The original is a floaty bouncy Balearic DnB number, nice and middle of the road, a warm comforting bit of mass appeal Drum & Bass. Then Andy C & Ant Miles as Origin Unknown get their hands on it and corrupts it into a bassline beast of epic break proportions – while Dillinja’s remix gets more airtime for being bang out filthy, I think Unknown’s subtle restraint preserves some of the original laidback moments with enough rolling to keep the bassheads happy. Love it!

Andy C and Ant Miles return for their take on “When the sun goes down” in their Origin Unknown guise…and it is suitably grimy. Deep bass, pounding drums…it’s impossible not to move to this song.

I haven’t really been feeling The Prodigy for a good few years and when I heard their latest album ‘Invaders Must Die‘ I couldn’t believe that it hadn’t been made in the 90’s…something about it felt oh so dated.

But then, something changed, I heard Adam F and Horx’s remix of latest single ‘Take Me To The Hospital‘ and I got hooked. Line and sinker this track made me instantly excited. Their use of the already incredible vocal line is immense and so up my street its unreal. This will make any dance floor go nuts, guaranteed.

So Prodigy are releasing Take me to the Hospital from the album Invaders Must Die. And with the release there are a lot of remixes doing the rounds. I’m going to post my personal favourites up here. First one, my favourite,  is the mix by Subfocus. As you would expect, this is a pretty decent D’n'B version with elements of old skool Jungle beats. I think it gets the best out of the original, and brings even more energy to the track.

Next Mix comes from Adam F, a quite prolific Jungle and D’n'B producer and DJ. This mix is much harder than the Subfocus, but brilliant none the less. There are elements of Dubstep and D’n'B in this track with deep bass lines but still at a fast tempo. Its also a favoutite of the great Annie Mac.

Då jag älskar drum n bass och dess olika sub genrer kommer jag denna vecka att spela upp låtar inom 5 av dessa dnb genrer. Jag kommer avhandla darkstep, techstep, neurofunk, dubstep och gammal hederlig drum n bass. Måndagen till ära kommer jag att spela en skön fin drum n bass låt.

Drum n bass är en typ av elektronisk musik som utvecklades tack vare jungle scenen i början av 90-talet. Denna musik är karakteriserad genom snabba breakbeats (signifikativt mellan 165-185 bpm, men med en del variationer i beatsen under låtarna), och med tunga sub-bas slingor. DnB fick sin början via den brittiska rave scenen någon gång under 90-talets början.

Dagens låt är en av mina favoriter inom DnB och är ganska lugn trots de snabba beatsen. Här kommer veckans första låt.

Lamb eru eitt af fáum post-Portishead trip hop böndum sem hafa staðist tímans tönn að mínu mati. (Vissuði annars að gítaristinn sem spilaði með þeim var íslendingur? Oddur Már Rúnarrson, who dat?)

Did you know there was a fancy pants video for this? LOL. This was my first time seeing it.

Everytime I’m thinking of a title for my entry I just let my brain go wild. I was thinking about how much techno I listened to this weekend and then I was like “tech tech tech” and it made me think of Circles. Whenever I break down my thoughts like that, I find it easier and easier to admit that I am indeed crazy.

My friend Mike was in town and so I ventured to one of the techno nights to listen to Atomly and Sassmouth. Great music, awesome djs. I actually am quite the techno fan but don’t really have anyone to gimme the lowdown on the new ish like I used to have back in Minneapolis. So basically whenever I get to indulge in some good techno I’m quite content.

I was completely spoiled by Stunna this weekend cuz he gave me some of the tracks I nag him about and some good mixes. I basically spent sunday cleaning my house and listening to my fave tracks and a six hour long bassdrive mix that Stunna had done a couple of weeks back. I’m three hours in, we’ll have to save the rest for when I decide to clean my bedroom.

No new tracks to talk about today because I am feeling awfully lazy, but I am happy to listen to the new BBS Bookings podcast.

Pretty slow day.

Den låta her er mye fetere i originalmiksen, men jeg må si jeg falt litt for videoen. Dette ser jo unektelig moro ut. Sør-Amerika og Øst-Europa unite, liksom. Men jeg kan ikke annet enn å tenke at bilder som dette er ufeilbare bevis for det jeg har hevdet før, nemlig at raven aldri døde. (Ok, så har ingen benektet dette.) Disse folka har gått i de samme klærne siden ‘93. Jeg så en på Grønland nå nylig. (Rare greier, lever i skjul og kommer bare ut til sommerparaden, kanskje?) Men selv om disse folka tydelig ser noe daterte ut, er de altså i Miami på Ultra Music festivalen. Nemlig. Dansemusikkens festival. Der du kan se Photek og Justice iløpet av èn dag. Sikkert en drøm som ble virkelighet, for de var der, og som sikkert akkurat har kommet hjem fra Sonar i Barcelona. Men faen i helvete. Vi liker ikke festivaler. Jeg liker ikke festivaler. Seriøst. Drum’n'bass i friluft? Det får faktisk være grenser. Da er det bedre å ta 2 brukerdoser 2c-b på et dyrt og sketchy sted på Oslos vestkant. Selv om vi ikke anbefaler det heller.

Men, for å oppsummere tankestrømmen: la meg poengtere hvor mye bedre låta egentlig er (dog denne også remikset, om enn noe mindre forstyrrende).
