I am publishing this post today, in hopes that the reader may find it interesting enough to actually try the links... BTW this here might relate to the silverlight 4 thingy as well! ]

I am yet to sift through all the Adobe MAX 2009 videos.

I find it really generous of Adobe to put all of these up. Even if most of it is marketing, they still share a few gems of information. Really worthwhile for guys like me, who end up being so busy there’s little hope of attending an actual MAX event unless planned at least six months ahead of time.

To me the most important ones are the support for USB (mass storage devices) and native apps (so you can now open a word document from within AIR). I am still a bit skep about the performance, but, I am sure this is going to improve over the new version too…

Current TV is a US based independent media company, led by former US Vice President Al Gore and Joel Hyatt.  One of the features of the channel is that it enables viewers to participate.  With viewers and users able to post podcasts, video responses, comments and rate shows and programmes on the network.  

Current TV makes good use of the multimedia tools available, utilizing Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, itunes, iGoogle, WordPress and coming soon to Adobe Media Player.  It would be great if they had a bureau down here in New Zealand, we really need a network to engage with younger viewers and net users down here.  Keep up the good work Current & Vanguard.

3. Desktop iPhone

Đây là ứng dụng dành cho “thần dân” của YouTube, ứng dụng liệt kê một danh sách đầy đủ các đoạn video trên YouTube, giúp bạn tìm kiếm các video trên YouTube rất dễ dàng thông qua ứng dụng này. Ngoài ra, nếu bạn có tài khoản trên YouTube, bạn có thể upload video trực tiếp lên YouTube mà không cần vào website. DeskTube còn hỗ trợ bạn chia sẻ video thông qua Facebook và Twitter.

Adobe (s ADBE) will discontinue content syndication through its Adobe Media Player (AMP) in June, the company told us at the NAB Show in Las Vegas this week. The move comes alongside Adobe’s freshly announced push for an industry-standard open media player framework called Strobe. AMP’s content licensing and audience building tasks were out of character for Adobe, and ultimately the company decided the player was not a strategic priority.

AMP, which launched just over a year ago, offered content from MTV (s VIA.B) , CBS (s CBS), Showtime, Sony (s SNE) and many independent creators, and enabled users to add further content from RSS feeds.

The player offered content owners the opportunity to piggyback onto Adobe’s software distribution, which obviously has enormous reach. Adobe wouldn’t disclose AMP download numbers, except to say they were not small. We’d heard anecdotally from major content publishers featured in AMP that it actually was one of their top web video distribution points. But that was last year; when we checked today CBS and Showtime content had already been taken down. Update: Adobe says the content is still up; it must have been a glitch.

AMP sans content catalog will continue to be available past June. It will only feature content from Adobe TV, the company’s instructional video library. Users can continue to load it up with content from RSS feeds.

While AMP is a desktop AIR app, and Strobe will be for the web (at least to start), former AMP product manager Ashley Still told us some of the impetus for Strobe came out of the challenges and issues Adobe faced when it built its own player, leading to the realization that most everyone building players is in a similar position.

Adobe plans to release the first production-ready version of Strobe this fall, which should enable content publishers to launch players with adaptive streaming, DVR functionality, ad orchestration and measurement — or take elements of the package to use on their own. Strobe partners include Akamai (s akam) (which already has its own Open Video Player initiative), Adobe and Omniture.

A few weeks ago, ON Networks announced that they were launching Smart Girls at the Party, a new digital series actor/comedian Amy Poehler created with friends Meredith Walker, former senior producer for Nickelodeon’s Nick News, head of talent for Saturday Night Live, and Amy Miles, recording artist and performer, host of PBS children’s show LOMAX: Hound of Music. The original release date–sometime in October–has now been pushed forward to mid-November due to the fact that Poehler is about to give birth.

Serendipitous for a show that celebrates young girls, with the aim of helping them find confidence in their aspirations and talents. In each episode, Amy interviews a girl with a unique talent, community interest or point of view. In their interviews, girls offer witty truths and demonstrate ways that girls can make a difference in the world.

MobilizedTV sat down with Meredith Walker and On Networks’ co-founder/chief content officer Jen Grogono to talk about the series.

MOBILIZEDTV: How did you and Amy come up with the idea for this series?

MEREDITH: Amy and I are best friends and one of the things we bond about is talking about our younger years. We found with our friends how hard those ages are between 9 and 13, when you’re starting to morph to fit in or not. Those are such important years to feel heard and sometimes that’s not around. We thought, wouldn’t it be great to offer up anything we learned from that and help anyone we could? Wait, that could be a show! We read studies about that age group, and we talked about what helped us the most, which was when older girls cared about what we thought and asked us questions about ourselves. We knew then that’s what we wanted to do: to converse without talking down. to have a real conversations with real girls.

MOBILIZEDTV: What’s the format of the show?

MEREDITH: The show is various lengths between 5 and 10 minutes. It’s like a Charlie Rose show but not as serious. We talk to interesting girls so there’s a level of fun. I’m the producer so I’m off-camera, but occasionally I’m on.

