinner now then what I would like to be,” Murphy told Tarts.

Murphy, who also seemed to be a bit distracted and dazed, had been dealing with an array of personal stresses.

In November, rumors circulated that she was fired from a film in Puerto Rico, which her rep told Tarts at the time was not true.

Then her husband Simon Monjack was rushed to hospital after their return flight in which he became gravely ill and “incoherent.”

Despite admitting to being a few pounds underweight, Murphy was very enthusiastic about her workout regimen, crediting her slender physique to plies and pirouettes.

“I was a ballerina for a long time,” Murphy said. “I still take ballet lessons now – what it does to your body is incredible.”

Murphy also wanted to talk to Tarts about a charity very close to her heart. Proceeds from the Tt Collection event were being donated to Looking Beyond, an organization that helps families of children who can’t afford the prosthetics that they need.

“Looking Beyond is a charity I’ve been involved with for a very long time and very passionate about it,” Murphy said, tearing up. “What they do is incredible, giving limbs to children in need. It’s very heartbreaking, but so great to be able to help.”

The emotional actress was quick to count her own blessings.

“I feel very blessed for everything I have in my life and my family,” she told Tarts.

We also wanted to know if she kept in touch with the cast of “Clueless,” the movie that put her on the map.

“I haven’t spoke to them in a long time, but I still keep in contact with Amy Heckerling, the director,” she added with a laugh. “So funny, but it was hard to get a job for two years after that, everyone thought I was really Tai.”

Funeral arrangements for Brittany Murphy are now being planned.

Most of you have already heard the shocking news by now. Brittany Murphy died from a cardiac arrest yesterday. Another Hollywood star lost to the Hollywood lifestyle. It has already been speculated that cocaine was the cause of her death, which may have also explained her dramatic weight loss. This on the heels of Michel Jackson’s death. It makes me wonder what makes creative personalities, addictive personalities. I’m sure many will blame the fast paced/high pressure lifestyle of a celebrity. But I have yet to meet a creative person who isn’t troubled one way or another. It may very well be part of the creative DNA, and perpetuated by the legends. You would think that those who have “made it” would be better off. But they may actually be more susceptible to the dark side.

Movies such as Clueless, Just Married, and 8 Mile come to mind when you think about Brittany Murphy.  Last night, she died from what doctors are calling natural causes at age 32 yrs old.  The death is very unexpected and she will be truly missed.  She died after collapsing in the bathroom.   She is due to appear in Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming film, “The Expendables,” set for release next year.

She dated Ashton Kutcher, who costarred with Murphy in 2003’s romantic comedy “Just Married.”

Like most, we were stunned by the news of Hollywood star Brittany Murphy’s sudden death on Sunday, at the age of just 32.

The star of movies such as Girl, Interrupted, Clueless, 8 Mile and the hilariously funny black comedy, Drop Dead Gorgeous, had a quirky beauty and we believe she was most definitely an honorary Bombshell.

Her saucer-like eyes, bold red lips and shiny hair made her look every inch the Hollywood star.

Brittany wanted more than anything to be a star, and moved to LA with her mother, Sharon, who sold up everything in New Jersey to help her daughter fulfil her dream.

Her career was up and down, her private life the same; rumours of drug addiction and eating disorders plagued her. She was nothing if not intriguing, in a typically Bombshell way.

And like all the Bombshells before her, she leaves a celluloid legacy that means she will live on long after her tragic death.

This weekend Brittany Murphy died of natural causes in Los Angeles. She was 32, which is far too young for anyone to die. We never met Brittany Murphy but we always enjoyed her performance in the movies that she did. The new clueless girl in Clueless and the go get it girlfriend of Eminem in 8 Mile both come to mind when we think of Brittany Murphy. She showed some range in her acting talents but also had her own unique style to her that made you recognize who she was instantly. She brought a piece of herself to the screen every time and I think that is why she had so many fans and people that appreciated her work. Outside of acting and in the new media spotlight that is the internet and those gossip columns, she always came across as cute and as a positive person. I don’t think there has ever been a photo posted on the internet of Brittany Murphy that wasn’t of her smiling.

