What were you thinking Al Pacino?!?!?! Jack Gramm (Al Pacino)– a college professor and occasio

What were you thinking Al Pacino?!?!?!

Jack Gramm (Al Pacino)– a college professor and occasional forensic psychologist for the FBI– finds himself in a race against time when he receives a mysterious phone call telling him he has exactly 88 minutes left to live. Can he track down his would-be killer before the clock runs out?

About 15 minutes into this piece of junk I literally wanted to turn away, and spend a better time of 88 minutes counting to 5,208. As this film started to continue on I actually wondered to myself could this be Al Pacino’s worst film? Then the answer came to me, and it was a HELL YES!!!

There are so many problems with this film that it’s actually hard to say them all in one bite. The whole film is just so outlandishly confusing, and half of the times while I was watching this I was really confused of what was actually going on. Either that or I just wasn’t interested enough.

The film is called 88 Minutes, and to be truly honest it should’ve been that long cause although it was about 1 hour and 48 minutes it felt like a 3 hour film, and at times I really didn’t have a clue where they were trying to get at with this movie. It’s slow as snail pace never really picks up and isn’t very exciting for a thriller, and half of the time I even forgot how much longer Pacino had to live. Instead of actually looking for the person that tries to kill him, Pacino’s character is too busy having feelings about a dozen old flames, talking about a previous case, and just way too busy answering his phone for dumb crap that have nothing to do with his life.

Al Pacino does try his hardest despite this lousy script, but he still fails in so many ways. He just doesn’t feel right in this movie at all. If I had about 88 minutes to live, I think I would be a little more frantic then just going around and dropping dumb lines like, “What the hell!!!”, or “Who is this”, every time I get a call. Pacino not very convincing in his role although I will at least give him props for trying.

This film was advertised as a huge action-packed thriller, and it wasn’t that one bit. The film tried to keep me on the edge of my seat and not once was I on the edge of my seat, and if I was it was to go to the bathroom and take time from watching this piece of crap.

Consensus: 88 Minutes tries to act like a suspense thriller, that features no suspense, confusion throughout, and just not a very convincing from Al Pacino. Surely one of the worst movies I have ever seen, and one of Pacino’s worst.

0/10=STAY AWAY!!!!!!

When you see Al Pacino’s name above the title of a film you really do expect it to be something special or at least good right? Of course he has built up a fantastic reputation for himself over the years. But 88 Minutes while he is decent, it really lacks something. What annoyed me the most in this film was the constant phone calls, it was like i’ll call you back then his phone ringing. Just shows how technology can ruin the movies too! While watching I thought Orange had eventually go there wish and a movie revolved around mobile phone conversations. (UK cinema-goers will get this, because of the adverts on before the film starts).

Its a murder mystery which has been done on many ocassions before, I will admit that my guess on who was helping out the convict was indeed wrong but I was pretty close in all honesty. But I did not really care enough about this film to be really that bothered by the ending. I think Neal McDonough makes a very good killer, he really creeps me out. Especially after his character in “Desperate Housewives” he was just a total psycho in that too !!!

So this movie was just really lacking stronger character’s in my opinion, as thinking of the basic plot of a man being told he has 88 minutes to live. That really does sound like it could be a good movie, Pacino wasnt bad, but can he really ever be bad? I was in the minority enjoying “Righteous Kill” and love Pacino in that. But he wasn’t as loveable in this movie. Yes I realise loveable is not the direction in which this movie was going for. However, in a movie like this you really do have to care about the main character’s or it does not work as well. I don’t think some of the support cast were the best picked for this film either, they were just not quite there yet.

Let’s hope Pacino’s next film venture makes up for the bad taste this film leaves in your mouth.

The Bunker (2001)
Now this had potential – a small group of German soldiers in the Ardennes in 1944 holed up in a pill box above a series of dark and foreboding tunnels, which proves to be a portent to terror. It could have been The Keep; it turned out more Deathwatch. A shame, because there were interesting themes and a pretty good cast (Andrew Tiernan, Chris Fairbank, Simon Kunz, Andrew Lee Potts, and, erm, Jack Davenport, Jason Flemyng and Charley Boorman; I guess Eddie Marsan could have swung either way). Tighter directorial attention to the acting than to the shadows would have done this film the world of good, I suspect. Too much of it involves conscious acting rather than natural reacting. The flashback sequences are very efficient.

