WordPress has a tool that shows me what words did people use to get to my blog and a few times I was seeing “grid+holy priest” or “settings+grid+priest”. We all know that healers needs raid frames to be effective. At the moment there are a lot of options and everyone will use at the end what they feel comfortable with.

A long period of time I was a Healbot user and I am not ashamed to admit it, but it wasn’t in the time when Healbot was deciding for you. Anyway, after I joined Barbarians, an end game raiding guild, Healbot wasn’t enough for my needs so slowly I start using Grid. I was trying it a few times before but because I didn’t know how to set it properly I just went on the easy side saying that “i don’t like it”.

When I decided that my reason was silly and I need to see what can Grid really do, I ended loving it.

So, let’s start with what I use:

grid

grid-status-raid-debuff

grid-indicator-side-icons

grid-indicator-corner-icons

grid-status-raid-icons

grid-status-hots

The menu for Grid at the start is pretty easy (type /grid config to bring up the menu)

Frame

Layout

Status

Debugging

Profile

Start with making a profile: Grid -> Profile -> Other (and here type your grid profile). Press enter.

Go to Layout and first select a Layout for Solo. Like this you will be able to see how your settings will look like. I set it here by group of 25, but doesn’t really matter as long you didn’t select None.

Now you should be able to see your frame. Go to Layout -> Scale (down the right window) and scale your frame. It will still look like a square, but don’t be scared, we can still sort it out Go to Frame -> Advanced and select the Hight and the Width of frame, Font size, Texture.

I guess now your grid frame should look like you want.

Now, colors… (ALL THE SETTING WILL BE SO YOU WON”T USE CLASS COLORS FOR FRAMES) Grid -> Status -> Healt. Under that you will find Healt Deficit. Be sure you have it Enable, and uncheck Use class color. For Unit health i have selected a color slightly darker (NOTE: i heard you can’t select fall back color to be … blue for example, but mine are like this for a reason: to notice me when some one has disease, magic debuff) If you want a fall back color different, and not white, at unit health select one that will have a small tent for the one you like (Ex: white pink, white blue). My color tool is: Color Tools

Now, take in account I don’t use a different fall back color so my settings for Disease and Magic debuff will consider this.

Me GRID settingsAll the settings will be done in: Grid -> Frame

Border : Debuff type: Disease and Debuff type: Magic

Healt Bar Color: Death Warning, Debuff type: Disease and Debuff type: Magic, Off line warning, Unit Healt

Healing Bar: Incoming heals

Center Text: Unit Name, Feign Death Warning, Off line warning, Death warning

Center Text 2 (you need to enable this in: Frame -> Advanced ->Enable Center Text 2 Indicator (you will find it on the right window with setting at the top)): Death warning, Debuff: Ghost, Health Deficit, Incoming Heals, Off line warning

Center Icon: Debuff type: Disease and Debuff type: Magic, Raid Debuff, Ready Check

Icons (sides) :

Left Icon -> Raid Target Icon Player

Right Icon: Buff: Prayer of Mending (you need to add it to grid: Status -> Auras -> In the space for Add new Buff type the name and press enter. After this you will find it where all the other buffs, debuffs, settings are)

Icons (corners):

Top left corner Icon (right): Buff: Power Word: Shield and Debuff: Weakened Soul (ideea here is to show me that I can’t cast a new shield after the one that i casted finished his effect from absorbing or just by running off). Also you need to add it if you can’t find it.

Bottom right corner Icon (Left): Buff: Renew

Bottom right corner Icon (right): here i have added manually to grid a few cd’s that I like to know when are used on a certain target. Ex: Pain Suppression, Guardian Spirit, Divine shield, Icebound Fortitude etc

Bottom Left Corner: Incoming Heals

Corner Text Top Right: Hot count (Here I like to know when people have a hot running. It will count my renew also)

Frame Alpha: Death warning, More then 10, 100, 30, 40 yards away (here… i think is wrong, but it’s working for me) and Off line warnings

Top side: Disease and Debuff type: Magic

Bottom Side: Aggro alert

This is how my settings looks like.

Also, if you want to modify the scale of the middle icon go to Frame -> Advanced (the settings are on the right window). For the other icons you need to go under Advanced. Just look at the picture.I hope this will answer to a lot of questions. Feel free to correct me if something is wrong. At the end your grid will look like this:

Happy healing!

