My dad, Sparky, is brilliant. He’s a great dad, but he also says amazing things. I spent the night round at the parent’s house last night and mum (also brilliant) reminded me of this gem:

Whilst out shopping for curtains Sparks loudly remarks “Who ever designed these curtains had no taste.” to which the female shop owner replies “Careful, my husband made those.” Not to be deterred Sparky offers up his devastatingly hilarious quip “Looking at you confirms that he’s tasteless!”

Utter gold, made all the more golden by the fact that he thinks that is perfectly acceptable social behaviour. One of mum’s favourite refrains is “Jokes have to be funny dear.” Which is advice we would all do well to heed. Sometimes I get far too caught up in the idea of a joke and forget to check whether the punchline is actually, you know, punchy. For example I was in the pub with an eclectic group of mates a while ago and the ‘laddy’ element were talking sport; rugby, football, NFL etc.. Meanwhile, two of my more, shall we say ‘alternative’ friends declared all sport a waste of time and were having a Top Trumps style conversation about ‘who would win in a fight’.

The match ups ranged from ‘polar bear V shark’ to ‘penguin V walrus’. They weren’t exclusively cold-climate creatures either we had the classic ‘lion V tiger’, ‘4 squirrels V cat’ there were many many battle fought that day. It was when countries got involved that my interest was piqued. Scotland would obviously beat England A) Because I count myself a Scot, and B) Because Scotland holds the majority of Britain’s nuclear arsenal and indeed troops. The point of this story (I haven’t heeded my own advice here have I?) was that eventually the neighbourly squabble of Irelend V England reared it’s head. My mate’s were all in agreement that the emerald isle would crush their historical oppressors, until Pete chimed in with “Yeah, but take Northern Ireland away and they’d lose.” What I said next remains to this day my proudest joke despite not being that funny “No Pete, taking Northern Ireland away was what started this mess in the first place!”

I sat there beaming after that, but no-one laughed. I’d got so caught up with my Have I Got News for You-esque wit that I hadn’t realised it’s not funny. Maybe this is how Sparks felt in that drapery. Work news now: nothing to report. Bloody nothing, not a whiff of an audition. The Naturals are still being my guardian angels though, long may they continue. I did apply for a job that specified “Attractive people only, when we say attractive we mean just that. We are not looking to see people who look like the cast of Shameless.” maybe it was hubris that made me apply, afterall James McAvoy is hardly a minger.

Michael Weatherly was born in 1968 in New York. He was born into a wealthy family but always had a passion for the arts. He dropped out of college to pursue a career in acting, at which point his father cut him off from his inheritance.

He was also into music and even played in a band while he was working on his acting career. He got his debut role in 1991 in an episode of the Cosby Show, playing Theo’s Roomate.

After that he played Cooper Alden in both Loving and The City. This was followed by a role in the TV Movie Pier 66. He got a few roles in 1997, including his film debut in Meet Wally Sparks, which led to a lead role in the series Significant Others in 1998 but the show only lasted six episodes.

He got his first big break in 2000 when he was cast as Logan Cale in the widely popular sci – fi series Dark Angel opposite Jessica Alba. This lead to him being engaged to Jessica in 2001 but they couple broke up in 2003.

In 2003 he was cast as Anthony DiNozzo (Tony) in NCIS. The show became a hit as well. Michael continues with this role today.

It’s time for my list. I will be working on it, because there are still some things(latest Swell Season, Devendra Banhart, Julie Doiron etc.) that I have to hear. Anyway, some of my favourites:

Dan Mangan – Nice, Nice, Very Nice [9.8/10]
I think this is my favourite album from this year. Cute, teddy-bear-ish-looking singer-songwriter from Canada. He makes you feel loved inside. Good, strong and dynamic songs, nice vocals, good instrumental work, wonderful lyrics. The best indie pop album from this year. It’s unbelievable that he’s just 25 (date-material! haha!). Dan’s a keeper and you should keep your eye on him!

Andrew Bird – Noble Beast/Useless Creatures [9.5/10]
Again, a masterpiece made by Andrew Bird. It’s balanced, beautiful and unique. It’s pop, folk, it’s wonderfull. I only miss the electric guitar a bit. Still, great lyrics, interesting, wonderfull compositions and vocally pretty strong. Useless Creatures is the best instrumental CD I’ve ever heard, might have even listened more to that one than to Noble Beast. Good Stuff.