Anzio
Bloody awful and uninvolving war movie featuring two of my favourite screen actors, Robert Mitchum and Peter Falk, about 1944’s lesser known amphibious invasion of Europe. Not seen this since I was a nipper, and in my memory I always associated the Operation Shingle landings at Anzio with the Ardennes offensive of the Battle of the Bulge, possibly because they each spawned bloated, boring films. Horrible 60s score too!

Charlie Wilson’s War
Tom Hanks as a US Congressman who funds the mujahideen fighting the Soviet army in Afghanistan. Interesting, but possibly not one that is going to be remembered as a classic. Philip Seymour Hoffman continues in his life mission to PSHify every supporting role in Hollywood to jittery mumblers who talk over other actors’ lines as a maverick CIA agent who breaks the rules and does things his way, etc.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith
Never seen it before, and I don’t think I will again, willingly. A clumsy mess of dull exposition, extended toy adverts and shonky CGI. Though the scenes with Palpatine and Anakin did have promise. As I said to the LLF, they took a wrong turning tracing back the Skywalker story, when Han Solo was what people liked the most about the original films.

Hart’s War
Colin Farrell is a rear echelon Ivy Leaguer who accidentally ends up captured during the Battle of the Bulge in 1944; Bruce Willis is the Westpoint career soldier running the POW camp he ends up in. All about moral codes and sense of duty, with Tuskegee airmen the real life point of interest. Sort of a grittier, less pleasant modern retelling of Stalag 17, with a strong theme of racism supplanting class antagonism. Not great, but certainly impressive. But then at a cost of $70million, would anything less be acceptable?

88 Minutes
Honestly, this is not a good film. For once the IMDb comments seem mostly on the nail. Pacino is a raspy, rascally, randy professor of forensic psychiatry who moonlights as a profiler for the FBI. A man he helped convict for multiple murders and rapes is about to die in the execution chamber… But wait! A bunch of fresh victims have all just been found killed in circumstances similar to his modus operandi! Maybe he’s not really the killer! And to top it all off, our horny prof has received a phonecall telling him he has eighty-eight minutes left to live! Etc, etc, etc… The poster for this film unforgivably harks back to those for Scarface and Carlito’s Way, which both – for each their flaws – are far superior to this lifeless pile of cinematic afterbirth.

Frost/Nixon
Michael Sheen (the slow dude from Gallowglass and latterly your go-to guy anytime you want a Tony Blair) is playboy talk show host David Frost, Frank ‘Skeletor’ Langella is disgraced warmongering Quaker president Tricky Dicky Nixon. Ron Howard directs, and for the first half it’s good, gripping stuff, but the contrived structure of the third act – trying to create a false ‘victory’ – lets it down.

Runaway Jury
Actually rather a good, fun, exciting John Grisham legal twist thriller – John Cusack, Gene Hackman, Rachel Weisz and Dustin Hoffman all ham things up nicely in this New Orleans courtroomer about a lawsuit filed against a gun company and the latter’s recourse to an amoral jury consultant to win them the case. The Jeremy Piven character seems somewhat pointless though.

Star Wars (or Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope if you really must)
Special Edition CGI sucks.

The Empire Strikes Back (or Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back if you insist)
Icy Hoth, sleeping in a dead tauntaun, wampa attack, AT-ATs, Boba Fett (ship looks like a prawn), Lando, betrayal, Yoda on Dagobah, hand losing, “I am your father”, carbonite sleep, etc.

Return Of The Jedi (or Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi, though I can’t say I approve)
Bounty hunters, metal bikini, Jabba the Hutt, skiff, Sarlacc, Yoda dying, new Death Star, teddy bears Ewoks, speeder bikes, etc.

Semi-Pro
Yet another Will Ferrell jockcom, this time round about a crappy basketball team trying to secure a place in the NBA. Woody Harrelson, André ‘3000′ Benjamin and Maura Tierney (Abby the ER nurse/doctor who looks like a stroke-ridden cousin of Friends‘ Rachel) add a little class, Will Arnett and Andrew Daly are in the Waldorf/Statler chairs.

Defiance
Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber as battling Bielski brothers, running a band of Jewish partisans in the forests of Eastern Poland in WW2. An interesting story but a plodding film. Interesting to see director Edward Zwick borrowing/homaging visual and sound motifs from Elem Klimov’s Idi I Smotri.

Alien Versus Predator: Requiem
Honestly, avoid. The first AvsP flick was bad enough. Yautja hunts xenomorphs in contemporary America; lots of dull septics die.

