Salt-N-Pepa (ft En Vogue) -Whatta Man

It seems 1994 was a great year for R’nB in the UK. Salt-N-Pepa shot to fame in the 1980’s with the likes of Push It, which still to this day fills dance floors all over. But songs such as this were also highly successful but seem to have been forgotten. So we would like to remind you not only how great Salt-N-Pepa were at producing great dance records but just how good Whatta Man was.Featuring En Vogue (an early template of what Destiny’s Child came to be) this song only reached number 7 in the UK charts, an outrage we say.

Meat Loaf-I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)

This Meat Loaf track lasted 11.58, nowadays for some this a running length of a whole album. Meat Loaf definately knew how to craft a well refined power ballad. A karaoke classic all over, everyone seems to know the words to this 1994 number one smash.

Oh girl, I know two posts about a single Lady Gaga song in less than 24 hours might define excessive, but I just can’t.  Stop.  LISTENING:

So color me predictable when I tell you I’ve been doing a lot of deep thinking about this whole “Alejandro”-sounds-like-Ace-of-Base situation because it’s an important situation (the most important!) that demands plenty of contemplation.  And because I’m in serious need of a more productive hobby, like knitting.  Or human organ trafficking .  Whatever.  Tomato, Clamato, moving right along.

Anyways, I’ve come to the realization that “Alejandro” doesn’t just remind me of “Don’t Turn Around.”  No no.  It’s also reminiscent of Ace of Base’s own anthem to stone-cold bitchfacedness:

See what I’m talking about?  It’s uncanny how reminiscent “Alejandro” is of “Don’t Turn Around.”  This is, of course, a very good thing, but I’m nevertheless starting to suspect that “Alejandro” is the Brundlefly-esque merging of Lady Gaga’s camp/pop sensibilities a cassette tape of Ace of Base’s The Sign:

And I stand by that assertion.  As well as my slammin’ Photoshopping skillz (skills so slammin’ they’re spelled with a z).

Even though it’s not coming out ’til the 23rd, that hasn’t stopped Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster from spilling forth onto the ever impatient interwebs, and let’s all just be honest with ourselves, y’all:

Sure, it’s only 8 songs long, and it’s like Gaga’s gone and reinvented the discostick, but The Fame Monster has some really great songs that definitely earn it a “BUY” come next Tuesday.  Songs, for example, like “Alejandro,” which is the Lady’s catchy dance anthem ode to tossing Latin lovers aside like they’re used tissues at a sperm bank:

I mean, sooo good, but I can’t help but feel like there’s a glitch in the homo matrix because I feel like I’ve heard this song.  Oh, wait, I have:

It’s not as though I think Lady Gaga’s ripped off Ace of Base, but that doesn’t stop me from flashing back to 1994, a time when I thought Jim Carrey movies were funny and flannel was appropriate to wear even if you weren’t a lesbian.  It’s very confusing, y’all.

Also, I applaud these two girls for their dancing moxie, but I do wonder why they act so gangsta while dancing to Ace of Base.  It’s Ace of Base, ladies.  You swish to that shit, not swagger.

I want to be part of every note, every single moment going on in the studio. I want nothing forgotten, I want nothing missed. I’m a perfectionist. The producer should decide what kind of music is being made, what it’s going to sound like–all of it, the why, when and how.

It still amazes me he wrote all these songs

- Primii care am vazut desene animate color, primii care am renuntat la casete audio si benzi mangnetice si le-am inlocuit cu CD-uri;

- Noi am  purtat jeansi elastici, pantaloni evazati, geci de blugi de la turci, iar cine avea firme gen „Lee” sau „Puma” era deja lider de gasca;

 - Noi nu am dat examene de Capacitate, nu am dat teste grile la admitere;

-  Noi am fost ultimii “Soimi ai Patriei” si ultimii “Pioneri”;

