It has been reported that COD: Modern Warfare 2 in one country sold over a million copies in one day. Now its being reported that total sales in US, UK and Canada on its first day come to a staggering 5 million copies sold! In a way I should not be surprised. The last game was so revered by lots of people, fans and critics. I can’t help but think that the 3rd installment has to be bigger and better than anyone could ever have dreamed to compare to the sales of this game. However, to those that think this will sway my choice for game of the year your sourly mistaken.

No hay ninguna duda de que la expectación que ha creado este juego no se puede comparar siquiera con la que generan sagas como PES o FIFA por ejemplo, seguramente sea porque estas sagas suelen sacar a la luz un juego cada año mientras que Call of Duty no sigue esta frecuencia tan estricta.

Tras la decisión que se tomo por parte de Infinity Ward de que la saga dejara a un lado la segunda Guerra Mundial que tan buenos resultados les había dado en cuanto a número de ventas, los chicos de Activision decidieron dar un rumbo a la saga con Modern Warfare, que, como su propio nombre indica, ya no estaría basado en la 2º Guerra Mundial sino en la actualidad, con armas actuales y equipamiento real. El resultado no pudo ser más espectacular, Modern Warfare recibió todos los premios y honores de todos los críticos especializados y por supuesto de los jugadores que coincidieron al señalarlo como el mejor juego de acción bélica de la historia. La única pega que se le puso por entonces fue la poca duración del modo principal, pero, al mismo tiempo, se solucionaba con un impresionante modo Online, con lo cual la acción y las horas de juego estaban aseguradas hasta el infinito. Sin duda fue un auténtico bombazo.

Pues bien, después de esta primera versión, hoy tengo el honor de deciros (por si no lo sabiais ya) que por fin tenemos en todas las tiendas, la nueva entrega de este impresionente juego: Modern Warfare 2, que se está vendiendo como churros para todas las consolas de nueva generación y PC.

Desde Activision se espera que este juego supere todas las cifras de ventas que se hayan logrado en toda la historia de los videojuegos, de momento parece que van por buen camino porque no hay nada más que ver cualquier tienda online de videojuegos para ver que es el número uno de los más vendidos.

Sin duda Modern Warfare 2 ha sabido muy bien vender su imagen antes del lanzamiento definitivo por medio de espectaculares trailers y noticias, así como el pack coleccionista tan llamativo; hasta ha salido en los telediarios por la gran calidad que tiene sus gráficos y el realismo de la acción (sangre y muertos por todos lados). En esta nueva entrega, incluso tendremos que hacer pasar por terroristas y matar a rehenes inocentes para poder desmantelar a una peligrosa red terrorista, digamos que será como hacernos pasar por un topo de las fuerzas especiales dentro de un grupo terrorista.

Ni que decir tiene que todos estos elementos de los que he hablado antes han provocado las habituales críticas por parte de algunos sectores antiviolencia en los videojuegos que sostienen la idea de que el juego es tan real que puede convertir a algunos jugadores  en auténticos terroristas. Yo personalmente no creo en estas afirmaciones tan duras pero bueno, allá cada cual.

Estaremos muy atentos a todo lo que se vaya hablando sobre el juego y las distintas reacciones que se produzcan pero ya os digo yo que este va a ser el juego más vendido de la historia, el más jugado, el más relista, el más espectacular,… Es una compra absolutamente obligada.

A partir de ayer, 10 de noviembre del 2009, está disponible el nuevo título de la saga Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 2, sexto de la saga CoD y sucesora de “Modern Warfare”, un juego que promete, y promete mucho, llegando al punto de predecir que será un exito de ventas en su primera jornada, superando al record establecido por Grand Theft Auto IV.

Se viene con cuática, tanto por su calidad y realismo, como su “extrema violencia”, llegando al punto de censurar escenas y misiones, como en el caso de Alemania donde se prohibió la misión de un atentado terrorista a un aeropuerto lleno de inocentes. MW2 ha sido calificado M+ (Mature 18+) solo para Adultos por la ESRB.