Its a feel, that when you are fond of writting and you dont get any spare time to write a blog.. Thats quite crazy. Well the reason is i have downloaded a bunch of alpacino’s movies to get me busy this weekend. So when i thought of writting it suddenly came to my mind to share some of alpacino’s movie that i have watched this weekend

The List of Movies Include

1. Two For the Money.

2. 88 Minutes.

3. The Insider.

4. The Recurit.

5. Ever Favourite “God Father” – 3 Sequences

To say something in short he brings into scene a sort of liveliness in the character. If u have watched two for the money, his acting is damn appealing. He brings enegry to the movie.

Dont get me crazy with this post. I just imagined in expressing my thought. To say its just a thought.

I am so sad that our spring break is almost over. Sterling and I have done nothing but sleep and watch movies. It has been wonderful. We’ve pretty much had a week long slumber party as Sterling would say. I feel a little ashamed because I feel like we should have done something a little more productive, but oh well i guess. At least I can give you blogreaders some movie advice. Over the week we saw… In the Electrist Mist, Changeling, Iron Man, Accepted, Quarantine, The Secret Life of Bees, Righteous Kill, 88 Minutes, Taken, and The Uninvited.

Taken and The Uninvited are still in the theatre and are both excellent choices. Both are kind of suspenseful/scary, and have really good story-lines.

In the Electric Mist, Righteous Kill, and 88 Minutes are all really good ones as well and are kind of murder mystery, suspenseful type movies. Righteous Kill was my fav of these because I mean how could a movie with Al Pacino AND Robert DeNiro be anything short of awesome. Electric Mist was really good too with Tommy Lee Jones.

Quarantine was freaky and gorey but I really liked it anyway. It is very suspenseful and creepy.

Accepted was super stupid. If you are in the mood for something brainless, watch it.

Iron Man is amazing, this was my 2nd time to watch it. I thought since i wasn’t into like the hulk and stuff like that, I wouldn’t like this movie, but trust me, it is a good one.

The Secret Life of Bees and Changeling were my absolute favs. Secret life of Bees was a really good story and Dakota Fanning was awesome! Changeling was superb. The story was so incredible and it is true. Definitely check into this one. All the actors in this one are very good and believable in their part.

Let me know if there is something else I should check out or see, I do have one more day of spring break!

Directed by: Jon Avnet. Cast: Al Pacino, Alicia Witt, Leelee Sobieski, William Forsythe, Deborah Kara Unger. Rated: R. Running Time: 108 minutes.

It seems like a topsy turvy world where an Al Pacino movie doesn’t make the grade, but I have to say that this was the case with 88 Minutes. I can’t in all conscience say that the acting was terrible as far as anyone went – the fault was all in the story. It was pretty standard fare with a criminal psychologist getting threatened, having to solve a murder, and a criminal trying to make sure he didn’t get executed for murder by making it look like the real murderer was still at large.

For me it was the ending that didn’t sell it for me – the ending ruined the film; made the whole enterprise a waste of time. Yeah, it’s one of those – you might be happy sitting through it, because it is watchable, has a few twists and turns to keep your interest, but as far as I’m concerned all that was thrown away on the ending.

Do I feel more cheated if a film had promise and cocks it up at the end than I do if it is bad the whole way through? Maybe. If the film had been brilliant all the way through then I would have wanted to put my foot through the screen, but that wasn’t the case – Pacino’s hair gives a better performance than he does (half the budget must have gone on hairspray). This is a film you should avoid spending money on if you can – wait for it to come on TV, don’t make the effort to get it on video or on cable. There are better films to spend on, some of them with Al firing on all cylinders.

A tell-tale sign that you’re enmeshed in a ridiculous movie? When a scene calls for you, Oscar winner Al Pacino, to shout about your semen and that you’ve been goshdarned framed. Get this: the dastardly villain siphons Al Pacino’s semen out of a murdered hooker, heads over to his student’s pad, kills her, and then deposits the semen in her!

Yesterday was such a great day – although the rain came and put a damper on our original plans

Yesterday was such a great day – although the rain came and put a damper on our original plans, the husband and I really got to enjoy a great day!

When I got back from my dress fitting and food shopping, I decided I should probably eat something substantial to hold me over until dinner. I had a lovely mixture of Fiber One, Kashi Heart to Heart, pumpkin seeds, banana, and skim milk. It definitely hit the spot!

