As an Arsenal fan, me writing a blog on the derby a few weeks ago, I presume you’ll be predict

As an Arsenal fan, me writing a blog on the derby a few weeks ago, I presume you’ll be predicting I shall dedicating this blog to ‘how great Walcott (didn’t) played’ or ‘Van Persie’s stunning strike’ (which is a fine example of why he should be up for PFA player of the year – pretty much single handily carrying Arsenal through this season with that sensational left foot).
However no. I shall be devoting the next 20 or so minutes (or however long it takes to write this) to the fans; the singing and what was said, that I was immersed in for 105 minutes (those of you wondering: why the extra 15? 15 minutes for half time where yes, not only did what I’m about to talk about happen during the game but these people ceased to give me peace at half time and infinite to stand behind me! I came to the conclusion that had a bladder with the strength of a 4 and a half Rhinos.

Right firstly, for those of you that are unaware Arsenal played horrifically during the first 39 minutes until Bacary Sagna pulled a goal back in the 40th. During this time Theo Walcott Must have lost the ball more times than he trod on blades of grass! The fans were on his back. It was literally the worst performance I’ve ever seen, proving his 100 grand a week plus, worthy of scrutiny. The fans surrounding me heckled and jeered him throughout, acting as if he’d committed treason every time he took a bad touch or a hit a missed pass. However in the 65th minute Walcott finished off a fine move with a little chip over Friedal to make it 4-2. Suddenly he was the savour of mankind; the King of all men and the devoted legend of our historic, 125 year old club. This was exaggerated as his 2nd and Arsenal’s 5th went in: I admit i was in such a state of annoyance i actually didn’t want him to score despite it meaning we’d be 5-2 up against our biggest rivals. The reason behind my contrary feeling towards Walcott scoring compared to the rest of the stadium was fuelled by my fuming. My fuming at the fact that Theo Walcott wears the number 14. For those of you that don’t know (again), the number 14 is quite a significant one for Arsenal football club as it was worn by arguably Arsenal’s and possibly the Premiership’s most prolific, creative and unique player. Thierry Henry. No one could deny his magical feet; his awareness and his ability to find the goal in a variety of ways! The Walcott on the other hand, has none of this. Theo Walcott is very fast. Here the positivity ends. His lack of being able to read the game, dreadful control and unpredictable shooting puts him (in my opinion) safely on the bench for Norwich or even Newcastle at a push, NOT – as he is currently – a first team member and filling the boots of a real legend of one of the world’s oldest clubs and England’s 3rd most successful one.

Secondly, I went and paid for a ticket for this match not just for the amazing atmosphere and the high quality of level of football and footballers alike that were supposedly on show, but (yes i know slightly a bit weird but still, if you think about it still credible) for the pure fact there aren’t any commentators chatting utter nonsense over the top of your viewing. I hate commentators. It’s just a personal opinion but funnily enough i can see what’s going on without Gary Neville’s annoying, stuttering little accent talking about what i can already see! I mean i know i wear glasses but I’m not blind. Back to the (kind of, if you can call it one) story, i was sitting on the lower tier with a perfect view of the back of someone’s head as, for some reason, every one insisted on standing up for the whole game! This in itself annoyed me: why pay for a seat when you don’t sit in it? Then all of a sudden I hear: “Benayoun has been a good player for us this season, but he’s not been a sufficient replacement for Diaby. Arsenal need someone more permanent and of a higher level in that position. They also need a centre back! The best tactic for them at the moment would be to attack down the wings. Wing play is vital….”. My face dropped. I didn’t realise I’d ticked the box for ‘yes I’d like Andy Townsend’s prodigy to sit behind and speak ‘shart’ into my ear the whole game! I looked behind me and not only was he seemingly trying out for the next Sky Sports commentator position, in preparation for when the current one swears on air, or eyes up the women in the Sky office a bit perversely, but he was also wearing running trainers and jeans. The British version of the German socks and sandals. He was 16. Who was this guy?

My 3rd and possibly last point brings me onto singing. Why do fans insist that if a fans of a team don’t sing, they aren’t good supporters? Surely paying 30-40 quid, travelling 60-odd miles on two different forms of transport, paying 5 quid for a drink and another 5 for a burger (yes the Emirates food prices are RIDICULOUS), is surely enough support? Why should i have to warm up my vocal chords in the mirror that morning with a two-part harmony with myself and Kings of Leon blaring out my docking station, then proceed to the ground where thousands of other Kalebs have gathered to synchronously sing verses of “Red Army” and “can you hear the Tottenham sing? We can’t hear a fucking thing” (pardon my Dutch)? Also the hypocrisy that flows through songs of a football fan! When Emmanuel Adebayor was at Arsenal, in my opinion, he had great prospects, and no sooner when he left it made no difference to my belief in him, soon, becoming a fairly decent player. My opinion has not changed, even after his 60 yard celebration a few years back. Of course, while he was at Arsenal they sang his praises, they cheered his every touch. He puts on a white jersey instead of a red one and suddenly he is the main target for above average racist comments, booing and hatred. I’m sorry but that is dreadful behaviour from supposed businessmen and professions alike. Maturity is often placed in the semantic field as teenagers or ‘youths’. This however, breaches the stereotypes and offers up a new life of branding – The Football Fan.

