The PS3 Slim will come with more hard drive space, but Sony has decided to let one feature go. The Install Other OS functionality will not be available. There is no specific explanation about the removal, but Sony states it want to concentrate on games and entertainment. This new PS3 console will still not offer compatibility with PS2 games, another sought-after feature many PS3 owners really want. This time, the price is more attractive than before, and perhaps the console’s sales may increase during this season. The PS3 Slim will cost $299. The still-current consoles will cost $299 (80GB HDD) and $399 (160GB HDD).

From/De: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.

Entertainment on PS3 has a new look

Enjoy a new slimmer and lighter PlayStation 3, due to hit stores in September 2009 with a lower price and extensive software line-up in time for the holiday season.

At gamescom in Cologne, Germany, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. unveiled the new PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, featuring a streamlined form factor with a 120GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD). The new PS3 will be available in stores from September 1, 2009, in the UK at a very attractive recommended retail price (RRP) of £249.99.

With the introduction of the new PS3 system, SCEI will also reduce the price of the current PS3 with 80GB HDD to a RRP of £249.99 from August 19. By launching a vast library of exciting and attractive software titles for PS3 this holiday season and offering customers a line-up of hardware models and pricing to match their preference, SCEI will build on the momentum and further accelerate the expansion of the PS3 platform.

The internal design architecture of the new PS3 system, from the main semiconductors and power supply unit, to the cooling mechanism, has been completely redesigned, achieving a much slimmer and lighter body. Compared to the very first PS3 model with 60GB HDD, the internal volume as well as its thickness and weight are trimmed down to approximately two-thirds. Furthermore, power consumption is also cut to two-thirds, helping to reduce fan noise.

While inheriting the sleek curved body design of the original model, the form factor of the new PS3 system features a new meticulous design with textured surface finish, giving an all new impression and a casual look. With the compact body and casual appearance, the newly introduced model will appeal to a wider audience who are looking to buy the best entertainment system for their home.

Concurrently with the release of the new PS3 system, SCEI will modify the PS3 brand name from PLAYSTATION 3 to PlayStation 3, and introduce a new logo, which is engraved on the surface of the new PS3 system. By unifying under the familiar PlayStation name, which represents the entire PlayStation family, PS3 together with PlayStation 2 and PSP will further expand the PlayStation business, and will continue to enhance the entertainment experience along with the ever-growing PlayStation Network.

The new PS3 continues to offer the cutting-edge features and functions of the current models, such as the ability to enjoy High Definition Blu-ray Disc (BD) movies and games, as well as various content and services downloadable through the network.

The new PS3 system’s storage size has increased from 80GB to 120GB, and with the extra capacity users will be able to store more games, music, photos, videos as well as various content and services available through PlayStation Network. Having more than 27 million registered accounts around the world, as of the end of July 2009 PlayStation Network offers more than 15,000 pieces of digital content, ranging from game titles, trailers, and demos to more than 15,000 movies and TV shows via PlayStation Store.

PlayStation Network members can also download free applications, such as PlayStation Home, a ground-breaking 3D social gaming community available on PS3 that allows users to interact, communicate and share gaming experiences, as well as Life with PlayStation, which offers users various news and information on a TV monitor in the living room by connecting the PS3 to the network.

Since the launch of PS3 in November 2006, the number of disc titles has reached more than 1,000, and downloadable PS3 games to 1,400 titles worldwide, with the support from a broad range of third party game developers and publishers. In addition to this extensive software title line-up, exciting and attractive new titles are to be released from SCE Worldwide Studios, including Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, EyePet, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, MAG, ModNation Racers, Gran Turismo 5 and more.

Other features of the new PS3 include:
PS3 system software update version 3.00
Concurrently with the release of new PS3, system software will be upgraded to version 3.00 on September 1, 2009. The update adds various user-friendly features such as the What’s New screen, where users can quickly browse the new items available in PlayStation Store as well as their recently played games directly on the XMB (XrossMediaBar), with short cuts to each piece of content.

PS3 will evolve continuously with the system software updates, further improving the operability and enhancing the user experience available through the network. PS3 owners will be able to enjoy new features by simply updating the PS3 system software to version 3.00 via the System Update function on the XMB*.

