The Social Media Training class is not tool-centric, because the tools change so rapidly. I’ll

The Social Media Training class is not tool-centric, because the tools change so rapidly. I’ll make this blog tool-centric and, with your help, be agile enough to keep up.

Here and on connected services, starting with twitter & posterous, I want to report investigations of the Social Media space, without the industry details bothering my art friends and family who would not be that interested.

I’ve set up two new Gmail accounts and will be sorting my communications into two profiles: the artist, friend and family guy, p0psharlow [at] gmail and the social media student, stephenLharlow [at] gmail. Besides the two Gmail accounts, these two profiles, have their own iGoogle, Reader, Docs and Google profiles, shared items, etc. I’m in the midst of setting all up these, I’ll report the appropriate links when complete.

I’m currently struggling with the setup and the separation, since for the past five years I’ve only been using another Google profile, wolrah.evets [at] gmail (even tho I was fairly early into Gmail, steveharlow, steve.harlow, stephen.harlow, stephenharlow were all taken. I thought it clever to spell steve.harlow backwards: wolrah.evets, but it’s proven to only be annoying).

I use Mailplane on Mac for toggling between the multiple Gmail accounts. For the other necessary separation of Google logins, I’m, currently, managing with separate browsers: I have Firefox logged into stephenLharlow, Safari logged into wolrah.evets and Opera logged into p0psHarlow. When I’ve completed sorting all connections between my two new profiles, I’ll be able to drop wolrah.evets and have “only” two Google profiles. If you have an idea of how to easily toggle between the two Google profiles in one browser, let me know in comments, I’d like to know.

I regularly make use of Evernote from my iPod touch (effectively an iPhone without the inbuilt commu

I regularly make use of Evernote from my iPod touch (effectively an iPhone without the inbuilt communications) and I frequently look to add information from a web page in Safari to Evernote. As I’ve written about before, the standard Evernote bookmarklet can be added to the iPod/iPhone Safari app and this will then provide an option to set a title for the note as well as providing an option to add tags. I find this useful but invariably it is quite slow.

Another option has been to simply copy the page content, close Safari, open the mail app, select a new mail, set the recipient to be my Evernote e-mail address, then paste the information into it and press send. This tends to be a little quicker than the other option to get the information into Evernote (the bookmarklet can be quite slow to load), but when you factor in going back into Safari, then there’s really nothing in it.

Overall the process of simply just wanting to get a page into Evernote as quickly and painlessly as possible has been elusive – until now that is.

I took a look at the limitations of the Safari app on the iPod/iPhone and quickly concluded that a bookmarklet was currently the only viable option to create any sort of action. Looking at the efficiency of getting something into Evernote in as agnostic a way as possible seemed to lend itself to the use of the (account specific) Evernote e-mail address. So if I could find a way of creating a bookmarklet to trigger the e-mail of a web page this would allow me to stay in the browser and not have to complete any additional information.

I found several services that would allow me to create a bookmarklet that would send the page URL into Evernote, but it was the page content I was looking to add to Evernote. I finally managed to find the solution I was looking for with a service called toRead. toRead is an e-mail based bookmarking service. It is free to sign up and even though it is currently in beta I’d be very surprised if this free usage changed.

So here are five simple steps on how to set-up the option to quickly add a web page to Evernote from the Safari app…

Browse to toread.cc.

Enter the e-mail address for your Evernote account (this can be found in your account information) and click the start now button.

Open Evernote and find the e-mail from toRead which should now be a note in your default notebook.

Open the registration link it gives you in Safari on your iPod/iPhone.

The registration page provides two links on it specifically for iPod/iPhone users. Select and hold to get the option to add each of these to your Safari bookmarks (taking care to edit them and remove everything before the word “javascript” on each bookmark as per the instructions on the registration page).

The two bookmarks you now have can be used to send the content of any page you are browsing (including an option to comment on the content) Safari on your iPod/iPhone. The content isn’t perfectly reproduced and a bit of extraneous information is prefixed to the content by toRead to note when it was captured and what the URL was.

It would be great if Evernote could team up with toRead or even provide a similar service themselves that would allow the prefixed information to be populated into the “correct” parts of the note meta data (e.g. the URL of the page into the URL field, the page title into the note title). After all there’s always room for improvement.

