All it’s been on this blog is photography, photography and MORE photography. It’s a snowy Saturday, garden virtually untouched except from the cat.
So, heres a techy post.

I read about this on Engadget.
It’s a keyboard, but inside, is a PC. It’s like the 80’s! It’s an EXTREMELY good, compact idea, only $99, so that’s about £60ish, comes with Linux, or pay $50 (£30ish) extra for XP. Comes with a 1ghz processor and 512mb of RAM. I think it’s an amazing concept. Keyboard straight into monitor, win win situation. It will either boot from SD card, or 2.5″ HDD. It has a composite video out, or VGA. It only consumes 5 watts of power! The hard drive capacity has not been released as of yet.

Public television stations nationwide will broadcast the 2009 National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony across the country for the first time. In partnership with WETA, Washington, D.C.’s flagship public broadcasting station, public television stations will begin airing the 60-minute lighting ceremony on Friday, December 4th and continue throughout the holiday season. Viewers are invited to check their local public station schedules for exact broadcast dates and times.

Presented by the National Park Service and National Park Foundation, and produced by Alex Coletti Productions, an all-star lineup of stars will offer a diverse program of holiday music, including traditional songs with dashes of pop, folk and hip-hop.

• Hip-hop artist, actor and author Common

History of the National Christmas Tree

The first National Christmas Tree, lit on December 24, 1923, in the middle of the Ellipse.

That Christmas Eve, at 5 p.m., President Calvin Coolidge walked from the White House to the Ellipse and “pushed the button” to light the cut 48-foot Balsam fir, as 3,000 enthusiastic spectators looked on. The tree, donated by Middlebury College, was from the President’s native state of Vermont.

From 1924 to 1953 live trees, in various locations around and on the White House grounds, were lit on Christmas Eve. In 1954 the ceremony returned to the Ellipse and expanded its focus. Local civic and business groups created the “Christmas Pageant of Peace.” Smaller live trees representing the 50 states, five territories, and the District of Columbia, formed a “Pathway of Peace.”

On December 17, 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower lit the cut tree donated by the people of Michigan. Cut trees continued to be used until 1973.

Center to the season’s celebration is the living National Christmas Tree, a Colorado blue spruce from York, Pennsylvania, planted on the Ellipse October 20, 1978. The tree stands as a daily reminder of the holiday spirit and of the tradition each succeeding President has participated in since 1923.

Here is 86-year-old Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams shooting a double deuce after the Titans beat the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.  This video is hilarious on so many levels, it’s rediculous.

Chega ao fim o El Ojo 2009. Em sua décima segunda edição, o maior festival de publicidade da América Latina, promovido pela revista LatinSpots, reuniu centenas de pessoas em Buenos Aires, Argentina. O hotel Hilton foi  palco para os três dias do evento, de 2 a 4, onde o Brasil foi aclamado por 86 vezes.

A principal agência do Festival foi a Leo Burnett Portugal, seguida pela brasileira AlmapBBDO. A lista é vasta. As brasileiras conquistaram 5 Grand Ojo, considerada a premiação mais valiosa em cada categoria. Também foram entregues 23 ouros, 23 pratas, 28 Bronzes e outros dois prêmios sem distinção de cor. São eles: “Melhor uso de Recursos Audiovisuais” e “O Terceiro olho”, que premia as melhores idéias.

O destaque se volta para a disputa entre AlmapBBDO e DM9DDB. Na briga direta, o resultado final é 9 ouros para a agência de Sérgio Valente, enquanto a Almap obteve 7 da mesma coloração.

Entre os Grand Ojo, a diferença também é pequena: 3 para DM9,  nas áreas de Internet, Gráfica e Outdoor com Take your Time, para Tok Stock, “Rotina”, para o Terra e Outdoor com “Cidade e País”. A Almap levou 2 GPs, na área de Cine/TV, com o filme Cachorro-Peixe, criado para a Volkswagen e Rádio, e Rádio, com “Copa de Champagne” para Escola Panamericana de Arte.

Além disso, o Brasil recebeu premiações locais. O país garantiu as cinco estatuetas que faltavam constar na lista. A Almap sagrou-se como a “Melhor Agência do Ano” no Brasil e Marcello Serpa, sócio e diretor de Criação da agencia, ganhou como melhor Diretor Criativo. A Melhor produtora brasileira foi a Vetor Zero/Lobo. Nando Cohen foi eleito o melhor Produtor e a Alpargatas Brasil venceu como “Melhor Anunciante do país”.

Diversas palestras também compuseram o El Ojo 2009. Além da entrega dos prêmios, a Organização apostou nos brasileiros. Convidou Aloísio Pinto, VP de planejamento da McCann, Fernando Campos, sócio-diretor da SantaClaraNitro, Ruy Lindenberg, VP de Criação da Leo Burnett e Sérgio Valente, presidente da DM9DDB. Outros nomes internacionais marcaram presença. David Jones, CEO da Euro RSCG Havas, Howard Draft, CEO da DraftFCB, entre outros.

