More and more of us in the UK are finding the need to use hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation

More and more of us in the UK are finding the need to use hotels and bed and breakfast accommodation all across the country.

Britain and Ireland have some of the most expensive hotel beds in the European Union and throughout the British Isles, Bed and Breakfast; often called B&Bs are a budget option where owners often take pride in the high service levels, local knowledge and personal touch that they are able to offer.

The arrangement of the Bed and Breakfast started before the 20th Century, when it was normal for travellers, usually in the country to spend the night at a private house but before the 19th Century this idea of the B&B was done on a social level, such as doctors would stay with other doctors and a nobleman would stay with a local gentleman.

There tend to be concentrations of B&Bs in the seaside towns where, historically, the working classes holidayed such as Newcastle in Ireland and Blackpool in England but they are also widespread in isolated rural areas such as the Highlands of Scotland and Connemara where there is not a year-round concentration of travellers sufficient to sustain a hotel.

In recent years some bed and breakfast businesses in the UK have struggled against budget hotel chains such as Premier Travel Inn and Travelodge. Traditionally, business travellers used B&Bs but many of these clients now tend to stay in budget hotel chains. However, in holiday areas the B&B or small hotel still prevails. Unlike the ‘chain’ accommodation providers these provide a more comprehensive service and breakfast is included in the price.

Staying in a hotel is more expensive than a B&B but offers a lot more to you in return; it is an establishment that provides paid lodging, usually on a short-term basis. Hotels often provide a number of additional guest services such as a restaurant, a swimming pool or childcare. Some hotels even have their own conference services and meeting rooms so that people can hold conventions and meetings wherever they are.

There are hotels and B&B’s out there for everyone. Outdoors lovers can choose to stay in a hotel or bed and breakfast, enjoying the scenery of the uplands, peaks, moors, lakes, coastal cliffs and marshy water lands.

City lovers have choices of stylishly modern hotels or they can opt for the more traditional ones. Cities such as Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle as well as the obvious London are all centres of modern British culture hotel bookings in these areas are on the increase.

To discover yourself why they call it Great Britain, stay at one of the comprehensive accommodation types from budget to luxury, including an impressive list of hotels, guest rooms and bed and breakfasts. Whether you’re looking for business hotel booking, weekend breaks or tourist hotspots, you’re sure to find the right accommodation from the extensive choice across the UK.

The seeding was based on the October 2009 FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, and Brazil, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Argentina and England are therefore the seven squads that join hosts South Africa as seeded teams for the Final Draw

The committee approved the composition of the other pots as well as the procedure for the final draw:

• Pot 2 will be composed of teams from Asia (Australia, Japan, Korea DPR, Korea Republic), North, Central America and the Caribbean (Honduras, Mexico, USA) and Oceania (New Zealand)

• Pot 3 will include teams from Africa (Algeria, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria) and South America (Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay)

• Pot 4 will have the remaining European teams (Denmark, France, Greece, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland)

• hosts South Africa will be automatically positioned as A1; the other seeded teams will be drawn into the other groups B-H, but will always be in position “1” of their group

• groups will be drawn from A to H and the positions in the group will be drawn for Pots 2 to 4

• geographical criteria will also be respected, meaning that no two teams from the same confederation will be drawn in the same group (except European teams, where a maximum of two will be in a group). For example, South Africa cannot play the African teams from Pot 3 and Argentina and Brazil cannot be drawn against the three remaining South American teams.

St. Croix Architecture here in Stillwater was just recently featured in the St. Croix Vally Press for their Christmas display. Lovers of Victorian architecture are in for a special treat this holiday season. St. Croix Architecture will be displaying a rare collection of hand-painted original plans and drawings dated from 18760 to 1900 from Friday, December 4th – Thursday, December 24th. The opening reception will be from 7:00 to 9:00pm on Friday, December 4th. The collection includes beautiful drawings of homes, courthouses, schools and churches throughout the United States, including several from Minnesota. Victorian architecture, popular during the reign of Queen Victoria, dates roughly from about 1840 to 1900. It is characterized by several different styles, including Gothic Revival, Victorian Italianate, Mansard Style Victorian Stick Architecture, Shingle Style, and Queen Anne, most of which feature arches, lacy trim and other ornamental elements.

The exhibit will be on several panels, grouped by region, in the center of the store. “There are beautiful examples of plans and pictures from the United States, Great Britain and Europe,”Goodman said recently to the St. Croix Valley Press. The exhibit will be organized by geographical location and will include sections on Minnesota, the Midwest, New England, Southern States, West Coast, New York and Europe. “It is fitting that this display of houses, government/commercial buildings and churches will take place in Stillwater, which has some of the finest architecture in Minnesota,” Goodman added.