Bravia® Sync™ Feature
The new PS3 system is also equipped with the Bravia® Sync™ feature. By connecting the new PS3 system and a Bravia TV with the HDMI cable, users are able to directly operate the XMB on PS3 using the TV remote control. Other functions include System Standby that will automatically turn off the PS3 system when the Bravia TV is turned off.

Vertical Stand for new PS3 (CECH-2000)
By utilising the separately sold Vertical Stand, users will be able to set the new PS3 in vertical position, making it easier to place the PS3 system anywhere at home.

Removal of Install Other OS feature
The new PS3 system will focus on delivering games and other entertainment content, and users will not be able to install other Operating Systems to the new PS3 system.

Are You Interested in PlayStation 3 80GB Coming Soon I find this from Amazon I will That interes, You that Agree?.

BuZZ from Customer Shopping

Great Configuration, Great Console
A lot of people have written about the pros and cons of the PS3 vs. XBOX 360 vs. Wii. I’m not bothering with that, and assume you can find that information at elsewhere. I’m also assuming you can read all about why the PS3 would or would not fit your needs.

Instead, I’d like this review to explain what exactly this configuration is (there’s a lot of confusion about that,) and why I think it hits the sweet spot. Basically, there are currently 2 versions of the PS3 on the market now. Ignoring the size of the drive for a second (because you can always swap the drive anyway, and it has no real bearing on the rest of the specs) think of them as Version A (currently available – or not as the case may be – in the PlayStation 3 80 GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Pack) and Version B (this one.)

The first thing that you need to understand is that there are three relevant differences between these two versions besides the included bundle and the price (the MGS one is $499 from amazon, more from third parties.)

Difference #1: Version A (MGS pack) is backward compatible with PS2 games while this one is NOT (they are both backward compatible with PS1 games however.)

Difference #2: Version A has 4 USB ports as well as memory card slots, while this version has only 2 USB ports and NO memory card slots.

Difference #3: AND THIS FOR ME IS BIG: Version A has the older and larger 90nm Cell processor, while this one has the smaller (and some say more reliable) 65nm Cell processor. Power consumption on this unit is lower as well, dropping from 200 Watts to 135 watts. The end result is a machine that runs cooler and, according to all reports as well as my personal experience, much quieter. An extremely relevant factor if you watch movies with it.

For those that have been looking for a while, this is basically the 40GB machine that was offered recently, with a larger hard drive and an upgraded controller – they replaced the basic sixaxis controller with the Dualshock 3 controller (which means it has rumble.)

Now Version A is packaged with Metal Gear Solid. It has an 80GB drive like this one, and the same controller. The big differences are listed above. Until this configuration was released, the larger hard drive and Dualshock controller were 2 of the 4 reasons many people felt the MGS pack was worth the additional $100. Those two factors are now eliminated. The remaining differences are the backward compatibility with PS2 games and the MGS game itself, which can of course be bought separately.

So to sum it up, if you NEED PS2 compatibility, you might want to grab the MGS pack if you can get one – that or keep your old PS2. For new buyers though, and for all of the people that are going to just play PS3 games, as well as avid movie watchers, this particular configuration is fantastic. You get the big drive, the good controller, PLUS the cooler running chip, a quieter machine and a system that uses about 33% less power.

And ok – just to satisfy the basic requirements of a review, I’ll list some other nice stuff: It includes a Blu-ray DVD player (one of those runs almost as much as, or more than, this entire box), the online play is FREE, wireless connectivity is built in (you don’t have to buy an additional piece as with some others), reliability has been quite good (much better than some others), there are some great PS3-only titles, and you can stream media to it from your PC. There’s more, but there are plenty of people outlining it.

As always, do your research and see what’s best for you. Maybe the 360-only titles are must haves for you, or maybe your family fits a Wii. We have a Wii and I love it. But I also love my PS3, and in my opinion this configuration is the one to get (this month anyway.)

How to make it near-complete
Necessary disclosure: I do not own this model. I have what used to be a 60GB model, recently upgraded to 320GB – the gold standard.

