SYC definitely can’t be run with only 3 admins anymore~ For this 1 year we’ve been trying hard to survive with only 3 of us, but our jobs have increasingly taken our time :’(

Anyways, here’s there names, and my takes on them:

Socom1880- Well, he seems like a nice guy. I don’t remember him from last year, but he sounds strict and lays down the law.

In simple one line sshdfilter is an application that will help you block the ssh attacks. Its a good little application easy to configure. I and my colleagues had already written the complete steps to install and configure the sshdfilter at the following URL:- SSHDFilter. Please go through the article and let us know if there is something you would like to add or would like to know.

we had this little app installed on our company’s internal servers and found it quite good. But honestly speaking, I would suggest if you want a good security for your server, i would also suggest the same common apps that most webhost guys suggest and sshdfilter is not one of them, The first thing is the Firewall and i recommend APF (Advanced Policy Firewall) it uses iptables internally, but is a handy app for any sysadmin.

The second and a very important recommended app is the BFD (Brute Force Detection) It Detects and blocks brute force attacks.

Then a comes a very common tool that would be even recommended for your Desktop PCs is the Anti-Virus, for Linux servers the recommended one is ClamAV Anti-Virus which also has the feature of e-mail scanning you can refer the folowing URL:- Installing ClamAV with MailScanner

A common tool for sysadmins is the spamassassin, because managing user mails is a very important thing for any sysadmin, you can loose on that, and yes users do get get irritated and furious when they start receiving spam mails, So please take good steps to stop the spam, also let me know if you have some new suggesstions for blocking spam.

This page i found from liquidweb.com the Data Center where we have hosted our company’s server, and honestly i would say they are one of the best web hosting companies. We have our 4-5 servers hosted with them and we have not faced any much issues, and also whenever we posted tickets for our queries our help for customization on server, their tech support team has been really helpful, Yes their tech support is great. And guys I don’t work for liquidweb nor do i get paid for promoting liquidweb, But Yes I have been Dealing with the Tech Support guys from Liquidweb, since we purchased servers from them, and they are excellent, Thats the main thing any person would want that the guys at his webhost provider or at the Data Center should be technically good, As a sysadmin i have been through many of the web host providers and Data Centers, but i really found liquidweb best. Now i am not gonna write much, you may think, i am blabbing.

All i would say is if you know any other webhost providers which you feel are good and the main thing, they have a good tech support team, please let us know, post their names in the comment, i know there are lot of sysadmins still struggling with their web host providers for some good service, and they cannot shift or move because either they don’t know where exactly to look for or their company management would just not allow to shift (it happens, the management is very sensitive to downtimes).

Hey sysadmins out there please do post any good web host providers you know, and help the other sysadmins, also i was referred to liquidweb from a sysadmin at a finance firm, whom i didn’t even know, but came in contact with him through the Outsourced Developers at our company who were outsourced to the finance firm.

Le principe était simplissime : les gens postaient des photos d’eux version moches-pas-beaux-tous-laids et tout le monde se moquaient d’eux (gentiment, soyons clairs !) Des castes furent créées, des concours également, et la vie s’écoulait paisiblement au pays des Tronchomates.
Mais ce qui devait arriver arriva, et Yohann devint un homme overbooké… Le temps lui manquait pour mener à bien cette mission d’administrateur en chef dudit site. Lequel tomba bientôt dans l’oubli… (ou presque, c’est bon, pas la peine de se vexer…) La désolation était telle que Yohann pensa même, un temps, tout arrêter et s’exiler, tel un vieil ermite, dans un monde lointain. Après quelques temps de déprime intense (oui, ok, j’exagère un peu, là…), notre héros se releva et son caractère de battant repris le dessus ! Il se mit en quête d’un sauveur ! Quelqu’un qui pourrait reprendre à temps plein l’administration du Tronchomatic ! Et là, TADAAAA !! , telle une chevalière servante (?!), je suis arrivée, sur mon blanc destrier !

Du coup, voilà, je me présente