El juego, desarrollado por Infinity Ward y distribuido por Activision,es guerra pura, como dice el titulo, una guerra moderna, dotado de armas de alta tecnología, escenarios hiper realistas, una historia decente y una jugabilidad excepcional, siendo esta ultima el principal fuerte anunciado por los desarrolladores de Modern Warfare 2. La historia continua años despues de la conclusión de CoD: Modern Warfare, tomando el rol del sargento Gary Sanderson, tu misión, enfrentar a los terroristas rusos liderados por Vladimir Makarov, antiguo discipulo del principal antagonista de CoD:MW, Imran Zakheav.

It was inevitable for retailers to break the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 street date, but video game retail giant GameStop breaking street dates? Now that’s interesting. VP for Corporate Communications, Chris Olivera left the following statement with Kotaku on Sunday evening to confirm it:

This past weekend, GameStop made the decision to break street date and sell reserved copies of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in select markets where other retailers had broken street date. Our decision followed many conversations with Activision and was an effort to protect our customer base.

Activision told Kotaku they did not give GameStop permission to break the November 10th street date:

“Activision has not given any retailer permission to sell Modern Warfare 2 prior to the Nov. 10 street date. The company fully supports the Nov. 10 street date.”

What can you do right?

OK guys, girls and ghouls time again for a new review. I know it’s a little pointless now that the game been out for a month but better late then never right. So here what I thought of this new comic book game based on a great graphic novel from Marvel.

POSITIVES

Story - It tries to use the Civil War story for the game with some differences. At least it keeps you progressing to the end.New

Characters – I love the inclusion of Gambit, Deadpool, Venom and Green Goblin.

Premise of Fusion Attacks – Its cool to think and see what happens when Spider-man’s web attacks combined with Deadpools semi-automatic pistols would do to a group of enemies.

NEGATIVES

Combat – Still very dull for a brawler, mash a couple buttons and bad guys fall down.

Glitches – This game has a few but the worst is when you get one that causes you to have to start from last saved game.

Pacing - Seriously why does each level need to be almost an hour long to play through? Why does conversations seem like they were from Metal Gear Solid 4 writers? How come the civil war gets interesting half way into the game?

NIT-PICKING

Boss Fights – Most Bosses are Super Heros instead of villains so forget about fighting Magneto, Blackheart or Mephisto.

Voices – Some good, some ok the rest are soooooo terrible.

Roster Number – Only 24 characters? Marvel has hundreds of characters and we only get 24? Also why did they cut characters from the last game?

Costumes - Some character costumes reminded me of bad action figure reprints that no child ever wanted.  Some character costumes were terribly ridiculous i.e. Deadpool’s and Gambit’s.

CONCLUSION

MUA2 is still not the game it should or could be. It still plays like X-men Legends from last generation console. The roster is nice but very small. Levels are big and combined with dull gameplay it gets boring. The glitches while not major are annoying and that is not right for games this day and age. While the story is great it needs to be fleshed out more.  If I had to give a price for what its worth I say twenty five bucks.

Activisions line up for GamescoM . Only one game for me Modern warfare 2 !! And okay DJ Hero is also a really cool game if you like to Spin that Shit.

But I can’t get any…

Well, sorry I haven’t updated much in a while. I’ve been pretty busy discussing some stuff about the business side of Entertainment on this fourm (Great place, by the way. It’s based on Sean Malstrom’s blog.) So…I’m unsure what to discuss, so here’s another list of the subjects in my brain:

1) We all know that customers are the most important part of business, right? That it is also good to have good, fresh ideas from time to time, full of passion to create new movements within an industry, right?  That respect must be given to people who pay for the product, right? Because I see that Bobby Kotick is being a real douchebag, and that Starcraft 2 won’t be all it’s cracked up to be as a result. *Sigh* The Gaming Industry is headed for a crash it won’t soon forget.

2) What else, what else…oh yeah, Lady Gaga is a Hermaphrodite!

Her (Alleged) statement:

It’s not something that I’m ashamed of, just isn’t something that I go around telling everyone. Yes. I have both male and female genitalia, but I consider myself a female. It’s just a little bit of a penis and really doesn’t interfere much with my life. The reason I haven’t talked about it is that it’s not a big deal to me. Like come on. It’s not like we all go around talking about our vags. I think this is a great opportunity to make other multiple gendered people feel more comfortable with their bodies. I’m sexy, I’m hot. I have both a poon and a peener. Big f*cking deal.