MOBILIZEDTV: How did you “cast” this show?

MEREDITH: Once we put the word out, people came to us. The first season was shot in New York, and we’re producing this in various cities.

MOBILIZEDTV: Jen, what’s the distribution model?

JEN: We intend to put the show across the three-screen network, the AllScreen syndication network on TV, computer and mobile. The reason is quite simply that there is significant audience on new digital platforms, particularly with the younger audiences and even the parents.

MOBILIZEDTV: How did you produce for three very different screens?

JEN: We shoot it all in HD. That’s important. You want to make sure that it looks just as good on a 52-inch plasma as a 3-inch cell phone. We also made sure the pacing and tempo is reflective of the audience’s viewing habits. You want that common denominator: the person who doesn’t have a whole lot of time to sit and watch but will make time for what they’re passionate about. If you have the right pace and tempo and the program is compelling, they’ll be interested in a 2-minute piece up to 30-minutes or longer. We probably will create longer versions of this. Meredith has great ideas for season 2 to experiment with the platform, genre and format.

MOBILIZEDTV: Who are your mobile partners for the series?

JEN: We’re talking to a number of mobile providers now. Apple iPhones obviously, BuzzWire, Verizon, AT&T, and iTunes are our biggest. We have a number of other mobile companies we’re in discussion with, both on deck and off deck.

MEREDITH- I think mobile is very important. It’s so new and I feel that’s where our audience will be watching it. It’s the device they have with them all the time. -They’re always texting. So that’s where they’re going to be. That and the PC of course.

With regard to TV, right now the series is on Apple TV, Tivo, Time Warner (the San Antonio market for VOD), Verizon FiOS, and AT&T U-Verse. We’re still in a number of discussions.

MOBILIZEDTV: What’s the business model? How will you monetize it?

JEN: It is a sponsorship model. We’re talking to select brands, not dissimilar from 1950s TV. We’re holding out for the right sponsor. It’s unlikely you’ll see a diet pill.

In yet another sign of the online video times, Joost today announced it would do Flash, Web-based streaming online at joost.com rather than relying on the proprietary, P2P client it launched back in early 2007.

My take: this is the right thing for Joost to do to match the friction-free experience sites like Fancast.com, Hulu.com, and nearly everywhere else is able to provide. Requiring that people download and run a separate application (not just a plug-in, as ABC.com requires) just isn’t consistent with the ease that online video has come to offer. Sure, it made sense in early 2007 when most top content wasn’t available online anyway. But that all ended when Hulu launched.

Furthermore: the days of the proprietary video player are gone. Sorry to Miro, Vuze, and the original Veoh player. There’s no need for a dedicated video aggregation application. the only chance for such a player is in the download for offline play world, which is where iTunes sits.

Adobe Media Player, a player designed to allow the downloading of streaming video for offline playback, is going to struggle in the balance for a while as people so excited about streaming don’t see the need for it yet. One of two things has to happen there: either people will eventually see value in offline playback, or wireless broadband will become so ubiquitous that we’ll never need untethered video playback. All depends on how fast Adobe can move the ball forward and convince big content providers to release their content for secure offline playback.

Pro produkty Adobe existuje obrovské množství online školicích materiálů od různých autorů. Jejich kvalita je velice různorodá a na tomto webu bych chtěl občas odkázat na ty, které považuji v některém směru za vyjímečné.

Dnes jsem si vybral Dr. Russella Browna. Dr. Brown začal pracovat v Adobe Systems v dubnu 1985 jako Art Director. Během let se stal jedním z nejznámějších specialistů na Adobe Photoshop. Styl prezentací Dr. Browna je velmi neobvyklý a velice zábavný.

Občas také vytváří různá zajímavá videa – určitě se podívejte třeba na krátké video z roku 2005 – Adobe Man (Pozor: video je v formátu Quicktime, takže musíte mít QuickTime nebo jiný přehrávač, který umí tento formát.)

Pokud jste klepli na předchozí odkaz, viděli jste, že Russell Brown se nechová příliš jako Dr. Přesto nebo možná i proto jsou jeho tutoriály jedny z nejlepších, co znám a přináší hodně velmi zajímavých konceptů a nápadů, jak Photohop využívat.

V současné době existují dvě základní série jeho tutoriálů. První se jmenuje The Russell Brown Show a můžete si ji stahovat prostřednictvím iTunes jako podcast. Také se na něj můžete podívat na stránkách Adobe TV. Třetí možností je stáhnout si Adobe Media Player a přihlásit si show na stahování do něj.

Druhá série se jmenuje Dr. Brown’ Photoshop Laboratory. Opět ji můžete najít na stránkách Adobe TV, případně přihlásit prostřednictvím Adobe Media Playeru v sekci Adobe TV.

Podívejte se na jeden příklad z Dr. Brown’s Photoshop Laboratory. Tento tutoriál je o pokročilých postupech při spojování více fotografií do jedné. Pozor video trvá asi 20 minut.

