Nem tudom, hogy ti hogy vagytok vele, de engem személyesen marhára idegesítenek az olyan weboldalak, amelyeknek a tartalmát csak úgy tehintheted meg, hogy kitöltesz egy bizonyos kérdőívet. Ez az egészet egy állatira szemét szkript okozza. Többféle létezik belőle, ezért nincsen univerzális megoldás, én mégis megtaláltam a módját, hogy hogyan lehetséges ezeket kikerülni. A dolog pofonegyszerű, Firefox webböngészőre van szükséged, és AdBlock Plus addonra. Az AdBlock Plus egy oldal bizonyoz előre meghatározott objektumait tudja blokkolni. A szkriptek megszűntetésére létezik többféle addon is, talán a legnépszerűbb a NoScript. A NoScripttel az a baj, hogy az oldal minden lehetséges szkriptjét blokkolja, ezáltal bizony azokat is, amelyek számodra hasznosak lehetnek. Ezért fogom a dolgot az ADP-vel bemutatni. (amennyiben azt szeretnéd, hogy minden script blokkolva legyen, ezáltal az oldalak bizonyos funkciói elérhetetlenek legyenek, akkor Használhatod a NoScriptet, és társait, és úgy nincsen macera)

Mit is csináljunk?
Először is, meg kell nézni, hogy ki hostolja a szkriptet. Erre több metódus is létezik, én most a legegyszerűbbet fogom bemutatni. A jobb alsó sarkában a szövegdoboznak láthatunk egy szöveget, amivel a cég önmagát reklámozza, “Powered by CPAlead”. Ha nincs ilyen önreklám, akkor jobbklikkel kattintsunk rá valamelyik fölső zöld gombra, majd válasszuk a Tulajdonságok (AKA Preferences) menüpontot. Itt láthatjuk, hogy a cpalead-hez tartozik (*www.cpalead.com*).
Tipp: Ha ilyen gombok sincsenek, akkor ugorj az oldal forrására, és keress rá a script szóra. Mivel szkriptből több is lehet, ezért nem biztos, hogy elsőre megtalálod azt, amelyik a kérdőives blokkolásért felelős. Próbálgass!
Miután megbizonyosodtál róla, nyitsd meg az oldal forrását (CTRL+U, vagy Nézet > Oldal forrása), majd keress rá (CTRL+F) a cpalead szóra.

Ha ez megvan, nyitsd meg az AdBlock Plus blokkolható elemek listáját (Nézet menü)
Innentől két lehetőséged van, ami azon múlik, hogy milyen blokkolási szabályt adsz hozzá az ADP adatbázisához. Ha csak ezt a surveyt akarod számodra véglegesen eltörölni, akkor CSAK a szkript címét, ha viszont az összes CPAlead terméket (weboldal, képek onnan, satöbbi), akkor a következő szabályt kell hozzáadnod:

*cpalead.com*

What a cool idea. I am going to have a play with this…and see how if affects different sites.

Sedan jag började använda tillägget Adblock Plus i Firefox, har mitt surfande varit mycket behagligt. Jag har nästan glömt bort vilket otrolig plåga det kan vara med all reklam som översvämmar vissa webbsidor. På idg.se ser man det här ur annonsörens och webbplatsens perspektiv.

Om en webbplats måste ha stora intäkter finns väl bara två alternativ: besökaren betalar eller annonser. Det ena stänger folk ute och drar ner på antalet besökare, det andra släpper in folk som blir irriterade och frustrerade av all reklam. En tredje väg är att man smyger in reklamen i sidans innehåll, vilket gör det svårare för oss läsare att skilja de båda åt. Var går gränsen mellan reklam och journalistik?

Men det är inte bara Aftonbladet och Expressen som får in pengar via reklam. Även utvecklare av öppen och fri källkod kan göra det. Så blockar man reklam gör man det på dessa sidor också, vilket gör att de inte får de intäkter de behöver. Så det gäller att välja vilka man vill umgås med.