Coroner: Murphy appears to have died of natural causes
December 20, 2009 11:05 p.m. EST

Los Angeles, California (CNN) — Brittany Murphy, the bubbly, free-spirited actress who appeared in such films as “Clueless” and “8 Mile,” died apparently of natural causes, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said.

Murphy, 32, was pronounced dead at 10:04 a.m. PT (1:04 p.m. ET) Sunday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, hospital spokeswoman Sally Stewart said.

An autopsy had not been scheduled as of Sunday night, but Capt. John Kades, a spokesman for the coroner’s office, said there was no sign of foul play or trauma.

“Naturally occurring diseases could be found in any person that could lead to death,” Kades said.

Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show the leading cause of death for American women in Murphy’s age range is unintentional injury. Malignant tumors are second, followed by heart disease and suicide.

The coroner’s office is looking into Murphy’s medical history. A final report could take up to eight weeks.

Earlier, robbery and homicide detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department were on the scene to investigate the death, police spokeswoman Norma Eisenman said.

“The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy,” her family said in a statement issued by her publicist. “She was our daughter, our wife, our love and a shining star. We ask you to respect our privacy at this time.”

Funeral arrangements are pending, the family said.

Murphy starred in several movies, including, “Just Married,” “Don’t Say a Word” and “Riding in Cars With Boys,” and also voiced the character of Luanne Platter on the animated series “King of the Hill.”

She is survived by her husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, whom she married in 2007.

Fans took to Murphy’s official Facebook page Sunday to give their condolences.

“She was a great actress and was going to go far in her career! She will be greatly missed!” read one post.

Former boyfriend — and “Just Married” co-star — Ashton Kutcher was one of many celebrities to post his reaction to the news via Twitter.

“2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany’s family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon,” Kutcher tweeted.

“see you on the other side kid,” he added later.

Singer-actress Jessica Simpson tweeted: “Brittany Murphy was an incredible ray of Light to so many people. Her smile was contagious. My prayers are with her family and loved ones.”

Actress Alyssa Milano, who did a USO tour with Murphy in 2003, wrote: “She was a sweet soul, with a lot of talent and heart.”

Murphy was best known for her work in a string of romantic comedies, including playing lead roles in “Uptown Girls” alongside fellow Georgia native Dakota Fanning, and “Little Black Book” with Holly Hunter and Kathy Bates, but her movie roles had declined in recent years.

Last month, Murphy reportedly was fired from “The Caller,” a movie she was working on in Puerto Rico. Her representative issued a statement to news outlets disputing the report, saying, “She was not nor has she ever been fired from any job big or small. … [Due] to creative differences Ms. Murphy and the production mutually parted ways,” according to People magazine.

In addition to her “King of the Hill” role, she lent her voice to a number of animated works, including the TV series “Futurama” and the 2006 movie “Happy Feet.”

Her portrayal of troubled teenagers in “Don’t Say a Word” and “Girl, Interrupted” also gained her critical acclaim.

Murphy was the subject of tabloid gossip after she transformed from a pudgy brunette in 1995’s “Clueless” to a petite, lithe blonde who graced the cover of such magazines as Cosmopolitan in 2005. She frequently denied rumors of an eating disorder and plastic surgery.

Her love life also was fodder for gossip sites as she broke two engagements in 2004 and 2006, then married Monjack after four months of dating.

“All these ridiculous people came out and said all this nonsense when we got married, [but] thank God we had the substance and the history within that to [say], ‘Yeah, whatever!’” Monjack told People in 2008. “We still don’t understand what happened. It’s made us laugh, it’s made us cry, but it’s made us stronger.”

We here at THE FILM GENERAL website were saddened and surprised by the death of a young and rising actress.

Brittany Murphy, only aged 32, suffered from a huge heart attack early in the morning on the 20th December 2009. Police and other officials still haven’t confirmed the true cause of this shocking death. More details will be made available soon.