As compared to the 60GB model:
______________________________________________
+ less expensive (I paid $599 for my 60GB PS3)
+ 33% more storage
+ needs less power
+ dual shock controller (rumble)
- no memory card interfaces
- 2 USB ports vs. 4 USB ports on the 60GB
- no PS2 compatibility
______________________________________________

This model comes with an 80GB drive. This is nice because, most would agree, 80GB is more than 60GB. If you feel that the extra 20GB is a big deal, maybe you should think again. I upgraded my 60GB to 320GB because I was about to run out of space, with only 10GB or so left. One month or so later, I’m using more than 80GB already – just downloaded the Ratchet and Clank minigame from PSN and it alone needs about 3GB. My advice is to buy this model and upgrade it yourself. It’s (relatively) easy and you can find a lot of advice if you Google for it.

If you are on the upgrade path, $80 would buy you a 320GB drive. I used the Western Digital WD3200BEVT 320 GB Scorpio Sata 5400 Rpm 8MB 2.5 inch myself but that was back in June/July and I paid about $150 then; you could get much larger drives for less now. 500GB drives are available for less than $100 and you should try to get one of those if you are planning to store lots of videos. One that I tested would be the Western Digital 500GB Scorpio Blue SATAII 5400RPM 2.5IN 8MB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive WD5000BEVT which replaced my laptop’s 60GB little drive and I helped a friend upgrade his own PS3 with. The nice thing about upgrading your disk is that you are also going to be left with a perfectly good 80GB or $160GB drive which you can place into a cheap enclosure, and the StarTech AT2510U2 InfoSafe 2.5-Inch USB/SATA Hard Drive Enclosure worked for me. I am using the free leftover drive as a backup device for family photos.

Upgrading the disk is (relatively) easy and you can find a lot of advice on the Net. Search for “PlayStation 3 Hard Drive Upgrade (HOWTO)” for videos that should help you decide if you are comfortable with upgrading. If upgrading is the first thing you do (before installing games or uploading personal files), everything becomes very easy because you need not worry about backups or restores. I upgraded my box in a couple of hours WITH the backup/restore steps.

The lack of memory card interfaces is annoying but you can get around it. Copy your stuff to a USB drive or flash drive and… problem solved. You can then upload your things through the USB. It’s somewhat inconvenient but it’s no big deal.

My old (10 months) 60GB model has 4 USB slots and I am using all of them. One for the PS3 Eye (camera), a second has a wireless keyboard dongle, the third is where the racing wheel plugs in and the last one I use to charge controllers. Can you live with 2 slots? I suppose you can but there’s going to be some plugging/unplugging if you begin adding peripherals. I suppose you could get one of those USB ports multiplexers. They’re ugly but… it’s doable.

PS2 compatibility… can’t get it. Sorry. I don’t play PS2 games but my kids do. In fact, they just bought some Sonic game a couple of days ago. I was surprised but… de gustibus. They’re also playing Kingdom Hearts and Destroy All Humans.

This model comes with a couple of improvements over the gold standard. It burns less electricity, which is a good thing for the rain forests, keeping them cool and maybe you save a few dollars on your electric bill. And, of course you get the advanced controller.

Briefly:
- If you are planning to upgrade, the 80GB model is the way to go because it is selling for $100 less than the larger disk version and you can use the savings to pay for your disk upgrade
- Get yourself a USB port multiplexer if you need more than 2 ports
- Transfer your photos to flash drives to get around the missing memory card interfaces
- Or or, even better, to address both the USB and the memory card issues, get the Playstation 3 Media Hub+ for 2 extra USB ports AND a card reader
- Keep your PS2 if you have one and still wish to play PS2 games in the future.
- Enjoy your new PS3.

Why PS3 was by far the best value for us, and arguably the best choice now available
I had sat on the sidelines of the next gen video games up until a couple of weeks ago. I had tried Wii almost as soon as it came out and was captivated by the motion sensors but the limited availability and sameness to the games as well as limited graphics was frustrating.

Xbox 360 the $50 a year subscription and more importantly it lost the Blu-ray/HD battle were big no points for me. I enjoy games, my wife does not. She does enjoy movies and the internet. When I pointed out that PS3 was a Blu-ray player (with excellent reviews) and could let us surf the internet, she was all for it.