Frågan är hur webbplatserna på sikt ska göra besökarna för att både locka besökare och få intäkter? För de kan inte fortsätta att överösa oss med reklam som de gör nu. Den bara gör besöket på webbsidorna jobbiga.

Jobbigt med reklam

Sidorna blir i sig tunga att ladda. Sidorna bli tunga också för att reklamen kommer från tredjepartssidor. Och är det då strul att ladda från den sidan, kan det stå och tugga en stund.

Under senare år har också flashanimationerna dykt upp. De kan ju vara häftiga i början, men blir bara jobbiga och slukar datorkraft. Det här gör vissa sidor helt oläsliga. Flashbilder kan också utgöra en potentiel säkerhetsrisk.

Lite reklam är väl OK, kan man tycka. Men det är inte lite reklam vi får. Och det påverkar surfandet. Vem kan läsa t ex Aftonbladets sidor utan att ha gallrat i reklmanträsket först?

De flesta har säkert ingen aning om att man kan bli av med allt det här. De surfar på och tänker inte att det finns alternativ. Och det är kanske tur för annonsörerna och deras kunder.

Botemedel i Firefox

Jag har tidigare skrivit om det här men då ur ett säkerhetsperspektiv. Där kan du se hur du gör för att installera de tillägg jag tar upp här.

Själv har jag flera lager som skyddar mitt surfande. I botten ligger NoScript som gör att inga skript körs alls. Jag bestämmer själv vilka sidor som ska få köra sina skript, samt om någon annan webbplats som har skript på sidan ska få köra sina. Jag anpassar mig alltså och där jag känner mig säker och är säker på att jag vill ha innehållet, där är jag tillåtande.

För att slippa reklam kör jag sedan Adblock Plus. På det här sättet slipper jag många bilder. Även här kan jag bestämma om jag vill se bilder eller inte. Men när man har installerat Adblock Plus får man välja vilken mellan olika listor där det finns ökänd reklam, vilken man då slipper automatiskt. Vill man sedan få bort annat, kan man enkelt lägga till en regel för det.

När det gäller flash använder jag Flashblock för att kontrollera dessa. Så även om jag tillåter skript för sidan, behöver jag inte godkänna flash. Det här går att ställa in så att jag tillåter de sidor jag själv vill.

Om det finns några liknande tillägg till Internet Explorer, vet jag inte. Jag har inte kollat in den närmare på 5 år. Jag tillhör de 25% som numera använder Firefox.

Tillägg till brevlådan

Dessutom har det inte funkat för mig att slippa reklam i brevlådan heller, trots att vi sagt till. Det var nu några år sedan. Den som delade ut reklamen fortsatte med det ändå. Men på internet har jag kontrollen.

Finns det ingen brevlåda som kan hindra reklamutdelaren från att stoppa ner den i min låda? Det kanske vore något för en uppfinnare. Jag tror det skulle vara en given succé hos många.

Online web searching has become an integral part of everyone’s lives, and it has become a key way to advertise companies and products. Pricewaterhousecoopers estimated that online searching made up 47% of online advertising in Western Europe in 2008. With over 4 billion search page views in May 2009 in the UK alone, it is obvious that Google firmly holds the main market share of all internet search engines.

Using Google, accessing my companies website is very easy. When I type in Dell to Googles main search bar, it automatically detects that my IP address is in the UK, therefore gives me Google UK, and also gives me Dell’s UK website as the first result. The second result is Dell UK’s laptop section of their website, and the third result is Dell’s main .com website.

I use Mozilla Firefox with the Adblock Plus add on, therefore I do not get any of the paid for advertisements on any websites including Google. This means that Google are loosing out on lots of potential advert clicks as Adblock Plus is one of Firefox’s most popular and most downloaded add ons. When I perform the same search on an unmodified version of Apple’s Safari, I get more ‘Sponsored Results’.

If I take 2 of Dell’s most popular brands, the Inspiron and the XPS, and type them into Google (on Safari), again I get many results linking to Dell directly, but I get more sponsored links to sites which claim to offer discounts on the computers.