-  La gradinita am invatat poezii in romaneste, nu in engleza…Si am cantat „MULTI ANI TRAIASCA” nu „HAPPY BIRTHDAY” la aniversari;

-  Am sorbit din ochi „Sclava Isaura”, „Beverly Hills”,  „Melrose Place” , „Twin Peaks”, „Dallas” .. si cine zice ca nu s-a uitat  ori minte ori nu avea inca televizor;

-  Reclamele de pe posturile straine ne innebuneau, si abia  asteptam sa vina si la noi inghetata „Magnum”, sau pustile alea absolut superbe cu apa.Intre timp, ne consolam cu Tango cu vanilie si ciocolata si clasicele bidoane umplute cu apa de la robinet, care turnate in cap ne provocau pneumonii. Si uite un motiv bun sa nu mergem la scoala!  ;

 - Noi am ascultat si Metallica si Ace of Base si DJ Bobo si  Michael Jackson, si Backstreet Boys si Take That, si inca  nu auzisem de manele, singurele melodii de joc fiind horele la chefuri, la care nimeni nu stia pasii, dar toti dansam! ;

 -  Dar spre deosebire de copiii din ziua de azi, am auzit atat de Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Abba si de Queen, cat si de  noile nume gen 50 Cent si Britney Spears;

- Am citit  ”Licurici”, “Pif”, „Ciresarii” si am baut Cico, Brifcor si Zmeurata si ni s-a parut ceva extraordinar cand au aparut primele sucuri “de la TEC” fara sa ne fie teama ca “au prea multe E-uri”, iar la scoala beam  toata clasa dintr-o sticla de suc fara teama de virusi;

-  Noi am baut prima Coca-Cola la sticla si am descoperit  internetul;

-  Noi nu ne dadeam bip-uri, ne fluieram sa iesim afara, noi nu aveam dolby surround system, taceam toti ca sa  auzim actiunea filmului, nu aveam Nintendo sau Playstation  ci jocuri tetris de care ne plictiseam la o luna dupa ce le  cumparam si le uitam pe dulap, pline de praf;

-  Abia asteptam la chefuri sa jucam “Fantanita”, sau “Flori, fete sau baieti”, sau “Adevar sau Provocare”, sau orice ne dadea un pretext sa “pupam pe gura” pe cine “iubeam”…;

-  Noi suntem cei care inca au mai “cerut prietenia”, care inca roseam la cuvantul “sex”, care dadeam cu banul care sa intre in  farmacie sa cumpere prezervative, pe care apoi sa le umplem  cu apa sa le aruncam in capul colegilor, care am completat mii de oracole, sperand ca persoana iubita va citi acolo unde scrie “De cine iti place?” ca ne place  de el/ea;

-  Este uimitor ca inca mai suntem in viata, pentru ca  noi am mers cu bicicleta fara casca, genunchiere si  cotiere, nu am avut scaune speciale in masini, nu am aruncat la gunoi bomboanele care ne cadeau din greseala pe jos, nu am avut pastile cu capac special sa nu fie desfacute de  copii, nu ne-am spalat pe maini dupa ce ne-am jucat cu toti cainii si toate pisicile din cartier, nu am tinut cont de cate lipide si glucide mancam, parintii nostri nu au “child proof the house”, ne-au trimis sa cumparam bere si vin de la  alimentara, si cate un pachet de tigari de la tutungerie;

-  Noi am auzit cum s-a tras la Revolutie, noi am fost martorii a trei schimbari de bancnote si monede, noi am ras la bancuri cu Bula, noi am fost primii care au auzit-o pe Andreea Esca la Pro TV, noi suntem cei care mai tinem minte  emisiunea “Feriti-va de magarus!”;

-  Suntem o generatie de invingatori, de visatori, de “first-timers” …
 - Daca citesti si ai cazut macar un pic pe ganduri, esti de-al nostru !”