Jesus christ, people, grow the fuck up! Hey, guess what? There are people that don’t exist in the “Boys are blue, Girls are pink” paradigm. There are other people out there who are either born with different bodies or decide to do something with them. Sure, I may not agree with them all of the time, but I know that their bodies are their own right, and that trying to repress what one wants to do their own bodies would yield results that would make this:

(On a personal note, I find her music mostly meh. I think it’s more watered down House/Trance with a crazy chick doing the voice. Some of her songs are catchy, though, and like I said she’s crazy. I’ll take that over most of the bland stuff playing on KISS FM)

Edit: Oh wait, this is the same website that reports a story like this without a credible source to back it up, so…I don’t know if I even want to cover this…I mean, shit, there’s more important things going on. Iran is in trouble, there are wars going on, the economy is shit, the Health care system of the United States (along with the rights of patients) is at stake, and yet out of all of that, some immature people are out there getting their undies bloody over a person’s biological trait.

I..ok. Ok.

3)…You know, the more I hang around some online art communities, the more I am convinced that there are people who will just exploit any oppurtunity to stir up drama over people who are popular or just bash them completely due to the pageviews/favorites/watches the artists recieve. Their arguments for hating the artists are very personal, amounting to, “YOU’RE A SELLOUT WHO IS ONLY POPULAR FOR DRAWING SEX/ANIME/SOME SUBJECT THAT I HATE FOR BEING POPULAR!!” or something to that effect. I know I touched on that on a sorta abstract level when discussing the Original vs. The Counter-Original argument, but as a developing artist/writer, it’s something that really grinds my gears, and I believe that silence isn’t a good answer in the face of that subject.

I want to go forward and give people a piece of my mind on the subject, but now, there is a problem. I am pretty sure that I will draw fire with this subject, especially when I, the blogger who praises Let the Right One In and Atlas Shrugged while dismissing Twilight and reactionary Film critcs, is the same blogger who will talk about two art communities, deviantART and FurAffinity, because he has made accounts (one mostly for art, the other mostly for writing) on each of those two websites.

…Yep. I just opened a can of bees. Character assasination, here I come.

But since I have spilled a bit of my guts in that third subject, I figure that it would be best for me to reveal the true purpose of this blog, along with my personal mission. I’ll do that in another blog post, perhaps after I tackle at least 2 of the subjects mentioned on this list.

Unlike previous Guitar Hero games, Guitar Hero 5 will allow you to import songs you have bought from the Xbox Live Marketplace or PlayStation Store for previous games. You will be able to import songs from Guitar Hero: World Tour and Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits. Of the 158 songs in World Tour 152 of them currently work.

However, unlike Rock Band if you want to import the songs you will need to pay for the service. There are no specific details on how much you will need to pay or if you will pay once or for one song.

Guitar Hero 5 will be released in North America on September 1st and a few weeks later in Europe and Austrailia for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and Wii.

There’s no denying the fact that Activision want every single last penny out of us gamers. They are constantly releasing new peripherals for their games, bringing out loads of different music games when they are basically the exact same and they even put Modern Warfare 2’s RRP at £54.99. Guess what they are saying now? Well Activision CEO Bobby Kotick wants to raise the RRP even further. He thinks that because Activision games have been a lot of pre-orders, especially Modern Warfare 2, that consumers are happy with the higher price and are willing to pay that and more.

The peripheral for the DS version of Band Hero has been revelead and is shown below.

Band Hero DS will be released in Autumn and will support four player multiplayer for guitar, bass, drums and vocals. However if you own the  DSi you won’t be able to play the Band Hero DS drums or any of it for that matter. It is designed for the DS Lite only, I don’t know if it will fit the original DS but I doubt it. Apparently the drum grip is very comfortable and fits your thumbs well.

Guitar Hero Arcade, like its console counterpart, plays and looks like the games we’ve known for the past four years. Colored markers scroll down towards the bottom of the screen, press the corresponding button and strum.

Compared to the home version’s guitars, the arcade’s controllers are behemoths for the obvious reason of durability—if you’ve ever had to use a busted arcade stick, you know why this is important. But the larger size of the controller makes it harder to use. The buttons are farther apart and are harder to pushdown while the strum bar is more rigid and lacks the whammy bar that has been around since the original Guitar Hero. These adaptations to the guitar can cause you to miss notes that you otherwise wouldn’t and make the arcade version less entertaining.