Below is a list of what I typed into Google, and what number Dell UK appeared on the list, as well as the number of sponsored links on the right hand side, and what link appeared in the main yellow sponsored link(s).

About a year ago I fired Internet Explorer as my primary browser. Why? Because it crashed on me constantly and took forever at times to transition from one site to another. I’ve found the Firefox browser much more user friendly, especially given the number of plugins that have been developed for the browser.

The ability to customize Firefox with these plug-in extensions is what makes this open-source browser so special. However, there are so many available options for plugins, it’s tough to know what’s worth installing and what will be a complete waste of your time.

There are lists of Firefox plugins that have been created citing the best extensions for web developers or for a better YouTube experience. However, I wanted to create an everyday list of my best choices just for the ordinary online business owner.

Out of these, here are my top 10 Firefox extensions:

1. Adblock Plus. If you have ever been annoyed by all those ads and banners on a site that often take longer to download than everything else on the page, install Adblock Plus and get rid of them. Right-click on a banner and choose “Adblock” from the context menu, and the banner won’t be downloaded again.

2. Colorful Tabs. This simple add-on makes a strong colorful appeal. It sets each tab to a different color and makes them easy to distinguish while beautifying the overall appearance of the interface. After a long day of research when you have lots of browser windows open, this makes online page viewing easier on the eyes.

3. ColorZilla. ColorZilla puts an eyedropper icon in your status bar. Click it and you’ll get a crosshair cursor. As you run this over a Web page, the RGB values of the pixel under the crosshair will display in the status bar, both as three separate values and as a hex value (e.g., R:255, G:255, B:255 | #FFFFFF). I use this all the time if I’m trying to match colors; i.e. a font color to an the primary background on an image, for example.

4. GMail Manager. This Gmail notifier is great if you have multiple Gmail accounts. It allows you to receive new mail notifications along with viewing account details including unread messages, saved drafts, spam messages, labels with new mail, space used, and new mail snippets.

5. MeasureIt. After installing this extension, you’ll have a small ruler icon on the left side of your status bar. When you click on it, your browser window will fade out a little, and you’ll have a crosshair cursor. Drag the cursor over a section of the screen that you want to measure. Next to the box is its height and width, measured in pixels. I use this all the time when trying to measure the size of images. When you’re finished, just hit the Escape key to turn it off and return to normal viewing of the page.

6. Quirk Search Status. Search Status allows you to see how any web site you visit is performing. When you land on a page, SearchStatus lets you view its Google PageRank, Google Category, Alexa popularity ranking, Compete.com ranking, SEOmoz Linkscape mozRank, Alexa incoming links, Alexa related links and backward links from Google, Yahoo! and MSN. This combined search-related information means you can view not only the link importance of a site (according to Google and Linkscape), but also its traffic importance (according to Alexa and Compete), so providing a balanced view of site efficacy. I use this all the time to determine whether a site has enough traffic to warrant accepting a joint venture proposal.

7. Scrapbook. ScrapBook helps you to save Web pages and easily manage your saved collections. Major features are: saving web pages or snippets of a page, saving a web site, organizing the collection in the same way you do bookmarks, full text search and quick filtering search of the collection, and editing of your collected pages.

8. Session Manager. Session Manager helps you manage your Firefox tabs. If you visit the same sites every day, all you need do is open all the sites in separate tabs and/or windows, and then use Session Manager to save the session with a distinct name. Then, you simply go to Tools > Session Manager, pick your session, and all the windows and tabs open up just as you saved them. And, Session Manager tracks your sessions as you surf, and if Firefox (or your system) crashes, you can recover the selection of tabs you had open when it crashed.

9. Tabs Open Relative. Tabs Open Relative makes all new tabs open to the right of the current tab, rather than at the far right of the tab bar. This reduced a huge annoyance I had with how the Firefox browser worked.

10. XMarks. XMarks (formerly Foxmarks) provides seamless bookmark synchronization between your computers and browsers via their synchronization server. Your bookmark (and optionally password) data is securely stored and backed up on their servers and is available online, as well. After you install the add-on, click on the notification to set up Xmarks and start backing up and synchronizing your bookmarks. Install Xmarks on each computer you use, and it seamlessly integrates with your web browser and keeps your bookmarks safely backed up and in sync across all of your computers. Secure Password Sync is an optional Xmarks feature.