Today I’m going to be discussing the fundamental disposition of conflict styles and why we should im

Today I’m going to be discussing the fundamental disposition of conflict styles and why we should implement a five-style approach. When pondering styles, we typically consider our own style preferences based on genetics, background, and a personal philosophy; our conflict orientation mold has been shaped. Our personal preferences are our primary styles.

The five styles include competition, avoidance, compromise, collaboration, and accommodation. The complexity of this system accurately defines concepts and tactics dissimilar from the two style approach of cooperation and competition. Defining collaboration would be delicate as it shares properties from both cooperation and competition; we clearly perceive why only two approaches develop insufficient definitions.

Here are some advantages and disadvantages to each style: avoidance can supply time to think of other responses to a conflict or if the relationship is unimportant to one person, this would be a good choice. However when using avoidance, other people tend to think that one doesn’t care enough to confront them; it may also allow conflict to simmer under the surface for too long.

Competition can be appropriate when decisive decisions need to be made or generate ideas when other’s respond well to rewards. This approach informs you of other’s commitment to the issue too.

This approach may harm the relationship because of the strain on external goals, not those between the two individuals. Competition creates two opposing sides: the winning party or the losing party, generating long-term tension for the relationship.

Compromise is an intermediate style resulting in some gains and some losses for each party. It is moderately assertive and cooperative. A compromising style is characterized by beliefs such as “You can be satisfied with part of the pie.” Compromise will sometimes let parties accomplish important goals in a shorter amount of time. This style is fantastic if the power balance between the two isn’t equal and is always an excellent backup style if others fail.

Abusing compromise is highly warned against as others may feel it as a form of losing, not winning. It limits new solutions because of its ease of use; compromise might be too efficient at times.

Accommodating does not assert individual needs and prefers a cooperative and harmonizing approach. When one finds that he or she is wrong, it can be best to accommodate the other to demonstrate reasonableness. If an issue is important to one person and not important to the other, the latter can give a little to gain a lot.

Accommodation can foster an undertone of competitiveness if people develop a pattern of showing each other how nice they can be. People can one-up others by showing how eminently reasonable they are. Accommodation of this type tends to reduce creative options. Further, if partners overuse accommodation, their commitment to the relationship is never tested, since one or the other always gives in.

Collaboration works well when one wants to find an integrative solution that will satisfy both parties. It generates new ideas, shows respect for the other party, and gains commitment to the solution from both parties. Because collaboration incorporates the feelings of the concerned parties, they both feel that the solutions are reality based.

As with any style, if collaboration is the only style used, one can become imprisoned in it. If investment in the relationship or issue is low, collaboration is not worth the time and energy consumed. Further, people who are more verbally skilled than others can use collaboration in very manipulative ways, which results in a continued power discrepancy between the parties.

Versatility and adaptability in conflict styles ultimately leads to either success or failure. Without adequate preparation and knowledge of a conflict style when most required could lead to potential disaster. A good communicator comprehends the intricacies of each style, implementing the more beneficial one; this type of communicator displays not only intelligence, but wisdom.

Understanding information and then applying the knowledge is the litmus test of communicators, differentiating success or failure. So get out there, build your personal inventory of knowledge of conflict styles and communicate your best way possible.

Special Thanks to: William J. Wilmot author of ‘Interpersonal Conflict’ for providing definitions.

Sanur is a tranquil beach town in Bali Island, and is located about 15 minutes drive from the bustli

Sanur is a tranquil beach town in Bali Island, and is located about 15 minutes drive from the bustling city of Kuta. A vacation to Bali is considered incomplete without taking a tour to this traditional village. Situated on the opposite side of the island’s southern peninsular, near Denpasar, Sanur has a long history dating back to 913 AD, the details of which are inscribed on an ancient stone pillar, namely, Prasasti Blanjong, which in turn is enshrined in a glass case at the rear of Blanjong on Jalan Danau Poso in the south side of the town.

It is at this place where the Dutch forces landed in the beginning of 1900s to begin their quest for Bali. Further, Sanur boasts of the first luxury beach resort in Bali which was built more than 30 years ago. Sanur is now a much preferred destination for comfortable long stays, since it is not as feverish as Kuta or Nusa Dua. It is also a place where ancient Balinese ethnicity and modern comforts exist in harmony.

The major draw of Sanur is undoubtedly its magnificent white soft sandy beaches, stretching south for about six kilometers with gleaming tidal crystal like water and ending in the mangrove marshlands opposite to the Serangan Island. Since it is bordered by a reef-sheltered lagoon, the Sanur beach is considered one of the safest in the island.

An array of activities can be enjoyed in the beaches such as canoeing, paragliding, and jet skiing. Additionally, the placid waters between the reef and the shore make it excellent for such activities as wind surfing, paddle boating, and swimming, particularly during high tide. Certain parts of the reef are filled with fish species, which make it a great spot for snorkeling. One can also enjoy fishing in the area, for which the assistance of local boatmen as well as cruises are available. In times of low tides, the beach appears to be wide due to its natural formations.

