Oh my, the A-Team movie just keeps getting better. News has surfaced today that original Lt. Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck, Dirk Benedict, is appearing in the new movie in a cameo role.

This follows hot on the heels of the confirmation from Dwight Schultz, the original Captain ‘Howling Mad’ Murdock, that he to will be appearing in a cameo role. District 9 stand-out Sharlto Copley is playing H.M. in the new movie.

Former Celebrity Big Brother star Benedict, who obviously is keen to return to the limelight, confirmed his appearance via his website DirkBenedictCentral.com. He will star alongside current Faceman Bradley Cooper of The Hangover fame.

No word yet on an appearance by Mr. T, but surely it’s only a matter of time. UFC fighter Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson has stepped into the not inconsiderable shoes of the Snickers munching one, as the new Sgt Bosco ‘B.A.’ Baracus.

The new movie also stars Liam Neeson as Col John ‘Hannibal’ Smith. Sadly original Hannibal, George Peppard, passed away in 1994 so he will not appear. Jessica Biel is on-hand as the love interest in Narc director Joe Carnahan’s remake of the 80’s TV classic.

It’s set for release 30th July 2010.

A few weeks ago news surfaced that original The A-Team cast member Dwight Schultz who played Murdock would have a cameo role in the big-screen remake. However, he is not the only one.

Fan site Dirk Benedict Central is reporting that Dirk Benedict, who played Templeton “Faceman” Peck in the original series, will also have a cameo appearance in the new film.

Dirk has just announced to this website that he has two projects in the works beginning with a cameo appearance in the new The A-Team film, which is currently shooting in Vancouver Canada.

The A-Team is directed by Joe Carnahan and stars Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Jessica Biel, Quinton Jackson, Patrick Wilson and Yul Vazquez and is out on 11 June 2010.

Although I personally love it when they do stuff like this, I am never sure if it is good or bad for the film in question – It kind of pulls you out of the moment as you go “Oh that was so-and-so from the original show” which is probably not very helpful to the new versions of the characters.

Wie der Name schon sagt ist The Losers eine lose Neuinterpretation der original DC-Losers, orientiert sich aber an ein erwachseneres Publikum und erscheint deshalb auch auf richtigerweise auf Vertigo Comics.

The Losers sind eine US-Special Forces Einheit die durch Zufall auf ein CIA Komplott stießen und vom selbigen deshalb auch kurzerhand umgebracht werden hätte sollen. The Losers wollen nun so viele Beweise gegen den CIA sammeln wie möglich ist und so ihre Streichung von der Death List erpressen…

NaJa, ehrlich gesagt weiß ich nicht ob dies so ein kluger Plot ist. Warum soll der CIA davon absehen eine Gruppe zu töten wenn die Gruppe noch gefährlicher für sie wird?

Aber kann auch sein, dass gar nichts so ist wie es scheint, denn schon bei den ersten 6 Heften der Serie dreht sich die Handlung in viele verschiedene Richtungen. Keiner scheint für die Seite zu spielen für die er vorgibt zu sein und auch ob es der CIA ist der die Losers tot sehen will, scheint am Ende gar nicht mehr so sicher…

Dem zu Grunde liegt eine großartige Drahtzieher Figur namens „Max“ die ähnlich wie Keyser Söze bei den Usual Suspects im Hintergrund die Fäden beisammen hält. Oder auch nicht… Wer weiß.

Der Rest der Losers ist, wie bei vielen anderen Outputs des Militär-Genres, sehr gut in Funktionen aufgeteilt. So gibt es den abgedrehten Hacker, den schweigsamen Scharfschützen der sein Ziel nie verfehlt, den Chef der sich die Pläne ausdenkt usw. Sehr Archetypisch, sehr standardisiert und keine der Figuren kann durch sein Agieren besonders überraschen. Dafür haben sie aber alle einen Coolness-Faktor Hoch 10.

Die Story selbst, überzeugt aber nicht nur durch seine Wendungen sondern auch durch eine Menge Action und vielen, vielen atemberaubenden Szenen, die nur nach einer Verfilmung zu schreien scheinen. (Ich persönlich hätte da aber lieber eine Serie gesehen)

Als etwas störend empfand ich die starke Verwendung von Militär-Ausdrücken und -Abkürzung die die Loser zwar glaubhafter machen, wegen denen ich aber auch den Trade zweimal lesen musste bis ich alles komplett verstand.

