PDF Pirate

Andate su PDF Pirate e caricate il file PDF da decodificare facendo click su Sfoglia;

Aspettate che il file venga decriptato;

Fate click su Download.

Fatto! Al prossimo articolo, ciao…

When Search WordPress.com, I noticed a article PDF Tools, it introduces some small PDF tools and al

When Search WordPress.com, I noticed a article PDF Tools, it introduces some small PDF tools and all developed in Python.

pdf-parser.py

This tool will parse a PDF document to identify the fundamental elements used in the analyzed file. It will not render a PDF document. The code of the parser is quick-and-dirty, I’m not recommending this as text book case for PDF parsers, but it gets the job done.

You can see the parser in action in this screencast.

The stats option display statistics of the objects found in the PDF document. Use this to identify PDF documents with unusual/unexpected objects, or to classify PDF documents. For example, I generated statistics for 2 malicious PDF files, and although they were very different in content and size, the statistics were identical, proving that they used the same attack vector and shared the same origin.

The search option searches for a string in indirect objects (not inside the stream of indirect objects). The search is not case-sensitive, and is susceptible to the obfuscation techniques I documented (as I’ve yet to encounter these obfuscation techniques in the wild, I decided no to resort to canonicalization).

filter option applies the filter(s) to the stream. For the moment, only FlateDecode is supported (e.g. zlib decompression).

The raw option makes pdf-parser output raw data (e.g. not the printable Python representation).

objects outputs the data of the indirect object which ID was specified. This ID is not version dependent. If more than one object have the same ID (disregarding the version), all these objects will be outputted.

reference allows you to select all objects referencing the specified indirect object. This ID is not version dependent.

type alows you to select all objects of a given type. The type is a Name and as such is case-sensitive and must start with a slash-character (/).

make-pdf tools
make-pdf-javascript.py allows one to create a simple PDF document with embedded JavaScript that will execute upon opening of the PDF document. It’s essentially glue-code for the mPDF.py module which contains a class with methods to create headers, indirect objects, stream objects, trailers and XREFs.

If you execute it without options, it will generate a PDF document with JavaScript to display a message box (calling app.alert).

To provide your own JavaScript, use option –javascript for a script on the command line, or –javascriptfile for a script contained in a file.

pdfid.py
This tool is not a PDF parser, but it will scan a file to look for certain PDF keywords, allowing you to identify PDF documents that contain (for example) JavaScript or execute an action when opened. PDFiD will also handle name obfuscation.

The idea is to use this tool first to triage PDF documents, and then analyze the suspicious ones with my pdf-parser.

An important design criterium for this program is simplicity. Parsing a PDF document completely requires a very complex program, and hence it is bound to contain many (security) bugs. To avoid the risk of getting exploited, I decided to keep this program very simple (it is even simpler than pdf-parser.py).

PDFiD will scan a PDF document for a given list of strings and count the occurrences (total and obfuscated) of each word:

obj

endobj

stream

endstream

xref

trailer

startxref

/Page

/Encrypt

/ObjStm

/JS

/JavaScript

/AA

/OpenAction

/JBIG2Decode

Almost every PDF documents will contain the first 7 words (obj through startxref), and to a lesser extent stream and endstream. I’ve found a couple of PDF documents without xref or trailer, but these are rare (BTW, this is not an indication of a malicious PDF document).

/Page gives an indication of the number of pages in the PDF document. Most malicious PDF document have only one page.

/Encrypt indicates that the PDF document has DRM or needs a password to be read.

/ObjStm counts the number of object streams. An object stream is a stream object that can contain other objects, and can therefor be used to obfuscate objects (by using different filters).

/JS and /JavaScript indicate that the PDF document contains JavaScript. Almost all malicious PDF documents that I’ve found in the wild contain JavaScript (to exploit a JavaScript vulnerability and/or to execute a heap spray). Of course, you can also find JavaScript in PDF documents without malicious intend.

