Oy, good morning indeed! While watching “Monty Python and The Holy Grail” last night, I was struggling to keep my eyes open. I’d be floating in a swamp of denial if I said I haven’t been feeling burnt out lately. I’ve taken a much needed two-day break from all exercise (except for walking miles a day, just part of city livin’), and I’ve really focused on resting due to the mild stomach bug I’ve been grappling with and general fatigue. Well, I think I cleared everything up and fully revived last night because after the “shrubbery” scene in Monty Python, I hit pause on the ole’ DVD player, brushed and flossed (thanks for the challenge, Holly) my teeth, washed the face, and proceeded to sleep for 9 hours. Ahhhhh. I feel so much better.

Anyway, to recap yesterday’s eats, I enjoyed simple pumpkin butter on Arnold’s Flax n’ Fiber toast with a banana for breakfast:

Followed by a reviving and necessary green monster and green apple for lunch:

Are You Green With Envy Yet?

For yesterday’s green monster I blended the following:

1 cup Silk Very Vanilla Soymilk

1 tbs. Dark Chocolate Dreams

1 Frozen banana

2 Giant handfuls of Spinach

Drizzle of Agave Nectar

It was super creamy and had just the right amount of sweetness.

While walking 2.6 miles to fetch Mina from school, I saw pretty things because the weather had cheered up:

X-Mas Lights on Trees, By The Way, That Brick Building is ABC Studios.

Then, while at work, I tried Siggs yogurt for the first time thanks to the reccommendation of a certain nutritionist! It was seriously good stuff, thick with a protein content comparable to greek yogurt. I loved the intense orange and ginger flavor. Topped with Ezekiel Golden Flax Cereal, it was le’awesome.

I also drank my usual, unphotographed cup of yerbe mate tea.

Dinner was a repeat of last nights, minus the chicken:

Black Beans, Whole Grain Brown Rice, Broccoli

Plus some ginger ale because my stomach still wasn’t 100% better:

Then I passed out for 9 hours.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

In honor of Michael Emerson’s Emmy win for Supporting actor in a Drama series I felt a post was in order. Each new season a show is touted as being groundbreaking, unfortunately all too often this isn’t true. More often than not a new show barely last the entire season and shows that refuse to follow the standard protocol last even less. As a viewing public we are comfortable with the same formula over and over again. It’s comfortable and reassuring. We can use it as an escape without having to think too much or put too much effort and commitment into what we watch.

That all changed when thanks to former head of ABC studios Lloyd Braun ordered the two hour pilot that JJ Abrahms and Damon Lindelof had cowrote about passengers on Oceanic Flight 815 surviving on a mysterious island. The premise was very simple and straight forward, however the design of the show clearly was not. When the previews for the pilot episode first began airing I remember being slightly intrigued but not overly enthusiastic about watching the new show. Here was a show that was quite upfront about the fact that most of the actors/actresses were not widely famous at the time or famous at all, the story in general took commitment to follow, and it required a great faith in the writers that there would be a point to everything, eventually. All in all not something I was ready to sink my teeth into.

The turning point for me came when on one of the previews featured an actor from a little movie trilogy you may have heard of called Lord of the rings. (Hopefully the rumors are true and he will be back however briefly) Now granted in the trilogy i was more a fan of Pip than I was Merry, but since I was a huge LOTR fan I just knew I had to check Lost out, even if it was only the pilot I was planning on viewing. Now at this point I would love to say that after watching the 2 hour pilot I was instantly hooked, but I would be lying. In fact I believe I went a couple of weeks or more without watching the show. No reason for it really, I just stopped. In fact it wasn’t until episode 10 entitled “Raised By Another” that i began watching the program every week and that was more for William Mapother than it was anything or anyone else (how it is that his cousin Tom Cruise is the more famous of the 2 for acting I will never know). But slowly over the rest of the 1st season I found myself paying more attention to what was going on or as is the case with Lost what wasn’t going on. I began to feel connected with these characters and problems. I wanted to know who “The Others” were and why were they considered dangerous. I wanted to know why Jack kept seeing his dead father on the island. I wanted to know why Sun was able to speak English and why she kept it from her husband. I wanted to know why Hurley thought his lotto numbers were cursed. I wanted to see them rescued and apparently 16 million viewers agreed.