Jocks Artwork ist.. ok. Also das passt schon, doch ähnlich wie bei der Handlung brauchte es auch hier ein zweites Mal lesen bevor ich es zu mögen begann.

Wer das „A-Team“ oder das „Dreckige Dutzend“ mochte, wird sich auch von der Charakterisierung der Loser angesprochen fühlen. Auch wer Andy Diggle erst vor kurzem durch seinen Thunderbolts Run kennen und lieben lernte, sollte sich die Loser zulegen, da er auch hier eine ähnliche „nichts ist so wie es scheint“ Schiene fährt.

Losers ist sicherlich nicht für Jeden geschrieben und ähnlich wie bei manchen Platten, musste ich mir Losers öfter durchlesen bis ich sie „Ante Up“ zu schätzen lernte.

Thrill, Humor, etwas Heist und viel, viel Action. Wer das mag, mag auch die Loser!

“By the power of greyskull!” Ah, the famous refrain of one of my childhood heroes. He-man. What a guy. I recently re-watched some of the good old innocent fun that, as a child of the 80’s I readily absorbed, and was admittedly a little taken aback by the tight pants, over-muscley torso and lack of an interesting storyline, but I was only 8 at the time…

He-man is a good example of stories we tell each other about power – especially male power. Problems in the world are caused by baddies; problems in the world are solved by the goodies, with right combination of magic, muscle and morality. From He-man to the A-Team (don’t tell me BA Baracus didn’t use magic to make tanks in a cave out of an empty box and some sticky-backed plastic), from James Bond to Spiderman, to we reassure ourselves that magic, muscle and black-and-white morality are enough.

Last Sunday we celebrated the day called Christ the King. Just before we begin the year again at Advent (it’s not Christmas yet!), we remember that at all times and in all places, whether it seems like it or not, Christ is King. King is a kind of out-dated term, it doesn’t mean much to many of us. But in previous eras it has carried a similar meaning to He-man -  a bit of magic (with God on our side and a quick Mass before battle…), a lot of muscle (yours or your soldiers), and a healthy dose of morality (we are the good guys…) will win us the war/the Empire/some oil.

This connects with a film I watched yesterday – “W” – looking at the life of George W Bush up to 2004. Magic, muscle and morality are still the ways we humans go about demonstrating authority, commanding allegiance, and wielding  power.

So how does Christ the King compare with these understandings of authority, allegiance and power? Reading the account leading up to and including the trial, not well. His authority was stripped by the Jewish leaders at his mock trial; allegiance to him was fading as the disciples confidence was shattered. And his power? He spoke of a kingdom from another place, but it didn’t save him.

The human mind, maybe especially the male human mind, doesn’t sit comfortably with power withheld. Authority should be wielded, allegiance commanded, power demonstrated. That is what society sees as ‘masculine’ (technically it is called hegemonic masculinity. So now you know.).  This image  of the The Arkville Minotaur on Dave’s District Blog (winner of Best Christian Blog) goes a long way to demonstrating this in a direct and uncompromising way.

There is another way. Jesus was challenged in the desert, before his ministry began, to go ‘in with a bang’ and shake things up with a bit of magic, muscle and dubious morality. Demonstrate authority by turning stones into bread; throw himself off a cliff to force the angels to show their allegiance to him; bow down to the devil in return for unlimited power. Instead he withheld. And in Luke, the first thing that happens when he triumphantly returns to his home town to begin his ministry? He is rejected. Great. Nice one Jesus.

Jesus repeated this throughout his ministry, carefully choosing when to exercise authority, to command allegiance and to use his power. At his trial he could have saved himself; on the cross he was taunted about that very thing. “If you are who you say you, save yourself!” It takes a strong man to resist that challenge. Yet he did. Jesus  showed the flip-side to our usual human (and male-dominated?) understanding of authority, allegiance and power.

• His authority is not that of master and servant, ruler and slave, priest and lay, but as friend (I no longer call you servants but friends…).
  
• Allegiance to him comes not through fear, as Pilate’s did, but love (as the Father loves me, so I love you…).
  
• His power is not demonstrated from ‘up there’, but is given to us, ‘in here’, as the Holy Spirit lives in us (you will do even greater things than me…).

That is a challenge to us. Especially us men. Meanwhile, let’s be grateful that Christ is King, and not one of us.