Recently I moved from London to Vancouver. Good times. However, the change of physical scenery also meant a change in the internet ads I found coming my way. Where banners in England offered me various swag for only £9.99 per month, they were now offering me something very similar for only $14.99 a month. I say very similar – everything was more aggressive, less subtle and often put a far more negative spin on the world. Think “YOUR HOME IS AT RISK. PROTECT YOUR FAMILY NOW FOR ONLY $14.99 PER MONTH!!!” etc.

Something had to be done.

Lucky for me a righteous dude named Wladimir Palant has invented Adblock Plus! An add-on for Firefox, this little beauty knows the web addresses for advertisements and zaps them. Instead of hot singles or cheap drugs or personal injury lawyers, instead I see soothing white space. A lot less visual noise, and a lot more of my precious attention focused where it should be. This program has seriously changed my virtual life for the better.

Ce n’est pas à vous que je vais apprendre que l’un des avantages de Firefox est la flexibilité que procurent les extensions. Il ne s’agit pas seulement de “personnalisations” mais de l’adaptation de votre outil de navigation à vos besoins et à vos priorités. Chaque utilisateur est différent et finit par trouver la configuration qui répond le mieux à sa façon de naviguer sur la Toile.

Avec les années j’ai essayé puis choisit certaines extensions alors que j’ai finis par en rejeter d’autres parfois parce qu’elles n’étaient pas au point, souvent parce que ma façon de faire avait changée ou même parce qu’à l’usage certaines extensions me causaient plus d’ennuis qu’autre chose si bien qu’à la longue,  j’ai réussit à me faire un “home” assez confortable pour naviguer.

Je vous soumets ici la liste de celles que j’utilise dans mon profil principal de Firefox. Vous en connaissez sans doute plusieurs d’entre elles mais peut-être aurez vous l’occasion d’en découvrir certaines qui pourraient vous faciliter les choses. Je les ai regroupées sous des rubriques pour vous faciliter l’examen de mes suggestions. J’ai aussi ajouté quelques commentaires sur les motifs (parfois futiles) pour lesquels je les ai choisies…

Parce qu’il est (parfois) justifié de filtrer l’information…

D’abord il faut rappeler ce qu’est un navigateur, ce que ça fait et comment ça le fait.

Lorsqu’une connexion est établie entre un client (PC ou autre) et un serveur Web suite à la requête DNS pour obtenir l’adresse IP correspondant à l’URI du site, que le handshake en trois phases (Tcp + syn out / TCP + syn-ack in / TCP + ack out) est réalisé et que la connexion est dans l’état “Established”, ce que le navigateur fait se résume à ceci: téléverser, télécharger et mettre en forme. Il faut aussi noter aussi que cette connexion n’est jamais directe mais passe par de nombreux intermédiaires en entrée et en sortie.

En d’autres mots: quand je suis connecté au site Web “ABC.com”, je ne suis pas chez “ABC.com” mais je télécharge via les routers intermédiaires une COPIE de la page du site web “ABC.com”.

Je suis chez-moi et non chez eux.

Les Web Masters peuvent placer tout ce qu’ils veulent sur leur site, je ne télécharge dans MON PC que ce que je veux.

L’inverse est tout aussi vrai: les sites n’acceptent pas que des clients connectés à leur serveur puissent mettre ce qui leur chante de faire sur le site Web. La règle s’applique dans les deux sens et c’est comme ça qu’Internet marche, plaisant ou pas.

En ce qui concerne la publicité, c’est-à-dire l’information de nature commerciale, c’est de l’information comme une autre.

Si cette information m’intéresse j’ai parfaitement le droit et la possibilité de la lire ou pas, d’accéder aux hyperliens ou pas selon mes préférences. Dans le cas de la publicité l’un des points les plus importants est qu’elle doit rejoindre la clientèle, c’est-à-dire les consommateurs susceptible d’acheter le produit ou le service. Cela suppose que le produit ou service répond à un “désir” de consommer quelconque ET suppose que le consommateur a les moyens financiers de le payer.

