As you may know, I love Healbot. Getting started with the mod can seem like a daunting task for a priest.  We have a lot of spells to program, but once you get it done, healing is cake.

There is a pally in our guild who would not use mods.  He shunned them to heal it old-school.  Recently, he gave in, and Healbot blew his mind!  I remember him saying something about not having his heals sniped anymore?

When you download the mod, several of the spells are pre-programmed to your mouse buttons; however, you can change them to your liking.   Here’s a screenshot from the developer’s website (click for larger pic):

I am using a five-button, wireless mouse from Logitech. Nothing fancy! Each button is programmed to a series of spells to be used in conjunction with SHIFT, CTRL and ALT.  

• My “Auto Trinket” is tied to my Circle of Healing using the most awesome Talisman of Resurgence trink. 
• The “unique spells for each spec” is nice.
• I’ve never seen “SmartCast” work.  If any of you have, please comment and share!

Oh, those little bars

You can configure the look of your healbot however you like.  They have added a skin that looks a lot like Grid.  You can control the size of the boxes/bars and where they sit on your screen.  Below is a pic from an FTA raid on the horde.  I resized the boxes so all 40 would fit without driving me crazy.  My 25-man setup is less cumbersome.  You can also tell Healbot to hide your party frames which gives me a lot more screen space.

No More Decursive (or anything else to clutter your screen)

I have actually been able to replace Decursive with Healbot due to the fact the developers have been very good about adding new debuffs to track with each new version.  Debuffs like “Snobolled!” and “Napalm Blast.” I use LEFT+CTRL to dispel; RIGHT+CTRL to cure disease. 

You can pick the colors that will display for each type of debuff so you know exactly what spell to cast.  You can also manually add any debuff that it is not currently tracking under the “Cure” tab.  Just add it under “Custom Debuffs” using the exact name of the buff.

Buff-alicious

You can also set it up to tell you who in the raid is missing a buff by color coding the bars under the “Buffs” tab.  I keep an eye on the obvious priestly buffs: 

• Power Word: Fortitude (white)
• Shadow Protection (purple)
• Divine Spirit (blue)
• Inner Fire  (It is possible to track only you or all priests.) (red)

If just one person is missing a buff, I have programmed the single target versions of each buff in my mouse.

Find the right mod for you

I always see people searching for answers on forums about which healing add-on to use- if one at all.  I have found that it really is up to you trying them out for yourself.  I recently tried Grid+Clique for one day.  Then, I went back to Healbot.  Of course, there are people who swear by Grid, and for the day I used it, I could see why they loved it so much.  I chose to go back to Healbot because my priest was “raised” on it.  She doesn’t really know anything else- which is sad.  And when the raid gets in a tight spot, I don’t need to be in “practice mode” on a new mod. LOL  I may give Grid another try, but for now, “Domo Arigato, Mr. Healbot-O!  You have served me well.”

Dù còn “non trẻ” so với Internet Explorer, nhưng kể từ khi ra đời nó đã lấy đi không ít thị phần của ứng dụng “độc tôn” một thời này. Người dùng yêu thích Firefox là vì nó có một kho add-on rất đồ sộ.

Với sự gia tăng không ngừng về các mổi hiểm họa bảo mật, thì việc lựa chọn một ứng dụng trình duyệt có khả năng bảo mật cao là một sự lựa chọn “khôn ngoan” của cư dân mạng khi mà hầu hết các cuộc tấn công đều nhắm vào loại ứng dụng dễ bị tổn thương này.

Tuy chưa phải là ứng dụng trình duyệt bảo mật nhất,  nhưng Firefox  vẫn được khá nhiều người dùng lựa chọn, bở vì cũng như các ứng dụng trình duyệt khác, Firefox có một số cài đặt bảo mật cơ bản giúp bảo mật phiên trình duyệt của người dùng. Ngoài ra nó còn có một kho add-on khá đồ sộ cung giúp cung cấp thêm nhiều tính năng bảo mật cũng như các công cụ hỗ trợ trình duyệt.

Dưới đây chúng ta sẽ “điểm mặt” 10 trong số những add-on giúp tăng cường bảo mật cho Firefox.

1. NoScript

Nếu chúng ta chỉ muốn cài đặt một add-on, thì tốt nhất hãy cài NoScript. Mặc định, add-on này có chức năng chặn mọi tập lệnh. Sử dụng tập lệnh là một trong những cách thức phổ biến nhất mà tin tặc sử dụng để cài đặt phần mềm độc vào hệ thống. Tuy nhiên, sau khi cài đặt chúng ta có thể cấu hình cho phép JavaScript, Java, … vận hành từ những miền được chỉ định.

