So, you wanna build a pc that won’t cost you an arm and a leg? a pc that do the killing in performance but not to your pocket? something that smoothly runs 3D applications and plays pc games at playable framerates? then don’t worry I’ll help you in your quest.

Goal for building this rig!
My main goal for building this rig is to buy the cheapest computer hardware components possible and not just the cheapest ones but something that is of good quality, something that is cheap but doesn’t lag in gaming or something that at least play our favorite games at playable framerates.
Next step is I gonna give you my suggestions of which computer parts you should pick.

Motherboard (Gigabyte GA-P31-ES3G)!

Computer Case!
If I am buying a computer case I will look for few things in it, first is cooling system by cooling system I mean there should be about three fans in computer case, one in the front, one in the rear and one on the side panel, second is tool free design for the ease of installation, last but not least a front panel and if it has looks that’s a plus point for me.

This ATX Mid Tower case is good choice because it’s from Cooler Master NO that was just a joke, it’s a nice case because it has one 120mm rear fan and one 80mm front fan with side panel ventilation, it’s nice because it is tool free design so you don’t need to screw your drives or expansion cards you just secure them in the place with clips instead of screws.

For your ease this case comes with front panel that consists of two USB ports, Headphone and Microphone jacks, and one Fire Wire(IEEE 1394) port. It’s all good no doubt.

CPU Cooler (Cooler Master Hyper TX2)!
Checkout this cpu cooler from Cooler Master it’s called Hyper TX2, it’s light weight (only 482 grams), cheaper yet quite effective when it comes to keeping your cpu cool. It has three heatpipes, these three heatpipes are made of copper as well as the base of this cpu cooler. Power Supply (Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU)!
Since this is not a power hungry rig you don’t need to add a power supply, the power supply that comes with your computer case should be able to provide your system enough juice to run smoothly but still if you insist on one here is my recommendation.
Thermaltake is a big name when it comes to power supplies and computer cases, for this cheap gaming rig I suggest you to go with Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU power supply which is a 500watts psu. It has enough power and enough connectors to run your new gaming system without any problems. It comes with a switch to select 115-Volts or 230-Volts. This power supply complies with ATX 12V 2.0 Version.

Nvidia GeForce GTS 250

Some Nvidia partners are reporting increased sales in last month than year 2008’s last quarter. This impressive change was the result of Nvidia’s dual gpu card GTX 295 and single gpu card GTX 285 release. Also Nvidia’s GTX 260 55nm card, 9600GT and 9500GT cards are selling well too, specially 9600GT and 9500GT 1GB versions are selling like crazy. Buyers prefer video cards with 1GB of memory instead of 512MB even though there is no performance difference at all and even if there is any advantage it’s not much noticeable.
But Nvidia isn’t stopping here, they have more plans and one of them is to rename their G92 series, which will rumoured to come next month on CeBIT 2009 trade show in Germany. First card to get a new name will be GeForce 9800 GTX+, it will renamed to GeForce GTS 250 and second card will be GeForce 9800 GT to get name GeForce GTS 240, you have been hearing about these mid-range Nvidia cards to get renamed, now next month you will probably see them, if the rumours are true. Though these cards are getting new names specifications of these graphics cards are all identical except for a new VBIOS.
I don’t get it, why re-release a video card that is already in the market? who would buy it? let’s hope they come with some improvements over GeForce 9800 GT and GeForce 9800GTX+ edition.

News of Nvidia’s enhanced version of GeForce 9600GT are surrounding on the web. This new 9600GT will be called GeForce 9600GT Green Edition. What’s new in this card? it will help you save energy, it consumes less power that’s why it’s called Green Edition. Since this card consumes less power I believe it will overclock better because less power consumption means less heat dissipation and cooler operation. This card is fabricated on 55nm process technology just like original GeForce 9600GT.
GeForce 9600GT Core Names were G94-300/G94-309 G94-350/G94-359, it’s Core Clock was 650MHz, Shader Clock was 1625MHz, Memory Clock was 900MHz and power consumption was 96W.
9600GT Green Edition Core Name will be G94-350/G94-359, Core Clock will be at 600MHz, Shader Clock at 1500MHz, Memory Clock to be exact 900MHz as GeForce 9600GT and power consumption will be 59W.
Power consumption is a whopping 37W less than it’s predecessor, also this Green Edition does not require an external power connector and it’s voltage has reduced from previous 1.1V to 1.0V. Though all this info found it’s way to web there are no words when this card will be available in market or what will be the price of this product.

I got my new BFG 9600GT from 650/1625/900 to 740/1800/1053! (It’ll fold at higher clocks, but it will produce artifacts, so I’d rather be conservative instead of producing bad science.) While I was overclocking it, I shared my thought process with one of my geekier friends. (ha ha, I are geek. :>)

Which prompted this amusing conversation:

Ps aqui ya puse la tarjeta EVGA 750i, y con la 9600gt que ya tenia ps hice este benchmark…

salio muy bien y pues me agrada el rendimiento que me dio asi, como de 15 a 21 fps, con los maximos graficos y pues las temperaturas no son para nada altas, la vga llega a los 52° y el procesador a los 50° esto en full todo…

Acabo de poner el SLI y pondre video y un benchmark, para que la chequen…

Решил воспользоваться yaourt‘ом и установить nvidia из testing’а и что-то скачалось а что-то даже установилось. Перезапустил X’ы вентиляторы покрутились, успокоились, покрутились, успокоились и опять закрутились, но не успокоились. Возникла табличка пакостная, на синем фоне и показала язык. Что-то ей ни понравилось в sli режиме..

Разборки с arch`ом и новыми драйверами, отложил на потом и загрузился в Бестрашную Цаплю (ubuntu 8.04)

Зашел на сайт nvidia:

Скачал драйвера (x86)

ctrl+alt+f1

service gdm stop #

sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.05-pkg1 –uninstall #

sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.05-pkg1

service gdm start

p.s.: пойду разбираться с Arch’ом

UPD: А разборки были недолгими – установил nvidia nvidia-utils из testing