Les publicitaires cherchent sans cesse des moyens pour rejoindre leurs clients potentiels et c’est très bien comme ça. Je n’ai rien contre le commerce. Un des points les plus importants d’une campagne publicitaire est de cibler correctement cette clientèle potentielle.

Mais si je ne fais pas partie de la clientèle cible en quoi le fait de ne pas recevoir cette pub va-t-elle changer le résultat des ventes visée par cette publicité? En rien. Rien, rien de rien. L’information sur Internet doit être proposée pas imposée…. Dac?

Je vous suggère de prendre l’abonnement à Easy List et la liste Fr . L’extension Element Hiding Helper n’est pas indispensable mais facilite l’ajout rapide de filtre qui peuvent être modifiées par la suite… Vous devez cependant savoir que certains sites détectent AdBlock Plus et interdisent l’accès aux ressources si la publicité est bloquée. Le cas le plus pendable étant celui de la SRC et de sa plateforme Audio-Video.

Je signale au passage que l’extension NoScript pourrait peut-être vous convenir soit pour des raisons de sécurité, le javascript étant un des vecteurs des “malwares” (surtout pour la plateforme Windows) soit pour des motifs de filtrage… Je n’utilise plus cette extension parce qu’elle oblige à décider si le javascript est autorisé ou non pour chaque nouveau site visité. À vous de voir si cette extension vous convient.

Certains sites n’ont pas de favicons et les bookmarklets n’en ont jamais mais rien ne vous empêche d’en ajouter. Bien que cela ne soit pas indispensable cela donne une apparence plus agréable à votre navigateur… Pour obtenir le favicon d’un site vous n’avez qu’à utiliser le bouton d’identification du site à gauche de la barre d’adresse et repérer celui-ci dans les “médias” sinon en examinant le cache du navigateur avec cache viewer… Favicon Picker permet aussi de les modifier selon vos préférences.

Il existe aussi des sites vous permettant de télécharger des favicons ou d’en générer: Google est votre ami…

Les commentaires sont un apport indispensable aux blogs et vos commentaires ne méritent-ils pas d’être conservés et partageables? Ne croyez-vous pas que faire le suivi de vos commentaires sur un article qui vous intéresse serait plus facile avec un outil adapté? C’est justement le cas avec CoComment de Sun Microsystem. L’extension est supportée “nativement” par de nombreux sites dont WordPress mais vous avez aussi la possibilité de l’utiliser même si le site ne le permet pas directement.

Quant à l’extension QuoteURL , elle vous permet, en sélectionnant le titre d’un article, de le citer avec l’auteur, le lien et la date de visite…

Parce que parfois les cookies sont utiles…

La gestion des cookies est assez élémentaire dans Firefox. J’ai essayé plusieurs extensions pour gérer les cookies mais je crois que celle-ci est la meilleure. Elle permet de sauvegarder les cookies de vos sites préférés et de supprimer automatiquement au redémarrage de Firefox ceux qui n’ont pas été marqués pour la sauvegarde…

Cette extension ajoute à la page des téléchargements de Firefox des informations qui n’y sont pas par défaut tel que le répertoire de téléchargement et l’URI d’où provient celui-ci. Pas indispensable mais assez utile si vous avez besoin de retrouver rapidement cette information.

Sauvegarde! Juste au cas …

Un “MUST”:  juste au cas où quelque chose irait de travers: une fausse manœuvre par exemple. L’extension peut être utilisée pour des sauvegardes planifiées mais je préfère la méthode manuelle.

