Then in 2004 she began to design her own pieces. Whim Originals serves as a reflection of Mary Beth’s creativity and love for different colors and textures.

A: I started re-designing earrings as a teenager (30+ years ago) and started making jewelry as a hobby around 2004. I go so many compliments; i started making jewelry to give as gifts.

Q: What inspired you to start?

A: When I had an idea to take an old piece of jewelry and re-work it into something completely new and wearable.

Q: What is the inspiration behind some or most of your pieces?

A: I’m inspired by my changing tastes in colors and textures. I love designing unique jewelry that no else is wearing. I make things that I would love to wear too!

Q: What makes your pieces unique?

A: I rarely duplicate a design, so each piece is different. I hand make each piece using unique elements so that no one else is going to be wearing the same as you.

A: The hardest part has been marketing to knowing how to get the company name out to the public.

We LOVE  statement jewellery, and even small statement pieces can make a big impact. C’est en arrivant dans le rayon bijouterie que je l’aperçois de loin; à moitié cachée derrière une énorme panoplie de bijoux de toutes sortes, une dame souriante vêtue d’une robe jaune rayonnante m’accueille avec enthousiasme. En effet, j’ai rendez-vous avec Marie Laure Krauze pour prendre des photos de sa collection. Marie Laure présente la collection de la marque Une Part de Bonheur, lieu de création et de distribution de bijoux de qualité. N’ayant pas de boutique fixe, les bijoux sont continuellement en exposition chez Globus au cours de l’année; Marie habite sur Genève. Fabriquées avec créativité ou alors choisies soigneusement parmi d’autres collections, les pièces diverses de la marque ont de quoi plaire à tous les genres. Or, argent, perles colorées, pierres précieuses, tissus liberty et ponpons.. choisissez seulement; la collection déborde de bonnes choses. Puis avec une collection pareille, comment résister? Ce n’est pas tous les jours que l’on tombe sur une panoplie aussi généreuse de bijoux à prix abordables, et de si bonne qualité! De plus, il ne s’agit non pas seulement de bracelets, de colliers et de bagues ordinaires; parmi les merveilles, l’on trouve (pas tous les jours par contre, car ils partent vite!) des sautoirs dorés ou argentés délicatement tissés et ornés de superbes médaillons à la forme d’une tête de tigre ou du symbole de la sérénité.. des joncs épais ornés de pierres précieuses colorées.. des bagues uniques dont les pierres turquoises et bleues rappellent les tons de la mer en été… la liste est longue.
Mais ma rencontre avec la marque ne s’est pas faite par hasard; il se trouve qu’il s’agit d’une collection qui contient un tas de pièces qui savent assouvir les mécontentements féminins communs, du genre de “ça fait des semaines que j’en cherche un(e)..” / “j’ai l’impression que plus personne n’en vend..” / “J’hésite entre le bleu et le rouge.. et le violet.. puis l’orange, aussi..“. Il y a deux semaines, je n’avais pas encore fait la connaissance de Marie Laure Krauze- seulement à force de retourner voir son stand trois fois en une semaine, l’on apprend à se connaître sans vraiment se connaître. Après avoir trouvé une bague que je recherchais depuis des semaines, j’ai introduit la marque à une amie, qui elle aussi a directement craqué sur une pièce qu’elle espérait trouver; un bracelet épais, simple et sophistiqué, en or.
Comme quoi Une Part de Bonheur porte bien son nom! C’est vrai; les bijoux n’apportent que satisfaction et compliments d’autrui- promis. Bon, mis à part le fait que je sois totalement convaincue qu’UPDB soit une collection de merveilles à ne pas lâcher des yeux, mon admiration des pièces de la marque a également porté ses fruits pour d’autres raisons; aujourd’hui j’ai l’honneur de pouvoir vous présenter la collection de Marie Laure à travers une vingtaine de photos exclusives. Ci dessus, deux de mes pièces fétiches: les joncs en or d’Une Part de Bonheur. J’adore.

