Dear Donna and Kelly,

OMG!  I totally walked by your beach house the other day.  It hasn’t changed a bit.  The blue awnings are still there and the balcony where Dylan kissed you, Kelly, stands just as it once did, with a view of the Pacific.

I can’t believe it’s been so long since you all lived there.  What has it been, like ten years or something?  Donna, I hear you’re traveling the world with David, promoting your fashion line and Kelly, I hear you’re back at West Beverly guiding the new class.  With all the drama you faced in High School, I bet the kids love you for your ability to relate.  Remember the sleepover at Brenda’s where you told us all about the time you lost your virginity and how you had to constantly live up to that “fast girl” reputation.  That must’ve been tough, but I’m so glad you made it through everything and all turned out all right, well except that stint you had with a cocaine addiction and the fire where you got burned and the time you got shot… man if ever there were a girl who could complain about her life it would be you.  But you didn’t.  You just kept going.  That’s what I like about you, exactly the kind of attitude I’m trying to adopt right now.  And Donna, oh, you and your sweet innocence and naivety when it came to men and sex – god how I idolized you back in the day.

Rumer será Gia, uma estudante que entra para a equipe de “jornalistas” da escola e logo bate o olho em Adrianna, a jovem mãe adolescente interpretada pela bonitinha da Jessica Lowndes. O blog Socialite Life postou então algumas fotos das gravações de cenas em que as duas já são vistas contracenando.

Thanksgiving is tough.  There’s all the forced closeness with relatives you don’t necessary get along with.  There’s the pressure to be happy every minute.  There’s the unending barrage of food which just leads to crash dieting come January.  On a day we’re supposed to spend being thankful, a lot of people end up just being thankful when it’s over.

I remember going out to the bars Thanksgiving night back when I didn’t have kids and they were always packed.  My bartender friends swore it was because after a day of family everyone needs a drink.  That’s pretty sad but pretty accurate.

The year my son Mac was born we hosted Thanksgiving at our house for Bobby’s family.  I had a friend who didn’t want to go home for the holiday because she wasn’t getting along with her dad, so I invited her to join us.  We were all having a nice time when my then 2 year old nephew slipped off the couch and bumped his head.  He wasn’t seriously hurt but his parents started arguing over who was to blame for the fall.  Their argument got louder and louder, until my friend finally looked at me, raised her glass of wine, and said “Okay, now this is Thanksgiving”.

I think that about sums up how the holiday usually turns out, because even when you’re with the people you love, none of us are part of the Cosby family.  We’ve all got our drama. Some people are just better at hiding it.  I’ve never been good at hiding anything and that’s why I don’t have a perforated bleeding ulcer. Keep it all inside and it’ll find its way out somehow.  And when it does, it’ll be ugly.

So in the spirit of a real life Thanksgiving, with warts and truth and lots of alcohol, here are just a few of the things I’m thankful for this year.

1. I’m thankful that I’m not Miley Cyrus’s PR manager who was surely fired after Miley made a complete ass of herself during a recent interview.  When asked about the line in her song Party in the USA where she sings “that’s when the taxi man turned up the radio and a Jay-Z song was on. So I put my hands up, they’re playing my song….”

The interviewer asked “so, Miley, what is the Jay-Z song you’re referring to?”

And Miley answered “oh, I don’t know any Jay-Z songs”.

Her PR manager couldn’t have supplied her with “H to the Izzo” or “99 Problems” or that new duet with Alicia Keys, before she sat down in the hot seat?  I know my girl Denise Royer would have hooked Miley up.  Hey Denise, I think there’s a job opening in the Cyrus camp.

 2. I’m thankful that Kelly and her mom, Jackie, were able to make amends before Jackie died last week on 90210.  There’s no question that Jackie was a horrible mother, but if she had died without making up with her, Kelly would never have been able to live with herself.

3. I’m thankful that somebody finally made a movie about Nelson Mandela (Invictus in theaters Dec 11th) and cast Morgan Freeman because there’s no role he was more born to play.  And I love myself some sports movies! 

4. I’m thankful that Daniel Snyder has ruined the Redskins because it enables me to feel less guilty about cheering for the Ravens now that they have Michael Oher starting and I’ve seen The Blind Side.

5. I’m thankful for Sandy Infante’s salsa, Holly Bone’s Christmas cookies, Pat Noel’s laugh and Fissy Santo’s fashion sense because all of those things make my life better.

6. I’m thankful for the invention of  “The Perfect Push Up” and “The Perfect Pull Up” because they make my husband’s arms just as buff as Sylvester Stallone’s in Over the Top.  And that’s hot.

7. I’m thankful that I have boys because as wild as they are now and as hard as the days can be, give me ten years and then I can sit back and watch as all the parents of girls fight over short skirts and make up and boyfriends.

8. I’m thankful for my dad because in a family where every one else took the easy way out, he stuck around and there’s no one I’d rather be left with.

9. I’m thankful for Band Aid and their seasonal reminder of how good I have it.  Nothing brings it home more than the lyrics “And the Christmas bells that ring there, are the clanging chimes of doom.  Well, tonight thank God it’s them, instead of you”. 