Feedly est une extension qui remplace l’interface de Google Reader par beaucoup mieux: un véritable magazine regroupant vos blogs préférées, plus facile à configurer que Google Reader et vous permettant de partager vos découvertes par courriel, sur Twitter, FriendFeed ou de les sauvegarder sur delicious ou dans les pages partagées de Google Reader. Findbar basic permet d’accéder à la recherche sur un site via une icône dans la barre de statut plutôt que par le menu édition -> rechercher. Firetray permet de minimiser dans la barre des tâches de Linux…

Profile Switcher est presque’indispensable si vous utilisez plusieurs profils Firefox. Il permet de passer d’un profil à un autre en choisissant de fermer ou non le profil courant. J’utilise par exemple un profil Firefox spécial pour StumbleUpon, un autre pour la navigation “anonyme” avec Tor, The onion router (dont je vous parlerai dans un prochain article….) et un autre pour faire des tests (de nouvelles extensions par exemple… ). C’est plus simple que de passer par le gestionnaire de profil de Firefox (firefox %u –ProfileManager …).

Le javascript pour tous et presque tout

Greasemonkey est une extension que je vous invite à essayer si ce n’est déjà fait. Elle permet d’utiliser du javascript pour modifier l’apparence et le comportement de sites et d’applications web. Vous pouvez évidemment écrire vos propres scripts ou essayer ceux qui vous sont proposés sur le site Users Scripts.

En voici trois susceptibles de vous plaire:

Pour capturer et éditer des pages Web l’extension ScrapBook est ce qui se fait de mieux et de plus simple mais pour des sauvegardes plus avancées avec références et citations, Zotero est l’outil le plus complet actuellement disponible. Pour chercheurs et étudiants.

Parce qu’on n’est jamais trop informé sur les sites visités…

Si FlagFox et ShowIP donnent des informations utiles sur les sites visités, l’extension WOT: Web of Trust est elle aussi un “Must” si vous voulez éviter des ennuis avec des sites peu ou pas recommandables.

La classification WOT est basées sur les évaluations des participants et vous avez la possibilité d’ajouter la vôtre… Je signale qu’il existe aussi quelque chose d’analogue proposés par McAfee: Site Advisor mais l’extension ne marche pas avec Linux et je n’ai pas eu une très bonne expérience avec Site Advisor… J’ai été bloqué par le site sous prétexte que je l’utilisait trop! Je n’ai jamais réussi à obtenir la moindre explication… Je m’en fous car WOT marche très bien…

Well, kids, just in time for July 21, I thought I’d share my favorite Firefox add-ons. What do Firefox add-ons have to do with July 21? Not a damned thing. So sit down and shut your pie holes.

Long-time readers know that I’m a Firefox junkie. I migrated over to the open source browser several years ago after Microsoft’s Internet Explorer navigation issues finally annoyed the living piss out of me — the principal nuisance being the freakin’ clicking that sounded whenever I typed a new address into the search bar.

I stayed with Firefox because it offers a sweet butt-load of (often user-created) add-ons. I’ve downloaded and used literally dozens of them over the years. Most ended up getting deleted after a few days of use. Below I share those that have withstood the test of time. (Yeah, that last sentence was lame. Bite me.)

Adblock Plus
This is a must-have. It blocks the majority of irritating invade-your-screen ads that inhabit a good portion of today’s websites. But if you want to load ads on a page, because you want to support a favorite blog or website with advertising, you can change the settings and allow ads for specific sites. It’s biggest limitation? It doesn’t block Flash-based ads.

ScreenGrab!
This is a simple screenshot add-on that lets you snap pictures of the browser screen. You can save the screenshot in png or jpg formats. It’s very handy when you need to copy an on-screen receipt or to keep a record of [insert socially-unacceptable reference here].

Download Helper
Of all the add-ons in this list, this one is my favorite. This sweet little add-on lets you download just about anything that displays in your browser: photos, files and, most importantly, videos. In fact, while I type this, Download Helper is saving eight YouTube videos to my hard drive.

DownThemAll!
Download Helper lets you download hundreds of files at a time. It includes more filter options then I’ll ever have use for — Hey, I just wanna download pictures into my “Horse porn” folder, you know? The really big plus? It’s waaaay faster than Firefox’s native download manager. Sweetness.

Alright, this post has taken way too long to write. So, go install this stuff, or something. Or don’t.