She had a very interesting career, working in a combination of TV Shows, Big Budget flicks to indie DVD movies. Starring in films like ‘Clueless’, ‘8 Mile’, ‘Sin City’ and ‘Girl, Interrupted’, her talent was obvious and sparkling the moment she was on the screen. Even though she has passed on, she was working and completed plenty of projects, having a few tricks up her sleeve. Expect to see her on the big screen soon… including the highly anticipated action flick ‘The Expendables’.

Jack, Myself and the rest of the cadets give our blessings to Murphy’s family and wish them well in this difficult time. Brittany, you will be missed.

So did anyone hear Brittany Murphy died today? At first thought to be a hoax but sadly the death has been confirmed by Ashton Kutcher, co-star from the movie “Just Married”, when he posted on Twitter, “2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany’s family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon,”  and in a later tweet he added, “see you on the other side kid.”

Murphy’s death is reportedly due to a heart attack, surprising because she was only 32. A call was made Sunday at 8 am for an ambulance apparantly after Murphy collapsed in her bathroom, she was pronounced dead at 10 am  and police are still investigating.  Rumors are that she overdosed on drugs, but she also had a history of diabetes.

We’ll have to wait and see.

Simon Monjack, he husband reportedly did not want there to be an autopsy. Killer much? I mean really, he’s an out of work B movie script writer and she was a famous Hollywood actress, I smell career envy.

I was standing in a warehouse in Mississauga, Ontario (just West of Toronto) when my wife asked me if I knew who Brittany Murphy was.  I knew the name and I could picture her, so I replied, “yes”.

“She’s dead” my wife blurted out.

Odd.  I thought she was young… Very young.

Turns out I was right.  She was 32 years old and she died from “cardiac arrest”… At 32?  Cardiac arrest???  Drug OD I thought to myself.  When will they learn? 

I thought it would be Brittany Spears or Lindsay Lohan first…

So what can I tell you about Brittany Murphy that I did not know…

Well, she was best known for her acting in the movies; Clueless, and 8 Mile.   She also starred in such hits as Sin City, and Girl, Interrupted.

Murphy was born in Atlanta and raised in New Jersey.

Her movie career took off when she co-starred as one of Alicia Silverstone’s best friends in the hit 1995 comedy Clueless (even I saw this movie!)  She also had a number of voice roles, most notable as Luanne in the Fox animated series King of the Hill (who knew!) and in the movie Happy Feet.  And she also sang…

It is being reported that she was found unconscious by her mother Sharon at the home of Murphy’s husband, screenwriter Simon Monjack (married 2007), in Los Angeles in the early hours of Dec. 20. She was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Like I said earlier, 32 year old females don’t just die of heart attacks.  DJ Samantha Ronson wondered on her twitter account when G-d was going to stop calling people back, and I was tempted to say when people stop abusing their bodies with drugs.  I know it’s sad and unfair of me to jump to conclusions but there has been a plethora of celebrities who have died of accidental overdoses, just like a bunch of athletes dying from stupidity (see: Chris Henry) or steroids (see: professional wrestling and football).

While these celeb deaths used to shock me, they are becoming second nature now.  Sad.  Twitter has been over capacity for most the evening and RIP Brittany Murphy is the number 1 trending topic.

And before I posted this story, I went to see if there were any updates but instead of going to mainstream media, I went to the new media kings, x17, TMZ and other’s as they seem to have all the good stuff.  But they had nothing new… Yet…