I have an ‘old’ HDTV (3 years old). It has a maximum resolution of 1080i and a DVI input but no HDMI. I did some research before buying this so I bought an HDMI to DVI cable at the same time. I was worried about hooking it up and getting it to look right and also getting sound. I should not have been. It took literally a few minutes. Plugged the HDMI end into the PS3 and the DVI end into the HDTV. Received a picture (great picture) right away. It detected that 1080i was the highest resolution and I choose that.

Sound I simply choose the option to put sound out correctly and received gorgeous sound. I only use the speakers that came with the HDTV but it sounds fantastic on Blu-Ray. I can only imagine what people with surround sound systems will get.

The Blu-Ray discs are stunning. Even with ‘just’ 1080i. Truly beautiful. And it also up-converts very well. My favorite movies are the LOTR expanded editions. I have seen LOTR on TNT HD broadcasts. With the PS3 they look almost as good perhaps even better than the HD broadcasts. Also one of the coolest things and I have no idea if this for all Blu-Rays are just PS3 is that it remembers where you were on discs (Blu-ray and DVD discs)even if the disc was last played 8 discs ago. So say for instance you a third of the way through Fellowship. You then put a few game discs in, some other movie discs, then go back to Fellowship. It actually remembers where you left off that disc. Love it.

The internet browsing has been very cool. At first it was ok but it did not fill up the screen and the lettering was too small. But then I discovered zoom in and zoom out. And now it is really fun to browse. As an aside when I started browsing if someone was on our lap-top we would get a connection conflict and would not be able to surf on the lap-top. I called Linksys and they were able to change a bunch of settings on the router and it works just fine now, no problems on using both at the same time.

As for games I have Assassin’s Creed and Oblivion now. Both look amazing. I have also downloaded demos for Mirror’s Edge (stunning) and Motorstorm (fun and also amazing graphics). Even as a gamer truly I only really have time for a half dozen games every year or two or even three. A lot of these games last a long time. So in reality the 360s edge on variety is for all intents moot. I am planning to get Little Big Planet and maybe the new Spidey game when it comes down in price. That will more than hold me over to God of War and which ever other few games I will get in 2009. Having a handful of great games, to me, is more important than 50 titles coming out a year.

Bottomline is if you have an HDTV (particularly if you have a home theater set up) and no Blu-ray and enjoy gaming the PS3 is truly awesome. You get a great Blu-ray player, an 80gig hard drive, incredible gaming capabilities (just downloading the demos would be cool), internet browsing and video watching on your TV. You can also download the LIFE utility that has an incredibly cool visual globe where you can get live weather and news headlines around the world. And you can help cure diseases by linking to a Stanford project that looks at how proteins work and fold. If you allow it your processor can be added to the processing power being used for the Stanford project (when you are not gamin and such).

Sony has succeeded in making a truly great heart of your home media experience. This is so much more than Wii it isn’t even close. And with Blu-ray and free Sony playstation network, it really is a much better value than any of the 360 choices you have. Right now heading into the 2008 holiday season, PS3 stands alone as clearly the best system and the best value. Not only for gamers but for the entire family.

Envisaged as a digital entertainment centre the PS3 complements the era of high-definition televisio

Envisaged as a digital entertainment centre the PS3 complements the era of high-definition television by incorporating a Blu-ray and HDMI connectors. The console has an Internet browser, hard-disk, and acts as a true media-centre capable of playing different types of multimedia. It offers transparent connectivity with the PSP for Wi-Fi. the O/S is compatible with the Linux distributions. The online service, PlayStation Network, lets you download games and play network games free, demos, watch trailers and allows access to other services. The controller, called DualShock 3, rumbles and does motion detection providing total immersion with the genuine games. In October 2008, more than three hundred original titles were placed on the console.
The PlayStation 3 console was available in two configurations after launching a 60 GB a cheaper 40 GB model replaced it. In 2009, the models 160 GB and 80 GB are gradually coming to replace them. However, the backward compatibility of PS2 games is not unlockable.
The PlayStation 3 hardware is just as famous as being a top Blu-ray Disc drive, a format designed for HD Tv and to replace the DVD. Blu-ray storage capacity is about 25 GB of data on a single-layer disc and 50GB for a dual-layer disc. All PlayStation 3 games are burned to Blu-ray. The reader reads both Blu-ray video, DVD video, AAC audio CD as standard.