Anders Bagge ligger hemma sjuk och medverkar inte i kvällens avsnitt av Idol. Kanske inte så konstigt att han vill gömma sig bara strax efter att detta underbara klipp börjat florerat på nätet…

Säg… Är det inte lustigt likt Niklas Wikegård…? Jo. Men det är Anders Bagge. Och ja, även med vetskapen om detta är det svårt att se det.

Ulf Ekberg från Ace of Base ersätter. Enligt Laila Bagge för att han “är den enda som kan göra det”. Va? Den enda som kan göra vad? Sitta och babbla en massa strunt om ingenting alls…?

Då blir man ju smickrad, säger Ekberg.

Today we delve into the realm of popular music. Or, to be slightly more accurate, music that was briefly very popular, but is now an embarassment to the very idea of sound – yet somehow, still remains AWESOME.

Which brings me to today’s list – Thirteen Guilty Pleasure Songs You Hate to Love. (Or Love to Hate.)

Thirteen: The Sign. (Ace of Base.)

Ah, 1993. A simpler time. A time before balloon boys and black presidents and lady gagas ran amok, choking our nightly news with the same tenacity as a green Jolly Rancher in a child’s throat. And the non-grunge soundtrack to that bygone era would no doubt be peppered with plenty – puh-lenty – Ace of Base.

It what pretty much came down to a coin toss, I went with “The Sign” over “All That She Wants.” Both are maddeningly catchy  pop anthems from the early nineties, but I suppose it will truly be “The Sign” that this weird, and oddly sexy, Swedish band will be remembered for.

And nothing else.

Twelve: Stay (I Missed You). (Lisa Loeb.)

One year after Ace of Base broke into North American homes, depositing their sugary sweet sound into teenage ears like some weird Swedish Santa Claus, a local girl with trendy glasses also made a bit of an impact.

Let’s face it…if you were a dude in the early nineties old enough to understand the basic differences between men and women – you had a thing for Lisa Loeb. Her girl-next-door image, her sweet voice, her awesome pre-Tina Fey eye gear…this girl was all that. Just ask Ethan Hawke.

And while her big hit single “Stay” may not neccessarily be a guilty pleasure for the feminine set, I often get strange looks from people whilst blaring it from the speakers of my Toyota Tercel while driving.

Though it may just be because I’m wearing those wicked glasses.

Eleven: Toxic. (Britney Spears.)

Say what you will about Brit – and there’s a lot to say, I’m sure – this song kicks ASS. From the offbeat synth/violin riff to the onbeat sweet percussion, this is a song full of hooks that gets under your skin and into the meat of your brain no matter how embarassed you might feel listening to a damn Britney Spears track.

Oh, and the video, like most of Brit’s visual work, is also something of a guilty pleasure. At least, I always feel strangely guilty three or four minutes after watching it…

Ten: Lovefool. (The Cardigans.)

While the opening choppy guitar may be reminiscent of Television’s “Elevation” (not to be confused with U2’s “Elevation”, which is neither as good as the Television song, nor as catchy as “Lovefool”) this song nevertheless reamains a remarkably potent pop nugget. Made famous for it’s appearance in Baz Lurhman’s “Romeo & Juliet” MTV “opus,” it became a pretty big hit for this Swedish band, and the mere mention of it too this day still get’s her bizarrely accented voice stuck in my head.

Interesting that this is the second Swedish band to make the list – though not the last. Which brings me to….

Nine: Anything by ABBA. (ABBA.)

Even if you change your mind, they’ll still be first in line. North America took a chance on Sweden’s ABBA, and by gumption, they stepped up to the challenge – delivering pop tunes so sweet that they gave our ears cavities, sending us all rushing to our dentists. Or ear doctors. Well, whoever you would see about damaged ear enamel.

“Take a Chance on Me,” “Mamma Mia,” “Waterloo,” “Dancing Queen” – the hits didn’t stop. Even today they’re still making musicals and movies based on ABBA’s long gone career. Catchy as hell, these are songs that everyone seems to know the words too – but of course, would never be caught dead singing them out loud.