So, another raiding night that was expected with fervor considering we stopped Ulduar and is not muc

So, another raiding night that was expected with fervor considering we stopped Ulduar and is not much else to do. We had only Toc25 heroic left, so.. yey, shiny new items and the hope for a new cloak. We had hight expectations because would have been the first time with 2 holy paladin on Anub so each penetrating cold target would have had a designated healer. Usually the healing set up was 1 holy paladin (because we just didn’t had a second available), 1-2 resto shaman, 1-2 resto druid and 2-3 discipline priest, of course, not all in the same raid

Anyway, ideea is that we failed getting insanity second time. We failed starting from champions (dispelling problem) but I personally thing people were too relaxed because of the long break we had but that’s not the reason of this post… I want to qq because for the first time when i thought I can finely take a breath on Anub and not heal 2 targets, but just one, the add-ons failed us!

Usually everyone has assistance and only one person has enable a boss mod for marking ppl. Not everyone use the same boss mode: we have people with DBM, DXE or… the “updated” mod BigWings. What happen tonight was that when the Penetrating Cold was up, the boss mod was applying marks on people so healers could take care of there targets, but… surprize! another mod changed the marks like in the second 1.2…

So… WHO AM I HEALING?

Result? we failed!

For the next attempt we had of course only one person with assist that had enable on his boss mode the marking on targets with debuff. I am not sure if it was BigWings, but after a bit of chatting in my healers channel, that is what I understand. Seems it uses a different way to mark people with Penetrating Cold that will replace the first marks… We ended with using only DXE so for now I do recommend it if you are still struggling to kill Anub in 25 heroic.

Well… waiting for next reset with another lesson learned i guess.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/8823
Jist: It combined your address bar and search bar into one and does so really efficiently. If you type in a URL, you go there. If it’s not a URL, the term gets searched.

This is the second one: The Firefox Twitterbar.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4664
Jist: You type your tweet and send it from your address bar.

More than the sum of its parts: Twitterbar alone is worth the price of admission, but because Omnibar opens up more room on the address bar, you get 136 out of 140 characters you can write your tweets with.

Bell posted a great rant about Paladin buffs at 4Haelz. If you play a Paladin, please go read it now.

http://4haelz.blogspot.com/2009/11/buffing-for-paladins-101.html

This clearly falls under knowing your class. Coordinating anything is hard. Keeping track of whom to heal, who is MT/OT or who gives which buffs is tough. That’s why we have add-ons like Pally Power — to make life easier for everyone. Bell’s story is avoidable but it requires you know your class and can coordinate with everyone else.

In a PUG, don’t be afraid to ask who is doing what. Scratch that — in a PUG make sure everyone is clear on who is doing what. Even if you’re not the coordinator of the raid shout out in vent or /ra and make sure everyone knows. Raids go far smoother when everyone has good assignments and sticks with them.

Recount, that bane of every DPSers life is such a memory hog. I have decided to try life without the flickering coloured bars showing my position relative to everyone else. As long as I am doing my job I no longer am too troubled about the peaks and troughs of DPS on various fights. I know what i should be pushing. 8k at twins, 7k on Anub, 5k elsewhere etc etc. To provide a more detailed insight into my performance I have installed Skada. Im hoping that the information it provides will assist my gameplay rather than me watching the bars go up and down!

Skada seems to provide all the information I need from personal DPS through to areas of concern / fails as well as giving an indication of others performance. Plus its pretty blue bars match so well with the rest of my UI

Eclipse: Come Patch 3.3, you will no longer be able to chain back-to-back Eclipse procs so easily. A

Eclipse:

Come Patch 3.3, you will no longer be able to chain back-to-back Eclipse procs so easily. A cooldown is being added so that one two Eclipses cannot be active within 15 seconds of each other, in addition to the 30-second cooldown each eclipse has independently. From MMO-Champion:

Druid (Forums / Talent Calculator)

Eclipse: This effect will not activate again within 15 seconds of either type of Eclipse effect firing, in addition to the existing 30-second cooldown for each type of Eclipse.

Currently, if you have the addon WiseEclipse or use a /cancelaura macro, you can have almost guaranteed back-to-back Eclipses, proccing a Solar Eclipse with a Starfire still benefiting from the Lunar Eclipse buff.

To refresh your memory, the current tooltip of Eclipse is as such:

When you critically hit with Starfire, you have a 100% chance of increasing damage done by Wrath by 30%. When you critically hit with Wrath, you have a 60% chance of increasing your critical strike chance with Starfire by 30%. Each effect lasts 15 sec and each has a separate 30 sec cooldown. Both effects cannot occur simultaneously.

The 15-second added ‘cooldown’ runs in synch with the 15-second Eclipse buff. However, it persists even if you cancel your Eclipse buff (which is what a /cancelaura macro or WiseEclipse did). This means that this change is only a nerf if you used one of the two aforementioned methods in order to benefit from a buffed spell without actually having the buff. Yeah, for all those that were using WiseEclipse or /cancelaura, it’s a nerf. But only a very slight one.