2. BetterPrivacy

BetterPrivacy là một add-on giúp quản lý Flash cookie rất hiệu quả. Flash cookie rất khó xóa bỏ, không bị hết hạn, ngoài ra còn có thể tạo lại những cookies HTTP đã bị xóa trước đó.

Flash cookie (hay còn gọi là Local Shared Object – LSO) là những phần thông tin được plugin Flash lưu trữ trên máy tính. Chúng được đặt trong những thư mục hệ thống trung tâm để không bị xóa bỏ. Mặc dù dung lượng của chúng lớn hơn nhiều so với cookie thông thường, nhưng rất ít người dùng chú ý tới chúng. Vấn đề ở chỗ, sau một khoảng thời gian, hàng trăm Flash cookie được lưu trữ trong những thư mục cụ thể, và chúng sẽ không bao giờ bị xóa bỏ.

BetterPrivacy có thể ngăn chặn được điều này bằng cách cho phép xóa bỏ những đối tượng này mỗi khi tắt ứng dụng trình duyệt. Thông thường tiến trình xóa tự động là rất an toàn, đặc biệt nếu công cụ định giờ xóa đã được kích hoạt. Công cụ định giờ này có thể trì hoãn tiến trình xóa tự động cho những Flash cookie mới hay đã được hiệu chỉnh mà có thể đang được sử dụng. Ngoài ra nó còn cho phép xóa những đối tượng này ngay lập tức nếu muốn.

Với BetterPrivacy chúng ta có thể kiểm tra, bảo vệ hay xóa bỏ những Flash cookie mới một cách riêng rẽ. Nếu muốn quản lý mọi cookie một cách thủ công, chúng ta có thể hủy bỏ chức năng tự động.

3. Adblock Plus

Khi đã cài đặt add-on này, phải chuột lên một banner chọn Adblock từ menu ngữ cảnh, banner này sẽ không được tải lại nữa. Thậm chí nó có thể thay thế những phần của banner bằng những biểu tượng “*” để chặn những banner tương tự. Ngoài ra chúng ta có thể lựa chọn một phương thức lọc trong lần khởi chạy đầu tiên của Adblock Plus, sau đó phương thưc lọc này sẽ chặn tự động mọi quảng cáo.

4. Perspectives

Perspectives là một phương pháp mới giúp các máy trạm xác định các máy chủ Internet một cách bảo mật để tránh các cuộc tấn công man-in-the-middle (một phương thức nghe nén, trong đó tin tặc thực hiện các phiên kết nối độc lập với các nạn nhân đồng thời chuyển tiếp các mail giữa họ làm cho họ tin rằng đang trực tiếp nói chuyện trực tiếp với nhau qua một kết nối riêng). Mặc dù đây không phải là một công cụ hoàn hảo, nhưng nó cảnh bảo cho chúng ta khi có nguy cơ về bảo mật.

5. SSL Blacklist

SSL Blacklist là một công cụ được phát triển từ Perspectives giúp bảo mật TLS/SSL bằng cách dò tìm những giấy phép yếu hay đã bị hủy bỏ, những giấy phép này có thể gây ra các vấn đề bảo mật. SSL Blacklist còn có thể kiểm tra xem giấy phép này có được phát triển trên thuật toán hash MD5 dễ bị tấn công hay không. Thuật toán này là một điểm yếu bảo mật khác.

Khi phát hiện ra sự cố bảo mật, SSL Blacklist sẽ hiển thị một thông báo như sau:

6. WOT

WOT là một add-on từ Web of Trust Services. Nếu chúng ta truy cập vào một trang Web có dấu hiệu không an toàn, WOT sẽ đưa ra cảnh báo đồng thời có biện pháp bảo vệ hệ thống trước khi chúng ta tương tác với một trang Web độc. WOT có thể bảo vệ hệ thống trước các hiểm họa trực tuyến như:

• Spyware, adware và virus
  
• Khai thác ứng dụng trình duyệt
  
• Những cửa hàng trực tuyến không tin cậ
  
• Giả mạo, spam và những hình thức khác

Với khả năng phân loại mức độ an toàn lên đến 21 triệu trang Web, WOT bao gồm nhiều thông tin được lấy từ những nguồn tin cậy, như danh sách đen spam và giả mạo, cùng với thông tin do người dùng cung cấp. Công cụ này sử dụng các thuật toán tinh viddeer tạo ra các đánh giá mới và đáng tin cậy nhất. WOT đánh giá mức đọ an toàn dựa trên 4 tiêu chí:

• Tính chất tin cậy
  
• Mức độ tin cậy của nhà cung cấp
  
• Riêng tư
  
• Mức độ an toàn của trẻ nhỏ

WOT cho phép tùy chỉnh cấp độ bảo vệ để bảo mật ứng dụng trình duyệt. Để bảo vệ gia đình, chúng ta có thể cài đặt WOT chặn mọi nội dung không phù hợp với trẻ em.