Eight: Fields of Gold. (Sting.)

What do you get when you combine a peaceful melody, lush production and a friggin’ lute?

Sting, of course.

Let’s go back a bit. To, say…1979. When Sting was considered “cool”. Here was a white Englishman fronting the world’s biggest and coolest reggae band…and, let’s face it, one of the biggest bands in the world. Then the band broke up, and the other two dudes from “The Police” kind of just disappeared. This was the coming – the hearkening, if you will – of Solo Sting.

Not content to just sing and play bass anymore, Sting decided to add a few new weapons to his arsenal. The guitar. The piano. And THE LUTE.

And then you get “Fields of Gold” a gentle, yet delicate song that transcends beauty in every pluck of the lute string. But, it’s by Sting, so I’m not allowed to like it.

Quick crib note for anyone paying attention: listening to “The Police” = COOL. Listening to Sting = NOT SO MUCH.

Sorry, Sting.

Seven: Invisible Touch. (Genesis.)

“She seems to have an invisible touch, YEAH!

She reaches in and grabs right hold of your heart!”

And, with those words, Phil Collins single-handedly destroyed the legacy that was Genesis, forcing Peter Gabriel to go all solo and weird.

But damn if it ain’t catchy.

Six: The Power of Love. (Huey Lewis and the News.)

Let’s get one thing out of the way. Huey Lewis is not cool. Huey Lewis will never be cool. Huey Lewis is the opposite of cool, and the News is just there to reiterate the fact. Having said that…

“The Power of Love” IS cool. Granted, it had the good fortune of appearing in a film (“Back to the Future”) that was and shall always be cool (despite featuring Huey Lewis in a cameo acting – wait for it – uncool) but that doesn’t detract from the fact that this song is an anomaly. It shouldn’t be cool – all power chords and inane lyrics- but it damn well is. Maybe it’s just because I associate it with skateboarding and time travel and Michael J. Fox…all cool, by the way. Whatever it is, it is what it is.

Cool.

Five: Kiss From a Rose. (Seal.)

Another soundtrack song makes the list, and, like “The Power of Love”, maybe I just have fond memories of it due to its association with BATMAN. Albeit, in one of the worst Batman outings ever. It’s grandiose and corny and peppered with stupid lines like “but did you know/when it snows/my eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen” which is barely even coherent. Whatever though – it was in a BATMAN movie, and Seal could and still can emote like no other. And, since I’m sure this song had at least something to do with his hooking up with Heidi Klum, I can only assume that it’ll work the same for me. Karaoke, here I come!

Four: Karaoke Songs. (Various, but mostly Journey and Bon Jovi.)

Karaoke, here I am!

This entry is less about the act of karaoke as it is about the songs people choose to karaoke with. Songs that you would never find yourself listening to at  home alone, or possibly even at a party, but dump a few cocktails down your throat and throw in a creepy dude with a microphone and songbook on hand, and suddenly you’re singing every damn lyric without even glancing at the screen.

“Living on a Prayer” and “Don’t Stop Believing” are usually the most well documented. For instance:

Yeah. Just like that.

Three: It’s All Coming Back To Me Now. (Celine Dion.)

This is what happens when you give Celine Dion a Meatloaf inspired song attached to a Meatloaf inspired theatrical video:

And it’s AWESOME.

Two: Do You Really Want To Hurt Me. (Culture Club.)

“The Wedding Singer” may have helped this one, but whatever. This song was ALWAYS awesome. It’s a weird song (to say the least) that should probably come off as horrendously creepy, but somehow Boy George manages to sell it legitimately. Nowadays however, with Boy George’s recent drug woes and wrongful imprisonment of male escorts (seriously), the song has achieved a darker tone, and has finally reached its destiny of being the weirdly creepy song we all knew it could be!

One: The Rose. (Bette Midler.)