2pc Tier 8:

Item – Druid T8 Balance 2P Bonus – Increases the bonus granted by Eclipse for Starfire and Wrath by 7%. (Down from 15%)

Yup, it’s a nerf. However, it’s a nerf that many Moonkins predicted would come. The 2pc Tier 8 bonus was really just too powerful for its own good. I personally held off getting 4pc Tier 9 because, (a) I didn’t have access to the ilevel 258 version and (b) the 2pc Tier 8 bonus was too strong to drop for anything less. However, come Patch 3.3, if you have access to the 4pc Tier 9 set, take it. It will be an upgrade over 2pc T8/2pc T9.

4pc Tier 10:

Item – Druid T10 Balance 4P Bonus – Your critical strikes from Starfire and Wrath cause the target languish for an additional 7% of your spell’s damage over 4 sec. (Up from 5%)

Yay, it’s a buff! It still remains to be seen how exactly this set bonus will work (as I commented on in this post). However this turns out to work, increasing the damage coefficient is always going to be nice.

The following guide will show you how to make Mozilla Firefox extremely streamlined without there being any loss of functionality.

If you follow this guide through, you're Firefox will end up looking similar to this (the only difference might be the theme you decide to use):

1. Right-click on the menu-bar in Firefox and un-check 'Bookmarks Toolbar'. Underneath 'Bookmarks Toolbar' it says 'Customize…'; click on this. When the box shows up, put a check-mark beside where it says 'Use Small Icons'. When you're finished putting a check-mark beside 'Use Small Icons', drag and drop Firefox's search-box into the 'Customize Toolbar' box, which will remove the search-box from Firefox (don't worry, later on in this guide I'll show you how to perform Google searches directly from the address bar). Once you're finished, click on 'Done'.

2. Right-click on the menu-bar, and click on 'View'; under the context-menu, make sure that 'Status Bar' is un-checked.

3. Download and install the following Mozilla Firefox extensions:

Hide Caption Titlebar Plus (this will hide the caption titlebar at the very top of your web-browser. Don't worry, the minimize, restore and close buttons will still show up.)
Hide Menubar (this will obviously hide the menu-bar. Simply press the Alt key to make the menu-bar come up when you have to use it.)
Smart Stop/Reload (this will combine the Stop and Reload buttons, making them one; this is what it's like in Google Chrome.)

4. Since you removed the search-box in Firefox, you'll want to have Firefox still be able to perform Google searches without leaving the page you're on, right? To be able to perform Google searches using the address-bar in Firefox, you simply have to do the following:

Type 'about:config' in the address-bar. You'll get a warning message; ignore it and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise'. In the filter box, type 'keyword.URL'. Modify the string to http://www.google.com/search?btnG=Google+Search&q=

After doing this, you'll be able to perform Google searches directly from your address-bar without having to use the search-box. This is similar to how Google Chrome functions.

5. Install a good compact theme of your choice from addons.mozilla.org

You're done! I hope you enjoy your new streamlined Firefox setup.

PS. I understand that some people out there may find this setup to be overly minimalistic; you're free to change/not change whatever you wish/don't wish to change.

Back when I was a Firefox user on Windows I used an extension called IE View. The simple idea behind

Back when I was a Firefox user on Windows I used an extension called IE View. The simple idea behind it was to right-click on a link within Firefox and be able to open it in Internet Explorer. There’s also an OperaView extension which does the same thing for Opera, which is a lot more practical for people who have made a decision to use an OS other than Windows.

Now that Google’s Chrome (as well as the open source Chromium project, which is what I’m using to write this and has lead me to refer to this browser as Chrom[e|ium]) is so popular someone’s come out with an extension to let you open a link in Chrom[e|ium] from within Firefox. There’s just one problem. Sometimes you’re on a site and you want to use an extension that is only available in Firefox, such as DownThemAll! (DTA) I ran into this when I found a site with wallpapers for the EarthHour project.

Right now I have to snag the URI, open Firefox, and then paste the URI into the Firefox location bar to get the benefit of DTA on the site. What a pain in the arse. Can someone help make a Chrom[e|ium] extension to give us this flexibility? People are finding that Firefox doesn’t “float their boat” anymore and Chrom[e|ium] is a great alternative for them, but some of us have to keep the fox around just to be able to use some of their favorite Fx extensions. An extension to open a link in Firefox from within Chrom[e|ium] would be a very popular addon.

What about the Epiphany browser? I’m definitely falling out of love with it since they killed the Gecko version, but that’s the subject of another post, which I’ll hopefully be able to write this weekend.