10. And most of all, I’m thankful for all the imperfect people in my life.  Because that’s what Thanksgiving is all about. Embracing what you have, not wishing you had something else.

So thank you, Charlie, for taking two hours to hump yourself to sleep every night and throwing all your food on the floor.

Thank you, Mac, for turning bed time into a knock down drag out fight and refusing to have your Wolverine like toe nails clipped

And thank you, Bobby, for conveniently losing your phone every time you leave the house with Rossi and telling our son to call me “Mrs. Crankypants”.

You’re all perfect and I don’t know what I’d do without you.

De super empolgadas que estamos vamos fazer um post para inspirar toda a galere que quer se montar e se jogar no próximo sábado!

Quando pensamos em anos 90 milhares de referencias vem a cabeça, flanela, macacões, aquelas calças da Adidas com botoes do lado, jeans tradicional, catsuits ( graças a Michelle Pfeiffer como Catwoman), Spice Girls (paixão), George Michael e as supermodelos, Guerra do Golfo, pochete, um pouco de fluor e cabelos coloridos mal pintados, um pouco tambem de tie dye e claro, muita Madonna com o sutiã de Jean Paul Gaultier! A última referencia que lembramos é a do grunge, que  foi, sem dúvida, a mais marcante, talvez pela intencidade dos acontecimentos que envolveram o grunge na mídia e na vida das pessoas.

Se você quer se montar com base nos 90’s é facil, pensa no “Barrados no Baile”, no Batman e Gotham City, na Victoria Beckham e seus macacoes de PVC com botas altissimas, no exagero britanico de Geri Halliwell, na Courtney Love bem loka, no Kurt Cobain e seus cardigas e flanelas.

Outra super inspiração e o filme Trainspotting, ele mostra a despreocupação da época, e a mudança do pensamento das pessoas na época dos clubbers smile.

O que importa e que nos anos de hoje, podemos nos trajar como quem quisermos, seja tipo Mark Renton ou Catwoman e sentir um pouco de nostalgia em relacao a um tempo que nao volta mais, por isso se monte e se jogue na Babalu de sábado!

UPDATE

I was at Barnes and Noble when it opened its doors at 9am. The sales clerks in the DVD section had no idea what I was talking about but eventually located a copy with a retail price of $59.99.

Unlike the covers for the previous few seasons, this one doesn’t feature a cast shot but rather individual pictures of the characters. Staring out from the center is Hilary Swank (Carly). I’ve been complaining about this ever since the art was first released as Swank was only in 16 episodes. Sure, she was billed as a lead character (and hired to be in the whole season) but with limited cover space, that spot should’ve gone to Vincent Young (Noah), who was not only in every episode of the season but also seasons 9 and 10. I’ve been told the decision to put Swank front and center was a marketing decision designed to capitalized on the Oscar winner’s recognition factor. Apparently that applies to the individual disc covers as well as Swank is also featured prominently on one of those while this time the MIA actor is Brian Austin Green (David), who’s been with the series since Day 1.

The back cover also doesn’t feature Young but manages to include him and everyone else in the description (though in a different order than the opening credits): “The Real World: 90210…School is over and the friends of Beverly Hills 90210 are discovering that life after graduation is not as easy as they thought! Come along with Brandon (Jason Priestley), Kelly (Jennie Garth), Donna (Tori Spelling), David (Brian Austin Green), Steve (Ian Ziering), Val (Tiffani Amber Thiessen), Noah (Vincent Young), and Carly (Hilary Swank) as they explore love and life outside of college in all 30 titillating episodes of Season 8. Experience Kelly’s recovery from a drive-by shooting, Brandon and Kelly’s wedding plans, and Donna’s drug overdose. It doesn’t take long for the gang to discover that the real world can be just as unpredictable as college.”

The set contains 7 discs with descriptions on the back of the individual cases. It’s pretty much a given there’s going to be errors (or, at the very list, vague summaries that miss the key points) but there are some doozies here! (1) “Racial lyrics lead David’s band, After Dark, into problems.” First off, the band wasn’t David’s–he was pseudo-managing them. But more importantly, After Dark is the name of the club that’s been on the show since season 5, not the name of the band (which was actually called Cain Was Able). (2) Continuing with the band name errors, they say “a member of Jasper’s Legend tries to sue Noah after a car accident” but the band was called Jasper’s Law. (3) We’ve got a serious reversal of events when they say “Valerie accuses Noah of date rape when she wakes up without any memory of the night before…and Donna and David get into a car accident.”  Considering Donna and David’s interaction is partly the catalyst for Valerie and Noah even sleeping together, the order is crucial. (4) And the biggest error comes in the description for the two-part series finale: “Kelly takes an AIDS test after she comes into contact with the blood of an HIV patient. Trying to calm their new female news achor, Brandon ends up getting her drunk. Mel issues David an ultimatium. Valerie anxiously awaits her HIV test results. Brandon and Kelly have some very big news for their invited guests a few hours before the wedding.” The first half of that (from “Kelly…” to “…ultimatium” is from an episode in season 7! That’s right, folks. How a description for an episode that wasn’t even in this season–and wasn’t even a season finale, for that matter–ended up merged with the description for the actual season finale is beyond me. And, just to be totally accurate, Brandon and Kelly had their “surprise” *at* the wedding, not hours before.