St. Vincent – Actor [9/10]
Annie Clark manages to float above her instrumental chaos. Or at least, it looks like that. Her compositions are actually well made. Vocally, Clark is really strong. It’s a pretty unique CD that you’ll love or you’ll hate. I love it.

Jesca Hoop – Hunting My Dress [8.8/10]
To me, she’s live even stronger. Hoop mixes various styles and makes them her own. Great guitar work, great vocals. It might sound weird during your first listen, but it will grow. Especially ‘Murder of Birds’ is a wonderful track.

A.A. Bondy – When The Devil’s Loose[8/10]
I know I didn’t give A.A. Bondy such a high mark in my review. But the album did really grow on me. I listen to it a lot, so points for that!

Franz Ferdinand – Tonight[7.2/10]
Surprising new album from Franz Ferdinand. Still the have their own Franz sound. Good stuff. Typical Franz.

Grizzly Bear – Veckatimest[7/10]
Pretty interesting album, on moments to difficult for me to understand maybe. There are some ‘killer-tracks’ on it, but overall it’s just a pretty solid, nice, album that isn’t really my cup of tea at moments

Regina Spektor – Far [7/10]
Not as strong as Begin to Hope, but again a very good album. Spektor goes from weird classical stuff to pop, not being afraid of sounding ’silly’. Vocally strong, but you have to love her voice. No complains about her instrumental stuff, but it’s not really ‘new’. (Best tracks of the album are simply ‘Laughing With’ and ‘Folding Chair’, these are perfect songs)

Wilco – Wilco(the album) [7/10]
Wilco deliverd another good album. Still, it can’t beat Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but it’s a good try. It’s again the typical Wilco sound(that isn’t really my sound). But it’s a strong, balanced album.

Ultimate Star Ajith was spotted for some time with a thick beard bordering his good looking face.

There were many speculations and conjectures associated with this tuft of hair on Ajith’s face and some even ascribed it to his then impending fatherhood. However, the mystery shrouding his beard got unveiled when it was made known that the popular actor had sported the specific look as per his character in his upcoming film Aegan.

Now Ajith is back to his clean shaven look as the sequences with his beard intact have been shot which are said to be flash back ones. Director Raju Sundaram is geared up for the next schedule where Ajith will be romancing heroine Nayanthara.

According to the story, Ajith’s father has two wives and Ajith happens to be the son of the first wife while Navdeep his step brother with whom Ajith is slated to have emotion packed scenes in the next schedule. Suhasini Mani Ratnam plays Ajith’s step mother.

Cuando uno piensa en George Clooney generalmente uno piensa en actor, sin emabrgo si uno es atento y revisa bien los créditos de las pelis se puede dar uno cuenta que Clooney igualmente es productor, generalmente, de las pelis en las que él actúa y una que otra peli independiente (generalmente son pelis bien entretenidas), es escritor de una (Good Night, and Good Luck) y también es director.

Hoy estuve revisando y resulta ser que me he visto las tres pelis de Clooney y en su orden cronológico. Confessions of a Dangerous Mind de 2002 basada en la novela de Chuck Barris y con el guión de Charlie Kaufman, Good Night, and Good Luck de 2005 que lo llevó incluso a varias nominaciones al Oscar de La Academia y Leatherheads de 2008.

Como actor es garantía de una peli entretenida, a veces con humor fino y otras veces con dramas bastante crudos. Como escritor se toma demasiado serio las cosas y no lo hace naturalmente entonces se siente un poco acartonanado o ladrilludo y como director pues ha sido una loma en bajada. Su primera peli, de la mano de Kaufman me pareció un éxito como producto, su segunda es interesante, es contestataria pero repito un poco muy seria y acartonada. En esta su tercera, vuelve a relajarse un poco, haciendo comedia junto Renée Zellweger, Jonathan Pryce y John Krasinski pero no es una peli que uno vaya a destacar mucho en el futuro.

La banda sonora es impecable, así como el vestuario y los parlamentos que hacen una ambientación de excelente factura. Un detalle de fina coquetería fue usar la marca de Universal Pictures de la época, sin embargo los créditos estuvieron más bien mediocres.