To day I find introduce you this PlayStation 3 80GB Yes, I think that interesting .

BuZZ from Customer Shopping

Plays Great, Pay Through Nose for Repeated Repairs
I was a fairly early adopter and enthusiastic supporter of the PS3, and I continue to appreciate the game play on the console. However, I am gravely disappointed by the repeated failures of the machine. Beginning just after the initial one-year warranty wore off, my console began having problems loading and playing discs. Sony’s only customer support solution was that I send the unit to their repair facility in a pre-paid mailing box, pay Sony $149 (a flat fee regardless of the nature or extent of the problem or actual cost of parts or service) and wait about two weeks for return of my unit, now lacking all of the game progress that had been saved on its hard drive, but once again functioning. This was annoying, but livable until a few months later. Beginning soon after the three-month warranty on the paid repair expired, the unit again began having problems. Again, I had to send it back. Again I had to spend $150 and wait two weeks for return of the console. This time, it came back with versions of my saved data (each marked on the menu with an asterix), but many games were unable to load with this saved data, so again game progress was lost. This second repair lasted about five months, before the current failure. The unit is now again completely unable to play any kind of disk. Sony customer service states that Sony is very strict, and will not make any accommodations, even though this is obviously a recurring problem with the console, and in my case already the the third strike since I purchased the unit. Note that my machine gets only moderate use (0-3 hours a day) in an entirely protected environment. Again Sony’s only answer is for me to pay yet another $150, again return the unit for service in the special mailing box and wait for it to come back. specifically, Sony will either repair my specific machine and send it back to me, OR send me another machine coming out of its service facility as a now “factory REFURBISHED” item of exactly the same model (at THEIR discretion). Looking at websites devoted to troubleshooting problems like mine, I see that the unit’s problem with sudden inability to read discs is very common, as is Sony’s reaction in putting the full financial burden of the machine’s defects and breakdowns on the customer. Therefore, a warning: if you buy a PlayStation 3, be prepared for very substantial costs to keep it running after the one-year warranty has expired. I for one wish I had bought the X-Box 360, particularly since I could have bought three or four of them for the money I have spent keeping one PS3 running for about 20 months to date. Unfortunately, since I’ve also invested many hundreds of dollars on PS3 games (at $60 each it adds up), I feel compelled to KEEP paying Sony off each time their console inexplicably stops working.

Game + Blueray + Free internet Game
I use it to play games but also to watch blueray movies. It’s an awesome way to watch movies. Also, you don’t have to pay to play on internet. It’s good.

Man, this thing is beautiful.
PS3 is the best there is, X-Box fans you all could go and suck it.

While looking for discounts on brand-new PlayStation 3 consoles, I found one no one would refuse to buy: a 160GB PS3 “Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune” Limited Edition Bundle at $399.99. We know its current price at $499.99, but if you want to save $100, I recommend you to visit the Dell.com web site. If the “Uncharted PS3″ edition is still too much for your pocket even with the discount, you still got another chance. The $399.99 80GB PlayStation 3 would cost you only $319.99 plus tax. Just search for “PlayStation 3″ and input the code after you make your choice of the model you wish. The code is Z0WPL1J0CC3W47 and it expires on Wednesday 3/26. What are you waiting for? Go get it now (if you don’t have one)! Dell offered this discount last month and it’s doing it again.

I have recently got the ps3 and am very happy with it! The XMB (XrosMediaBar) is very easy to navigate your way around and the ps3 is very easy to set up. The graphics on the games are very good but there is all this hype about 1080p but most games however aren’t 1080p and are more likely to be 720p. Although some of the newer games like Grand Turismo 5 will have 1080p. A good thing about the ps3 is that it is multi-functional. It can be used as a DVD player so it will read blu-ray discs and can even play normal DVD’s at a better quality. You can also use your PS3 as a media player, playing your favourite tracks and make playlists to listen to.