V současné době pracujeme na několika projektech týkajících se online distribuce videa. Při jednáních a diskuzích stále narážím na velmi různorodé názory týkající se ochrany obsahu, metod distribuce, crossplatformovosti a dalších aspektů. V tomto článku se pokusím nněkteré koncepty vysvětlit a možná si i trochu ujednotit vlastní pohled na celou problematiku.

Flash jako přehrávač videa v současné době dominuje distribuci videa na internetu. 73% veškerého videa online je distribuováno pomocí Flashe. Flash má k dispozici přes 98% lidí s počítačem připojeným k internetu.

Využití Flash videa online k červnu 2008

Video ve Flashi je nejčastěji distribuováno dvěma metodami:

1. Progressive download

Video se postupně stahuje na počítač diváka a během stahování se po určité době začne přehrávat. Tento způsob využívá například YouTube. Výhodou je jednoduchost, snadná implementace, z uživatelského hlediska je poměrně komfortní zvláště pro krátké videospoty.

Nevýhodou je prakticky neexistující zabezpečení. Video soubor po stažení skončí v cachi diváka a ten jej může relativně snadno získat. To může být problém a nemusí – záleží na distribuovaném obsahu, autorských právech a obchodním modelu poskytovatele.

Dalšími nevýhodami jsou pomalejší spuštění videa, méně komfortní ovládání obsahu (možnost přeskočit o určitý úsek), horší možnost přizpůsobení se kvalitě připojení. Také může tento způsob vytvářet větší zátěž na množství přenesených dat poskytovatele, protože si každý uživatel při této metodě stahuje obvykle více dat, než skutečně shlédne.

2. Streaming

U streamingu se vytvoří trvalé spojení mezi počítačem diváka a streaming serverem a video posílá do přehrávače diváka průběžně při jeho sledování.

Při této metodě je možná podstatně lepší interakce mezi poskytovatelem a příjemcem – je možné na základě kvality připojení poslat stream vhodné velikosti, kontrolovat kvalitu spojení a využívat další možnosti dané vytvořeným obousměrným spojením mezi divákem a poskytovatelem.

Metoda distribuce pomocí streamu je bezpečnější, protože se data neukládají na počítači příjemce do cache a Flash Media Server umožňuje navíc celý stream zakódovat pomocí protokolu RTMPE.

U streamingu existuje ještě jedna zajímavá metoda zabezpečení obsahu, která přišla s uvedením Flash Media Serveru v 3. Flash video se na webu pouští uvnitř přehrávače, který je vytvořený pomocí technologie Flash a je integrovaný do webové stránky. FMS si umí zkontrolovat, jestli o daný stream žádá předem autorizovaný přehrávač. To znamená, že si poskytovtel obsahu může určit, že daný obsah půjde přehrávat pouze ve Flash přehrávači, který má vizuální podobu odpovídající jeho značce/brandu (typicky televizní stanice) nebo, který má třeba integrovanou nějakou reklamu.

Obousměrná komunikace při streamingu pomocí FMS přináší ještě řadu dalších možností. Je možné přenášet informace zpět od uživatele k serveru (včetně audia a videa) a vytvářt tak podstatně interaktivnější mediální projekty včetně například videokonferenčních systémů nebo chatů.

DRM pomocí Flash Media Rights Management Serveru (dále jen FMRMS)

DRM je něco, co vyvolává hodně negativních reakcí, protože v principu omezuje diváka nebo posluchače a zmemožňuje mu provádět některé činnosti s obsahem, který má k dispozici.

Faktem ale je, že velká většina obsahu je chráněným autorským dílem a je právem majitele autorských oráv určovat, jak je možné s jeho dílem nakládat (stejně tak je právem příjemce rozhodnout se, jestli za takových okolností bude ochoten dílo autora přijmout).

FMRMS umožňuje volit autorovi nebo distributorovi formu zabezpečení obsahu, kterou považuje za vhodnou a dává mu poměrně velkou volnost v nastavení způsobu a úrovně zabezpečení. FMRMS zakóduje audio nebo video soubor a nastaví pravidla, za jakých okolností a s jakými omezeními je možné s těmito soubory pracovat.

Obsah chráněný pomocí FMRMS je možné přehrávat pomocí Adobe AIR aplikace nebo pomocí Adobe Media Playeru. Poskytovatel může pomocí AIR technologie vytvořit vlastní aplikaci, který využívá metodiku zabezpečení FMRMS. Alternativně může využít bezplatně šířený Adobe Media Player. Využití AIR (pomocí které je vyvinut i Media player) umožňuje meziplatformní řešení – v současné době Windows a Mac a velmi brzy i Linux.

Autor může určit, kdo může sledovat obsah, od kdy a do kdy jej může sledovat.Může se rozhodnout a použít i hybridní metody – uživatel má obsah k dispozici zdarma s dynamicky vkládanou reklamou a pokud má zájem, může si zaplatit za odstranění reklamy.