In contrast to Kuta beach, the beach in Sanur allows guest to enjoy a range of activities such as volleyball and sun bathing. The beach area also has a paved walkway, which is perfect for activities such as jogging, walking, and cycling. Above all, the beach allows visitors to savor the picturesque views of the surrounding including the magnificent vistas of the sunrise. Also, stunning is the scenic views of the sunset, during which the beach area is dotted with sail boats.

Sanur is an important religious center, the evidence for which is a plenty of temples found here. The village is also home to many colorful ceremonies as well as traditional festivals and dances conducted here. One of the most popular festivals conducted here is the Sanur Festival, during which the place is thronged by large number of people. Further, in order to experience the traditional aspect of Sanur, a variety of options are available in the form of dances such as Barong, Janger, and Kecak and traditional puppet shows with themes taken from such great epics as the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. Also, a unique cultural art form of Sanur is Tabuh Rah, which in turn is a part of a sacred ceremony.

A not to miss attraction in Sanur is its local art market, where you can see an array of traditional markets selling items such as handicraft specialties, clothing, paintings, ceramic items, and other unique accessories. Above all, the nightlife in Sanur is truly vibrant with a continuum of nightlife bars and clubs.

When comes to accommodation, tourists can choose from a variety of choices including traditional Balinese accommodation and western style luxurious accommodation. Many of the hotels are coupled with high-end facilities and amenities. Additionally, majority of the chic hotels come with excellent restaurants serving a range of cuisines from Asian and western cuisines to Balinese cuisines. Apart from restaurants within the hotels, you can also find a large number of restaurants and eateries along the beachside, from where a variety of sumptuous meals can be tasted. For unique dining experience, Sanur has some superb choices in the form of open air cafes and restaurants.

For those looking for privacy, some excellent accommodation choices are beachside villas and bungalows, each of the designed with luxurious facilities. These accommodation options are also great for those who are vacationing with large group. In addition, many of the service providers in the region provide packages crafted with accommodation, dining, sightseeing, transportation, and facilities to enjoy some of the top activities in the area.

The internet undoubtedly serves as one of the best sources to find the most suitable accommodation option that goes with your needs. Travel magazines, yellow pages, and reviews are the other sources to search for a suitable hotel or resort in the area.

Have you just a lot of horror movies lately? You may be wondering how you'd escape an attack fro

Have you just a lot of horror movies lately? You may be wondering how you'd escape an attack from Jason or Freddy. Perhaps there has been a wave of home invasions in your neighborhood and you are concerned about the safety of your family. Or maybe you live in an area that is a real hotspot for natural disasters such as tornadoes, earthquakes, and hurricanes. To drive regardless of whether you are looking for a place, the zombie apocalypse or hide from a twister, a safe mayjust the thing to help you in peace in your home.

A safe room (otherwise than Panic Room) is in a hidden area in your house, which is intended to act as a fortified retreat in an emergency. Think back to kings and queens in medieval times, had been hiding during the fighting, lest they lose their heads. They needed a mini fortress within the walls of the palace, which is essentially what is a Panic Room today.

Safe rooms and secret passages have strong leadershipSafety of people for hundreds of years, and today is no exception. Run with terrorists, stalkers and thieves amok, politicians, celebrities and wealthy citizens is a major threat to kidnap, kidnapping or burglary. They need a place to come while waiting for help to escape so many of them choose to install in a panic room in their houses too.

People need somewhere to important documents, jewelry, art, and to save computer files. Safe rooms act as a climatecontrolled vault to keep the people and their valuables safe in difficult times.

Safe rooms are equipped with high-tech surveillance cameras that enable the person to monitor the situation, each room in the house. You can also feature works baths, beds and other amenities that make it seem less like a hiding place and more like a cave. For those concerned about can be particularly persistent intruders, you get, bullet-proof doors, soundproof walls, and gas masks in case of chemicalWarfare.

Average people can also benefit from secret rooms, especially in regions where large storms are commonplace. Can have as opposed to the high-end panic rooms that the extremely rich, regular homeowners can opt for a much simpler version that is still done the work. The main features are enriched environment, with particular attention to the door, the room is the weakest point. A hidden entrance and the ability to communicate with the outside world, are alsocritical when you build your room.

It is also important to clean drinking water, non-perishable food, a portable toilet and good ventilation in the room. Because emergencies are unpredictable by nature, you must make sure that you are able, in your panic room comfortably for more than a few hours stay.

Is the cheapest way to secure space, you add that into your plans when building a new house. If this is not possible toan alternative is to simply convert an existing room in your home, like a large closet or bathroom, which act as a safety deposit box. Whether you're building a completely new or an existing room, keep your room a secret from as many people as possible and have your builders sign confidentiality agreements.