I’ll let this one speak for itself:

Hey!! Como estan!!! que tal? Espero que se encuentren sumamente bien, yo la verdad por mi parte ando muy alegre… muy contenta porque mi actitud esta cambiando mucho desde el pasado fin de semana, me noto mas positiva! xDD tanto que hoy me hice un pequeño cambio de look! xD, si hoy fui a la Peluqueria y corte mi cabello un poco y quede muy contenta como quede… Mi Autoestima esta subiendo!!

Quisiera antes de empezar con mi post en si, mandarle un saludo a Jseros, Jois  y a Andrés por haber escrito mensajitos en mi ultimo post, realmente me llena de alegria los comentarios que todos ustedes me dejan porque les gusta lo que escribo y porque se preocupan mucho por mi y eso es muy gratificante

Bueno les comento que ayer me fue muy bien en la U, estuve con mis amigos recochando un ratico, lastimosamente no pude llevar a cabo el  plan malevolo que tenia en mente junto con @Sdark pero pues bueno supongo que luego sera ¬¬ … aunque como siempre de algo malo sale algo bueno, no pude hacer eso, pero pude salir a hablar con Goku…

Saben? realmente cuando me dijo que nos fueramos a comer y a hablar… me senti realmente extraña, como fuera de base como fuera de lugar y hasta les confiezo que me dio mucha pena, como ustedes saben… el y yo eramos los mejores amigos y debido a problemas de la vida nos alejamos muchisimo… y pues se puede decir que ahora estamos sanando heridas y volviendo a hablar, pero sí, como les digo  muy extraño.. como salir con alguien que a duras penas conocia, y eso me puso realmente triste, pero bueno fue algo que paso rapidamente y poco a poco esa confianza y ese sentimiento de calma y comodidad volvio al seguir hablando con el sobre las cosas que nos estaban pasando.

Llegamos a Wingz, que es un restaurante que nos gusta mucho y empezamos a hablar y a hablar y apesar que me sentia un poco extraña todavia, pasaba a ratos como un flashback por mi mente, recordando todos los momentos de recocha al lado de el y senti nostalgia, pero estaba contenta porque estabamos arreglando nuestros asuntos; A pesar que no pudimos terminar de hablar, la charla quedo quieta en un punto, pero quedamos que luego ibamos a terminar de hablar

Despues pasamos a Barcelona, donde saludamos a nuestro amigo “Chucho” – o Villa como lo conocen muchos, solo que yo le digo asi :p xDD- que estaba de cumpleaños e igualmente me encontre con varios amigos y nada despues que charle con ellos un rato, me fui para mi casita a descansar.

Haber bueno hoy, ademas tuve clase de señales, en las cuales me entregaron unas notas de unos trabajos y parciales y me fue muy bien gracias a Dios, a diferencia de un solo taller en el cual me descache suavemente :p xDD

Luego me encontre con Juanse Quiceno y me conto que hoy se iban a celebrar el triunfo de los Enredadores – El grupo que gano las fiestas de la UCPR – … y pues nada muy chevere por el y sus amigos, ojala la pasen  muy bien, y bueno ya cuando termine de esperar a mis amigos del salon ya me fui para mi casa y creo que mas tardecito iré al club del comercio a jugar bolos con Juanito, la mamà y Tan

Creo que eso es todo por hoy, me despido de todos con una inmensa sonrisa en mi rostro porque me encuentro sumamente feliz! y espero seguir asi todo el fin de semana , se cuidan!

Det blir snart svårt att upprätthålla en intressant tråd om löpning. Bla, bla, bla. Det blir lätt förbannat trist. Can I get a hooah…?

Återkommer inom kort. Men först. Bryter av med en kort omvärldsåskådning.

Värld och värld och väää… Vä…stberga… Vä…rdedepå… Vä…nförfrågan…? Kanske. Äh. Omgivningsåskådning.