The day is inching closer and closer. The day Google Chrome (the browser, not the operating system) may steal me away from my beloved Firefox. Last Wednesday, Chrome build 4.0.249.12 was released for Mac OS X. I am delighted. It is VERY speedy. Quickest browser out of Safari and Firefox to op en. I’ve already replaced the cozy Opera that was sitting on my dock with Chrome now. It’s stable enough to watch YouTube videos, get its flash on and everything.

Chrome for Mac OS X is still in developer builds, but this is one fast browser. This is exactly what I love about Chrome on Windows and why it is my default web browser on PCs.

If you’re on a Mac, consider Chrome! This post was written in the latest build. Everything just feels speedy.

BTW, what you see in the image is my customized version of Chrome. I love the wood-theme by Google. The ones by “Artists” are just horrendous I think. American Apparel theme? Who the hell wants that?

Download Google Chrome 4.0.249.12 here.

UPDATE: 4.0.249.27 is now the newest version.

So tonight I went to longroom, a cafe/club/bar on Ponsonby Road (Formerly Safari Lounge) due to the fact my friend was having an engagement party that moved on from dinner to drinks. Now, at the moment, I’m a bit crippled. Was in a car accident a few months back and now hobble around on a crutch due to a broken femur (I’d have two, but my left arm is broken too – yeah, life sucks, eh) so I’m sure you’d understand that I haven’t been to a club in a while!

It was raining – hard – and the club was packed. All I could think about was either slipping over in front of a massive crowd of people, or getting taken out by a tipsy club-goer who didn’t have the coherency to be careful around me! But I bit my lip and went in – and although there were a lot of idiotic tipsy people that were quite close to taking me out, thanks to the great staff at longroom I was fine.

I was so impressed with their help. The club was packed and I’m sure they had much better things to do than to take care of me, but they walked me in with an umbrella, walked me through the crowd and creating space around me so that no one walked into me or hit me with their handbags, and even cleared a table in the corner for me and my peeps. Once there, they kept coming and checking on me, seeing if I needed a drink as I couldn’t go the bar and carry one back for myself. And even when I left, they helped me out, unbrella whipped out again.

The club is gorgeous, the music great, the service phenomenal. But what I really want to rave about is how absolutely wonderful the staff are. I was so grateful to them for making my night safe and easy, and for taking the time to be decent human beings. Longroom obviously hires well, and I will certainly be going back! (Especially when I’m all better!)

Thanks longroom!

COMMAND + _______

CTRL + _______

I am a what techies call a POWER user. Becoming a power user won’t happen overnight. Give it a few nights. What is a power user? A power user knows how to utilize a program for more than its basic functions. Power users know shortcuts that improve and speed up productivity. It really is starting at times because it does become harder and harder to remember the keyboard shortcuts. Let’s start small for the first time okay?

Today we will look over some MUST know commands for any Internet browser. This guide will cover using the modifier key CTRL (Windows) and CMD/COMMAND/APPLE (Mac) in conjunction with another key. These keys are interchangeable. Because I have a Mac, I will write CMD, but it should work the same if you use Windows and use the CTRL key instead. Ready? Here we go.

CMD + N = Open new window

CMD + T = Open new tab

CMD + W = Close current tab / window

CMD + Q = Quit program

CMD + K = Jump to the search engine address bar (Firefox only, Chrome need not apply because the URL bar is the search bar as well, and Safari doesn’t work).

CMD + D = Bookmark

CMD + “+” = Zoom In

CMD + “-” = Zoom Out

The ones below are pretty common and function the same universally in most programs.

CMD + P = Print

CMD + V = Copy

CMD + C = Paste

CMD + S = Save As

When I’m surfing the web. I generally have a dozen or more tabs open. My right hand is on my trackpad and my left hand fingers are always close to if not on CMD + W and CMD + T. Closing tabs with the short cut is much more efficient than mousing up to find the little “x” to close.

More next time!

