I came across an interesting issue arrising in the state of California. Assembly bill 962 is in regards to an ammunition ban on the largest west coast state and I can’t really decide whether this is a smart move or not. Incase you are unaware of this bill I suggest you visit the California Ammunition Ban website and read up on some of the AB 962 material before deciding whether you think this is truly something good or evil. I personally believe that there should be absolutely no ammunition ban in any state located in the United States. Anyways, California has always been harsh on these kinds of things. Look over the website, there are some excellent facts around the blog!

After 10 years of talking about it I have finally got around to my Trip down under, I made the decision last summer and left my job in aticipation at the end of August! Then around the end of October well oiled one night I got around to doing an online visa application which came through successful the following morning at a cost of approx 100 quid, that was enough stress and expense for a wee while! So come the New Year I finally got around to thinking about flights and with thanks to Brian at Crumlin Travel Club I had a one way flight booked for the 27th Feb in no time at all! So with all the spare time in between booking my flight and the 27th… I did my visiting well into the wee hours of the 27th morning John being the last to have the pleasure of me on the door step until well after 3am when I got home in true Kai fashion I started looking for my rucksac and gear to go in it, runnin about like an eejit tryin to get clothes dried etc got packed by around 8am when Brian landed around for breakfast as I hadn’t got to visit him the night before! After breakfast I fixed colin’s pressure washer and tidied a wee bit in the garage, brian headed on bout 12:30 and I got showered and changed! Needless to say I was late getting left the house but with dads swift driving via the post office to pick up some dollars (cheers brian) and mums house to lift her we got to the aiport only a few mins behind schedual, lets hope the old bill didn’t have any cameras out!

Off to check-in I went to find out they wouldn’t give me my tickets for the international leg of my trip, just the belfast to london leg (because I have two british passports long story) but when I got to London they said the boy in belfast was a prick and that it was all fine! London to HongKong was a good flight, good grub etc!

I nearly missed my flight in hongkong, got confused with the time and when I wandered down to the gate they knew me by name which I thought was pretty cool until they told me I was the last person to board, so the second I walked on the they closed the door behind me and we took off! Not sure if it had anything to do with the lashings of brandy and ginger they gave me between london and hongkong! I didn’t get 640 quids worth but I tried my best…

To be continued… …Continued

Well I landed in Sydney around 7.15 am sunday 1st March dreading the grief about two passports and my visa on the old one with the corners cut off it, but 30 seconds saw me through customs, I couldn’t believe it, he just said to drop into Imigration in the city sometime it suits you and they will put ya on the system for work etc, well i only had to wait a few moments on my bags and out to look for that old fimiliar friendly face… Well there he was not looking a day older than the last time I saw him in 2005, out to the car we went and headed straight for the Harbour Bridge, What a view tired and all as I was that was a sight for sore eyes the size of the Opera house was the most notable thing! We then headed west again for where my home is for a week or 3 and to surprise Kate, well that was very funny, Dennis phoned the house from his mobile, gave me it and brought the house phone up to kate while he put on the best surprised “Kai, Kai from Ireland, yeh I’ll put Kate on the phone for sure” so I spoke with her for a moment and then asked to hold the line as I bounced on to her bed, the facial expressions were priceless! We just caught up and chilled on Sunday…

By Elizabeth Lev

ROME, JULY 19, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI’s long-awaited apostolic letter “Summorum Pontificum” on the use of the missal promulgated by John XXIII finally came out this month to a myriad of reactions and commentary. Some have been offering Masses of thanksgiving since July 7, the day the letter was released, some have been openly critical, and others think that really not much will change.

In this document, the Holy Father decreed that any Roman Catholic priest is permitted to celebrate Tridentine Mass. Parishioners may request Masses celebrated in the “old” form.

Last week, on the anniversary of the apostolic constitution “Quo Primum,” issued July 14, 1570, as a papal bull by Pius V, it struck me how many of Rome’s astounding churches were built after the codification of the Tridentine Mass.

In this light, the return of the older form of the liturgy can help to understand and appreciate the grandeur of these churches.

In the wake of the Council of Trent, 50 new churches were built in Rome. But the one that best represents the Tridentine age is the Gesù built from 1568-1584.

Fruit of the collaboration between the newly-formed Jesuit order and Cardinal Alexander Farnese, the Gesù embodies St. Charles Borromeo’s prescriptions for sacred edifices to showcase the new spirit of the liturgy.

One of the primary concerns was acoustics, as the solemn Masses were completely sung and the sound of the chants was meant to fill the church. Trent’s decision to retain Latin as the sole language of liturgical prayer underscored the universality of the Mass in a world of ever-expanding horizons. The rites in Asia, America, Europe and Africa used the same language as Rome and linked the most far-flung areas to the See of Peter.

