Since last year, i have been just short of planing my entire life. I’m just so fascinated with all my ideas. I wish i could have a sneak peek. One thing that i know i must do if buy an African Serval. I’v been inlove with this breed for so long now.

So i talked to my parents, and my mother has fallen inlove with the breed also, which makes me more excited to get to my point!

But i can buy a serval just yet, i already have a very nice loving and affectionate cat, Alexis Marie is her name and she is a pure breed Abyssinian. I would be lying if i said i wasn’t a super cat person. I just love their loving and caring nature, not to mention they are so cute. My kittys temper is so good, i may have been discourage from getting a serval if i had a mean kitty.

So closer to my point. I have been planing what i want to study, and where i would like to attend collage. I may just go to collage in the next town over to stay closer to home, im so close with all my family and i dont think i could stand being away, or missing birthdays. My sister is 4 hours away, and its so hard for me to visit her because i get car sick.

Damn im off track..

Anways, i have put a lot of careful thought into my serval. And trust me i will buy one. But when the time is write, and i can fully take on the responsibility of another mouth to feed and take care of, another with giving it all the love and attention it deserves. So i’v decided im going to buy a serval within the next 7.5 years, and i understand how are away that sounds but, im currently focussing on school and im not working. A serval will cost around $4,000 – $7,000. Not including the food it will need 2-3 times a day of raw meat. An outdoor enclosure and its own room. I want to be financially able to provide all these things….Writing this all down makes me feel so much better about my goals long term, i want to graduate high school and collage.

Right now im working really hard on my grades, My last report gave me four A-, three B+, and one C+. But at the end of last year my GPA was at 2.6 which i wont accept that. I know if i fallow the plan i have made for myself that i will achive everything that i have set my mind to !

(What a feisty character is the personality of the Abyssinian and those who love them. Don’t mess with this little fellow or you’ll soon know what we mean. Talk about sarcastic!

We all know those who have a tendency toward this trait; do we not? Indeed, most of us are aware of those whose feisty character sends them ‘up the wall’ at the slightest obstacle.

What would we say to the Abyssinian personality? I believe we would say; “slow down, let someone have a word or two; there is no need to get your knickers in a knot.” Yes, that would be a very good thing to say to all of you Abyssinian lovers. Don’t allow that hair pin trigger to start you off on a tangent that was not probably meant to affect you as it has. It probably was an innocent remark or gesture with little deep meaning attached. You know that you have a preponderance to be a little sensitive; yes you do. Knowing this, you must become aware of the need for you to re-evaluate your responses and prepare to ‘change’ them somewhat. Doing this will bring a greater clarity to you, my friend. After all; life was not meant to ‘attack’ you; as so often you feel.)

Dear Paws to Talk,

I like a good adventure. It think it is fun to jump from the top of the kitchen cabinets to the floor, climb trees in my yard and walk all over electrical appliances. I always land on my feet and still have all my hair. I am not afraid to do these things and try some new challenges.

However, my humans panic every time they see me in the middle of a feat. They scream my name and try to stop me.

Should listen to my humans or continue my tricks around the house?

-Jasper the Abyssinian Cat

Howl Jasper,

It seems like you are a very talented athlete. I wish I could see you in action. I was supposed to be an agility dog but I didn’t qualify for any competitions. Oh well.

Your humans worry about you getting hurt when you are in the middle of an adventure. That is why they try to stop you. They probably envision a large vet bill when they see you jumping off of the refrigerator. It seems like this vet requires a lot of treats in order to care for us.

Just because your humans worry doesn’t mean you have to. If you like being bold and adventurous don’t let fear get in your way. Be sure to give your humans extra cuddle time to ease their nerves.

Let me know if you ever go skydiving. I’d like to hear about that.

Woof,

DiDi

Have you ever seen a sculpture or painting of an ancient Egyptian cat? Then you know what an Abyssinian cat looks like:

History

The truth is that the origins of the Abyssinian are impossible to verify. The name ‘Abyssinian’ refers to Ethiopia (formerly Abyssinia), but most of the stories about the origins of Abyssinians refer to Egypt. Genetic research suggests that the breed originates from the coast of the Indian Ocean, where colonists may have purchased animals from wild animal traders.

However, the most popular version is that of the cat named “Zula”. The Abyssinian cat is said to be descended from Zula, brought to England by Captain Barrett Leonard when he returned from service in the Abyssinian wars in the 1860′s. Actually he brought two cats, but Zula was the sole survivor. There is no verifiable record of Abyssinian cats directly descended from Zula, but Abyssinians were certainly exhibited at Crystal Palace in 1871, so that this breed may claim to be one of the original pedigree cats. Certainly every Abyssinian in the world is descended from cats bred in the Unitied Kingdom.

Personality

Once you have acquired an Abyssinian as a companion, you will never be able to complain that no one understands you.

Abyssinians are extroverted, extremely active, playful, willful and intelligent. They adore toys and can play for hours with their favorite ball. Surprisingly, some of them play fetch. They are very people oriented and extremely good at training people to do just what they want them to do.

The Abies, just like their fans like to call them, need a great deal of interaction with the family to remain happy and can get depressed without daily activity and attention. They generally get along well with other cats, although they need their space and the females can sometimes be irritable around other cats. They love exploring and playing and make excellent hunters.

Breed standards

According to the Fédération Internationale Féline, the Abyssinian cats possess a wedge shaped head of medium proportions and soft and graceful contours. Their nose is of medium length. When viewed in profile the head shows a soft curve, with neither a stop nor a straight nose. Their muzzle is not sharply pointed nor square. A shallow indentation forming the muzzle is desirable, however a pinch is a fault. In addition, their chin is firm and well developed.

The Abyssinians’ ears are relatively large and pricked. They are broad at the base and slightly rounded at the tips. They bear a thumb print and desirably tufts of hair at the tips. They are set well apart and should follow the head wedge.

Their eyes are also set well apart. They are almond shaped and of large size. Their color should be either amber, green or yellow. The color should moreover be pure, clear and intense, brilliant and expressive.

The Abies’ body is of medium length, firm, lithe and graceful. Its musculature is well developed, however without coarseness. The neck is also graceful and the tail fairly long, broad at the base and tapering. The legs in proportion to the body are slender and elegant, ending up to oval paws.

The Abyssinians’ coat finally is soft, silky and fine in texture, however dense to the touch and with a lustrous sheen. It is medium in length but long enough to accommodate two or three dark bands of ticking.

When describing the Abyssinian cat’s coat color, we do not only refer to the body color but also to the ground color. The ground color is underside of the body, the color of the chest and innersides of the legs which should be in harmony with the upper parts of the body.

So the acceptable coat colors of an Aby are the following.

Ruddy
Body colour: warm ruddy brown/red brown with black ticking
Ground colour: deep apricot/orange

Blue
Body colour: warm blue-grey with dark steel blue-grey ticking
Ground colour: pale fawn/cream

Sorrel
Body colour: bright warm copper red with chocolate-brown ticking
Ground colour: deep apricot

Beige-fawn
Body colour: dull beige with deep warm cream ticking
Ground colour: pale cream

Black silver
Body colour: pure silver-white with black ticking
Ground colour: pure silver-white

Blue silver
Body colour: pure silver-white with dark steel blue-grey ticking
Ground colour: pure silver-white

Sorrel silver
Body colour: pure silver-white with red-brown ticking
Ground colour: pure silver-white

Beige fawn silver
Body colour: pure silver-white with deep warm cream ticking
Ground colour: pure silver-white