Pour les fanatiques des tendances colorées du moment; des mini-bracelets, dont la simplicité se marie bien à leurs couleurs vives et estivales. Pierres semi-précieuses et ponpons.. qui dit mieux? Les amateurs des charms (têtes de mort, croix..) seront ravis.

I love punk rock fashion, and I love the materials and creativity that designers chose to make these outfits stand out. My first crush was on the beautiful Nina Dobrev- everything about that dress and pant combo was phenominal. The leather bustier, corset lace top, her stand alone black diamonds and those beautiful locks all to the side- I die for this look. She nails it, knows how to be feminine, sexy and punk rocker chic. The look of this at its entirety made me do a double take, to realize that it was not a full dress, rather, all separate pieces. So Many words to say about this ensamble, but the best one that comes to mind when I see her: outstanding.

Speaking of punk rocker chic, Cara Delevingne and her jaw dropping, hardware spiked plunging neckline of a dress pretty much was the cherry on top for me! Again, combining these key elements into one dress, gold spikes, endless necklines, and a soft and sleek black train dress. She nails her accessories, a double stacked cross and animal tooth necklace, with a bangin ear cuff!! This outfit literally excites me, I need to find her stylist and tell them how amazing they are for pairing her with this amazing dress.

So was anyone at this event wearing anything but black? Of course, and I love that this notion goes out to Rooney Mara and her amazingly chic white and gold zipper detailed dress. Talk about attention to detail, the lace was exquisite, and the zipper detailing was the perfect touch to turn this soft and feminine dress into a punky twist. I also loved the high low ruffled hem line. The silhouette is what makes this drool worthy, takes it too an entirely new level.

Now this next look I was unsure about at first, and then the more I looked at it the more I liked it. Christina Ricci’s plaid high low dress made such a statement. She took your typical punk, and rocked it with this 80′s silhouette, but her hair was that of a 1920′s flapper. Brilliant! Mixing the ages, creating that beautiful punk rocker look. The harsh sweetheart neckline did this gown justice, putting it on my top looks chart because of it. I also love that she didn’t go for a bare leg, rather she opted for fishnet stockings and a strappy black heel. Well done, Christina!

And last but not least, my girl Blake Lively! Okay when is she not beautiful and effortless? This look speaks volumes in so many ways. I don’t know where to begin, her earrings, hair, the dress, the train? She looks so beautiful in this gown by Gucci, her warm skin against this cool, layered gem of a dress. It makes you look up and down and up and down all over again. The embellishments on her waistline make a perfect break for the layered silk to begin, mastering the look of drop dead fashion.

Now I am not one to hate on anyone for their fashion choices, but I have to give a “what were they thinking” to a couple of our A listers. I did give slack because this was about chaos, punk, rock, couture, edge and letting your weird out. However, there were a couple of looks that just did not do it for me! Lets start with Miley- what, why, and who did this to you! The dress did nothing for her shape, she looked like she was wearing a giant fishermans net….and her hair resembled a 5 year old boy who discovered hair gel for the first time. Her red lip stood out the most beyond that spikey do. I have seen her look so much better, so for this one, she gets a thumbs down. She’s just bein Miley I guess!

Next on the worst dressed is going to have to be Kim Kardash….I get where she was going with this, but head to toe floral, complete with turtle neck and gloves, only looks good on someone who is maybe, not pregnant. I thought the design was just too much for this beautiful mama to be. She looked like a giant piece of tapestry, or the ever so popular Mrs. Doubtfire. Could I see this dress on her post pregnancy? Of course! Toss it on Karlie Kloss and I guarantee she would make the best dressed list. The gloves were over kill, there was no separation of skin. Beyonce did a perfect job of showing how to don a glove that matches the dress. She had a strapless gown on with matching gloves, that actually looked rockin on her. You know why? Because she didn’t look like she was wearing a full floral suit and she showed some skin to show the separation of the dress and the gloves.