Sound also mattered because preaching became more important during this period. The Jesuits were instrumental in introducing greater emphasis on homilies and in the huge nave of the Gesù, there was space for hundreds to gather around the pulpit to hear their stirring preachers.

Rood screens, which separated the presbytery from the nave, were removed after Trent, to allow the congregation to see the altar and liturgy more clearly. The altar was raised up on steps and the sanctuary defined by a low rail. The faithful were awed to see the majesty of the Mass; the priest, deacon and sub deacon lined up at the altar, the clouds of incense sweetening the air and the elaborate marble tabernacle nestled in the apse. For the Rome of 1585, the Gesù was a revolutionary structure while still respecting the tradition of the early Christian Church.

The liturgy and the Church worked together to emphasize the re-presentation of the sacrifice of Christ. At the altar, placed against the wall, the celebrant recited the Eucharistic prayer in silence. From the nave, the faithful saw the priest’s numerous gestures; 27 signs of the cross, five genuflections and most significantly, the raising of the Host amid incense and ringing bells.

The altar was a block of stone, resembling a tomb or sepulcher, vividly reminding the flock of Christ’s death and burial. In the Gesù, Giovanni Battista Gaulli frescoed the initials of the Latin translation of Holy Name of Jesus — “IHS” — in a burst of light above the altar. This glorious image helped the people to understand Christ’s triumph over sin and death.

With the same intensity of St. Ignatius’ spiritual exercises, the Tridentine churches and liturgies invoked all the senses, exhorting the faithful to ” love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30).

Today, we got a big box from UPS. (It wasn’t empty, it had an order from Kohl’s.) As soon as Big Brother saw it, he begged me to help him make an airplane out of it. I said OK, admittedly a bit reluctantly. He wanted to get started immediately, but I talked him into waiting until after dinner (since it was time to make dinner).

So as Tim was putting Little Sister to bed, BB and I got out his craft box, my glue gun (at his specific request), some scissors, packing tape (his idea), and set to work. We spent about an hour designing, cutting out and decorating the airplane. We hot-glued on foam letters, rick-rack (his choice!), cut and taped various pieces of cardboard, even cut out eyeholes for him. (That’s the kind of thing you end up with when you let a 6-year-old design an airplane.) We had a blast!

Sometimes I forget.

Sometimes, in the hustle and bustle of trying to get chores done and kids taken care of, in the hope of having some free time, or spending time on the computer (even answering car seat questions on the internet), I forget how much I love doing things with BB. I forget what fun it is to spend time one-on-one with him, watching him concentrate as he carefully makes a decision, working together to accomplish a goal. I forget the feeling of watching him take the finished product in to show Tim.

I’ve got to find a way to remember.

En concreto en este destino podéis elegir entre una gran variedad de hoteles, los hay para todos los gustos, pero personalmente me quedo con estos dos: Messehotel Europe, Royal Stuttgart. donde podrás disfrutar de su estancia.

I have always wanted 12-metre buses on my home route but never had I wanted them to be the sluggish

I have always wanted 12-metre buses on my home route but never had I wanted them to be the sluggish Walter Alexander-bodied Scania L113 buses. Not only so, most (or rather all) of them have very noisy engine sounds which even the most enthusiastic engine sound recorder would despise. To top it off, the interiors are dark and gloomy, with most of them barely receiving a passing grade.

And worse, quite a handful are spare units which means even less frequent maintenance checks.

Now back to the 962, an intertown route between Woodlands and Sembawang launched on June 24, 2001. Coincidentally the second route to penetrate the new and growing Sembawang Town then, in addition to the 859. From its humble beginnings with six? rigids to what I considered its peak during the TIBS period with a full articulated bus fleet. Complete with two Volgren-bodied Mercedes Benz 0405Gs. And now back to a fleet of mixed 12-metres and Bendies.

I dont mind 12-metres on the 962. In fact, the main demand for the Bendies came from the school kids travelling between the two towns, of which Riverside Secondary should be given special mention for bringing in the crowds and subsequently Bendies. But apparently Woodlands Depot which controls 962 is now having a lot, and I mean really alot, of spare Scanias to play around with, thanks to themselves being replaced by the older Nissan UDs on routes 178 and 187 (I’ll talk about them later).

There can be up to three full-day Scanias on the 962, none of which are doing the split shifts still controlled by TIB977P and TIB1165J although this needs checking. One Volgren 0405G (TIB1188T) has already been displaced by the Scanias and has since settled on the struggling 911. The other Bendies have been rotating among the drivers in an apparent bid by SMRT to somehow “equalise” their pay following the redeployment. An interesting feature though, is that the Scanias deployed on the 962 don’t seem to be permanant – there is bound to be a different Scania deployed everyday – although some of them like TIB657M (as shown in the picture above) and TIB639R keep appearing more often than the others.