For a dollar, Guitar Freaks let’s you play three songs. Granted, these three songs are shorter than a feature song on Guitar hero. But the variety of three songs for a dollar instead of one song can’t be beat. Especially since Guitar Freaks will give you a free song if you do well enough on the songs you’ve paid for.

If you’re in need of a quick guitar-hero fix and you have a dollar or two you don’t mind parting with then give the arcade version of Guitar Hero a spin. But the home version is easier to use and more satisfying to play—besides, you’ve already paid for it.

Bobby Kotick disse à Times Online que a não ser que a Sony diminua o preço do Playstation 3, algo que ele fortemente pleiteou no ano passado, ele pensará em parar de oferecer suporte ao console. Estas foram palavras fortes vidas do líder da maior “third party publisher” do mundo.

“Eles [Sony] tem que cortar o preço, caso não façam isso a taxa de adesão ao console dimuirá”, Kotick disse ao jornal. “Se nós formos realistas, talvez tenhamos que cortar o suporte à Sony. Quando olhamos para 2010 e 2011 talvez reconsideremos se devemos continuar o suporte ao console – e ao PSP também”.

Prontamente a Sony America e Europa responderam à manifestação de Kotick, apesar de adotarem tons não ofensivos.

“O Playstation está com um momento excelente depois da E3, nós estamos vendo bastante crescimento e temos mais de 350 jogos programados para nossas plataformas, inclusive muitos deles são grandes títulos de nossas parceiras”, disse a Sony Computer Entertainment of America. “Nós temos saudáveis relações de negócios com elas e, além de respeitarmos todas em demasia, trabalhamos sempre próximas para oferecer a melhor experiência em entretenimento”.

O braço europeu da empresa disse apenas: “Nós respeitamos as opiniões de nossas “third parties” e também o seu direito de expressá-las, mas não comentaremos o fato”.

Certamente acontecerão telefonemas entre as empresas hoje.

No entanto, é engraçado ouvir tais declarações vindas de uma empresa responsável por jogos que custam quase tanto quanto um console. Nos EUA, no site da amazon.com, o bundle do último lançamento Guitar Hero custa aproximadamente 200 dólares, métade do preço de um Playstation 3 com HDD de 80gb na mesma loja. A Activision reclamar de custos quando lança os jogos mais caros do mercado, é, no mínimo, estranho. O mesmo Guitar Hero custa aqui no Brasil, se adquirido por meios legais, cerca de 1,800 reais (no site submarino.com.br) enquanto o mesmo modelo de Playstation 3 citado acima custa aproximadamente 2000 reais.

Enquanto o Playstation 3 precisa, sim, de um reajuste em seu valor, esse bate boca me parece muito mais como o sujo falando do mal lavado.

DJ Hero

Activision the makers of Guitar Hero have created a new game called DJ Hero for Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. The game will be similar to the rhythm base game that Guitar Hero is, but will use a turntable as instrument. The turntable is pretty realistic as you will be able to scratch records, rewind tracks, and cross fade between songs. There will be over 100 tracks and Jayz and Eminem have signed on to do collaboration for the game. The game will feature a variety of music like hip-hop, electronica, R&B, Motown, pop, and rock. DJ Hero will include songs from the Black Eyed Peas, 50 Cent, Justice, Marvin Gaye, Nirvana, Beastie Boys, N.E.R.D, and whole lot more.

There was a split second at the start of Microsoft’s keynote yesterday when I questioned not only the keynote but what the hell was so special about The Beatles: Rock Band?

All We Needed Was Love

But just five minutes later, even before Ringo and Paul trotted out (noticeably from the opposite side of the stage to Yoko Ono) I was sold. And it wasn’t just myself, there seemed to be a general consensus amongst press and the guys at Infinity Ward who I happened to sit with.

In an effortless, nostalgic trailer, Harmonix conveyed exactly why their music games are so loved, and how much they themselves love The Beatles. It’s that love of music that really shines through with Harmonix titles and in my mind at least sets them apart from Activision and Neversoft’s more blatantly commercially motivated licensed efforts, with GH: Metallica being a striking exception rather than the rule.

It was this jaded view of licensed games that had tempered my interests in The Beatles: Rock Band, until it’s unveiling at the Microsoft keynote had turned it into a tangible and exciting prospect for me, as opposed to the curiosity of just minutes earlier. And just in case anyone had any doubts, there was Harmonix, live on stage clearly, having a ball playing the game, making sweet harmonies and generally hamming it up for the cameras.

