OK, so I’m well and truly out of the loop, having been away for three weeks, but does Google ever stop?

Has it now become too big an entity that it physically cannot stop, and its momentum means there’s no end to its global ambitions.

Perhaps it can’t do anything apart from invent magical printing machines, or virtual newspapers, revolutionise the printing industry etc.

OK, on a more serious note, there’s its new Fast Flip news reader and DoubleClick Ad Exchange which apparently is good for publishing, but I’ve yet to look into this as I’m still going through the last three weeks’ worth of Time Out, and of course Travel Trade Gazette. And I’m a slow reader.

What I’m trying to say is I’m getting confused by the never ending debate over newspapers and online journalism in general. So I was heartened when I read this headline: Are newspapers trapped in a web time warp? from The Observer on September 6 (which our house-sitters kindly left).

It’s made the most sense in a long time, for me, about how newspapers should act online: that they shouldn’t, as it’s either one or the other. Newspapers should stick to being newspapers (and not waste money on chasing web hits), and specialist online sites should stick to doing specific things, eg. “PerezHilton.com for gossip or, perhaps, nearer home, the Mirror’s new football site for soccer’s statistical nerds”, Peter Preston writes.

It’s fascinating reading all about digital journalism, but trying to re-absorb all of this after being pretty much “offline” for three weeks shows how repetitive (and perhaps addictive) the topic is. There’s no solution, perhaps that’s why it’s easier to digest all of the academic writing on the subject. It may even be comforting for us, just going round and round.

For B2B publications, it’s a different story. It’s more about communities, relationships, interaction and collaboration. The web is made for this sort of thing, and this is what I find myself thinking about more and more.

From a personal point of view, I’m still fascinated by the “hyper-local” theme of reporting, and citizen blogging, or even “beat blogs” as Adam Tinworth calls them.

It seems online journalism is fragmenting, and for me it is all science fiction at the moment. I just can’t tell if Google is helping to clarify the situation and level the playing field with its new inventions…

Da qualche giorno è attivo il bolg mirror Sandokan, nel quale riporto vecchi articoli ancora attuali e molte diavolerie fatte nei due anni di attività on-line. Anche se per tutto questo tempo ho sempre disdegnato la pubblicità sui miei blog, oggi la mia opinione è cambiata. D’altra parte questo hobby sta diventando quasi un lavoro, e per quanto mi piaccia farlo, non sarebbe male un piccolo ritorno. Tanto più che, pur preferendo un buon feedback morale alla manciata di euro che gli adsense mi porteranno (se mai mi porteranno;))) , in due anni non ne ho riscontrato molto di questo supporto, malgrado le 3-400 visite al giorno sui Silenti e le altre 2-300 sugli altri miei siti.

Internet funziona così. Lo sorso anno per la prima volta nella storia gli investimenti pubblicitari in rete hanno superato quelli della TV e dei giornali. WordPress non consente l’attivazione di ad-sense e va benissimo così, anche perché mi piace tenere le mie pagine pulite;)))) Ma in questi giorni ho creato altre tre pagine per consultare i miei racconti, divisi per generi. Le pagine sono: Storie di un giorno, Racconti dell’ignoto e Storie Fantasy.

Quindi, sentitevi liberi di consultare questi blog e i relativi sponsor. Tutto il materiale che apparirà regolarmente su questi nuovi siti fa parte dell’archivio di Willoworld.

Happy evening, blog! I have spent the last four hours studying for exams. My brain is full of stratovolcanoes and prepositions and the Reagan Administration. I am afraid that I’ll go to bed tomorrow and I will forget everything I studied. I am studying a little bit each night for each subject, so when exams come, I have more information stored than just one epic cramming session (shut up) the night before. WHATEVER I KNOW I’M A NERD STOP IT.
But anyways, because I worked so hard, I am giving myself the rest of the night off. So I can blog post. YAY!
Only problem. I have nothing to say. What a quandary.

I am listening to music again. I mean, I’m almost always listening to music unless I am on the phone or watching a video or on webcam chat or something. And when I say webcam chat, I do not mean like “CUM C ME ON MI WEBCAM, KKK?” Oh, that reminds me. My past four followers on Twitter have all been these “girls on cam”. It is incredibly annoying. Like any other social site I am apart of, (this here blog, YouTube, Twitter, etc.) when I get an email I am so excited. But when, I go to the inbox and click on this particular person’s homepage and I realize they have one tweet and it’s advertising their SEXUAL WEBCAM. You do realize that I am a fifteen year old girl, right? A straight fifteen year old girl? I am not interested in you, or your what your wonderful description describes.