The touch buttons are a very nice touch (no pun intended!) and make it seem more modern and futuristic. The sleek black finish and cool writing on the front making the ps3 look awesome! PS3 have gone all out in online-gaming to try and level it to that of the Xbox. With the new innovation of PS3 Home, it unlocks a whole new path to social networking. Gamers can go to PS3 home and make a character. They can buy clothes and customise the way they look. You can play bowling, snooker or a go at the arcade games and can watch movie previews in the cinema. Sadly the Europe and other version is not very extensive. To get full use of it you must be in North America, where you can buy TV’s, new apartments, more furniture and there is even a trophy room where gamers can proudly show off their trophies won! You can barely hear the noise of the PS3 while playing games and definitely beats the 360 on this part.

The PS3 comes with many accessories including the PS3 Eye toy (pictured below),

PS3 Eye Toy

allowing you to be in the game and control your movements with special eye toy games. Another accessory is the PS3 keyboard (pictured below) which clips onto your controller and makes typing very easy rather than using the controller

PS3 Keyboard

The Play station Store allows users to download demos, extras like new maps or weapons and PSP games. Demos are usually free but other things like upgrades for your car or small games cost a small amount of money.

Now for the bad points; games can be very expensive over its main rival, the Xbox, sometimes being £10 more expensive for the same game! Be warned the PS3 is extremely heavy so do not place it on any fragile shelves!

The range of games is not nearly as vast as that of the 360 but has a fair amount ranging from the likes of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune to Resistance 2. Another bad point is the price. If you are willing to splash out £273 ($377) on an 80 GB model then all be it but the 360 elite (120 GB) is much cheaper coming in at £209 ($288).

Thought I would write about my ipod today. i have the ipod classic with 80gb memory. What a neat ga

Thought I would write about my ipod today. i have the ipod classic with 80gb memory.

What a neat gadget this is. I love to listen to podcasts.

At the moment I am working my way through the knitting ones, I love Lime and Violet a podcast for the yarn obsessed. Mind you I do have to be in a certain mood for them as they are very full on. They talk about the knitting they are doing and the stash they have bought, which by the way is enormous, surely they won’t be able to knit it all in there life times. They are up to episode 73 now and each one is over an hour long.

Also one that I have just caught up with is Letsknit2gether this is a video podcast, and is great if you only have a short while to watch, as each one is quiet short. Cat goes through her projects, and gives tips and shows you how to do different techniques. Also she visits the various Knitting shows they have in America, they are fantastic to watch, wish I could be there.

Other uses I have for my ipod is to watch TV programmes that my husband doesn’t like to watch, i recently watched all four series of Lost, and can’t wait for series five to start. I am also watching all the films I can find with George Clooney in, what a hunk, swoon…

Of course there is the option of listening to music, I have uploaded all my Cd’s to mine and still have tons of space on it.

Another great use is Audiobooks. This is a great way of listening to the authors you would like to read but don’t have time. I joined Audible.co.uk you can be a member for £7.99 a month, and for this you get to download a free book. It is very easy you download straight to your itunes account. For free books on the net try Librivox they supply audiobooks that are in the public domain. You can volunteer to read the books and have your vocal cords made famous!! They also need people to do proof listening. Their aim is to record all the books that are in the public domain, quite a task I would say. At present they have published 1,736 way to go people….Another source of podiobooks is which offers a serialised selection of books. They have 262 titles and you can choose how often you would like to download. There is a button to make donations to the authors.

I recently learnt from Revelry that you can copy files over to the ipod, which is great for coping the dreaded Kitchener stitch instructions onto to your ipod and you will probably always have it with you. You have to have your iPod set to “enable disc use” you do this in itunes by clicking on your ipod icon on the left hand side scroll down the page that appears and you have options just click “enable disc use”. You will have eject your ipod manually from itunes from now on but who cares with the benefit it brings.

Copy/paste the text you want into a blank Notepad file and save it.

Plug in iPod.

Open My Computer

Under “Devices with Removable Storage” you’ll find your “iPod”.

Click on your “iPod”, you’ll see individual folders for “Calendars”, “Contacts”…“Notes”, etc.

Copy/paste the Notepad file(s) to the “Notes” folder.

Cross fingers, say prayer.

Sync and go!

Just another way technology can mix with knitting! Just think you can have patterns on it and all sorts of other stuff…….