Have a generator on-hand, can provide electricity in the safe room, and a cell phone and a radio so you can call for help. Install a panic button in theOr rigging your safe room to dispatch police as soon as the door is opened, further options for the call in the cavalry. Please note that mobile phones can be very unreliable, as you may not be able to return a signal within the limits of the panic room for a call. Prepare yourself for this possibility ahead of time by a cell phone charger in the vicinity, and by an alternative means of communication.

If you saw the movie "Panic Room", you will also remember howimportant it is to stock the necessary drugs and within reach. The daughter in the film suffers from asthma, but not her inhaler with her in the room. Your mother must find a way to get the drug to her daughter's life without caught by the men who have broken in to save their country. Do not let this situation happen to you.

While home invasions not nearly as often in real life as in movies or on the evening news, they are still aPossibility. It is important to develop a plan for escape, or at least a place to hide until they have left. On the other hand, tornadoes and the like are frighteningly common in this country, and the best way to survive is for them to prepare ahead of time. Buying a safe place you can keep time and you and your family lives in an emergency. The hope is that you never use your safe space, but it's good to know that it's there, just in case.

•Halls of residence •House share •Room in a private house •Private flat •Private sector halls of res

•Halls of residence
•House share
•Room in a private house
•Private flat
•Private sector halls of residence
•Parent purchasers
Halls of Residence

These are buildings owned by the university for the purpose of housing students. Due to their limited availability “halls” are generally only available to first year students. Living in halls give students time to settle into their new environment and make friends before moving into privately rented accommodation in their second year.

As long as you are prepared to abide by the rules, halls of residence are an excellent option for first year students. They provide value for money accommodation and are generally located on campus or within easy reach of the university. Other benefits include having your linen washed once a week and the bathrooms cleaned regularly – a veritable home from home. Students will be asked to sign a Residence Agreement lasting approximately 40 weeks.

House/ Flat Share

This is the most common type of private rented accommodation for students and the main focus of this guide. Finding good quality accommodation to share is no easy task and as you will see as you read through this guide there are many hurdles to cross along the way.

Room in a Private House

It’s no longer just eccentric old ladies that take in lodgers these days; the “Rent a Room” scheme has made it a tax efficient way for all sorts of homeowners struggling with a mortgage to bring in some extra cash.

This may not be the type of accommodation that you had in mind when you imagined your wild student days ahead but if you have left it late it may be preferable to some of the more squalid shared houses. At least with this type of accommodation you are generally guaranteed a well maintained property at a reasonable rent and no additional bills.

Resident landlords have greater freedom to bring your tenancy to an end because it is acknowledged that, should the relationship between the landlord and tenant break down, the landlord is more vulnerable in his or her own home.

If you go for this type of a let make sure that you have exclusive use of at least one room and that your Landlord cannot enter it without giving you notice. This should ensure that you have a tenancy rather than a license giving you more rights.

Rights governing students that rent a room in someone’s home

Private Flat

Having spent several months living with housemates that would make Kim and Aggie raise the white flag you may begin to dream of your own place. The trouble is that it’s expensive and therefore out of reach for most students. Faced with a probable 100% increase in your accommodation costs it’s easier to see the positives in sharing a house; the camaraderie, the solidarity, the thrill of never knowing if your food is still in the fridge!

Private sector Halls of Residence

These are a fairly recent addition to the choices available to students. Developers were quick to see a way of cashing in on the rising number of students requiring inner city accommodation. These properties tend to be designed around the principles of a shared house with four or five single rooms grouped around a communal kitchen/ diner.

They are generally new build multi storey blocks and are fitted out to a similar standard of a three star hotel with en-suite bathrooms and large communal areas. They tend to be a bit more expensive than the universities’ halls and as they are independent you will be sharing with a diverse mixture of people. This could be the option for you if you still get excited about staying in a single room in a cheap hotel!

Parent Purchasers

This is a trend that started around the mid 1990s and has been gathering pace ever since. Rather than fork out for their student off-spring’s rent, parents take the opportunity to become buy-to-let Landlords. Their son or daughter invite three or four of their most trustworthy friends to become tenants and Mum and Dad can pay off the student loan with their capital growth. It sounds like a classic win-win situation but not always if you are the purchaser’s child.

In the same way that it’s difficult to separate the girl at the call centre from that nasty bank that bounced your last rent cheque your fellow tenants will see you as the Landlord’s representative on the ground. Imagine the dilemmas; one of your housemates can’t come on a night out with you because they’ve only just got enough money to pay their rent or your parents get a complaint about the noise and ask you to sort it out.

If your parents are proposing buying a property for you to live in urge them to give it to a local agent to manage and collect the rent. Most agents will manage properties for a monthly fee even if they have not supplied the tenants.