/AA and /OpenAction indicate an automatic action to be performed when the page/document is viewed. All malicious PDF documents with JavaScript I’ve seen in the wild had an automatic action to launch the JavaScript without user interaction.

The combination of automatic action and JavaScript makes a PDF document very suspicious.

/JBIG2Decode indicates if the PDF document uses JBIG2 compression. This is not necessarily and indication of a malicious PDF document, but requires further investigation.

A number that appears between parentheses after the counter represents the number of obfuscated occurrences. For example, /JBIG2Decode 1(1) tells you that the PDF document contains the name /JBIG2Decode and that it was obfuscated (using hexcodes, e.g. /JBIG#32Decode).

BTW, all the counters can be skewed if the PDF document is saved with incremental updates.

Because PDFiD is just a string scanner (supporting name obfuscation), it will also generate false positives. For example, a simple text file starting with %PDF-1.1 and containing words from the list will also be identified as a PDF document.

Whether you want to fine-tune and debug your existing PDF documents or explore the full potential the format offers, PDF Hacks will turn you into a PDF power user.

About the Author
For over five years, Sid Steward has analyzed, extended, secured, cracked, authored, converted, embellished and consumed PDF. He maintained and created custom software for Thomson Financial’s Investext and then EBSCO. He then worked with SoftLock (d/b/a Digital Goods) to create their proprietary PDF security model and integrate it with their larger digital rights system. This project required pushing the envelope of Acrobat API programming. At the same time, he had been privately working on a semi-automated PDF to HTML conversion workflow. This toolset became the core of his PDF conversion service bureau: Boundless Books, Inc., d/b/a AccessPDF. He also performs PDF “finishing” which includes optimizing PDF file size and adding navigation features.

You are working hard to achieve that perfect paperless office but there are some things that still r

You are working hard to achieve that perfect paperless office but there are some things that still require paperwork. For instance, you just received a contract via electronic fax that you are supposed to sign and fax it back. Or there’s a PDF / Word document waiting in your email inbox that you need to print on paper, put your handwritten signatures, scan the signed copy and send it back to the client again via email.

That process is both time consuming and forces you to do something that you are trying so hard to avoid (i.e., use paper). So if you are looking to eliminate paper from the loop, here are some software tools, web services and workarounds that will help you capture your signature directly on the electronic file without requiring paper or ink.

How to Digitally Sign Documents

The first step is to create a digital image of your signature – there are multiple ways of doing that:

Option #1. If you have an iPhone, iPod Touch or any touch sensitive mobile device, use an app like “Fountain Pen” or “Sketch Pad” to draw your signature using your fingers and then transfer the image to your computer.

Option #2. If you have don’t have access to a touch phone or a scanner, put your signatures on a white piece of paper and take a photograph of that paper using your digital camera or even the camera of your mobile phone (some tips).

Option #3. Alternatively, you can use any graphics software (like MS Paint), an online image editor (like Splash Up) or even Google Docs (see video) to draw your signature with the mouse pointer. I like the Google Docs options since it creates a transparent stamp of your signature.

Option #4. Go to Live Signature, draw your signature on the screen and click the “Create Signature” button to download your signature as an image.

Now that you have the written signature in image form, the next step involves putting that e-sign image into the document.

If the contract or agreement is in Microsoft Word or any other common editable format, things are pretty easy. Open the document in any Word processing software (or Google Docs) and insert the signature image inline. Save the document as PDF and email it back to the client.

How to Sign a PDF Document

If the initial document is in Adobe PDF format, you need to follow a couple of extra steps because, unless you have a PDF editor like Adobe Acrobat, editing PDF files is not always straight-forward.

Option #1: Convert the PDF document to Word using this free web service, add the image to the Word file (as in the previous example) and export the document as PDF to prevent editing. The PDF to Word service may not always replicate the exact formatting and appearance of the original PDF file but it’s still very close especially in the case of text documents.

To password protect your signed-PDF documents, open the document inside PDF Hammer, add a password restriction and re-export it as PDF.

