Six Germiest Places (EWWW!)

Washing your hands regularly throughout the day is an absolute must. And, you may want to give your hands an extra scrub after coming in contact with these six locations:

1. Shopping cart. E. Coli was found on 80 percent of shopping carts sampled in a recent study!

2. A cutting board. There’s more harmful bacteria on this kitchen staple than on your toilet seat.

3. First floor elevator button. Everyone touches this throughout the day, which means the amount of germs drastically increases.

4. ATM Enter Key. Once again, more fingers + more germs.

5. Your desktop. Staying in your office all day means a higher amount of bacteria due to any food you eat, coughs and sneezes.

6. Playground. Almost every kid who comes back from playing on the jungle gym and monkey bars has major bacteria (even fecal) all over their hands. So march those kids right over to the sink the minute they come in and make sure they suds up really well.

5 ideas for a fuss-free holiday

1. Clear your family calender in December. Schedule your last home maintenance service and doctor appointment no later than October, so nothing gets in the way of fun.

2. If you plan to draw names for gift exchanges, do it as early as you can. It’s less stressful to shop over a period of weeks or months than trying to find the perfect gift in the last days before Christmas, when shelves are picked over and crowds are harried.

3. Address and stamp holiday cards Thanksgiving weekend. Get your wrapping paper out and accessible in November. If you have gifts to mail, set a shipping date for the first week in December to steer clear of the holiday rush.

4. Make a family photo calendar for the grandparents using software such as IPhoto, Calendar Creator, or Simply Calendars. Do this in October.

5. Go casual. Christmas dinner could be homemade pizzas. Everyone dons a holiday apron, and the kids dress up their own crusts from a kid friendly topping bar.

Watch undercover footage from inside Brookstone’s frog supplier, and then share on Facebook.

PETA has been working for months to persuade Brookstone, Inc., a gift-and-gadget chain, to stop selling African dwarf frogs imprisoned in 4-inch-by-4-inch “Frog-O-Spheres,” tiny tanks sold at hundreds of mall locations around the country. In November 2009, PETA conducted an undercover investigation of Wild Creations , the company that provides the frogs to Brookstone.

Undercover video footage obtained by PETA’s investigator reveals that untrained Wild Creations employees toss frogs around like coins, deny them food for days, and leave the animals to live and die in their own filth. Many frogs appeared to be suffering from fungal infections, and sick frogs were apparently shipped to Brookstone stores and other retailers. These delicate and sensitive animals are sold to unwitting customers, who have been gravely misled about the frogs’ care requirements, and thus the frogs are doomed to live short, miserable lives languishing in tiny plastic prisons.

Please watch the undercover video and send a quick e-mail to Brookstone executives letting them know that you will not shop at Brookstone until it stops forcing living, sentient animals to suffer in Frog-O-Spheres and ends the sale of live animals forever.

Real Estate Buyer Representation (ABR): Explained

You know those letters behind many Realtor’s® names on their business cards…? What are they and what do they mean to a real estate buyer or seller? Well I thought I’d help de-mystify that just a little today by blogging about the ABR® behind my name. ABR® stands for Accredited Buyer’s Representative®. What is it? It’s an accreditation I’ve earned through hours of training and continuing education on all topics pertinent to buyers. It associates me to a network of information and assistance when I need it. They are part of “My Team” known as REBAC (Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council).

Buyer’s haven’t always had full representation like sellers have. When you sell a home, you expect to sign a contract with your selected Realtor® to represent you and your interests in selling your home. Now buyers have that same right and representation when they work with an ABR® Realtor®. It’s called a Buyer Agency Agreement. Their Realtor® is committed to their cause of finding a home, preparing a contract (Purchase and Sale Agreement), negotiating that contract on their behalf, following a code of ethics, educating the buyer on the steps of the purchase process all the way through closing and follow-up, all with the team of the ABR® network behind the scenes to support the process.