Kindle

Kindle

From Nyabitaba Hut that trail take westward for a half km then drops north (right) steeply to Kurt Shafer Bridge, crossing beneath the meeting of Bujuku and Mubuku Rivers. Uganda safari By going down the bridge you start the circuit moving clock wise.
Following the crossing of the Shafer Bridge, the muddy slippery trail climbs gradually up passed the bamboo forest. Following one and a half hours you meet an area of slippery boulder hopping which many hikers consider the most difficult and dangerous footing on the circuit. Over night at Nyamileju Hut. Nyamileju means “a place of beards” is referring to the lichen and Spanish moss draping trees near by. On a rare day, Mts. Stanley and Speke can be spotted from the top of the rock near the Hut. F/B.

following breakfast, you will head to John Matte Hut (11,200 ft3, 414 m) which is passed an exhausting bog full of these astonishing plants and the sluggish pace can be a wonderful opportunity to examine and photograph this exceptional environment. Well positioned, John Matte is recently constructed, Uganda safaris large and comfortable even if muddy near the site. Hikers who believe they have come to their limits by this spot should take John Matte a sensible stopping point. You can just get pleasure from the exclusive vegetation in the marsh and the wonderful views and the next day begin you way back to Nyabitaba. F/B.

You depart John Matte Hut to move from the Bujuku River and head to the lower of the two Bigo Bogs, where your first actual experience jumping from tussock to tussock in a grassy marsh begins. The trail is greatly muddy and follows the left (southern) edge of Lower Bigo Bog to the time you finally reach the round metal “uniport” of Bigo Hut and its rock shelter.
A steep part past the hut takes you to upper Bigo Bog. In the final half of this bog a board walk is present. Even if some may believe it an ugly intrusion, it makes walking quicker and keeps hikers from more damaging of the bog. An hour and a half beyond the upper bog and for climbing passed the drier ground and crisscrossing the River, you arrive Bukulu Lake. The southern finish of the lake is a grand setting, gorilla safaris with Mt. Bakerto the south, and views west to Mt Stanley and north to Mt. Speke. Beyond the north end of the lake is a rock shelter called Cooking Pot and a short distance further is Bukulu Hut( 13,000ft/3,962m),favorably situated for parties climbing Mt. Speke. F/B.

To head to the circuit, you depart directly west from Bukulu hut on a newer trail, which adulates twice prior to finally hiking steeply passed the magical moss- draped Groundsel Gully towards (14,345ft/4,372m) Scott Elliot pass. At the top of the gully is a short, tough ladder at a slightly steep section, which leads you a right hand branch would take you to Elena Hut (14, 700ft/4,430m). This is quite a steep, rocky trail which when wet or icy is dangerously slippery. Ongoing straight, and a few steps underneath the pass there is a sheltered spot for a break, from here there is a second trail to the right to Elena is the Base Camp for hiking. Margherita peak in the Mt. Stanley complex, which need require an another day or two and can only be tried out with ice axe, mountain boots, crampons, ropes and prior arrangements with RMS guides. Over night at Kitandara Lake Hut. F/B.

Begin hiking back to the park head quarters.
Following breakfast, you will perhaps start on very early if you a firm to make it all the way to the Park Headquarters and finish your trek (8 hours). The additional option will be to take a night at the Nyabitaba Hut. F/B.

Begin hiking back and finish your trek by the evening. On when you reach at the Park Office, go to a simple restaurant urbanized by a local ladies group for a beer and a luxurious candlelight meal. Over night at Hotel Margherita. F/B.

following breakfast, head to Queen Elizabeth National park to final part of your trip with resting at Mweya safari lodge. Take an afternoon boat trip and afterwards an evening game drive. Use up the whole evening resting by the swimming pool and dinner and over night at Mweya lodge. F/B.

participate in a morning game drive and afterwards head to Kampala and then catch your flight returning home basing on International departure times.

Whether you are appareling for a medieval bridal ceremony or finishing your Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) garb, medieval swords as well as daggers add certainly the right finishing touches to an outfit. Additionally there are thus lots of different styles of weapons that it’s at times hard to select.safari helmet Here is some data that will assist you discover just what you need.

Swords

Once it concerns swords, the alternatives are almost endless. Whether you are fitting out your SCA armor or discovering accessories for pirate costumes, it’s crucial to realize that some swords are built for appearance, as others are contrived for combat. In other words, you ought to acknowledge whether you crave a sword that is strictly ornamental, or one that will be effective in competitions as well as exhibitions.

Away from that, there are a number of different sword styles.