Ich bin ein doofes wetterfühliges Dingens! Jedes Jahr das gleiche Drama. Spätestens im November plumse ich in ein Loch und es geht mir schlecht. Fast reglos verharre ich, lasse den Winter und die Depressionen über mich ergehen bis endlich im Frühling die Sonne wieder rauskommt, die Natur erwacht und es auch mir wie durch Zauberhand wieder besser geht.

In den ersten Jahren meiner Depressionen ist mir nicht mal aufgefallen, wie sehr das vom Wetter abhängig war und dass es immer der Herbst war, wo alles noch schlimmer als ohnehin schon wurde. Die Verschlechterung hat mir da jedesmal eine Heidenangst gemacht. Seit ich weiss, dass meine Stimmung mit Sonne und Licht schwankt – und das nicht zu knapp – schwankt’s zum Glück nicht mehr so schlimm. Das Bewusstmachen und bewusst Gegendenken musste ich zwar erst mühsam lernen, ist aber häufig wirklich hilfreich. Der Sturz ist kein so tiefer.

Vorhin, beim Nachgrübeln über diesen hässlichen Tag, ist mir wieder eingefallen, dass ich ja dieses Jahr in weiser Voraussicht tatsächlich vorgesorgt habe. Im April habe ich angefangen mir Glückskonserven anzulegen, kleine Dinge, kurze Momente festzuhalten, die mich glücklich machen / gemacht haben. Gerade habe ich darin gestöbert, gelesen, die Augen geschlossen, mich erinnert. Jetzt habe ich ein Grinsen im Gesicht. Und das an einem so durch und durch doofen und grauen Tag.

Um es mit John “Hannibal” Smith Worten zu sagen: Ich liebe es, wenn ein Plan funktioniert!

I’ll let you in on a little secret: our minivan isn’t sexy.  It’s not nimble, it doesn’t whisper on the highway, and it definitely isn’t fuel-efficient.  Our hand-me-down minivan is the furthest from a sexy ride that you can get.

When I traded my 80’s sports car, for the minivan, I was both excited and melancholy.  Gone were my days of cruising sans t-tops; blaring mixed-tapes into the stratosphere.  However, the stereotyped soccer mum was alluring.  Who doesn’t want to be that mum whom, while holding tea, opens the sliding door to let her children and dog bound onto a field?

The reality of minivan ownership isn’t far off soccer mum.  There are cup holders for my tea – eight total.  And the side door does indeed slide open to let my daughter and dog bound onto fields.

Fitting my ‘children’ into the minivan came with a lot of swearing though.  It was like a jigsaw puzzle, trying to figure out how to install, first, an infant Graco bucket-style carseat, then a Britax forward-facing carseat, and finally, one Graco and one Britax onto the two benches provided.   Somewhere along the line, we removed the middle bench for maximum ease of movement.

How do people with more carseats do it?  With two children and a dog, I find myself wishing for a bigger car.  But re-living the 8-seater A-Teamesque van my parents owned is not a dream of mine.

What had become a dream was finding a new radio, mostly for cosmetic reasons.  Ever since our toddler fed pennies to the tape deck last February, “I’m getting money, Mama,” our minivan looked like it was missing a tooth: the black hole where the radio once lived, another strike against our aged vehicle.

Yes, we were too cheap to replace it.  But we also didn’t really need it, or so I thought.  There had been numerous drives to my husband’s hometown, 7 to 12-hours away, depending on if you have or don’t have kids, when we didn’t listen to any music.  An old married couple, if you will.

We lived radio-less until Thanksgiving, when Grandpa remedied the circuit board, rid the radio of the putrid electrical smell and re-installed it.  He also fixed the passenger window, that wouldn’t shut properly.

Dang.  The sliver, and I do mean minute sliver, of hope that our ticking vehicle would be traded up for a purring 2010 model vanished.

This afternoon, cruising with my two girls, husband and dog, I watched my two-year-old groove to the music and my husband’s jaw twitch as I sang.  Ownership of our unsexy minivan was suddenly worth its weight in gold.

So this Wednesday I was asked to be a background extra on the set of the movie “A Team” and it was a rad experience.  I had seen them filming this past weekend and a couple weeks ago and the sets were both really elaborate, so when I got the call I thought sure. When I got there I realized that there were about 300 other people hired to be background for a scene set in a Seaport in Olso, Norway. As I was walking to the front of the extra holding tents to sign in, I was stopped by two ladies and one said to the other “How about him?” “He looks good”, the other one said “follow me”. I had no Idea what was going on and I just followed her and as the story goes I was brought to the wardrobe area and dressed as a Norwegian boarder guard and ended up standing right beside all four major actors for most of the day, they were all nice and said hey to me and introduced themselves. So when the movie comes out, look for me when Bradley Cooper, Liam Neeson, Mr. T, and Sharlto Copley hit theaters.