To all you that care, i went to the Man United vs Arsenal game also earlier last month. I enjoyed that way much more. I got to rest my legs for one.

Thank you for reading. I’m amazed you haven’t stopped yet

Alas, when will politics and terror stay out of sport? Last year the Sri Lankan cricket team bus was attacked and now, this sickening issue has reared its ugly head again. The Togo team bus was attacked by gunmen in Angola on Friday. .

The bus was attacked by armed separatists, who fired machine guns at the bus as it entered Cabinda from neighbouring Congo – where the Togo national team had been training for the African Cup of Nations 2010.

The casualties include, the death of the bus driver, and several passengers have been injured, including 2 players: Serge Akakpo (22) who plays with Romania’s FC Vaslui, and Kodjovi Obilale (25), a goalkeeper for amateur French side GSI Pontivy. A team doctor and another unidentified member of Togolese staff are thought to be among those injured.

Manchester City star Emmanuel Adebayor has declared that his team should withdraw from the tournament.

He said to the BBC, “I think a lot of players want to leave, I don’t think they want to be at this tournament any more because they have seen their death already.

“Most of the players want to go back to their family. No-one can sleep after what they have seen. They have seen one of their team-mates have a bullet in his body, who is crying, who is losing consciousness and everything.

“So we will have a good meeting, everyone will go to their room, they will rest and we will see. We will make a decision which is good for our life.”

Grenoble midfielder Alaixys Romao told The Guardian: “We’re not thinking yet of what could happen. But it’s true that no one wants to play.

“We’re not capable of it. We’re thinking first of all about the health of our injured because there was a lot of blood on the ground. For the moment there is not much news because they have been taken to different hospitals.”

Thomas Dossevi, a veteran with French side Nantes, told RMC radio, “I’m fine but the players are in bad shape. It’s madness. We’re in the hospital in the north of Cabinda. We were shot at like dogs.

“They were hooded and armed to the teeth. We spent 20 minutes stuck under the seats of the bus. There was security but there wasn’t enough.”

With the African Cup of Nations due to kick off tomorrow (Sunday), a crisis meeting was held , and the CAF vice-president would travel to the area to carry out further investigations. But as it stands, the tournament will go ahead, but there’s still no word on whether the 7 matches scheduled to be held in Cabinda will be moved elsewhere.

FIFA has released a statement: “FIFA and it’s president, Joseph S. Blatter, are deeply moved by today’s incidents which affected Togo’s national team, to whom they express their utmost sympathy.

“Fifa is in touch with the African confederation and it’s president, Issa Hayatou, from which it expects a full report on the situation.”

Togo have withdrawn from the African Cup of Nations after gunmen opened fire on a bus carrying the team to Angola for their opening match.

The entire squad, including captain Emmanuel Adebayor (pictured), were under fire for at least 30 minutes, resulting in the death of the bus driver and wounding at least nine people. The death toll has since risen to three, an assistant coach and a press officer have succumbed to their injuries.

It has been said that the Rebels responsible for the attack targeted the wrong bus, they concentrated on the bus carrying the teams luggage, thankfully limiting the amount of victims.

The buses were travelling in a convoy from Congo and was six miles across the border in Angola when they came under machine gun fire. An Angolan bus driver died during the 30-minute ambush. Defender Serge Akapo and backup goalkeeper Obilale Kossi were among those hurt. The wounded were taken to a hospital in Cabinda.

Adebayor, who also plays for Portsmouth told the BBC ” If the security is not sure the we will be leaving tomorrow. I don’t think they will be ready to give their life. Most of the players want to go back to their family. No one can sleep after what they have seen today. They have seen one of their teammates have a bullet in his body, who is crying, who is losing conciousness and everything”

Midfielder Richmond Forson commented: “Its disgusting to take bullets for a football match.”

Nantes striker Thomas Dossevi told Radio Monte Carlo: “We were machine-gunned like dogs. They were armed to the teeth. We spent 20 minutes underneath the seats of the bus.”

Dossevi told Infosport television in France “We were surrounded by police buses. Everything looked fine and we came under heavy fire. Everyone scrambled under the seats trying to protect themselves. It lasted at least a quarter of an hour with the police responding.”

Portugal’s state-run Lusa news agency said it received a communication from the region’s main seperatist group, FLEC, claiming to have carried out the attack.

Togo are due to play their first match against Ghana on Monday although the team want to leave Angola and pull out of the tournament all together.

English teams including Manchester City, Aston Villa, Portsmouth, Chelsea (Drogba, Kalou, Essien) have all expressed their concern to the Football Association stating they want their players pulled from the tournament.

Emmanuel Adebayor and other team members speak to BBC News

This is NOT a good look for the Word Cup in South Africa this summer…..

*UPDATE* The Angolan Governement have said the team will remain in the competition after calling the attack an ‘isolated’ incident and ensuring maximum security is in place for all teams taking place…