Option #2: If the PDF document that you have to sign is long or includes complex formatting, conversion may not be the right option for you. In that case, you have two choices:

2 a: PDF X-Change – This is awesome PDF Viewer for Windows that also includes some very useful editing features.

Import the signature image into the Stamps Palette, open the PDF file that you want to sign and use the stamps tool (under Tools -> Comment & Markup) to sign anywhere in the document. You can then export the signed document as PDF and none of the original formatting should be lost.

2 b: OpenOffice Draw – The latest version of OpenOffice 3.1 along with this free Sun Extension can be used as a PDF editor.

Once installed, click the OpenOffice icon on your desktop and open the PDF document – this will auto open in OpenOffice.org Draw. Now choose Insert -> Picture -> From File to insert the signature image anywhere in the PDF file.

The good part about OpenOffice is that it is available for Windows, Mac and Linux platform but there’s no individual install for the Draw module so you’ll have to download the full 150 installer of OpenOffice.org but choose to install only Draw at setup.

Web Apps for Electronic Signature

The options discussed above are handy if you have to sign documents but what if you are on the other side of the fence and need another party to sign your document electronically.

In that case, you should consider using web based signatures services from either EchoSign or Right Signature – they both work on similar lines. You upload a PDF or Word document that needs to signed and also specify the email addresses of people who have to sign that file. The recipients can open the document inside their web browser, add their signature (with the timestamp) and done.

You can then download the signed document on to your own computer. There’s no software to install and no sending fax messages back and forth. Both Echo Sign and Right Signature are paid services but trial users can send up to 5 documents for free.

[*] These electronic signatures should not be confused with Digital Signatures that can only be had from certification authorities such as Verisign. Electronic signatures on documents are also considered legally binding in most countries.

I am familiar with iText , but not familiar with Ruby, I know Dreamhost supports Ruby on Rails(ROR),

I am familiar with iText , but not familiar with Ruby, I know Dreamhost supports Ruby on Rails(ROR), but never have a chance to run a real application, though I have a Dreamhost space.

Getting rjb, also known as “Ruby Java Bindings’ to work in a Dreamhost account can be somewhat problematic. Fortunately, it is also fairly straightforward. You just have to install all the dependencies in the user directory.

In my case, I was setting up a Rails Application that used the iText Java library to fill in PDF documents for user download. Of course, the server environment was not using Sun Java and the Java headers were not present, so gem install rjb failed. Joy.

The first course of action was to do a local install of Java.

Download jdk-6u7-linux-x64.bin and jre-6u7-linux-x64.bin from the Sun Java site. Then create an ~/opt directory and extract the JRE and JDK (you will need to chmod u+x both files then call them from the command line). Move the resulting folders to ~/opt . I renamed the folders to jdk and jre for simplicity.

Now you ensure that user gems are enabled in cPanel. Then add the following 3 lines to ~/.bash_profile

export JAVA_HOME=/home/username/opt/jdk
export GEM_PATH=/home/username/ruby/gems
export GEM_HOME=/home/username/ruby/gems

Run source ~/.bash_profile to load the paths.

Now you can run gem install rjb without any problems. You will likely have to re-install Rails and other gems because we will be telling our Rails app to load gems from the user directory. Just use the regular gem install syntax.

Add the following 2 lines to your config/environment.rb at the top

ENV['GEM_PATH']=’/home/username/ruby/gems’
ENV['JAVA_HOME']=’/home/username/opt/jdk’

That’s pretty much it.

I will concede that these probably aren’t the best instructions, but this is the real meat of the solution. If you keep getting “no such file to load” errors, you will need to extract the gems to the vendor/plugins directory. cd RAILS_ROOT/vendor/plugins and gem unpack gem_name for each problematic gem. I believe this is an issue with Passenger.

Please correct me if I am wrong about any of this, it was a very long day!

At last, Microsoft has released the much-anticipated SP2 update for Office 2007, and it’s currently available from the Microsoft Download Center.

The 290Mb download includes more than 600 fixes and improvements. Two key additions include support for the Open Document formats in Word (.odt), Excel (.ods), and Powerpoint (.odp) and the option to save as PDF in all applications. In my limited testing, PDF output was very true to the Word and Excel originals.