Det smällde till i besöksstatistiken i onsdags. Anledningen ett två år gammalt inlägg som påpekade skillnaden mellan spanska ryttare och fotanglar. Det vore väl inte mer än rätt om jag också fick dra lite nytta av rånet? Sponsorer sökes. För två dagar sen.

Populära sökord sedan rånet. Spanska ryttare. Och. Fotanglar. Och de kanske mest intressanta. Tillverka fotanglar. Och. Köpa fotanglar.

Facebook. Vad är det frågan om? Fick en sån vänförfrågan från en helt okänd. Noterar senare att vi har några gemensamma “vänner”. Jag och främlingen. Kollar med ett par och ingen annan verkar veta vem hon är. Men de har bekräftat deras vänskap. Va? Jag är för gammal för sånt här. Jo. Nu vet jag. Facebook går ut på att samla på sig så många jävlar som möjligt som man sedan med löjligt hög frekvens oförklarligt vill uppmärksamma på att man har så förbannat tråkigt att ens enda syssla verkar vara att driva en virtuell bondgård. Och trots det ett par gånger om dagen göra ett quiz för att ta reda på hur lycklig man är…

Jag tror jag ska jobba omvänt. Radera några tveksamma. Varför? Jo. Med minnet av Ulf Ekbergs fest för ett par år sedan till vilken han bjöd sina närmaste vänner. Inte fler än 400. Närmaste? Jooooo. Hur lyckades han skala ner det till den nästan obefintliga samlingen? Ulf Ekberg i Ace of Base. Inte Livets-Ord-pastorn. Sektmedlemmar får väl inte ha vänner? Eller var det Ekman han hette?

Nä. Man vill inte sluta som Ulf Ekberg. Ingen av dem. Hörde om ett par som separerade och hon skulle flytta. Hon bad honom om hjälp med flytten. Han hänvisade till hennes 300 vänner på facebook… Väldigt roligt. Och sant. Och lite sorgligt.

Och AIK är kvar i serieledning i Allsvenskan. Jo då. Vi kan ju knappast hålla ordning på alla pojklag som spelar med för små mål.

Jo. Till sist. Äntligen. Världen. Eller? Vä…llingby? Kändisdjungeln. De påstår sig vara i djungeln. Varför ska vi tro det? För att de säger det. Ok. Om de nu är i djungeln, varför orkar inte produktionen på något sätt skildra det. Ett par kamerasvep är väl fan det minsta man kan begära? De ser ut att vara i djungeln men varje miljö som presenteras är så pass liten att Bygglovs-Willy ensam skulle kunnat slänga ihop det själv på en förmiddag. I kanske Vällingby. Och då fikar han ändå jävligt ofta på en förmiddag.

Jag gillar sån skit man inte behöver följa. Sån man kan gå förbi nångång i kvarten och ändå hänga med i. Sån som när det verkligen börjar hända något tydligen har brutits för reklam… Mikkey Dee verkar förvånansvärt ödmjuk.  Och Pippi Långstrump som man älskat så länge är så långt ifrån charmig att lösningen på Palmemordet måste anses nära.

Humor har en stark kraft. Nostalgi likaså. Förenade borde de då ha en orkanliknande kraft. Nåja, det är kanske att ta i, men AMF:s nu pågående kampanj är en favorit i all sin enkelhet. Deras budskap – att de haft högst avkastning på pensionspengarna allt sedan mitten på 90-talet (illustrerat av olika företeelser som skedde vid den tiden) – kan inte annat än locka fram ett leende.

Kanske är det ett billigt trick att ta till nostalgivapnet i kommunikation, men hej - det funkar ju. Jag som har ett kluvet förhållande till mitt tonårsdecennium tycker till exempel att det är stor humor att nämna ett av 90-talets största och ofta töntstämplade popfenomen Ace Of Base på en av affischerna. Så kanske gör det här att AMF blir top of mind hos mig när jag, förhoppningsvis inom kort, ska ta tag i det här otäcka pensionssparandet igen.