In the upcoming new, “A-Team” flick, we knew that one of the original A-Team cast will have a cameo. It turns out that Dwight Schultz who played the original Murdock from the TV series will be having a cameo in the movie.

Dwight Schultz is the one and only Howling Mad Murdock plus he was in Star Trek and other things. However, some great news about the A-Team movie has surfaced.

According to The Official Dwight Schultz Fansite, Mr Schultz has already started work on a cameo in the new film where Sharlto Copley (District 9) plays the character of Murdock.

We have received many questions if Dwight will have a cameo part in the A-team movie. We are pleased to inform you all that Dwight has actually already been working in Vancouver, where he has played a cameo role in The A-Team movie. Sharlto Copley, the South African actor who plays Murdock, is according to Dwight: ‘brilliant beyond words’. Dwight has seen his screen test and he stated: that honestly, if Sharlto is given an opportunity to do what I saw in that test, “Murdock” will be better than ever!’ Sharlto has been very kind to him on the set and Dwight must say that he has been treated very well.

I love it when a plan comes together.

A new poster has emerged for Tim Burton’s forthcoming fantasy feature Alice in Wonderland. The poster which is curiously sans its central character was released through Facebook on the Mad Hatter page. It was accompanied by the line  “help prepare his army!”.

More posters are certain to be released between now and the movies release in March.

There has been more excellent news from the set of the A-Team, which the word that original “Howling Mad” Murdock, Dwight Schultz, will make a cameo appearance. The Official Dwight Schultz Fansite have confirmed that the man himself has been in Vancouver on the set of the new movie filming a cameo and also commented that Sharlto Copely, who is reprising his most famous role, is ‘brilliant beyond words’.

Apparently Schultz has seen Copley’s screentest and has stated ‘that honestly, if Sharlto is given an opportunity to do what I saw in that test, Murdock will be better than ever!’

This is utterly fantastic stuff. A ringing endorsement from the original Murdock leaves me with no doubt that District 9 star Copley will be amazing. Now all we need is Mr. T and Dirk Benedict to turn up.

Die Hard 4.0 and Underworld director Len Wiseman has signed on to direct Nocturne for 20th Century Fox. The initial premise of this movie, which is still looking for writers, is a post-apocalyptic thriller movie and centres on a group of people mysteriously surviving armageddon.

So far I’m thinking The Road meets 2012 meets Jericho (not the detective drama, the other one). Wiseman is currently attached to the underwater military action film Atlantis Rising and the futuristic war movie Shrapnel but doesn’t have a greenlight on any of the projects. He is also working on an adaptation of the best-selling Xbox game Gears of War.

No word on whether it’ll have Wiseman’s wife Kate Beckinsale in leather (perhaps just for a minute, please?) or on any potential stars. More word as I hear it.

Matthew Weiner, the unfortunately monikered creator of hit TV series Mad Men is planning to make a romantic comedy called You Are Here, starring Jennifer Aniston and The Hangover stars Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis.

Weiner is very much in demand these days and has a deal with Lionsgate that will see him develop this project and two more feature films after. Shotting isn’t expected to start until 2011, as changes to the show’s schedule meant that production has to move back a full year.

So Mad Men creator plus 3 high-profile, very funny stars? I’m prepared to wait a little longer.

Turns out that Steven Soderbergh and Paul Greengrass aren’t the only directors to recognise Matt Damon’s brilliance and want them in all their movies. Legendary film star and now full-time director Clint Eastwood is set to team up again with Damon for supernatural drama Hereafter. The pair are currently working on upcoming South African rugby/Nelson Mandela pic Invictus.

Belgian actress Cecile de France has just signed up to star in the movie, based on a script by Frost/Nixon scribe Peter Morgan. The script tells three stories about people who “are touched by death in different ways”, with De France’s character a French journalist who has a near-death experience.

Shooting has been underway for over a month in London, Paris, Hawaii and San Francisco. Hereafter is due to be released in December 2010, just in time for more Oscar nominations for 79 year-old Eastwood.