We decided to go to the mall and walk around there and then I let him choose where we could go to dinner at – he selected Chilli’s which I was excited about because it meant that I could try the whole “guiltless” options that I read about in Hungry Girl all the time! Bill loves the boneless buffalo wings there so we started with them – I had three and they were ultra hot! For my entree I selected the Guiltless Chicken Sandwich. Believe it or not, it was actually really yummy! I LOVED how there were black beans on the side and I gobbled them up first

After dinner we were stuffed so we decided to head home and watch a movie. We chose 88 minutes, which was a really good suspenseful movie but REALLY freaky and sick. Then we watched a whole bunch of SNL in an effort to stay up until midnight when the husband’s official birthday began. At 11:59, I surprised him with a Reese’s Peanut Butter mini cheesecake that I picked up from the bakery earlier and I sang Happy Birthday. I forgot to take a picture of the dessert in all of it’s glory and remembered to once we started picking at it haha – it was delicious!

Now I’m off to start making a surprise birthday breakfast in bed and then we are heading out for a fun day. I’ll be back tonight with the recap! Have a great one

Programmer and I had date #25 last night, close on the heels of Thursday night’s date #24. Aft

Programmer and I had date #25 last night, close on the heels of Thursday night’s date #24.

After a fairly late night on Thursday, and knowing that he’d be working today, we agreed that last night’s date was going to have a curfew.

So, we went for dinner at Burger King, and had some weirdness over paying… he went in line first and ordered, then said “that’s it” and paid for his food. Okay, probably not 100% weird, but we do normally treat each other. I guess he’s already starting to get very concerned about money, and doesn’t quite feel comfortable yet.

After dinner, we went back to his place, and watched the movie 88 Minutes. Sadly, we both agreed that that had to be one of the most boring action movies ever made. Yuck! The company was, once again, the highlight of the entire thing. I will say though, LeeLee Sobieski has changed a lot from her innocent teen character in Deep Impact!

We laid on the couch for a while afterwards, and when our midnight curfew came up, I think we both had a difficult time convincing ourselves that it would be for the best. *sigh* You know, this was the first Saturday morning in a very long time that I haven’t woken up next to him.

I hate to say it, but I’m starting to get a little frustrated that he’s not tuned into the regular boyfriend things… like saying “you look nice”, or smell nice or whatever. I wonder if there’s a way I can kind of hint that those things are still missing, and that I’d like them at least once in a while – especially when he gets that kind of thing from me fairly often.

Today, I’ve kept things quite close to home, and didn’t leave my apartment once, and that’s quite a change from our usual weekends now. I did get to finish all of season one of Lost, and I’m hoping that I’ll be able to finish all the old episodes by the time it starts up again in January.

For tomorrow’s date, I think we’re going to watch some MythBusters, and some Canada’s Worst Driver… and I’ll see if I can maybe convince him to go for a nice little walk before it gets too cold out.

This movie is a thriller about a college professor, Dr. Ghram (played by Al Pacino) who also works as a forensic psychiatrist for the FBI, receives a death threat telling him that he has only 88 minutes to live. In narrowing down possible suspects, he frantically seeks to communicate with his close students, colleges, a one night stand, and a “serial killer” who is in prison and is on death row because of Dr. Ghrams testimony.

This movie involves crime, drama, and is an absolute thriller. I thoroughly enjoyed it because I have not seen many good suspense/thrillers lately. This plot is fairly easy to follow (this is coming from someone who asks a million questions during a movie) and is extremely interesting. The script and ending was not at all predictable and the scenes and deaths were not “cheesy” or unrealistic. It kept me guessing until the very end of the movie. I would give this movie an 8.5 out of 10, but would definitely recommend it to anyone in the mood for that type of movie. A must see, especially in this period where there haven’t been many good movies made!!

Touch of Frost, A 8.01 Mind Games (2008)

Frost revisits an emotive case he worked on as a sergeant when the killer of two 14-year-old girls is released after twenty years in prison. His other case sees the bloody murder of a motivational psychologist but he can’t see the wood for the trees on either case.

5/10

While the cast is fine, David Jason and a strong enough story is once more undone by less-than-dynamic director Paul Harrison (Diamond Geezer and A Royal Affair), with whom Jason has worked with almost exclusively for several years now. A bit like Al Pacino making more than one film with talentless Jon Avnet (88 Minutes and Righteous Kill) you’ve got to wonder why. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Presumably there’s a sense of comfort for these elderly stars (Jason and Pacino are 68). Sadly, Paul Harrison’s clumsy half-hearted direction removes all guile and tension from the script and it is left to star David Jason to carry things. He does but there is a lack of the humour and humanity that A Touch of Frost has regularly employed to good effect.

This Touch of Frost, A episode contains mild swear word and very gory and unpleasant scenes, violence, inferred strong gun violence and non-sexual nudity, sensuality.