Jag har visserligen aldrig haft en Minicall – vare sig i byxlinningen eller någon annanstan – den blev aldrig den heta prylen på Gävles skolor. Men jag minns Ravellis straffräddning mot Rumänien, när Tutti Frutti härjade på tv och att folk som var äldre än jag gillade att dricka hot shots. Jag minns till och med att Micael Bindefeldt var frisör vid den här tiden. Men tack ändå AMF för påminnelserna – en 30-åring kan behöva en ordentlig resa nerför minnenas allé då och då för att stå stadigt på jorden.

This is the Record Club’s cover of “Suzanne” by Leonard Cohen (one of my all time favorite musicians by the way).  This Record Club project, lead by Beck,  focuses on Leonard Cohen’s music, all recorded as rough covers in one day. It’s pretty amazing.

This song is a collaboration between Beck, Devendra Banhart, the guys from MGMT, Andrew from Wolfmother, and a few other friends from their first Record Club project. Rumor has it their next project will cover Ace of Base!

Opening Balance: 11,534 miles

“We’re in Independence, MO – we need six oxen, two wagon axels, and why don’t we get two extra wheels…”  says Middle Brother as we get on the road.  Today we are en route to Amarillo, TX via Wichita, KS and Oklahoma City.  The ride is fairly fun, complete with sing-a-longs, from “Uptown Girl” (Billy Joel) and “Because You Loved Me” (Céline Dion) to “Semi-Charmed Life” (Third Eye Blind) and “I Saw the Sign” (Ace of Base).

Upon entering Wichita, we realized something, that this city doesn’t suck.  The buildings aren’t that bad and at the restaurant, our waitress was the first attractive girl since leaving Maryland.  Okay, maybe not the first one, but surely one of few.  And speaking about surprises in the “Sunflower State,” it’s actually quite attractive, relatively flat, but lush and green.  Don’t get me wrong, i would never want to live here, but it looks pretty.

Oklahoma is also interesting, but its capital is marred by oil drills and its landscapes are held back by the presence of wind turbines.  What happened to the time when we would harness wind energy with quaint, squat windmills, instead of these tall, anorexic pinwheels?  Seriously, they look like creepy giant cyclops or something.  They most definitely belong in the same children’s book as the trunk that eats kids.

After all of this we pull into our hotel in Armarillo and check-in.  We park the car, go up the stairs, approach our room, and…whoa! The curtains are drawn, but beneath them you can very clearly see that the light is on; and there is a “do not disturb” sign in the key slot.  What’s going on?  Are there squatters in our room?  We knock, no answer.  We try the key, it works.  Slowly, we open the door, and see disheveled sheets and a towel drying on the desk chair.  We retreat.  Then we demand a new room.

Tomorrow, we head to Flagstaff, AZ which only means we have to go through New Mexico, or more specifically, “A-L-B-U…QUERQUE!”  (bonus points to those of you who can guess the musical artist whose song I just quoted)

I can’t believe I was only eight years old when this came out.

Swedes are a funny bunch. Having worked and known many Swedes in the past year, they still befuddle me.

Here are some things that I have learned:

1. The difference between a Swede from Gothenberg, Stockholm and the countryside is in the way they dress and the confidence that they carry themselves with).
2. I have learned that being in the dark for half the year and the sun not setting for half the year makes them alternate between partying like crazy and hibernating. Kindof like a Euro bear that likes drinking and night clubs instead of catching Salmon, oh wait Swedes like doing that too.
3. Musically they really made their mark with the previously referred to Max Martin, Aqua, Ace of Base Euro Pop scene.
4. Swedes are culturally kindof a hybrid Euro/Yuppie/Hipster

What does this bring me to? Peter Bjorn and John, the Swedish duo that brought you the whistle song have been remixed into the new Mick Boogie mixtape. If you haven’t checked Mick Boogie out yet he has been churning out fantastic mixtapes featuring Biggie, Kanye etc… for the past couple years.