But that doesn’t mean to say that Lost hasn’t had a mis-step or two, it has, but often these mis-steps are corrected in a way that doesn’t harm the integrity of the show itself. Does any one remember Nikki and Paolo? Sure you do and yes they were probably 2 of the most hated character’s on the show at the time from Season 3. And it wasn’t because they were newcomers, we had welcomed Ben into our family as well as Juliet. For me it was because well they seemed, pardon the pun, lost. As if they were being forced into a family that didn’t want them. Fortunately I wasn’t the only one that felt that way because not longer after they joined the show they were killed off in such a redeeming fashion that it made us the viewers sit up and take notice again. And instead of sweeping them under the rug the writers will pull those characters out again every once in a while as a wink to the audience. Almost as though to say that yes they hear us, but now they will not be giving us everything we think we want.

Why this show doesn’t bring home multiple awards every year is beyond me, but atleast we the fans have the satisfaction of knowing that often the best work isn’t recognized until the creators are no longer around to remind us every week why the show was so great to begin with. Unfortunately for us fans we have to wait until January 2010 before we will be able to view the final brushstrokes on an already beautiful painting.

Walt Disney

————————————

Final figures confirm AFTRA rules in pilots

66 of 70 to be union-affiliated, up from handful last season

By Nellie Andreeva

March 10, 2009, 11:00 PM ET

The digital revolution that swept TV production this pilot season also has swept AFTRA into place as the dominant actors union.

The looming possibility of a SAG strike and the lure of the less-expensive and more-flexible digital production has accelerated the transition from film to digital. The union affiliation for a pilot and the subsequent series is determined by the method of filming: film for SAG and digital for AFTRA. That is firmed up after directors are hired, and with all pilot helmers in place, the final union pilot tally is coming together.

Sixty-six of 70 pilots this season will be AFTRA-affiliated, up from a handful last pilot season. The tally doesn’t include the “NCIS” and “Gossip Girl” spinoffs as they are filmed as episodes of the regular series under the same conditions as the existing shows.

Four out of six studios went 100% AFTRA/digital this pilot season: 20th Century Fox TV (nine pilots), ABC Studios (15), Sony TV (nine) and Universal Media Studios (nine). The haul includes 20th TV’s “Masterwork” and “Maggie Hill,” ABC Studios’ “Flash Forward” and “Happy Town,” Sony TV’s “Community” and untitled Lauren Graham series and UMS’ “Day One” and “Parenthood.”

For CBS Paramount TV and Warner Bros. TV, the percentages are 92% and 79%, respectively.

Only one CBS Par pilot, the untitled U.S. Attorney project, is being done under SAG, with the other 12 (excluding the “NCIS” spinoff) AFTRA-affiliated, including “Washington Field” and “The Good Wife.”

Meanwhile, 11 of WBTV’s 14 pilots (excluding the “Gossip Girl” spinoff) are shot on digital under AFTRA, including “Human Target” and the two Jerry Bruckheimer pilots. The studio’s SAG-affiliated pilots are “V,” “Eastwick” and single-camera comedy “The Middle,” which was a summer pickup.

Also shot under AFTRA is the lone independently produced pilot this season: Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick’s CBS drama “A Marriage.”

Additionally, NBC/UMS’ upcoming single-camera series “Parks and Recreation” and Fox/20th’s single-camera comedy pilot “Boldly Going Nowhere,” which will be reshot later this year, also are produced under AFTRA.

Lost – Season 5, Episode 14: The Variable – 2009

Direção: Paul A. Edwards

Roteiro: Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz

Elenco: Jeremy Davies, Ken Leung, Jorge Garcia, Josh Holloway, Evangeline Lilly, Matthew Fox, Elizabeth Mitchell, Eric Lange, Doug Hutchison, François Chau, Henry Ian Cusick, Daniel Dae Kim, Nestor Carbonell, Alan Dale, Alice Evans

E no finalzinho do episódio quem aparece?? O cientista maluco Daniel Faraday!!
