Looks fun and addictive, right? Yeah, just like a real video-game, that’s distributed at retai

Looks fun and addictive, right? Yeah, just like a real video-game, that’s distributed at retail stores or an online video game shop, like Steam.

But it still doesn’t look that complicated, to be impossible to make in Flash!

In fact, some of the indie game makers actually started their career with Flash. Take Edmund McMillen and his Meatboy series for instance. The first part came to internet as a free flash game with the name Meatboy, the second part was an extra map pack, and now he is releasing a brand new Meatboy game for Steam. Guess what? It’s also made in flash.

So, what makes a good indie game, worth to spend your money on?

First of all, it has to be original, not just another asteroid clone. Or, it could be an asteroid clone, but with an unique twist, that noone has ever seen before… like Shift, a platformer that gives the player an ability to turn the screen upside down and play the level like you’ve never seen it before.

Secondly, it has to be addictive! It needs to have something, to make the player get lots and lots of adrenaline, and keep playing the game.

Thirdly, it doesn’t have to be annoying, or plain stupid, that would make the user curse and throw knives at people.

Or does it? It’s up to you to decide. Experiment with the gameplay, graphics and everything else (if you’re a game developer) and eventually you’ll come up with something interesting and fun.

That’s all for now!

I’ve heard some people talking about if CS5 supports Actionscript 2, and should they upgrade i

I’ve heard some people talking about if CS5 supports Actionscript 2, and should they upgrade if they are used to AS2.

What would be the point? All the new features Adobe is adding to Flash are only for AS3, here, let me explain:
There are 3 languages at the moment used in flash – AS, AS2 and AS3.

AS and AS2 are not too different, and they run on AVM (Actionscript virtual machine). What does that mean? That means that the technique flash uses to show the movie when it’s played is the same Actionscript 1 & 2.

AS3 runs on AVM2 (sometimes AVM+) that uses a complete different way to show us the file, and also supports such features like bones, 3d rotation, physics (CS5) and more.

So, if you’re used to AS2 – don’t bother upgrading to CS5, unless you are going to learn Actionscript 3.

How to Rip TM Dynamic Flash Templates What you need: Sample dynamic flash template from website Soth

How to Rip TM Dynamic Flash Templates

What you need:

Sample dynamic flash template from website
Sothink SWF Decompiler
Adobe Flash

1. browse or search your favorite dynamic flash template in website. If you got one… click the “view” link and new window will open with dynamic flash.. loading…

2. If the movie fully loaded, click View -> Source in your browser to bring the source code of the current page and in the source code, search for “IFRAME” and you will see the iframe page. In this example were going to try the 7045 dynamic template. get the URL(ex.
http://images.templatemonster.com/screenshots/7000/7045.html) then paste it to your browser… easy eh? wait! dont be to excited… erase the .html and change it to swf then press enter then you’ll see the flash movie again icon_smile.gif.

3. copy the URL and download that SWF file.. use your favorite download manager.. mine I used flashget icon_smile.gif NOTE: dont close the browser we may need that later on.

4. open your Sothink SWF decompiler… click “Quick Open” then browse where you download your SWF/movie file. Click Export FLA to export your SWF to FLA, in short, save it as FLA icon_smile.gif

5. Open your Macromedia FLash and open the saved FLA file. press Control+Enter or publish the file… then wallah! the output window will come up with “Error opening URL blah blah blah…” dont panic, that error will help you where to get the remaining files.

6. Copy the first error, example: “7045_main.html” then go back to your browser and replace the 7045.swf to 7045_main.html press enter and you’ll see a lot of text… nonsense text icon_lol.gif that text are your contents…

NOTE: when you save the remaining files dont forget to save with underscore sign (_) in the front on the file without the TM item number (e.g. 7045) if it is html save it as “_main.html” and same with the image save it as “_works1.jpg” save them where you save the FLA and SWF files. Continue browsing the file inside Flash application so you can track the remaining files… do the same until you finish downloading all the remaining the files.

Enjoy !!

Alternativa3D – probably the most powerful 3d engine in flash, created by russian programmers, which is still in development. However, it won’t be free.

Here’s a rather interesting article I came by.
So, Adobe Flash or Microsoft Silverlight?

The article gives a few technical differencies for Flash and Silverlight, however, I found the programming feature the most interesting.

The scripting language of Flash is Actionscript, that comes with ‘huge, powerful class library for developing online browser-hosted applications and stand-alone desktop applications’.
It can interract with other data bases and languages like JS, XML, PHP, ASP and others.

Completely different with Silverlight. There you can choose from among a number of languages such as Visual C#.Net and Visual Basic.Net, including client-side scripting with JavaScript. C# and VB.NET can be used to write managed code that runs on and uses all of the enhancements and capabilities of Microsoft’s .NET framework.

Why is that important? Firstly, most of programmers are already used to C based scripting, when AS is a completely unique language used only in Flash (although it is based on C, it’s still different), secondly, in my opinion the languages Silverlight uses are more powerful, and programmers can make things that they have always wanted to do in flash. Who knows, maybe one day we will see Halo played from a browser.

However, at the moment Silverlight has alot of cons. For example, it doesn’t compress it’s export files, it only (fully) supports JPG and PNG image formats, it doesn’t work on all OS, and more.

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/neversfelde/ppa/ubuntu karmic main

Enter

sudo apt-key adv –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com –recv-keys 0331274D

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install minitube

There is bug in adobe flash player the #added to the window title in IE Steps to reproduce: Step 1:

There is bug in adobe flash player the #added to the window title in IE
Steps to reproduce:
Step 1: Run the url in your IE Browser www.adobe.com/#bug

Observe that Adobe#bug is appended to the window title
if you click once on flash observe that #bug is appended to the window title

This may be related to flash being dynamically inserted into the page, I don’t know, but it’s quite annoying; if you insert several flash movies into a page, or reset the flash movie a few times, the hash is appended several times, or it over-writes the title entirely. like Adobe#bug or #bug

Solution:
———
I observed that the #data is append to the window title when flash movie is loading and when we click on flash movie the #data is overites the window title.

How can we solved this bug?
we can solve this by using javascript or action scripting.

Javcascript : By using setTimer we can set the title every time

Action Script: call a javascript method from action script when mouseevent is triggered.(i.e MOUSE_UP Event).Please see the following code u will get an idea.

addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, function ():void {
ExternalInterface.call(’setTitle’);
});

function setTitle(){
document.title = “BugFixed”;
}

This book is for developers who are building Flash MX 2004 or Flash MX Professional 2004 applications and want to use components to speed development. You should already be familiar with developing applications in Flash and writing ActionScript.

If you are less experienced with writing ActionScript, you can add components to a document, set their parameters in the Property inspector or Component inspector, and use the Behaviors panel to handle their events. For example, you could attach a Go To Web Page behavior to a Button component that opens a URL in a web browser when the button is clicked without writing any ActionScript code.

If you are a programmer who wants to create more robust applications, you can create components dynamically, use ActionScript to set properties and call methods at runtime, and use the listener event model to handle events.