Christie D’Zurilla posted a blog entry a few hours ago on The L.A. Times website noting not only the death of Brittany Murphy, but also remembering the scene in 8 Mile in which her character visits the auto plant in an effort to seduce the film’s protagonist, Rabbit. I don’t want to dwell on the untimely loss of another way-to0 young actress. Instead, it might be better just to treasure up that memorable cinematic moment in my heart. Well! The burger flipping life has offered me a few moments of respite, and I’m taking advantage of this fact. I spent the weekend eating outstanding meals prepared by friends (in honor of my wife’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Lori and sorry about the rest of this post) and just kind of “watching the wheels go around.” John Lennon may have had his fault’s, but he often got to the core of what ends up being meaningful in one’s life. I remember seeing studio footage of him producing “Wheels”  and his telling the musicians “You aren’t driving the thing, you’re just watching the wheels go around.” So, I didn’t drive the thing. I made my kid laugh and read some good books, enjoyed some home cooking and had some long overdue conversations. I managed to get in trouble, as usual. My host made chocolate cake. Not just any, mind you, but flourless with smooth, rum ganache. Chocolate and I don’t do well and I knew that I might be in for a day of sickness, but I didn’t want to be a jerky guest. Actually, it would have been worth being sick. Damn fine cake. Still, I started to feel the migraine an hour after coming home, so I took a handful of everything in the house. Really. Not a great idea, but I was in for it. In my fevered state I had this insane dream about a nurse I’ve never spoken to, but one whom apparently knows me. I’ll never view scrubs the same way again, nor will I try to kill a headache by trying to carpet bomb it into submission. In the end, it’s better to just watch the wheels turn and leave the chocolate cake alone. I just have to let it go.

This story just sounds creepy. I’m sorry, is anyone else going to say it. Ok I will. You don’t DIE of “natural causes” at 32. 32?!! What are most people doing at thirty two? Trying to buy a house, finally have a job that can pay the bills? Getting established, not going six feet under. They don’t just drop dead! I know that life can be taken away from you at any moment, but her life just seems to be taken a little bit too soon, or a little bit too abruptly if you know what I mean.

I was very surprised and saddened to hear of Brittany Murphy’s death. She has acted in some of my favorite movies. I am not ashamed to say that sometimes when I feel sad and blue I pop Uptown Girls into my DVD player and dance around with Brittany as she sings Victory – The Weekend, and wishing that I could be as brave as her character and grow up to chase my dreams while still keeping my childhood in my heart of hearts. “Certainly not this. Certainly not this.”

I’m from Detroit and I thought she played a hooker/want to-be-model a little bit too realistic for my taste in 8 Mile. That blonde chick on King of the Hill that made me crack up? Yeah, she did the voice She was the geek/rocker chick in Clueless that I really couldn’t understand. She was the girl I wanted to call some not-so-Christian names after I found out she snapped up Ashton Kutcher back in 2003 when they filmed Just Married (he was supposed to be my man Brittany!…Sorry crushes die hard).

But of course my Brittany Murphy role, the one that made me sit back and say “Damn, that girl can act her ass off”, was in Girl, Interrupted. She played a girl in an asylum who was put there by her father who raped her whenever he visited her. Her character, Daisy, was addicted to the chicken dinners that he brought to her after ever visit and she hoarded them under her bed. Her character tried to pretend everything was fine, which so many people who were dealing with tragic problems back then did. The moment that made me shed tears was after her father moved her into an apartment and the audience was able to see that he treated her more like a mistress than a daughter. He gave Daisy a place to sleep and everything she ever wanted, as long as she kept her mouth shut. In a moment of sane or insane realization about what her father did, she hung herself while listening to her favorite record. I felt her character in the pit of my stomach and she stayed in my mind for weeks. Only great actors do that.

Over the past few years there have been accusations that Brittany wasn’t exactly staying skinny by just hitting the gym. Of course this happens to every petite or skinny-too-quick model in Hollywood but as we know in many of these cases the accusations are true. Less than 10 hours after her death rumors are already flying about Brittany Murphy collapsing from full cardiac arrest at 32 because she was anorexic. Is it true? I seriously hope not, but of course, being less than six months after Michael Jackson died under the same cause; one we later found out was because of drugs and not just “natural causes” as was first reported there is a reason to wonder.

Girls don’t die at thirty two. Girls aren’t found by their mothers in their showers in full cardiac arrest five days before Christmas at thirty two. We’re young, we’re supposed to be taking over the world, getting Oscar awards, and taking names. Just thinking about how talented and young she was I pray to God that this child did die of natural causes and not met by foul play. I pray that she saw the beauty that so many saw from her on the silver screen and didn’t crave to be thin so badly that she took her own life unintentionally. Brittany Murphy, you were definitely a one of a kind, rocking, and when I say bad I mean bad as hell good actress. May the gates of heaven meet you with open arms