It’s a driving day, people. You know what that means? I am rocking, for the first time ever, a book on tape. Or more appropriately named these days, an audio book. I have never successfully listened to one before. But I figure driving 14 hours on my own is a perfect time to start. It’ll be like reading with my ears instead of my eyes. How awesome does that sound?? (no pun intended, teehee…)

Do you want to know which book I picked? It’s ridiculous really, because I’ve never read a book by this author, and I usually think the movies are kind of mushy. But I wanted something with substance (unlike my normal teen fiction reads), I wanted it to last through the many hours of driving, and I didn’t want to listen to something I’ve already read or or seen the movie.

I present to you…  The  Last Song.

I hope it is good and not just sappy, because heaven knows it will be sappy. But perhaps it will still be good. And if I like it, I can see the movie when it comes out. Because I know it will.

Fast forward to the beginning of the Finnair story. On November 1st, 1923, consul Bruno Lucander founded a pioneering company called Aero. As soon as the following year Aero made its first flight from Helsinki to Tallinn using a 4-passenger Junkers F13 aircraft, equipped with skis in winter and floats in summer.

We no longer land on skis, but we operate with one of the world’s most modern fleets. Our airline is now 86 years old, but we are in tune with the times in terms of both aircraft and attitude. Today Finnair’s scheduled traffic covers 9 long-haul destinations in Asia and New York in North America, as well as more than 40 city destinations in Europe.

Building the bridge between Europe and Asia has been the aim of the expanding Finnair – a strategy supported by Finland’s favorable geographical position: the shortest and most eco-efficient route from Europe to Asia passes via Helsinki. Our modern fleet with the Airbus A340 and A330 wide-bodied aircraft carries us far into the future.

And behind us is a long and distinguished past. Finnair, 86 years old on November 1st, is one of the world’s longest-established airlines.

Ghirardelli Intense Dark Midnight Reverie 86% cacao is sooo chocolately! 86% is about as high a cocoa content you can eat neat. It’s in that heavenly point between the extreme chocolate taste and the inedible – if you go much higher, it’s really not possible to eat it. The deep chocolate flavour is strong and intense. It’s a long, dry, crisp chocolate which leaves a long aftertaste. One of these small, slim pieces is just perfect for a chocolate hit. We were given this by a friend who visited Hawaii, so you may have to travel a long way for this one.

This has been a very productive week. I have accomplished 2 goals, and have made progress on several others.

32. Play Laser Tag- we had this free event at college this weekend and we could play laser tag for free. It wasn’t super intense or anything, but it was still really fun. I came in 3rd out of the 8th people we played. One of my friends told me there is one near where he lives that has castles in it and everything, so we might be taking a trip soon

86. Read an entire book in a bookstore. A couple of my friends and I decided it would be fun to go to Borders and look at children’s books since we had an hour to kill. I ended up reading Where the Wild Things Are, a beloved book from my childhood and then one of my friends read the book Yay You to us.

In this poignant video below, 86 year old Philip Spooner, who is a life long resident of Maine and a Republican, speaks out on the reason we need marriage equality in this country. The fight for marriage equality in Maine is coming up in two weeks. If the “No on 1” campaign is successful, Maine will become the first state in the nation to successfully defend marriage equality in the voting booth.

Get this video out to as many people as you can.

Transcript: Good morning, Committee. My name is Phillip Spooner and I live at 5 Graham Street in Biddeford. I am 86 years old and a lifetime Republican and an active VFW chaplain. I still serve three hospitals and two nursing homes and I also serve Meals on Wheels for 28 years. My wife of 54 years, Jenny, died in 1997. Together we had four children, including the one gay son. All four of our boys were in the service. I was born on a potato farm north of Caribou and Perham, where I was raised to believe that all men are created equal and I’ve never forgotten that. I served in the U.S. Army, 1942-1945, in the First Army, as a medic and an ambulance driver. I worked with every outfit over there, including Patton’s Third Army. I saw action in all five major battles in Europe, and including the Battle of the Bulge. My unit was awarded Presidential Citations for transporting more patients with fewer accidents than any other ambulance unit I was in the liberation of Paris. After the war I carried POW’s back from Poland, Hungary, and Yugoslavia, and also hauled hundreds of injured Germans back to Germany.

I am here today because of a conversation I had last June when I was voting. A woman at my polling place asked me, “Do you believe in equal, equality for gay and lesbian people?” I was pretty surprised to be asked a question like that. It made no sense to me. Finally I asked her, “What do you think our boys fought for at Omaha Beach?” I haven’t seen much, so much blood and guts, so much suffering, much sacrifice. For what? For freedom and equality. These are the values that give America a great nation, one worth dying for.

I give talks to eighth grade teachers about World War II, and I don’t tell them about the horror. Maybe [inaudible] ovens of Buchenwald and Dachau. I’ve seen with my own eyes the consequences of caste systems and it make some people less than others, or second class. Never again. We must have equal rights for everyone. It’s what this country was started for. It takes all kinds of people to make a world war. It does make no sense that some people who love each other can marry and others can’t just because of who they are. This is what we fought for in World War II. That idea that we can be different and still be equal.

My wife and I did not raise four sons with the idea that three of them would have a certain set of rights, but our gay child would be left out. We raised them all to be hard-working, proud, and loyal Americans and they all did good. I think it’s too bad those who want to get married, they should be able to. Everybody’s supposed to be equal in equality in this country. Let gay people have the right to marry. Thank you