7. PhishTank SiteChecker

PhishTank SiteChecker giúp người dùng đưa toàn bộ PhishTank vào ứng dụng trình duyệt Firefox để bổ sung thêm khả năng phòng vệ trước các cuộc tấn công giả mạo.

Mọi truy cập vào các trang có “tai tiếng” về giả mạo đều bị chặn, tuy nhiên người dùng có thể lựa chọn tiếp tục phiên truy cập.

Ngoài ra PhishTank SiteChecker còn có một số tính năng bổ sung khác như:

• Tùy chỉnh thanh trang thái
  
• Hệ thống hỗ trợ/ghi lại lỗi
  
• Tham chiếu để thay đổi hành vi với những trường hợp nhất định
  
• Khả năng tắt bỏ bộ lọc giả mạo
  
• SafeView cho phép xem những trang giả mạo trước khi tải lại bộ lọc
  
• Một danh sách đen Up-To-Date sử dụng dữ liệu từ PhishTank

Lưu ý: WOT và PhishTank SiteChecker khá tương đồng về chức năng. Đôi khi hai add-on này có sự xung đột.

8. TrackerWatcher

Privacychoice đã phát triển Trackerwatcher, một add-on cho phép kiểm tra những gì đang diễn ra trong phiên trình duyệt. Trackerwatcher sẽ cho chúng ta biết những mạng quảng cáo nào đang cung cấp nội dung quảng cáo tới trang Web mà chúng ta đang truy cập, chúng có sử dụng công cụ xác định mục tiêu hay không và phương pháp loại bỏ chúng.

9. BugMeNot

BugMeNot là một dịch vụ cung cấp thông tin đăng nhập cho các trang yêu cầu đăng nhập. Nó hầu hết được sử dụng cho những trang mà chúng ta không muốn đăng ký. Mọi phiên đang nhập đều được người dùng xem xét, và các phiên đăng nhập này có thể được kí hiệu là “làm việc” hay “không làm việc”. Khi tỉ lệ làm việc thấp hơn 50% thì phiên đăng nhập đó sẽ bị xóa bỏ khỏi BugMeNot.

10. Xmarks

Xmarks thực chất không phải là một add-on bảo mật, nhưng nó là một add-on rất hữu dụng. Nó giúp đồng bộ hóa bookmark giữa nhiều ứng dụng trình duyệt. Hiện nay Xmarks hỗ trợ Firefox, Internet Explorer và Safari.

Ngoài ra, Xmarks còn cung cấp khả năng tìm kiếm thông minh, và cung cấp thông tin trang được tích hợp trong ứng dụng trình duyệt. Chúng ta chỉ cần click thanh Location để kiểm tra thông tin chi tiết về trang đang truy cập.

With the ability to add extensions, Mozilla Firefox is one of the most flexible browsers around. Today, we’ll be discussing HackBar, one of the many add-ons available for Firefox.

First things first, you can get HackBar from Mozilla’s site directly, through this link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3899

What does HackBar do? Well, the main purpose of HackBar is to provide you with an easy interface to test out SQL injection techniques. HackBar provides many shortcuts such as converting strings into their CHAR() equivalents in MySQL, one-click encrypting to MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and ROT13, encoding and decoding of URLs, etc.

I’ve found the encoding and decoding of URLs to be especially useful. Some addresses are URL encoded, and it makes it hard to decipher the exact content. With HackBar, you can click the ‘Load URL’ button to load the current URL into HackBar’s text box, then click URL decode to decode the URL and give you the address in plain text.

Another useful feature is the MySQL union select statement. It’s a one-click solution that gives you the union select for as many columns as you specify. Definitely a real time-saver when there are lots of columns, as you no longer need to type every single one manually.

For those who are interested in security audits, HackBar is one tool that you want to have.