Excel’s charting mechanism has been been retooled, as has chart integration with other Office applications. Digital Inspiration notes several improvements to Outlook, including better IMAP and RSS support and faster startup, searching, and synchronization. Microsoft also touts general performance gains and better quality print output across the entire suite.

For a detailed look at what Office 2007 SP2 is all about, check the Office Sustained Engineering blog post. There’s also a good roundup on Microsoft Support.

PDFTools is a PDF management application. It can encrypt, decrypt, join, split, stamp, create, and rearrange PDF files. It also includes a easy to use XML to PDF converter. The feature, I most use, is the “Join Multiple PDF’s”. I find myself using PDF Creator to print my online sales receipts and then using PDF Tools to combine all the receipts into one file.

Features:

Encrypt PDF : This option allows you to password protect any PDF file. Also, you can specify additional features for protected PDF.
Note: Some of the features are only available if you select 128 bit encryption.

Decrypt PDF : This option allows you to create a protection-free version of a encrypted PDF file.

Join PDFs : This option allows you to create a PDF file by joining multiple PDF files.

Split PDF : This option allows you to split a PDF file in multiple ways. You can split each page to new PDF, split even pages to new PDF, split odd pages to new PDF, split after given page number, split at every given page count or split a range of pages to new PDF file.

Stamp PDF : This option allows you to overlay (or stamp) a Text or Image over a PDF file. You can overlay Text/Image at pre-defined location in pages or at any custom location by giving its X and Y position. For text, in custom position you can define angle (in Degrees) for text. For Image, you can define the scaling for image. Scale option is available for both pre-defined location and custom location.

Rearrange PDF : This option allows you arrange pages in a PDF file. You can reverse all pages, copy multiple pages on single page or create handout style pages.

About iText in Action iText in Action will teach you about PDF, Adobe’s Portable Document Format, fr

About iText in Action

iText in Action will teach you about PDF, Adobe’s Portable Document Format, from a Java developer’s point of view. You’ll learn how to use iText in a Java/J2EE application for the production and/or manipulation of PDF documents. Along the way, you’ll become acquainted with lots of interesting PDF features and discover e-document functionalities you may not have known about before.

In addition to the many small code samples, iText in Action includes lots of XML-based, ready-made solutions that can easily be adapted and integrated into your projects.

If you’re a .NET developer using the C# or J# port of iText, iTextSharp or iText.NET, you can also benefit from this book, but you’ll have to adapt the examples.

How to use iText in Action

You can read this book chronologically, starting with the introductory part 1. Part 2 describes useful basic building blocks, and part 3 gets into iText’s core PDF functionality. You’ll finish with part 4, which discusses the interactive features of PDF.

If you haven’t convinced your project manager yet that PDF is the way to go, you’ll certainly benefit from reading chapters 1 and 3. It sums up some reasonable arguments that will help you help your manager make policy decisions regarding e-documents. Section 1.3 contains a roadmap to the ready-made solutions that are demonstrated throughout the book. The main function of this section is to offer you a menu composed of a series of screenshots, showing all kinds of documents: documents with flowing text, graphics, bookmarks, and so on. If you see something you like, you can use this book as a kind of ‘cookbook’ and jump to the ‘recipe’ that was used to create a similar document.

Readers who are new to iText will need to take the “Hello World” crash course in chapter 2. This chapter shows that iText can be used in many different ways. The first three chapters often refer to sections in parts 2, 3, and 4, where you’ll find an in-depth explanation of the specific functionality that is being introduced in one of the many “Hello World” examples.

You can also read iText in Action in random order or thematically, starting from the table of contents or the roadmap in chapter 1. Once you’re well acquainted with iText, you’ll probably use iText in Action as a reference manual, browsing for the many small standalone code samples that can be applied directly to your own code.

for details, please visit here.

P.S.

if you want to buy it online, please visit iText in Action on Amazon.