Technology was suppose to save us time! And that is true for many processes we encounter every day

Technology was suppose to save us time! And that is true for many processes we encounter every day – crunching numbers, finding directory information, researching, word processing, taking pictures and sharing them, etc., technology has made life much easier.

But . . . . go outside the main stream services and products just a little and . . . . BANG! . . . . your time disappears into a black hole of technological marvels all telling you what each widget can do. Great!

Lots of great programmers coming up with lots of new tools. What they don’t tell you, are the glitches with applying each one. You have to go here and you have to go there and you have to ask this person and that other support person and then you have to ask more questions (because they know their stuff but you don’t know what they know) - the time consumption is horrendous! And, of course, you find out in articles that if you happen to pick the wrong basic thing and combine it with another wrong basic thing, you’ll have to start all over again!!!

The industry is so segmented and each component is so specialized, there’s no one out there thinking through the business aspects and linking everything. – oh – correction – there could be – but another chunk of hours trying to find them because you’re likely not using the right terminology! . . . .I could be asking for an orange but I was suppose to ask for a navel orange . . . !!!!

Yes, it’s okay to have specializations – it’s necessary – the same as a mall – you have a clothing store, a shoe store, a drug store, a grocery store but they are all linked into one common thread – shopping and there’s a path from store to store. Stores display their wares – warts and all – and store people help you figure out if something is right or wrong for you.

For instance, someone told me to start a blog on WordPress so I did and I have found it to be a very interesting process. Because I’m learning, I have been doing a lot of research and am now starting to understand how I turn blogging into an on-line business.

So, I think up an idea, I want to try it only to find out that I cannot do that on .com but I need to go now to .org of the same name company - huh???? For non-techie’s, this simply doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. Why not just simply include it in upgrades and make it seamless for the consumer.

So now I have to figure out the difference between the two, find a web host, download .org software, and I’m on my own for all kinds of things like controlling spam. Makes no sense at all to me.

If I were the company, I’d make it possible to add on some widgets on the sidebar the same as Blogger does – I don’t have to go to Blogger.org to do it – and I still get all the same coverage as just the regular old Blogger – simple – easy!

I have spent hours now talking to AWebber who are so terrific in explaning technology easily and making their services so user friendly, it’s incredible! If all online services studied AWebber about how to explain their to services to clients and how to make their product easy to use as well as how to use their product with other products, then all of this process would be simple. AWebber know their stuff and are willing to help – they know they are the technology experts and the people using their services are often not nor do clients have the time to “figure it all out”.

So, the moral of the story – technology can chew up time like there is no tomorrow. If you are entering into a new part of the technology world, expect to spend a huge amount of time sorting what’s what and practically becoming a techie yourself.

It’s like this – getting into new technology is like buying a car in parts – you have to research and pick your own body, engine, drive shaft, transmission, ignition, etc and understand what each part does, figure out if they are compatible and then you have to put it together yourself, do the mechanical repairs yourself and monitor your car with all kinds of gadgets to make sure it’s all working properly! Oh, yes, and you’d have to know little tricks too like adding the transmission fluid – if you didn’t know these tiny little facts that likely no parts person would tell you, your transmission won’t work! If anyone had to buy a car this way, there would be few people buying cars – in fact, the car industry would likely never sold a one!

They say, well, there are techies who can help you. Ah . . . . but . . . . that’s a whole other story altogether – which one? for what purpose? Unlike a car, there is no car mechanic who knows all the systems, how they are all work together and how to fix problems. No, in technology, even for a small thing like a small website, you need a designer, a graphic designer, a SEO expert, and the list goes on for just a simple website.

Yes, you say, well get one already made. Really? Then, you have to figure out if the the company which is offering these “ready mades” will stay in business, are they reputable, do they offer large enough bandwidth, the amount of downtime they experience or not and the list goes on and on and on and on. And, when you do arrive at the be all and end all of prefab websites, then you have to figure out all the plugins, shopping cards, merchant accounts, entering new products, creating new descriptions, uploading pictures (& hosting picture), and, there again, the list goes on and on and on. See a Yahoo store – so popular today and some of the best prefabs you can get - but it takes 1Choice 4 You – a whole company – to help you put it together properly so it all works as well as possible! Great looking stores – prefab – but, again, it chews up time like mad! Yes, it’s true – you can go to forums and blogs and get help – guess what??? More time is chewed up finding the good forums/blogs/etc. . . . .

And that time doesn’t include all the other things you need to do in order to give it your best shot at creating a viable business – business plans, product sourcing, capitalization, newsletters, customer service, etc. etc. etc.