Also worth mentioning is the pamphlet advertising other shows on DVD, including 90210: The First Season. The description reads: “New Drama. Same Zip. There’s a new generation in town, and they’re turning up the heat at West Beverly High. For hook-ups, break-ups, drug busts, and betrayals, 90210 is the place to go for the ultimate in guilty pleasures! Packed with Special Features.”

Unfortunately, this set isn’t “packed with special features.” Just as it was with season 7, my biggest complaint is the absence of special features altogether. I can only hope they are making some kick-ass ones for a complete series release. (And if there’s no complete series release, I’ll be hella pissed.)

Season 9 comes out in February.

We say yes, and so does Ben McKenzie: “People just need to watch it, and after 15 minutes, you’ll decide whether you like it or not. If you’re into a sort of grittier, darker cop show without the sheen that a lot of networks put on their shows, you’ll like it. It’s very character driven, it’s hard-hitting, there’s a lot of action, but there’s also some romance, so it’s a real show you can follow week to week.” And maybe if you start watching, TNT will take note and order up some more episodes (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).

Monica in New Orleans: Anything good coming up on Gossip Girl?
Chuck is going to visit Bart’s grave on the anniversary of his death, and when he gets there, he won’t be the only one paying his respects. Any guesses on who’ll pop up? I’m hearing that not one but two family members could be making surprising returns.

Irene in Newport News, Va.: I’m loving White Collar! Any scoop?
Ever since the White Collar pilot, we’ve found that the everyday eps of this USA series have been a smidgen flimsier than we’d like, but the midseason finale on Dec. 4 is the sharp and snappy standard we’d like to see from the show. What happens? Well, Neal (Matthew Bomer) is finally confronted with a criminal nemesis worthy of his talents, Elizabeth Burke’s (Tiffani Thiessen) presence on the show starts to make sense, and there is a huge (huge!) reveal about Agent Burke (Tim McKay) that involves something pretty important from Neal’s past.

In memory of last week’s loss of the one and only Jackie Taylor, I thought the next few days should be reserved for revisiting other shocking deaths in the teen drama genre.

Some of these death scenes were shocking because they came out of nowhere.

Others blew us away simply because of who it was that died.

In other cases, it was the pure tragedy that chilled us to our bones.

This week, we pay tribute.

I received this little piece of heaven in our mailbox last week:

Yes – 90210 will be filming 5 houses down from our apartment!!!! Many things have been filmed in our sleepy town of El Segundo, including Dude, Where’s My Car?, Superbad, & The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Living in LA you see lots of things being filmed, mostly car commercials, but I still get so excited every time I see those white trucks and talent trailers! Now, I just have to wait and see what cast members will be participating in the “two-person dialogue”!?!?!

Luego de su primera temporada donde la serie 90210 vio pasar todos los problemas imaginables en torno a los adolescentes, más mucho dinero, la secuela de la popular serie de los años noventa creada por Aaron Spelling estrena su 2da temporada en la señal del cable  Sony en medio de controversias.

Cambia de horario, serán ahora los martes cuando los dramas en West Beverly Hills High School lleguen a la pantalla chica. Para los protagonistas de la serie: Annie, Naomi, Silver, Adriana, Ethan, Dixon y Navid las cosas no serán fáciles. A su regreso a clases después de un largo verano se verán sorprendidos por la llegada de nuevos compañeros.

Para tormento de los galanes de la escuela Teddy (Trevor Donovan) llegará a poner las hormonas de las chicas a tope. El nuevo jugador de tenis del colegio será el nuevo objetivo de algunas de las estudiantes, mientras que Gia, (Rumer Willis) una nueva estudiante de tendencia homosexual será una pieza clave en el periódico del colegio.

Hasta en las mejores familias
Resulta difícil pensar que son muchos los jóvenes que adquieren la independencia de los padres para vivir una vida sin reglas, 90210 va más allá de la premisa y se aleja, incluso de la historia que en los noventas también se convirtiera en escándalo. La segunda temporada de la nueva versión trajo a la pantalla chica la exposición de casos que podrían encontrarse en cualquier lugar: adicciones, madres adolescentes, libertinaje y abandono, pero la serie sabe llevarlo de la mano con mucho glamour, la máscara favorita de las chicas de Beverly Hills.

Pese a todo, esta nueva versión no ha contado con el éxito de la primera, en la que Kelly, Brenda, Brandon, Steve, Andrea, Donna y muchos más vieron correr su vida en la preparatoria e incluso dar el salto a la universidad, además de que permanecieron en el gusto del público durante una década.

Han sido dos años los que 90210 está por cumplir y, a pesar de la herencia de la producción anterior, sus protagonistas tienen mucho trabajo por delante para demostrar que su talento puede ir más allá de estos personajes e incluso brincar a la pantalla grande.