Ik heb de laatste tijd nogal wat zitten vloeken op mijn firefox -het ding crasht meer dan Richard Hammond en is ongeveer even traag als Captain Slow hemzelve- en ik zou eigenlijk maar wat graag fulltime willen overschakelen op Chrome, ware het niet dat sommige add-ons werkelijk onmisbaar zijn -ik denk daarbij aan Xmarks (het vroegere Foxmarks), DownloadHelper en zo. Recent heb ik er twee toegevoegd die het rijtje misschien wel kunnen vervoegen: Juice & Webmynd, allebei add-ons die verbeterde zoekmogelijkheden beloven.

Het basisprincipe van beide add-ons is vrijwel identiek: ze geven je meer dan enkel maar Googleresultaten.

Altijd kennis bij de hand!

Wordt Webmynd geactiveerd wanneer je de Firefox-zoekbox gebruikt, dan is de praktische werking van Juice toch net iets anders: zit je op een site waar je een bepaald woord niet begrijpt, dan laat je het geselecteerde woord gewoon vallen in de rechtermarge van de browser; het Juicepaneel wordt uitgeklapt waarin je vervolgens meer uitleg wordt geserveerd. Om de meest relevante resultaten te tonen maakt Juice geen blind gebruik van Google of Wikipedia; net als bij Google Reader heb je hier de mogelijkheid om via Magic de meest relevante informatie te voorschijn te toveren: voor persoonsnamen zal dat inderdaad vaak een wikipedia-artikel zijn, voor filmtitels een IMDB-pagina en ga zo maar door. Juice geeft je verder ook nog de mogelijkheid om afbeeldingen of video’s in de marge te laten vallen, zodat je ze later opnieuw kunt bekijken. Het jammere daarbij is wel dat er enkel uitgegaan wordt van het  actieve browserscherm: het zweeft met andere woorden niet boven Firefox heen. Heb je andere Firefoxschermen openstaan -bij mij zijn dat er vaak wel een stuk of elvendertig- dan worden de Juiceresultaten daar niet overgenomen. Eigenlijk heb ik het nog niet zo lang gebruikt om te weten of ik dat jammer vind. Hoogstwaarschijnlijk niet zelfs. Los daarvan biedt Juice een naadloze integratie met Facebook en een hele batterij andere sites -del.icio.us, digg, reddit, en ga zo maar door. Heb je via Juice Gantt Chart laten opsnorren, dan krijg je via het tekstballonnetje rechts onderaan ook de meest relevante tweets over Gantt Charts. Ik ben zo geen twitterbeest, dus voor mijn part hadden ze het er even goed uit kunnen laten. Nergens kun je overigens je Juice instellingen manipuleren.

Webmynd doorzoekt je eigen favoriete sites

Ook Webmynd -ook beschikbaar voor Explorer, trouwens- doorzoekt naar eigen zeggen the real web: het gebruikt dus meer dan enkel Google, ook de meest relevante tweets -zucht- worden in rekening gebracht, of de recentste wikipedia-artikels. Hier kun je wel nog je eigen favoriete sites toevoegen bijvoorbeeld om de resultaten naar je eigen voorkeuren te plooien. Webmynd zal ook rekening houden met vroegere zoekopdrachten, waardoor het gemakkelijk wordt om materiaal terug te vinden dat je vroeger al eens hebt bekeken. Ook websites kunnen worden gelogd, overigens, als je dat zou willen. Ook hier heb je uiteraard ook voldoende mogelijkheden om de gevonden info meteen te delen op Facebook en de hele santeboetiek.

The new browser from google , the chromium browser in short known as the chrome sure is creating  a lot of waves in the browser UI , its sleek and designed to be sexy and appealing , but with the versatility and the openness of FF it is possible to replicate it on Firefox. Here are a few addons i found using which i was able to convert my firefox into a chromifox.

Kikin is an add-on that puts relevant search results for Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Amazon, eBay, and iTunes above your regular search results from sites like Google, Yahoo, and Bing.  It works with Firefox, IE, and Safari.

After you install it just perform your searches like you normally would.  Kikin will appear on the results page at the top, and there will be tabs for each service (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc) with relevant search results. If you connect your Twitter account you’ll also see all relevant tweets or just tweets from people you follow.  You can also reply and send out tweets right from the results page.

If you’re viewing the YouTube tab, you can watch the videos without leaving the page.  If kikin gets in your way, you can easily minimize it.  To see kikin in action, check out the screencast below (best viewed in HD in full screen):