In other news, there are nine more days of real school left. This isn’t including exams. Just the thought of this gets me through the days. Summer will be epic, I will have much time on my hands to read and write and talk to my friends and listen to Wild Sweet Orange and cry and make bad vlogs and update my BLOG! It will be amazing and I am excited. Speaking of my blog, I really want Google Adsense, but you have to be over 18 and have a bank account. I have neither (not that I can openly deposit, that is) and while I’m sure my dad wouldn’t mind having his name on the checks, I’m not sure if I am ready to expose my dad to the world that is my blog. Also, I’d have to take off my link to my YouTube, as I am not allowed to have a YouTube. Being young sucks, doesn’t it?

Disculpen mi vocabulario soez e inapropiado, pero es que nunca algo me había encabronado tanto como esa chingadera, lo más desagradable es que Google Ad Sense, se preste para colaborar en la propagación de una basura como este anuncio, y es que a quien chingados le va a gustar conocer la fecha de su muerte, al menos a mi no me interesa.

La dinámica de este anuncio es sencilla, solo les envías tus datos de alimentación y vicios que tengas, para después de forma estadística, ellos te dirán cuando científicamente podrías morir, pero para que te lo digan tienes que mandar un mensajito que te cuesta un billete, es realmente una pendejada y mas pendejos los que pagar por saber cuándo van a morir.

Lo que más me molesta de esta pendejada es que si por error llegaras a pasar tu cursor del ratón por encima del anuncio, que casualmente está por todo el maldito internet, esté empieza a gritar de forma agudamente cagante, ahí es cuando me gustaría ir atrás de los pendejos que se les ocurrió esa mamada y sacar una pistola para llenarles el culo de plomo y sacarles las tripas con toda la saña del mundo.

En mi investigación, encontré a los responsables, son la empresa Solidweb con base en Portugal, y las empresas Buongiorno, My Alert inscrita en Madrid, España y por supuesto Google Ad Sense por su propagación.

No caigan en trampas en internet, no le den clic a cosas que no valen la pena, por ultimo a los que son de España esta publicidad es mas cansina que Antonio Larrosa en los fotos de 20minutos.es

Si alguno de ustedes llegara a conocer a algun involucrado en todo esto, hagan que les llueva una lluvia de ostias por mi.

Click Forensics reports click fraud rates hit 17.1% in 4Q08, versus 16.6% in the same period in 2007.

According to CEO Tom Cuthbert, three components contributed to the rise: more dollars filtering into pay-per-click (PPC); increased competition in the click firm industry; and rises in cybercrime and botnet activity resulting from the poor economy.

The average click fraud rate for PPC ads across major sites like AdSense and Yahoo Publisher Network hit 28.2%, down from 28.3% in 4Q07.

31.4% of all click fraud traffic came from botnets, up from 2007’s 22% and 28% from 3Q08. And in the month of December, the highest percentages of click fraud originating from outside the US included Canada (7.4%), Germany (3%) and China (2.3%).

Cuthbert also pointed to the resurgence of click farms.

“Google, Yahoo and others are doing what they can to protect advertisers, but this is an arms race,” he stated somberly. “We’re at the early stages of identifying these issues, and unfortunately it will only get worse.”

He added that additional “industry cooperation” is necessary to lower click fraud rates.

Update: This particular post has gotten some significant traffic (relative to my others, at least). It’s gotten a decent amount of diggs on Digg.com, and others have been promoting it in other places: forums, chatroom, etc. If you are one of these people, thanks.

I have actually gotten some e-mail with some questions about it. Let me explain.

YouTube has recently added in-video adds to their website, meaning that intrusive advertisements spontaneously pop-up at random times while watching a video. Not only is this annoying, but I believe it marks a slippery slope for websites everywhere. YouTube was regarded as a pioneer towards the reduction of intrusive advertising. At most, there was merely a simple banner on the side of the page. This was not too much to ask, seeing as the traffic on YouTube is insanely high, and one can only imagine the cost of maintaining it.

But, because of this recent insurgence of ads, I fear that YouTube will become one of the many pages that shifts the attention away from the content of the site.

Will YouTube’s popularity suffer? Hardly. Call me an idealist.

kadang di data log stats tertera beberapa pengunjung yang datang dengan mengetik kata heboh unik (saya asumsikan mereka secara sengaja mencari nama blog ini). jumlahnya sih kecil mungkin hanya 1% saja. sisanya sekitar 25% s.d. 50% datang ke suatu blog dengan mengetik langsung nama blog. kalau suatu blog atau situs sudah terkenal seperti kompas.com dan detik.com, maka 75% pengunjung yang datang dengan cara ini.

buat apa sih cari traffic sebanyak-banyaknya? ya memang tujuan anda nge-blog lain-lain. nah kalau anda ngeblog dengan tujuan cari duit cari uang dari Google Adsense, jumlah hits pengunjung adalah mutlak. hitungan rata-rata begini, setiap 10,000 hits anda akan mendapatkan uang adsense dari “klik pengunjung” sebanyak US$ 0.5 s.d. US$ 2. jadi kalau anda punya 100,000 hits sehari, berapa dolar yang anda kumpulkan dalam sehari? dalam sebulan? dalam setahun?