Now this next person only made the list because of her hair- Nicole Richie, which saddens me because she is my style icon! But girlfriend, that hair, has to go! It looks like she could be the lead character in Hunger Games, or Jay’s sister from Americas Top Model. Her dress was beautiful, but her maroon lip against the silver locks was a bit to much for me. I would have rather seen her hair a light pink than silver. It reminds me of Kelly Osborns hair and I never was too keen on her color choice. Like I said her dress was so beautiful that it almost took away from the hair- once you were able to look past it!

Lastly, Sophia Coppola makes my worst dressed because her pajama inspired suit just didn’t make me say anything but ‘blahhhhh’. She could do and has done so much better, this look was not fitting for the Met Gala. They said Chaos to Couture, not metallic meets bedtime. Her hair and makeup is beautiful but I can’t see past her pajamas. Now I know pajama inspired prints and silhouette are in, but this all together looked nothing short of a snooze…

Hands down this gala made me want to put on my black eyeliner, chunky black jewels and my leather jacket. So inspiring to see all of these stars come out in something edgy and eclectic, something they may not be used to. The hair, makeup and gowns were talked about for days and frankly, I still am talking about them! There is nothing I love more than watching celebs strut their stuff in these gorgeous designer gowns, exuding confidence and radiance as they go. If there is one thing I know for sure, it’s that no matter how hideous we may think their dress choices are, they wear them with complete and utter confidence. Rocking every twist and turn, and showing us how to go out of our comfort shells.

• The ladies at the country club pool who laid out on loungers all day, slathered in oil, smoking cigarettes. (I knew the cigarettes were bad because I read Ramona Quinby books, but like a good ciggie ad campaign, they just looked cool.) I was certain they walked around with clinking glasses at 5:00 in their modern Miami Vice inspired homes.
• Big, blonde hair on women with visible make-up.

• Animal print outfits.

One would not think I would pursue a career in fashion with these visions of beauty, but time and many fashion faux pas of my own have smoothed out the rough edges. I see the cigarettes and tanning oil as serious carcinogens and I strongly feel that you should only choose one feature to highlight with visible make up. I still passionately love animal print, however. Whether it is in or out for the season, I covet a pretty kitty or slithering snake print. It is a classic, not a trend. The key to animal print is to limit your audience’s exposure to it. Head to toe is a no-no, but a well placed and designed print is always a yes!

Dresses: Worn on their own, you can easily go into an evening affair with ease. Layer a jacket or vest over them to dress them down.  A denim or moto vest is an instant way to look right on trend for this season.

Bags: Even if you do not love wearing animal prints, how can you not love to carry one? In a casual canvas, this is an ideal beach or overnight tote. Much better than an everyone-has-one stripe, no?

Try a clutch with all black for a very quick and simple formal outfit.

Belts: A skinny belt is the best, and you can wear it with everything.  Add it to a simple shift dress for work appropriate drama, belt over a sweater come fall, or add interest to slouchy boyfriend jeans and your favorite tee.  Thin is elegant and timeless.

Scarves: I am a huge, giant, massive fan of scarves. Take your most basic outfit of jeans and a tee. It’s classic, but nothing special. In one quick step, you have a sassy little outfit just by adding a scarf. You get double sass points if it’s an animal print scarf! If you are scarf challenged, buy an infinity scarf. All you have to do is loop it around your neck.

Jewelry: This can be a challenge, but I like a challenge! Here is the key: if you are going for animal print jewelry, it MUST be bling-free. Go for tougher looking details, spikes, metal, chains; not rhinestones or you are venturing into Las Vegas territory.

Shoes: Animal print flats are about the cutest options ever. I have a pair of Manolo Blahniks and they make me giddy. I really like neon green paired with animal print this season, but if you are gutsy, mix them with a floral jacket. Here are a couple of similar options for inspiration.