La peli aguanta un domingo pero seguro Clooney es mejor actor y productor ejecutivo que director hasta ahora con lo que ha venido mostrando. No conozco más proyectos en el futuro que no sean actorales. Yo le pongo fé para que ojalá le vuelva a sonar la flauta.

Oh really!?, en serio no se quien este a cargo de hacer los conteos en la revista People, porque año con año eligen a los candidatos menos pensados, por ejemplo Matt Damon ocupo el lugar de honor y este se lo dieron a Jhonny Deep… claro el tipo es un gran actor y muchas mujeres estan tras de el, pero no entiendo porque esa mania de buscar al mas sexy solo en estados unidos, digo en el resto del mundo no hay mas hombres que se lo merezcan, la cereza en el pastel es esa fotografia espantosa de la portada, fue lo mejor que pudieron hacer??!! Duncan Jones’s minimalistic Moon has to be one of the most overlooked and best films of the year.
And aside from being one of the best sci-fi films in recent years – a genre in need of more good films along the lines of Boyle’s Sunshine – it also proves once again that Sam Rockwell is one of America’s most unrecognized actors out there if you ask me.

Who else has style that embodies that of a bohemian pirate with a touch of gentleman charm mixed all together and topped with a pinch of French artistry circa 1850?  Johnny Depp, of course!

I absolutely love this man as an actor and a person with great “individual” style. Some of you are like…he’s sloppy, he looks dirty, lalalalala.  I really don’t care what you people think because you have no style!  Sorry, but if you can’t see it, then there are many things that go unnoticed by you.  Facts!  I may have gotten a wee bit touchy back there, my bad, but I’m infatuated with Johnny boy and not just his style!  We heart him and that’s what it is!  Congrats Johnny on making number trois.  Kisses..

Taylor Lautner, maybe a werewolf in the most popular vampire movie of the season but he is definitely the breakout star.  His Hollywood hunk good looks  that has been the biggest driving force eclipsing even the popular characters of the series Bella and Edward.

He plays Jacob Black,  who is in love with Bella, but is in the tribe of werewolves .  This makes for the compelling push and pull between the enmity that exist between the vampires and werewolves.

Interestingly enough, it has become a marketeer’s dream for the film, since Lautner’s fan base has grown and pitted him against the popular Robert Pattinson.  This has made the feverish hunger for the opening of the movie “The Twilight Saga New Moon“  even more epic.

Lautner’s star is on the rise and, by all indications, is going to surpass Pattinson who has not seemed as accessible to the fans.

Butonam zilele trecute canalele TV şi am simţit cum îmi creşte tensiunea văzând ce a ajuns Claudiu Bleonţ în ultimii ani….Mi s-a părut atât de penibil încât nu am mai simţit pentru el decât milă…

A fost odată ca niciodată un ACTOR care îşi iubea cu patimă meseria şi era un adevărat model pentru actorii de la Naţionalul Timişorean care avuseseră marea şansă să joace alături de el pe vremea directoratului lui Ştefan Iordănescu…Dar i-a trecut atât de repede, încât nu a mai rămas decât un nume pe ecranele emisiunilor de divertisment pentru casnice şi şomeri.

Păcat.

This week’s episode of Beautiful People (Series Two, Episode Two – How I Got My Plumes) saw the arrival of some hawt totty, in the form of Tom Payne – and what an arrival it was! I loved him sweeping in to Teach-in’s Eurovision hit from 1975,  Ding-A-Dong!

Many may know him from BBC’s Waterloo Road, amongst other things, though I have to confess to not knowing of him previously!

As is customary on these pages whenever I stumble across a bit of totty, here’s some pictures of said hawtness!

The dreams have started. Of course everyone dreams all the time, but I only seem to remember them when I’m involved in some big project, like a show.

Last night was a blocking dream. I wonder if other actors experience them? I have the distinct impression I’ve spent all night running through my show blocking for Shining City. I woke up fairly exhausted still.

The last couple of nights, I’ve been dreaming about death. Cheerful, I know. My death, other people’s deaths, people I know mostly, though it varies. The only constant seems to be that they or I can’t move on until they’ve accomplished something or let go of something.

Gee, I wonder what my subconscious is trying to tell me?