With musical endorphins putting a whimsical smile on my face, the final pitch came with a sneak peak of ten of the 45 songs just to remind me how good the Beatles were and still very much are. In fact they’ve never sounded better, given all the tracks have been remastered for the game and the rerelease of the Beatles entire catalogue.

What tracks exactly?

How about I Saw Her Standing There, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, I Feel Fine, Day Tripper, Tax Man, I am the Walrus, Back in the USSR, Octopus’s Garden, Here Comes the Sun, Get Back, and an Xbox 360 exclusive eleventh track “All You Need Is Love”, with all proceeds from the exclusive DLC going to Doctors Without Borders.

And just for good measure expect full remastered album releases, with Abbey Road available in its entirety soon after the games launch. My fingers are crossed that given the enduring appeal of The Beatles, we can expect a day and date release in Australia in line with the US and Europe.

The end result?

Five minutes into the Microsoft keynote, I was ready to play The Beatles: Rock Band and not in a “I might buy it” kind of way, but with a “I’m getting this on launch!” certainty.

The dial was turned to 11 when Microsoft telegraphed the presence of The Beatles, before they appeared both in spirit (widows Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison) and person (Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr).

It was one hell of a way to start a kick arse keynote, and one hell of a way to sell a game.

Activision a anunţat că noul shooter Wolfenstein se va lansa pe 7 august în Europa în versiunile pentru PC, PS3 si Xbox 360.

Jocul va fi disponibil cu trei zile mai devreme în magazinele din Statele Unite ale Americii.

Noul joc Wolfenstein ne va readuce aminte de obsesia naziştilor pentru ocult.

Povestea din jocul produs de către RavenSoftware, va conţine elemente SF şi îi va oferi jucătorului un gameplay dinamic, promit producătorii.

Jucătorii vor prelua din nou rolul lui BJ Blazkowicz, membru al Office of Secret Actions, care trebuie să adune dovezi despre noua putere pe care ofiţerii SS se pregătesc să o folosească pentru a cuceri întreaga lume.

Não chega a ser uma surpresa isso já que a Activison sempre adorou os games do Homem Aranha e já havia demonstrado interesse em games que pudessem ganhar continuações infinitamentes [Por isso ela descartou Ghostbusters ano passado, lembra?].

O segundo game dos Transformers já está em produção pelo estúdio Luxoflux e deve sair junto com o filme este ano. Especula-se que os games de 2010 irão chamar um pouco mais a atenção porque não serão baseados em filmes e terão enredos próprios.

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows de 2008 já foi assim e teve avaliações positivas tanto pela crítica especializado, como pelos gamers. Eu mesmo achei que Web of Shadows excelente. O primeiro Transformers também não chegou a ser um game ruim, pelo contrário, havia muitos elementos bons no game, porém mal aproveitados, mas para um primeiro game não foi nada mal. Resta esperar a continuação de Transformers este ano e o terceiro de 2010, na qual, torço para ter roteiro e gameplay originais.

Já se sabe que a High Moon Studios cuidará do game dos Transformers 2010 e a Radical Studios cuidará do Spider-Man 2010.

Mesmo parecendo que o senior designer Dan Teasdale tinha intenções de falar sobre LEGO Rock Band durante sua apresentação na GDC, isso não chegou a acontecer.

No entanto, um PDF de Teasdale deu forças ao rumor de que o game está sendo desenvolvido atualmente pela experiente softhouse Traveller’s Tales, responsável pelos games LEGO das franquias Star Wars, Indiana Jones e Batman.

Eis um slide que seria mostrado na GDC e que faz parecer que o game deverá ser lançado entre as datas de Rock Band Unplugged e The Beatles: Rock Band. Isso quer dizer que ainda veremos os bonecos de LEGO formarem uma banda ainda em 2009.

Como você pode ver, o designer também lista alguns títulos da franquia Guitar Hero que estariam em desenvolvimento, incluindo o não anunciado Guitar Hero: Van Halen, que aí é chamado de Guitar Hero: Band Hero.

O que ficou claro depois disso tudo é que existem muitos games da franquia Guitar Hero sendo planejados para 2009. LEGO Rock Band não foi anunciado oficialmente, por enquanto encare isso como um rumor.