You say, well, if you had a brick and mortar store, you’d have to do leasehold improvements too – maybe – and once done, it was done – not so with websites – you continually have to work on them and keep them fresh. Then you have to be connected to Twitter, Facebook, LindedIn – then you have webcasts, podcasts, webinars, etc. And you have to intergrate all the old fashioned stuff too into your business plan - and both kinds – traditional paper and untraditional online advertising and promotion!

We are so connected to the internet now and the industry is still so “unconnected”, the challenges for the average person are overwhelming not to mention trying to understand lingo and instructions that don’t work because they missed a few steps that “you, the customer, should have known”.

Lots of great people in the industry – great online help in some cases – but if they only could sit where I sit and so many other people are sitting, they would be amazed at the maze created by the internet and technology. It’s no wonder that many people just sparingly use the internet for find a phone number or get an answer to a question but to actually use the internet in any other way for most people is very, very difficult and time consuming.

For instance, if my blogging software company just made a “mall” type service as its business, it could be making a lot of money. A person shouldn’t have to know from the beginning that there are 2 different categories of – .com and .org and that each allow the user to do different things. Make it one company – one thing - then offer people options as people who choose to grow with the software can take advantage of.

Yes, the Support at has been terrific in answering questions but after 3 days I still have no idea what the transfer will take in order to do what I want to do. It should be seamless – what I want to do is so simple, it should be seamless and should really take no more than a few clicks to accomplish – it’s just a matter of adding an opt in box onto my blog – simple. Over 3 days of trying to get that done and I’m still nowhere! All I wanted was to put an opt in box on my blog from AWebber! That’s all – and all of this for just that!

So . . . small business people . . . be prepared for a long haul or throw money at it – and, then, again, you’ll have to make sure the money goes to the right people to do right things for what you want – in addition to just regular ‘getting into business’ processes. Prepare for one heck of a journey!

For those who use Firefox as their preffered Browser (that’s my case:)), here are some addons that I really recommend to improve their navigation on Internet:

- Do you have a Twitter account? For those who use this networking service, there is an addon called Echofon: “Echofon for Firefox is an extension that adds a tiny icon to the status bar. It notifies you when friends post tweets and has a text entry field for posting your own tweets.”

- FEBE: “allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up. It will actually rebuild your extensions individually into installable .xpi files. Now you can easily synchronize your office and home browsers.”

- For web developers, there is Firebug: “Firebug integrates with Firefox to put a wealth of web development tools at your fingertips while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page.”

- DownThemAll is a download manager: “It features an advanced accelerator that increases speed up to 400% and it allows you to pause and resume downloads at any time.”

- IE TAB: “Embedding Internet Explorer in tabs of Mozilla/Firefox… This is a great tool for web developers, since you can easily see how your web page displayed in IE with just one click and then switch back to Firefox.”

- Web2PDF: This addon allows you to convert any web page in a pdf document.

- You can also get the weather forecast for your region with Forecastfox.

Those are just few addons that I tested and I now use during my daily navigation in internet, but there are a lot of free and interesting addons which you can easily download and test whole over the internet.

Did you found some other interesting addons to Firefox? I’m sure you did, so… please share!

Following up on my article from yesterday, there is one add-on I’d like to promote that can really make PvP and PvE much easier and more fun. Power Auras Classic.

I don’t know why I haven’t mentioned this little addon before, because it has become one of the most essential addons in my game folder. Like Auctioneer or Arkinventory, I would find it difficult and not very fun to have to play WoW without it.

What it does is it prompts you to take action under certain conditons, particularly gaining a buff or debuff. Sometimes it can prompt you when certain conditions are not met, such as a class buff dropping off.

As an example, on my Warlock I use it in a couple different ways. First of all, I use it to prompt me when Fel Armor drops off. When it happens, I have it set up so that a green reticule bubbles around my character. I have similar effects set up for Water Shield on my Shaman and my Paladin’s buffs and auras.

The real beauty of this addon, however, is how useful it is at prompting me when I gain a certain effect or buff, such as Decimation when I am in Demonology spec, or Backdraft and Backlash when I am in Destruction. Blizzard doesn’t provide much of a prompt when these abilities proc.

Backlash has the same prompt as Nightfall, in the Affliction tree, which is to say not much of a prompt at all, especially in a noisy Wintergrasp battle. So what I’ve done is to set Powerauras to give me the louder, more distinctive raid prompt warning when Backlash procs along with a red, flashing reticule around my character.

There are probably innumerable other uses for this handy addon. I know I first heard about it from Big Red Kitty, who used it to notify him when Lock n’Load procced.
